I called T-Mobile yesterday to ask to have my phone unlocked. She said it would be done overnight and I'll get a message today. I received a pop-up message stating my device was permanently unlocked. I saw the message for only a second. I didn't expect it and clicked off it before I could stop.
Is this real? Have others seen this happen?
... are you specifically just trying to get a sim unlock? if you root device, the carrier unlock app will grant you a couple temporary unlocks, but besides that, this is commom knowledge if you ask them correctly they'll probably grant a sim unlock.

I did a thorough search through the forum and elsewhere to find help with this problem, but it's been fruitless. Hopefully someone can assist me:
I have two Optimus Ts from separate sellers, but both prohibit me from accessing the unlock prompt. In the process of unlocking the first phone, the first code I received failed, but there was a notification that it was the 1st of 10 tries. I went to try the next code, but after dialing 2945#*500#, "not registered on this network" appeared instead. The second phone immediately went to "not registered on this network"; I couldn't pull up the unlock screen at all.
Is there something else going on with these phones? It seems unlikely that both of these Op Ts had their unlock attempts burned through, especially after the 1st phone had 9 left. I don't think I have ever read a post from an Optimus user who's failed to unlock theirs, so this situation is particularly troubling. Does anyone have some advice on what to do next?
Thanks in advance.
I'm not sure, but maybe it need to remove SIM?
I just want to post this to help debunk myths, prevent people from paying unnecessary fees and to inform you all how easy this process was.
My cell phone carrier is T-Mobile, USA. Last night, roughly 9 hours prior to writing this, I called T-Mobile's customer service line from my home phone (this is important because if you call from your cell phone you will just get stuck talking to their automated system). I had made a point to write down my IMEI number and my phone's serial number prior to calling. After waiting on hold for just a few minutes, I asked the customer service representative for my SIM unlock code. He informed me that he could not provide it for me over the phone but the request would be processed and the SIM Unlock department would email within 72 hours. He took down my information; IMEI, Serial Number, Phone Number, Make & Model of phone and my email address.
Just a few minutes ago, I received the email from the SIM Unlock department as promised.
In order to unlock my phone I had to flash back to the stock firmware. I'm currently running Mik's CM7 and I can confirm that you can not unlock your phone from this custom firmware.
The instructions that T-Mobile provided to bring up the network unlock dialogue was incorrect but that's okay, I knew how to do what I needed to do.
in the phone app, dial
Code:
2945#*509#
replacing '509' with whatever model number your particular phone is. Then I entered in the 16 digit unlock code that T-Mobile emailed to me. As soon as I entered the code, a message popped up saying "Network Unlocked". I clicked on okay, and then I panicked for a second when the phone seemed to freeze. This is normal though, the phone should reboot. After rebooting, I saw that all was well.
I just flashed back to CM7, and a friend of mine is on the way over. I will swap out my SIM card for theirs to test whether this works on CM7, but someone elsewhere on the forums has already confirmed that the network unlock was successful and carries over to custom firmware as well.
Unless your particular cell phone provider is for some reason unable to provide you with your unlock code, don't bother trying to buy an unlock code off of ebay. This code should be available to you for free.
I got an old G900T from a friend and called T-Mobile to unlock the sim so I can use the phone with another carrier. They called my friend to ask if it was okay and they said yes so they were going to provide me with the unlock code that would be emailed to me. The woman on the phone told me my friend still owed money on it so they could only issue me a temporary 30 day unlock and then after the 30 days it would be locked again until the phone is paid off. Once paid off I would be given a code that would unlock it permanently.
My question is, if I root and flash this phone with a custom rom will that prevent T-Mobile from locking it again after the 30 days? Or will they still be able to lock it after the 30 days has ended?
**crickets**
tell you the truth ive never heard of a temporary unlock. thats interesting news...lol.
I found a ZTE Midnight Pro for Simple Mobile on Ebay for $14.95. The phone seems pretty nice for that price and it came with service for month, but once that month is up...well, I'd love to unlock it and Root it and so on...
MOST of all Unlock. BUT, all the places say I just put in a sim from someone else and the box should open right up for me to input the Code...Nuh uh.
What happens is this:
Network Lock!
This device can be remotely unlocked if eligible. Please use the Device Unlock application to unlock the device. Make sure the device has an internet connectivity to use the Device Unlock application.
Comes up on screen. So..is this thing unlockabl;e? Since there is no Device Unlock App that I can find for Tracfone/Simple Mobile, and Tracfone says I need to pay for a YEAR before I can unlock.
HELP!?
James
You might be able to buy a Sim unlock code. I would reread the tos as once the device is payed off in full they have to unlock it by law.
As for root and stuff like that, I wouldn't hold your breath as the bootloader on ZTE are normally locked down and no one really developes for low tier devices.
A few months back, I was stuck on the SIM unlock screen: "Enter PIN to unlock. 30/30 attempts remaining". I bought an unlock code for the phone from a reputable eBay seller, yet that code didn't work. I believe I also got an unlock code from AT&T (if this indeed happened, the code must've been identical?), and that didn't work either.
I finally solved this issue yesterday by doing a factory data reset with the startup key combo, with the foreign SIM out at some point and in at some point (I don't remember, but I believe some combinations didn't work, and only 1 way worked). I got into Android, set it all up, and *was* able to make calls with it using the foreign SIM! So the phone is definitely SIM-unlocked!
After installing an app that requires restarting, I restarted the phone, and now I'm back in the SIM-unlock screen!!!
Does anyone know why I'm getting to this screen? And how I can prevent my SIM-unlocked phone to stop asking me for the SIM-unlock code?
Thanks so much in advance!

My sincere apologies - that's not the SIM-unlock screen!!! That's the screen for entering the PIN that I had set up earlier. I should've caught that, although I do think the screen could be clearer.
