When I used custom firmware, random apps started crashing after a while until I rebooted the device.
This could happen both during use and in sleep mode., on different firmware with different android versions.
I thought that it might be some kind of incompatibility or I did something wrong and decided to return to the stock firmware but the problem didn't disappeared.
And now the phone can freeze unexpectedly at random times.
I contacted the local forum and they don’t know about such a problem and suggested that the cause could be a dying ROM, so I decided to ask here and ask for advice on what to try

Hello people, I have a rather peculiar issue with my SII
I have had this issue for some time now and really doesnt bother me that much, its just annoying. And its just now that I have bothered writing a post about it.
If Ive run out of battery, I plug my phone into the charger, turn it on while its charging, I get no service, not prompted to input PIN and get the Uknown IMEI\baseband version. But if I let it charge a couple of minutes, unplug the charger and turn it on, everything works fine. Whats going on here?
I think this problem occured after installing one of bmarko's MIUI roms. I have since full wiped and restored stock rom. Upgraded two new official samsung roms as they have been released, currently running XWKI8 unrooted completely stock and the issue still persist.
I have searched around and there are similar cases out there but not really any clear solutions. Theres even a post over at cyanogenmods forum site, but no replies.
As said earlier its not really a big issue for me, not expecting a immediate solution but I would really like to understand the problem if someone has the information since I dont have the technical competence to understand it myself. I obviously havent corrupted or lost anything in my efs folder since its working without the charger, or? Could there be remains of a bug from another rom still in the system causing this?
Any replies would be appreciated, thanks.
Same Problem
Hey FlipTrick,
I got exactly the same problem. Dont remember how it happened exactly, but do remember I didn't do anything exotic. Can't display my IMEI, unknown baseband version and no prompt for my PIN.
I Tried several things:
- Reflashed the advised codeworx kernel using odin.
- ReInstalled CM 7.1 and tried nightly version.
- Reflashed different RADIO ROMS from XDA (goo.gl/TjoaM)
Nothing worked. Does anyone know what the problem might be? Or know what I could try next?
Greetings,
Xianduras
I had this problem once when I used a jig to reset the flash counter. Given the modem (and the IMEI) wasn't showing up in the phone details, I reflashed the modem which fixed it.
Occasionally after a reboot my modem/IMEI details take around 20-30 seconds to appear, but they've never not turned up/left me without service apart from that one occasion.
problem gone?!
Problem seems to be gone, noticed it after flashing Hydrog3n rom. Cant say if thats the solution though, havent tested it for awhile and i've flashed alot of roms
Hi folks,
I have got a problem with my S2 on NDTs newest MIUI rom running with the latest siyah kernel (actually problems started around mid december).
The phone freezes very often while having wlan turned on (esp. when I am using the market app). I have to take out the battery to revive the phone.
Second "problem" is that the phone reboots quite often lately (hot reboot, i dont have to enter my pin). it usually happens when i am playing some game or browsing the internet.
These problems have occurred on various roms (miui, ics, stock).
Need help as I need the phone for work (though I haven't had a reboot/freeze while talking or messaging). Anyone?
Maybe the logcat file can help. I saved the logfile moments ago, shortly after the phone had 2-3 reboots while playing Little Empire. I don't know how to "read" it though
Uh, and I asked the shop where i bought my phone about a replacement device. no chance. they want me to send the phone to their repair center which will take at least 7 days (the whole process). can't do that because i need it for work ((
a more experienced user will be along soon no doubt.
I'd do a full wipe and re-flash miui to be honest mate nobody wants to lose their data but if its randomly rebooting a lot then its possibly your only option other than sending it to be serviced.
Hey. I have done countless wipes and i have re-flashed different versions of miui more often than i can remember. I formatted /system and /data (/system was kind of stupid as I had to flash via Odin afterwards -.-). Even if I do not use any backups (I have also tried only adding my google account and installing some apps from the market after a clean install) these problems occur. ARG§$R%"$

i got the same problem! my phone freez on market often . i think it's not related to kernel ! probably something wrong with miui or market app.
Seriously no one?
really need help as i am close to throwing my phone against the wall -.-
have you tried a complete repartitioning of the phone, and then flashing a stock ROM with the new bootloader ?
(EDIT : looks to me like the problem comes from the modem you're using and your service provider, you got a lot of lines like those in your log :
I/TelephonyRegistry( 6376): notifyServiceState: 0 home Telekom.de Telekom.de 26201 UMTS CSS not supported -1 -1RoamInd: -1DefRoamInd: -1EmergOnly: false I/TelephonyRegistry( 6376): notifyDataConnection: state=2 isDataConnectivityPossible=true reason=null interfaceName=pdp0 networkType=3
Basically it tells you some parameter passed to the modem is incompatible with the service you're connected to.
I'd try flashing another modem -through CWM or Odin, don't matter as long as you do a dalvik cache wipe before you reboot the phone).
you mean repartitioning via odin?
somehow i tried flashing the original roms from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278
but it didnt work. got any link for me (esp. new bootloader)?
Modem ver is XXLP6, prior to that i have been using BOKJ1 which was said to be specifically for T-Mobile (my carrier). the problem occurred on bokj1 too, just a bit less frequently.
Hm, no one else having these problems?
i guess i got unlucky with my device then ...
Hi to everyone..well..as the title says my phone keeps freezing after seconds it boots. i was on PA v3.6 and decided to flash the newest release so i did.. after that it's been only problems. i did the wipes, but it constantly freezes.. so i decided to go back to stock and try again.. so i did with odin, but it keeps freezing even when the first settings pops out. i don't even install any apps. it just freeze, even if i reboot the phone and leave it to deep sleep i find myself with the same problem. i've been flashing custom roms since i bought the galaxy s1 and i never had any problems. i tried the dummy file thing but it keeps happening. does anybody knows how can i fix this?
Freezing is usually the memory controller working around bad memory blocks. Try reading the 'unusual freezing' thread in the general forum.
Hi all,
Last night my phone started to randomly reboot itself, even in Safe Mode! It's now to the point where I can't even login -- I enter my pin, the 'Phone is starting' overlay shows for a while, and then it suddenly reboots. I haven't installed a new app for at least 2 weeks at this point, and the reboot was happening before I updated my apps. After updating, things seemed to get worse maybe?
Is there any way I can salvage my phone or do I have to hard factory reset via hardware buttons?
Its called bootloop. you need to flash your phone to fix this problem and flashing can fix all the software issues of your device.
I was afraid of that... Just a bit worrying that it happened randomly when running stock.
Ok, thanks!
I had same issue when ran android 9 in 2019, however, I fix this issue by doing a clean flash. Yes, you will lose everything, so make sure you do a backup via google.

If you didn't add an app or update that caused it either the boot load got corrupted or it's a hardware issue. The flash memory should not spontaneously get corrupted unless it's defective ie a hardware issue. However anything is possible... quantum physics.
More than likely it was a poorly written app or update that caused it. 3rd party launchers and power management apps are prime suspects. It may take a week or more to manifest its self as a boot loop. Any signs of system lagging or instability should be taken seriously as they are the only warnings you may get before a boot loop*.
A virus or rootkit** is another prime candidate.
Do a factory reset now. Be wary of which apps you load and avoid any updates until the system is know to be stable. Then add apps and updates one at a time. Updates many times aren't really needed.
Over a year ago I had 2 back to back boot loops on my Note 10+... yes, and 2 factory resets and full reloads.
The prime suspects were as I mentioned above. Neither one was reloaded after the 3red factory reset. A year latter that 3rd reload is still running fast and stable. Fun times
**if your Android version is 9 or above a factory reset will purge any virus or rootkit as long as you don't inadvertently reintroduce it. Be careful what apps you load and what you download.
If the Android version is 8 or below, they are suspectable to a nasty rootkit that requires a firmware reflash to purge. Pie and above are not.
1. For me, it was also itself rebooting, only while phone were in pocket / case. So do not use any of them (searched on reddit forum, was exactly same topic)
2. Maybe sim ejection tool is not correct be inside, don't often open and close it
My pixel reboots randomly during the date, whether i use it or not..
Also when i use the camera app, the app very often crashes and the phone restarts..
I have done all the updates, i 've tried in safe mode, i 've done hard reset..
Till now nothing has solved the problem..
Any ideas?
warranty & replace it.
if random reboots suddenly occur, it's a hardware problem.
I' ve read that some other users have experienced a similar problem..
I am interesting in finding out how they resolved the issue..
Rma, flashing custom rom etc..

I had the same problem. I rooted my device a few months ago and everytyhing worked fine until the January update. I used the android flashtool and rooted it again. A week later the same problem occured again. So I did a full wiped, locked the bootloader again and everything works fine again.
