Question App crashing--developer blaming numerous Pixel users - Google Pixel 6

Midea Air - Apps on Google Play

play.google.com
Would some of you Pixel 6 users mind installing and seeing if it crashes on you, please?
Because it's not 100% of users encountering the issue, they blame some Pixel users due to a "classnotfound" error within their application.
Since we've all seen people copy & paste code and other silly things they shouldn't do, which cause crashes, I asked them if they used a root checker:
Yes, and we also have our test team both in China and the U.S. using a couple of problematic models which are reported by users too. But nothing more is found and none of the trails show the problem. And according to the feedback situation, not all users using these phone models are having issues, so we assume it is related to a specific user environment.

But they didn't expand on it beyond "yes", unfortunately.
Spoiler: my thoughts & minutia
Other than Play Store app updates and automatic Google-pushed Play/Services updates, all I've done in the past 10-14 days is update Lsposed. I've disabled and rebooted without it, and the issue remains. I've also used a stock boot.img and the app still crashes, which makes me think it's detecting an unlocked bootloader or some similar and unnecessary check(s), and moving forward with its checks which then fails due to Google no longer supporting whatever methods the app is using, and they don't know how to figure it out since it's probably copied & pasted code from many months ago and they're unwilling to suspect that old code is the cause, even though Google normally rolls out subtle security changes like this, very gradually.
Is it really just me and 5-8 other users in the entire world with this issue, or does it crash on some of you as well? I can't imagine it being such bad code that it's only rooted/unlocked bootloaders with the issue. It must be non-rooted and stock Pixel users with the issue as well, and those devices just haven't been pushed the Play Store/Services update yet.
I'd like to know if I'm just getting older and dumber or not, and if I'm truly the cause for the crash, haha. I'm open to being entirely to blame for this, but I don't want to wipe my phone and relock the bootloader for testing quite yet. Thanks for testing and voting in the poll!

Huh? If you've got a "class not found" it seems like it would be pretty easy to determine where the problem lies.
Is it some esoteric Kotlin thing or java.util.boring?

Yeah, I figured something like that should be pretty simple, unless they have zero failures in their own testing. But...is there some new background auto-report for crashes on Android, which ties in to the email address, that I'm unaware of?
I never said anything to them other than email them my phone model, Android build, and posted a google app review (under the same name & email address) with no information other than it crashing. And they repllied, via email, with this:
Due to the uniqueness of this bug, no more code trace can be reported as you received only a line of error indicating "classnotfound". normally there will be at least a few lines more which helps with debugging.

Well, there could easily be conditional code for almost anything.
If you can repeatedly bomb this, why don't you get a logcat and see where the problem is?
Code:
$ logcat
The logcat should say what the class is and where it's called from.
Heck, it could even be in JNI code.

I just tested it, opened but due I am not registered and have no compatible AC, I didn't processed further. My cast vote is given, but not sure whether this is helpful, due not sure whether the app crashes when you open it or after login.
Pixel 6, A13, rooted and unlocked bootloader.
Cheers
Tom

oops!

So.... they have test teams in... China? You want to give CHINA control of your air conditioner? And access to data on your phone?

I'm same with tom1807

Yesterday Instagram app started crashing after I got a video message from a friend, I had to clear cache and reinstall it and reboot the phone, its now working fine, it was weird though

Cannot delete old devices from Web Android Market or hide more than one device

The web version of Android Market has some really annoying issues with the user's associated devices:
Old devices cannot be deleted.
Only one device can be hidden at any time.
The hidden device will eventually come back for some unknown reason.
There's a massive thread about this over here but clearly Google hasn't addressed it despite it being like that for over a year.
There's a Google Android issue regarding this here so if you get some time then give the issue a star (takes just a few seconds). If you have more time then write a comment.
With more stars/comments on the issue, it may get some Google attention.

I can hide all my devices, which funnily enough, are all my only Nexus S.
But they'll come back eventually, without warning.

[Q] How to Disable E911

I want to disable the E911 on my phone. People if you dont agree keep it to yourself. I want to disable it. It should not matter why I want to especially not on site designed for people customizing the hell out of their phone. If you think I am paranoid I think your a sheep.
Can anyone actually provide some beneficial help towards my goal.
Maybe being a little more nice will get you your answer. You get more flies with sugar than vinegar.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda premium
Do you want to just disable E911 or disable all phone functionality? I haven't seen any way to just disable E911 on any mobile device. By default, every manufacturer puts stuff in that lets 911 locate your phone, and there is no way to disable it in software or hardware without basically stripping the software of its phone functions.
If you are still interested, and want software that strips this phone of all phone services and apps (including E911) try the GeeWiz Media ROM
As a Communications supervisor in a 911 center, I can tell you firsthand that disabling e911 won't prevent us from locating you. I've disabled e911 on several android phones that I've owned over the years and it still reports your Phase II Lat/Long

lol sippi, idk about the OP's reason for this, but ive personally seen people i know last week disable e911 on their phones (through ways like the Geewiz media rom+software mods) to do a drug dealing of all things, little did they know what u said was true and they were tracked not only by 911, but also by the stupidity of leaving my app (SMS Tasks) on their phones, leaving the person who ratted them out (not me but they did know their pass phrase), gave their phone to the local authorites and gave them the command [email protected]****** and with the version my app had on it (unofficial build), it located them with google-maps link that was clicked and gave a perfect track (because the people had gps on of all things), thus leading to the arrest (i personnaly felt good about it cause if i didnt make that app (SMS Tasks) they would be on the loose for a little bit longer causing who knows what cause the police officer said that they were having trouble tracking them with the e911 system for a "unknown error reported" as they told him so idk if it was a glitch with the tracking in my area's e911 or they acually disabled whatever it is that makes them track you (please dont reply with what it was just to be safe), but my app acually lead to an arrest =) so by what i saw i think there might be some workaround, or just a glitch, im not encouraging it one bit, but i know personally that there was at least one person capible of doing it (again unless it was a glitch in their system) =S
I'd also be curious to learn to disable this. I, unlike the previous poster, wouldn't pride myself on incarcerating someone for a business transaction and otherwise victimless crime.
If anything, the post above highlights exactly why you should not install apps which ask for unnecessary permissions, because some nanny state developer just might invade your privacy and track your movements instead of focus on the purpose of the app.

its acually a function of the app, not invasion of privacy, my app is open-sourced on my gitbub as-is for the app's released versions, thats locate command is one of the listed features on the thread, i update the github more then the thread but all the commands are safe, it was just some clever ideas for them to use my app to solve a criminal case thats all, as for the "business transaction and otherwise victimless crime" heroin and drug dealing is highly illegal in this area where it took place at, and the now ex-girlfriend of the guy was a victim from it because before he got out to buy it he beat her black and blue... >=( theres nothing funny about drug dealing making it a "victimless crime" as its a nuicence in our society no matter how many "benefits" people say it has, as for my app its clearly states in the thread for you to keep your pass phrase a secret, as he didnt, and all the commands+usage are all on there and clear warnings for the potentially dangerous commands, but the version he had on his phone was a newer beta test version that uses google-maps links instead of general GEOLocation area. all that was done was completely legal, and not abuse of my app or permissions as it still gives people to where it tells who sent the message in the tracking menu (by phone number) since its a new feature in my beta tester version so it did give full telling who it came from. but ive already been given warnings by the police from an earlier situation with the same people on the same kind of activity about regulations on tracking without consent, so i had to add that prompt to show who initiated the tracking, and am working on a button that will stop it remotely. so until i can comply with the regulations, while keeping it stable, i havent been able to update the app with them untill i get the new tracking system with prompts stable, but to do all that with the new systems i have in the app it needs to be installed in CWM recovery cause the system-app Reboot permissions, and better GPS/wifi Toggling
sorry if it seems like im ranting, im truly not, but that situation was really personally to me and i felt like what i did was the right thing, not a "abuse of permissions app", or to "incarcerating someone for a business transaction and otherwise victimless crime.", as it was more for the fact that he beat her and then he want to do an illegal activity
Wow, Im sorry for the long delay. I had switched phones and forgot all about this thread. I appreciate ALL who provided input. I still dont like the idea of it, but it doesnt bother me as much.
Not sure how far back...

Restricted user app selection after Oreo not working

I use restricted user profiles on the S3 to only allow my children to only access a restricted list of apps I download from the Play Store. It seems that any NEW apps that I download from the play store after the Oreo update do not show up in the list of apps (Settings > Cloud and accounts > Users, select a restricted user).
I did a factory reset this morning, and still no luck. Now only stock apps show up.
I chatted with Samsung this morning, and they want me to take it to the local walk-in Samsung clinic to have it looked at. This seems like a software issue - not a hardware issue. Perhaps Oreo changes the way this feature works - and it is an android issue not a Samsung one?
As a troubleshooting step, would any of you be willing to setup a restricted account on your S3, download a few play store apps and see if they show up to be able to enabled for the restricted account? No matter what I do, only the stock apps show up. It would be helpful to know if others have the problem as well.
I'm having the same problem, we're you able to find a solution? Only happened after the oreo update.

Thank you for reporting your experience with this to this thread. No solution as of yet. Now that I know someone else is having the same issue, I will try Samsung support again and let them know it is a problem with Oreo for all users - not just my tablet. Unfortunately, I'm guessing the best we can hope for is that it gets Samsung's attention to be included in the next update - which will likely be some time from now.
Update: I installed the Smart Tutor app from the Play Store which allowed a Samsung Support rep to see the issue. They agreed that it was not working as it should and opened issue ticket #2194272620. Hopefully this ticket will allow the issue to be noticed and fixed in a future update.

Thanks for the quick follow up! It's good that they finally acknowledged the issue at least.
Stumbled upon pretty much the same issue when I wanted to create a new restricted user account.
Before the update to Oreo; I had already a restricted account. That one has still the possibility to change the 'run' permission for apps. Not sure if it also works for new installed - I haven't tested that.

My experience was that new installed apps would not show up for the existing restricted accounts.
It will be interesting to see if the Tab S4 has this same problem
Hi all together!
Same problem here! This is a mandatory feature for me to share the tablet with my kids. Seems that the oreo update ****ed it up.
The bored Samsung support guy asked me to do a factory reset, and now, after 3 hours of configuration it still doesn't work.
Grrr !!! before the factory reset I had at least these apps working in the restricted profile I configured under android 7.
And ideas? Any update from Samsung ticket you opened?
Regards from cologne, Germany
Sui
No new ideas. I am USA but I noticed the korea build was a bit newer so I tried installing that. That didn't help but was interesting.
My understanding from the Samsung rep was that others could call and give the ticket number to get status and add a
"Me too" to it and that may help it get more attention
Having same issue on my Galaxy Tab S3 after Android 8.0.0 install. Did factor reset and still not working. Contacted Samsung using a Samsung Community of "Restricted Profile - New Apps not listed in App and Content Access Menu" and after Samsung suggesting a factory reset, which did not fix problem, they private messaged me to contact Google. I am struggling as there appears to be no way to contact Google for a response other than the mounds of help websites that do not acknowledge or provide fixes. As a parent who is trying to restrict my children's use of tablet to choke off internet and inappropriate items, I am at a loss for now and my kids are whining that they cannot play on any new apps without bugging me to let them use my signon; totally unacceptable.,
Same problem (Samsung Galaxy Tab A6, android oreo 8.1). Completely ruins my restricted account setup for the kids. They're not happy and neither am I!
Solution
"Same problem (Samsung Galaxy Tab A6, android oreo 8.1). Completely ruins my restricted account setup for the kids. They're not happy and neither am I!"
Give restricted account permission to use chrome and search for the app you require as an apk. Then install from that.
99% of apps can be found as an apk so it works as a solution until android gets there acts together and sorts it out.
Same here. I just upgraded my Galaxy Tab 10 A6 T580 to Oreo 8.1.
My kids keep asking when they can get the tablet back...
Same problem here after the Oreo update.
Old restricted accounts still have their previously enabled apps, new restricted accounts only get standard Google/Samsung apps.
New apps installed under Oreo from the Play Store do not show up in the app restrictions list.
Somehow, as restricted users also cannot use the Play Store directly, how are they supposed to get any app other than the standard ones?
This is a bug, not a feature.
If it should prevail, I will dump my Android devices and get Apple iOS phones/tablets for the rest of the family.
Same problem here too. I installed few apps after i upgraded my Galaxy Tab 10 A6 T580 to Oreo 8.1. They are not shown..so even resetted the device. Now all is gone on the redtricted users...
My kids also want to get the tablet back...
If anyone has a solution...pls let me know how!
I talked to the Samsung Germany support on Thursday. They know about and acknowledged the problem, however, there is no cure. The technician I talked to hypothesized about the upcoming Android P (roll-out to Samsung devices is planned for 2019) may fix the issue.
The point is, restricted users may also not use the Play Store to install new apps, so in effect, there is ABSOLUTELY NO WAY to get any apps except the standard stock apps into a restricted user's account. That does not make any sense at all.
Unless this is really intended (making the restricted account option useless), this looks like a gross oversight in QA on behalf of Samsung.
I'll see how this develops. My immediate solution is to use MobileFence to restrict my kids' accounts on mobiles and tablets (working with normal user accounts).

Same problem, Galaxy Tab A 10.5 (2018), Android 8.1.0 - massively frustrating!
Same problem here - is there any point in contacting Samsung to log this?
Any work around anyone can recommend? We use the tablets for a lot of lessons and set reading and the kids can't even access Kindle on it any more. I saw someone recommended Mobile Fence already, thanks.
It's causing major family tension because of how it's affecting Minecraft too. Huge frustrations.
Same here. I wonder why restricted user feature persists, it is useless now. A can assign only application installed before upgrade to Android 7.x, now on 8.1 and still no new app for assigning to restricted user.
Samsung Tab A6 (2016).
Same problem, subscribing to thread just to be able to see if there is any resolution.

How to find Info/Errs from an Android App Crash to steer toward App's bad Settings?

I'm a long time developer but brand new to Android, with my having past experience developing in Unix systems as well as a lot using Cygwin in Windows. I have a newly-installed App that seems popular called 'C Locker'. So far, I've just got the Free version because I'm trying it out to see if it does what I need. Unfortunately, it's now crashing with the Settings that I've enabled, and as a general developer, I'm interested in seeing if I can glean information from the Bugreport (or whatever else I can use...perhaps even gdb on the device itself?) to help me know what specific Settings might be the problem being that there are so many of them and I would prefer to gain some type of help from my phone in figuring out what the bad settings might be that I've enabled that are causing the problem rather than to spend all day flipping them around. I've already scanned through the Bugreport after uploading it to my computer, examining all of the references it makes in there to "com.ccs.lockscreen" with this apparently being the process name for the C-Locker program. I've seen indications in there where it indeed shows that it has crashed, but I couldn't yet discern if it is able to give me pointers as to what the cause of the crashes might have been. Is that possible to gain such information out of these Bugreport files? Or is there a way to run it directly in gdb on my device to perhaps see the stack at the time that it crashes, for which the names provided might help to discern what specifically it was trying but failing to do at the time? If it helps, as an intended future Android developer, I've already gotten Android SDK set up on my computer, although I haven't yet really used it much to speak of for anything. I also have adb working from my computer to the smartphone and even have rooted it using a rare method being that I have an older phone purchased years ago via Amazon that I didn't activate until about a month ago. (It's an LG G4 VS986 version 13B so I couldn't use the popular rooting method for version 11A but instead had to use the "Injection" method which took me FOREVER although I finally got it to work!) And just in case it helps perhaps even to bypass a direct answer to this question (although it will still of course be appreciated), my Settings within C Locker involve having set it to be a Device Admin and to bring it up as the first App upon Reboot as well as I've selected within the Root category to make it a System App as well as my then having Disabled ALL things that typically show on the screen (such as 9-1-1, camera, Etc). I had left it set to the default "Gesture" Unlock method, but whenever I bring up the App again and go into "Unlock Methods", it now immediately crashes each time (as well as upon Restarting the phone!). So this covers the majority of the most significant of the Settings that I've made on it so far to the best of my recollection. And I feel that if I could get some indications from the system as to what the specific errors may be when its crashing (or from a stack trace or whatever else), then it might help me to discern what specific Settings are creating the problem being that perhaps I just have an odd (rare) combination of Settings on it that I can tweak to get it working. My goal is to ultimately get a lockscreen App that I can use a Pattern type Unlock with that allows an UNLIMITED number of Failed Attempts (so that it won't ever Factory Reset my phone after the 10th or ANY number of failures!!!). I also--as mentioned above--don't want ANY shortcuts whatsoever being accessible BEFORE the phone is unlocked...not even 9-1-1. Anyway, so if there's a way to glean information from the Bugreport (or from whatever other methods available) to find the specific cause (involved errors) of this or any other App that's crashing that I do NOT have the source code for (being that I of course am not its developer) then it will be greatly appreciated to know how to best find this information. (And I promise that I've already searched extensively on Google but couldn't filter out its replies all being based on the idea that I'm the developer of the App that's crashing, with my even trying adding phrases such as "not my app" and "not the developer of" Etc to no avail...lol). Thanks.
By the way, if I shouldn't have combined the 'C Locker' Settings details into this post, then please just let me know because I'm new to posting here. Also, unfortunately, if I don't receive any help with this right away, then I'll be forced to start testing different Setting combinations anyway, which would then of course solve this problem but without knowing truly what exactly was causing the issue. Even if so, it will still be helpful in the long run with other potential App crashes to get the answer to this general question.
Unless not disabled by user, all runtime activities in Android are logged, so app crashes and their reason also. You can view this log by means of Android's logcat command-line tool or by means of a LogCat Viewer app. My POV: logcat is essential for determining what an app and the Android OS are doing while the app is running on a device.
BTW: Android's log can be filtered per package, too.
Thanks!

Thank you, and since posting this, I've been learning more about Android Studio and have used it to actually see the stack trace within the "Android Monitor" pane there in order to find the instant reason why the/ANY (meaning 3rd party as well) App is crashing at the time! Thanks again for the help!

"Google Play services are updating"

Hello. I recently bought a Huawei P40 Lite, without GMS and installed the apps using googlefier. Everything goes well except some errors that are fixed by swiping and blocking them, and one bigger issue: location. Some local apps (the phone is for my mom so she has a lot of shopping apps for local supermarkets with discounts, cards, vouchers etc) require you to set your location through google, so instead of the app showing the map and allowing you to choose your store, you're stuck at a "Google Play services are updated" screen. Is there any fix for this?
How it looks on my P20 Lite (with factory GMS)
How it looks on my P40 Lite (with googlefier GMS)
Also, does anyone know any better solution of installing the google services? As said, this phone is for my mom and I really don't want to have to fix something every week, so I'm up to even root and mess with things so I can have a more permanent fix.
Welcome to XDA
Yes, well... no idea what the solution is but there's no way I leave that junkware run on my phone.
With a user like that always keep in mind it may be malware, a virus or rootkit causing it.
An Android is only as secure as its user...

Well it's not junk or malware. It's a genuine app from the playstore for a supermarket chain named Lidl. She's had it for months, you basically get a qr code and you have to scan that code at the cash register to get some discounts. The app shows her each week what products have discounts and what products are gonna have discounts next week. The app is legit.
As for the user, yeah I agree my mom isn't the most careful out there but i managed to teach her to not install or press any buttons and everytime she gets a weird message or notification she comes to me to figure out what it is. Even when a normal app requires a permission, for example "facebook requires permission to take pictures", she comes to me, so I'm pretty sure she'll be fine with it.
Is there any proper way of installing GMS without having these types of issues even if it involves rooting or god knows what else? At the price of this phone there's nothing better than it and I don't really want to downgrade to a bad samsung just for that.
Just because it's on Playstore doesn't make it safe
FB? Bah-ha-ha-ha.... is pure social malware.
Purveyors of disinformation and far, far worse.
No way that be on my phone. I punched out of FB 13 years ago after a month... the puppet cut the strings.
Meh, it's a lick on you... do what you will, but actions have consequences.

It's not that deep. Like I said, all she does is talk about flowers, plants and work-related subjects. I taught her how not to fall in the hands of scammers and how she should come and show me everytime she gets any weird request. She doesn't download any apps without me, doesn't access weird websites, i think it's safe enough for a mature person.
Yes, I know that it isn't safe just because it's on the playstore, I'm just trying to tell you that it's a legit app, developed my the supermarket chain that has over 11k stores in Europe and there isn't any sensitive information apart from her name and a qr code that she has to scan, instead of the typical physical discount card.
On another note, since the topic has been moved to another category, does anybody have any idea on how to fix my issue?
@goldieczr did you find a solution?
I've got the exact same problem on my Hisense a6l.
I got these files (in the rar) from an official seller. With these you can install google service and magisk.
Both files are executable zips that can be opend. All you need is the password from the text file.
Same thing with the installation, just copy paste the passwords when ask.
