Question Navigation bar - Google Pixel 6

Is there anyway to move the navigation buttons to the right?
My thumb just can't reach the back button
Thanks

it grinds my gears too!, here we are at the most advanced android 13, many years of it on smartphones and yet still so many things baked into oems, like navigation customisation
to me pixel phones must solve these issues since its stock, and not just root everything all the time, to me its meant to solve the android problem of baked in oem features, like one ui or else samsung just wins androids, and pixels are done, i wont keep it that long lol

They did. It's called "gesture navigation".

Get rid of nav bar, use XPosed Edge Pro, you can setup custom stuff

Xposed is the Android equivalent of cancer. The Fullscreen Immersive Gestures module for Magisk and a launcher that has custom gestures, e.g. Nova Launcher, is more than sufficient.

"Xposed is the Android equivalent of cancer"
Lol okay
Well I've tried Fullscreen Immersive Gestures on Magisk, it didn't work, so I have my solution which does work. I have zero space taken up at the top of the screen, and zero space taken up at the bottom of the screen.
I have an invisible app-switch, home, and back button at the bottom of the screen, and the ability to add dozens more should I care to.

Use Xposed Edge Pro, it allows you to designate your own invisible buttons. My setup is:
Lower left, swipe up to go into multi, long-press to bring up in-app menu
Lower center, swipe up to open Bottom Quick Settings, long press to go home
Lower right, swipe up to go back
But you don't have to use swipe up, you can tap, double-tap, long press, swipe up, swipe down, swipe left, or swipe right. You also have different areas, 3x per side (left/center/right, top/middle/bottom) for each of those, and each can be assigned to do a number of incredibly useful things.
If you have trouble reaching with your thumb, you can assign lots to the lower-right (near your thumb), long press to do one thing, swipe up to do another, swipe to the left to do something, etc.
Don't let anybody tell you it's bad, test it for yourself and make your own decision.
If you do use that setup, you can disable the nav bar entirely by:
Installing "MagiskHide Props Config", and a terminal emulator
Restart
Run the term emulator, give it superuser by typing su and granting, then run command props
Go to code 5 (add your own prop), type n for a new prop, call the new prop qemu.hw.mainkeys, give it a value of 1, press y to continue with defaults, press y to reboot again.
NavBar is now gone (like in my image).
If you want to bring the NavBar back, just run props again on the terminal, and delete the prop you made above.

If it didn't work you're doing it wrong. But then again I really only use it to ditch the hint at the bottom of the screen, so my use case may not be typical.
There is a reason why custom ROM developers don't accept bug reports with that crap you use in play, and that's because 9 out of 10 times the issue is Xposed itself. So Xposed and its derivatives needed to be put out to pasture years ago and just die already. Anything they can do can a root app can do just as effectively, and without the system instability penalty of the cancer that is Xposed.
At this point we are getting a little off topic, as the OP I do think was trying to avoid rooting to solve his problem. Of course, root may be the only solution to the problem.

I have my Back-Button on the bottom right, just old-school without rooting.
Sry for my english, Germany here.

Which is why Fullscreen Immersive Gestures - a Magisk module - is a better option than any Xposed crap. It at least works, if you set it up correctly.

[Mod] 3 dot menu removal. Button remap (Coming Soon)

I have got rid of the 3 dot menu bar which is easy(zip file posted). But trying to remap recent apps was a fail. When I try to remap recent to menu it would affect home button not working so in the zip is the file the original file to remap buttons if you want to take a look and see if anyone here can remap recent to menu. AND eventually me or someone else will figure out long press remaping.
As well I figured out using the GMD Gestures app from playstore, you can create your own gesture and set it to recent apps if you want.
FYI for the 3 dot menu bar removal it requires you to delete the build.prop via recovery file manager than flash. For some reason it wont replace the file. So delete than flash and same with the button remap file in the zip.
THE BUTTON REMAP IS JUST FOR PEOPLE WHO WANT TO LOOK AT THE FILE TO SEE IF THEY CAN FIX.
THE NO MENU FILE IS A FLASHABLE TO GET RID OF MENU BAR.
well to fix the files not being overwritten via the flashable i changed your updater-script to /dev/block/mmcblk0p32 vs /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 but also didn't have any luck on the mod working either..the first time it made my recents button basically do nothing my home button seem to just select things and then backed as usual.. and then i edited the .kl file thinking maybe since you had things things right next to eachother and not on each line it caused a error i just had the menu (3 dots) issue disappear but the recents key worked as usual.. maybe just user error.

You might want to check with runandhide about long press remapping:

He got this working on the evo lte by changing this code:

I agree with you that the recent apps button should be menu on tap and recent apps on long press.

I will pm him and see if he can help with long press.
He fixed long press on home but that is already google now which I like. I'm asking him about long press on recent key.
Actually the modified build.prop is what gets rid of 3 dot menu bar.
What's the reasoning behind making the recent apps button do menu upon tap and actually show recent apps upon long press? That seems logically backwards to me.
Maybe its just because I use the recent apps button more than any other, but it seems like it should be like it is stock and then upon long press show the menu. Isn't that how HTC did it officially on their update to the One?
Obviously its a matter of personal preference - glad to see someone working on this (thank you!) because that bar is driving me nuts haha.

So if I flash this MOD ... will this just remove the annoying 3 dot menu on the bottom of my phone that comes up on all the screens/apps that I use.
Or am I going to lose the functionality of pressing recent apps, home, back?
whats this MOD do, as is..?

Well since my zip file does not replace files then all you do is delete build.prop via recovery file manager and flash. It won't mess with capacitive buttons unless you deleted that file too but don't so only 3 dots will go away.

Probably because you have had to long press for recent apps since android cupcake. Its natural.
So if I am following this thread correctly, this WILL completely remove the 3 dotted menu, HOWEVER, we have NO access to getting in to an app menu until the recent button can be remapped. Correct?

yes or you can download GMD Gestures app from play store and set a gesture to menu. Thats what I do.
So like mentioned above, the 3 dot menu will be gone and capacitive buttons will work as normal?
and use the GMD gesture app to get into menus of applications?
can we revert this process if something happens. like replace the files it removes.
obviously in a ZIP bc we cant push them with root explorer yet

But that was a long press of the home button correct? A lone button dedicated to recent apps functionality wasn't introduced until ICS. Considering the vast majority of general users(not us XDA types), I would argue that most people had never heard of the recent apps feature until el Goog stuffed it down everyone's throat when they shifted into the new 3 button system. I feel like that has become key to the operation of Android and considering the changes from 4.1 to 4.2 Google intends to keep it that way and build around it.
I know this is a mod that really isn't for the general public, but I feel like Google is a smart company. Just browse through their dev guidelines and you can see that they take every single detail into account and invest HEAVILY into finding the best way to operate Android. -I don't feel like this design change was a shot in the dark for them.
Of course, this would all be moot if HTC had decided they weren't 'too cool' for on-screens.
Sorry, ill get off my UX soapbox haha

There is. The mod I posted removes 3 dot but you need to delete build.prop via recovery file manager before flashing because it will flash a modified build.prop.
Also using GMD Gesture app for menu.

[REQ] Swap Recents / Options key

Hello everyone! I just got a brand new Galaxy Note 4 (Exynos) coming from a Galaxy S4. The "new' left softkey now triggers the Recents app instead of being a Menu (Options) key and that makes me sad. I'm not much of a multi-tasker, I'm not going to use it often, but I do like using the Options key in Chrome, picture galleries and basically everywhere since it's easier for me to reach it. I know most apps now have the "three dots" menu, but it's usually very high on the screen (hard to reach on a Note 4) and it's also non-intuitive. One can just press the left soft key with eyes closed, while you need to precisely see where you click if using app's "three dots". So I discovered that if I "hold" the left soft key, it would actually bring the Options menu, but I would like to swap the behavior. One press = Options, Hold = Recent.
I'm on a stock Kitkat 4.4.4 now, running ART, fully rooted. Can someone post(make) a CWM/TWRP .zip to address this problem?
PS: I tried to search for such feature here on the Themes and Apps section, but couldn't find a solution.
Thanks!
Look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2646304 and here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2337229 I think that the logic is the same, look if there are similarities.
Yay, thanks! Indeed in "/system/usr/keylayout" there was a file called "Generic.kl" and inside of it #254 was called "APP_SWITCH". I changed that to "MENU", restarted and... the button now acts like a Menu key, just like on my old Galaxy S4. For some reason the "hold" function of this key changed to "S Finder" (a search app) and I would like to make it "APP_SWITCH" in order to fully accomplish my goal of swapping those two functions, but still I think now it's a little bit better since I really care more for the Option key, especially on this big screen where reaching the "three dots" menu in upper right corner is not that easy.

It's not as bad as one would think.
Alot of them you could greenify(greenify can function as a xposed module or a stand-alone app), like Wanam.
Also, modules like greenify and boot manager would save you resources and would probably even-out with the resource demands of the framework.
IMO, Xposed is an absolute must-have for a device that's efficient, customized, and blazing fast.
Maybe. Still last time I checked it wasn't available for Samsung TouchWiz based ROMs on Lollipop. And I'm considering the opportunity to step up to the Lollipop upgrade finally and it won't be compatible anyway. I mean I surely can install it now, but I don't like the idea of getting used to it since I won't be able to use it once I upgrade to LP.
I think that you must change menu to app_switch

Remap App Switch To Menu

So ive been search around for a while now on how to fix this. And to anyone that chimes in and says why do you need the menu button obviously you don't use older apps, the new touch button on the screen is a huge annoyance especially since i've used my phones this way since my first S1. Regardless this is how i want it and so do many other people.
Currently this is only for a rooted phone
I have figured out how to remap the left soft key from the App Switcher/Multi window over to the old style menu key. Instructions for that can be found here
But now i don't have any way of switching to my currently open apps, after remapping the left key, the longpress now takes you to search. and long pressing on the home button also takes you to another variation of the search (both i dont use nor want). I want to be able to remap my left softkey on longpress to open up currently open apps (APP_SWITCH) and it would be nice if long pressing on Home could open the Task Manager as it did on my S3.
As far as i can tell editing of the longpress function is done via a Policy edit. Read about that HERE
Keep in mind that post is from 2014 so i have no idea if the internal code is still being handled the same way, i couldn't even find that file on my S6, but i did find a file called SEPOLICY in my root folder using ROOT EXPLORER. Do any of you know more about this and how I can go about changing this? im sure its a code level adjustment. Thanks
Long-press home button can be controlled without root easily.
Check out this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spada.nowgesturetweaksfree
I use the long-press home to get to my last used app.
I wonder if I can remap my buttons to launch any other apps.. Will have to tinker around a bit.

lol f off
If you guys use Dropbox, how do you get to the menu with SORT, etc.. without a menu key. This is making me crazy. I'm using nova launcher and there is no floating menu key. ????
The problem is if not every developer uses it, it's inconsistent.
It often helps if the options etc. In apps are on the top, so you don't have to fidget with your phone to reach the top or use two hands.
The menu button on every app is positioned somewhere else, so I find the op wanting it justified.
All in one gestures let's you remap every key, for some odd reason on my s4 I can remap the menu key, but on the S6 for some odd reason the option of the menu key has vanished in the same app:what:
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app
Hi pal. Hope it helps. Make 254 button remap, then install nova launcher, in tab gestures select long press menu and then recent app. Profit! Now once tapped you have menu button, long pressed - recent apps.
So, i made it, i use it. It works.

Question Modify Assistant Gesture in gesture nav?

Is it possible to change the diagonal gesture from Google assistant to something else?
I really like gesture navigation, especially because of screen space, and there's no minimize function in the 3 button navigation which isn't great.
Anyway, would be great to modify the gesture or somehow add the minimize functionality to the 3 button navigation.

I have been using a Magisk module to hide the swipe gesture bar entirely on mine, and had previously used 3 buttons as well (using the gesture because then floating Gboard has more room and no forced space on the side for 3-buttons even when hidden) via "Fullscreen/Immersive Gestures (Q-S), have it set to fully hide the gesture bar, and have been relying on "Xposed Edge Pro" for my actual gesture navigation and customizing of it, since I've changed my Moto G Power 2021 into a Watch (modified build prop to force landscape even by system apps and more ). So have Riru and Lsposed naturally via Magisk as well. Just some ways to pull that off.

Awesome!
Which version of riru works with edxposed?
I've tried a few and can't get edxposed to find any of them when installing.
EDIT:
I just noticed you said you installed Lsposed, got it installed successfully and i'm going to be checking out xposed edge pro, thanks a lot!
EDIT 2:
For those wanting a step by step to accomplish this. Not sure exactly how you got yours setup @Onoitsu2, but this way works for me.
First enable 3 button navigation (search navigation in settings)
Install "Xposed Edge" from here, enable it in Lsposed, reboot.
Xposed edge | Xposed Module Repository
repo.xposed.info
Enable the gestures in Xposed Edge, definitely at least a home gesture, a back gesture, and maybe a recent apps gesture. If you do not do this before the next step, you may have to restore a backup.
Note that gestures from the bottom of the screen will not work when the keyboard is open, so I created a back gesture from the side of the screen like the stock one. Then you can tap back to close the keyboard, other things could be used too, like a toggle soft keyboard among others I'm sure.
Then follow this guide.
[MOD][Magisk] Disable Navbar For 3rd-Party Navigation Gestures

It only seems to happen when I use my fingerprint to unlock.

I would recommend enabling the gesture nav actually, as with the 3 buttons enabled, you actually lose screen real estate from invisible sections it keeps there in gboard and other keyboards as well, if you use the Android gesture nav it opens up that space as it seems to read that state in the gboard app and honors it, even if hidden or not it still gives the room. But then that "Fullscreen/Immersive Gestures (Q-S)" Magisk module, run through the console it has you answer questions. Once you have Xposed Edge set up right, you can use that to fully hide the Android gesture nav, and get full screen space overall.
As for your crashing system UI, it sounds like you may have the double tap gesture enabled still for your power button. When I rooted, I think that is the only thing that I lost access to, just stopped working, but reader itself worked fine. I did have some issues when I left that option on in Settings, with System UI being dumb at times as I think it tried to trigger it but would not work properly. Just a thought, since I've come to use Xposed Edge and the shortcut panel instead, much more feature rich than the stock panel.

Awesome thanks for the tips.
I tried installing the full screen gestures module but I couldn't figure out how to disable the assistant gesture. I don't remember exactly, but I thought it only asked to disable the back button gestures, however I wouldn't doubt that I'm wrong ther on that. I'll have to reinstall it and try it the way your describing here.

I used that module to not only alter the gestures, but turn that gesture nav fully off, hiding it entirely relying only on Xposed Edge Pro for navigations on my device actually. No System UI crashes here, nor other quirks that way like keyboard going dumb and not permitting swiping from bottom (be sure you look at Xposed Edge's settings and tweak them, it's worth it messing versus defaults)

I just reinstalled it a bunch of times and you do get a lot more options if you choose immersive instead of Fullscreen.
It seems that no matter which options I choose and regardless of whether or not you use the 3 button or gesture system navigation, there's still a tiny black bar on the bottom of the screen.
The black bar is in exactly the same place as it is during boot. When compared to the top of the screen which goes all the way to the top, the bottom bar still has a little part of unused space.
Did you manage to extend the screen all the way to the bottom, as it does with the top of the screen?
It's definitely extended more, but it would be awesome to get the entire screen space.
On a side note, do you know if there's a way to force all apps to be completely fullscreen and go all the way to the very top with the status bar hidden?
When I hide the status bar and turn it into landscape mode with the status bar hidden, I do get to use the full space in the app readera for example, but when using it in portrait mode, the space just goes unused despite checking off all apps to go around the camera whole in settings. For example, Firefox doesn't use the full space at the top of the screen, even with the status bar hidden.

Have you tried in multitasking list, tap on app's icon, it has a pullout of options that show like Full screen and if enabled split screen as another. That is the only thing I've used to make it fill up that upper notch area the camera is housed in. Mine is set to (Developer Options > Display Cutout) Device default. You want yours set to Hide to use the full space as often as possible I believe.
If you're on A11, When you go to Settings > Display and tap Advanced to expand the menu, do you have an option labeled "Full Screen" ? From there you can choose the apps you'd like to run full screen, of course this assumes the app is compatible and capable to do so.

Question Hide the gboard keyboard's down arrow

Sorry all if queastion was before (can't find answer and I'm really pissed off)...is it possible to remove this arrow under the keyboard on pixel 6 (pic in attach)?! I had pixel 6 pro few days ago (returned because fingerprint sensor didn't work) and I'm shure that I didn't had arrow there (gestures used too, all same as here). Tried to find option to turn off everywhere but no success...hope that this is not feature from todays jan update?!
You can't remove that arrow, it's used to hide and un-hide the keyboard.

That's not a new feature. Has always been there. If rooted you can remove with a mod that removes navbar, gesture pill, etc..
It is different if using two button or three button navigation.
I use the three button navigation and the back arrow key in the navigation changes to a down arrow key.
Pixel's implementation of down arrow on the navbar (or at least the padding below) is actually better than not having anything (like Xiaomi did on MIUI). The OS cannot recognize smartly if you meant a swiping up gesture or just simply pressing the space button, hence this placement.

I know mate, but I'm using swipe last 3 years, can't go back on old commands...and this way I have more screen space to look at.

I am using gensture navigation in lineageOS 19, and I also meet this problem that my phone have a very wide bottom bar when I input something. My phone have a small screen so that I have a bad experience when I input, but I couldn't find related setting in my phone setting. However I have rooted so could you give me this module? Thank you very much!
