Question Alt codes not working - Windows 11

Hey community!
Something seems to be interfering with my Alt codes. This is what I've tried so far:
Enable Mouse Keys When Num Lock Is ON
Enable Entry of All Unicode Characters Via Regedit
Safe Mode
Upgrading from Windows 10 to Windows 11 (not for this issue but it didn't fix it either)
Different keyboard layouts
Using an external keyboard
Windows troubleshooter (lol)
Enable Human Interface Device Service
Where it does work for some reason:
For a short moment after logging in (able to add one character in notepad, then it stops working)
The above is the same for both regular startup as safe mode
On the login/lock screen
In the settings search box

In the Start Menu
It doesn't work in the browser, in notepad, MS Word, the 'Run' window or anywhere else. What's weirder is that it sometimes works in all these places when trying single number alt codes. Like when I consequently press Alt+1 a lot of times in Notepad it shows a series of smileys (☺) but only if I do this really fast. This doesn't work in the Start menu or in the settings search box but it does properly register all single number alt codes in the lock screen.
I don't understand how this is possible. It seems like the system is struggling with Unicode in some places but not all. What am I not seeing here?
I'm on a HP ZBook 15 G6.

@Timmmmaaahh! Seems I don't have the issue, or I'm too stupid to reproduce the problem. If I typ ALT+1 the smilie is immediately inserted. Test: ☺

Definitely not too stupid
I've read elsewhere of people having this issue but I'm assuming it's either very rare or not that many people make use of alt codes. I use it daily so it's rather frustrating. As a workaround I press the Windows-key, enter the alt code, then copy-paste the character to where I need it – like this en dash, my trusted 0150.

Since my retirement I'm barely using the codes. Totally different before when I was working in an international environment where the system language was EN/UK and the keyboards QWERTY's. This means if I wanted to communicate in my native language ALT+CODE was the regular procedure as I hated workarounds that disfeatured my language like a "ae" instead of "ä".
Please let me know if I can test something else or some specific codes.

totally useless, I like it
Nice app!
Does what it says!
I haven't tried a bitmap yet, but I found two bugs allready:
On my TD2 when I slide on the topmost part of the screen it does not change the speed. It changes the direction of the screen. And if I scroll again on the same area then the app exits since the hotspots have changed...
Other than that, cool...

Sure. I'm a noob, but I will try this answer:
in file manager, when you are on the program name, select copy
Then go file explorer,(click up on bottom left till you see the windows directory) open windows, start, then program, and then
Click windows, start menu, programs, and then menu and paste (to paste the shortcut on that menu.
That's how I changed and removed all the crap that originally came on my Fuze.
(and I really do still consider myself a noob on my ppc.)
cheers, and (if I was wrong in a command, please be VERY gentle!)

[REQ] Music Player with Search (text) function

I was playing with Groovefish last week (while it was still working) and realized that I really enjoyed searching for music by text (artist name, title, etc) instead of trying to sift through my lists of mp3s stored on the device.
It got me thinking- why aren't there any good music players out there that with a text search option?
I'm picturing it working on some sort of index, similar to the way you can type a contact name or subject/sender in messaging, and it will narrow down the list of options as you type in real-time.
For devices with keyboards, this would be an invaluable tool. Does something like this exist and I've just missed it? If not, how hard would it be to implement?
yes there is actually
I wrote such a program a (very long) while ago. A small part of it's interface is in hebrew but basically it is icon based. Also, it is written for QVGA devices and i don't know how it will run on WM 6.5 and later.
It is meant to be finger friendly and easy to operate while driving, that's why i chose to implement this kind of input method.
I stopped development in the middle of making a new, WVGA compatible version with a whole new interface based on ALPINE's car audio system and haven't continued since.

The search box is next to the magnifying glass icon and it updates the list in real-time.
You can download it here:

If you have any questions, hit the "i" button - my e-mail address is written there.
There's an awesome one called Windows Media Player. It comes with your device. You start typing and it filters
yeah- try using those tiny icons on a wvga display while driving, blue.
WMP is pretty terrible to use without a stylus, although it will sort through a list of titles as you type, now that you point it out. The problem, aside for the lack of finger friendliness, is that the search is only in the category u select.
In other words, I have to first click artist if I'm searching for an artist, or album if I want the album name. What I love about searching with groovefish is that I can type any part of the name, artist, album, etc, and it will find it on a whim. Being able to do that locally in real time would be extremely useful, especially with some nice big icons to click.
Gorel, my hebrew is a bit weak, but I can fake my way through it. Too bad you stopped development... theres really nothing else out there like this?
I'm sorry, not that i know of.
I may get back to deveploment now that i have my hd2 but it is very time consuming and it is very low on my priority list (i am not a pro)...
I think it is best if one of the developers here would incorporate this feature into his own software - it basically a simple sql query and shouldn't be too hard for a pro to implement.
edit: I just thought of something, assuming you have an hd2, you could use the zoom feature to make the program appear full screen!
Let me see... where did I put that hd2...

Far has I know it is still in beta over there in China.... but I can not read chinese....
Here are some pictures!
I really like this keyboard it has always been one of my favorites ever sense the first beta last year. now they have made lots of changes and it is even better.
When you install it it will be in chinese. you will need to go to settings and switch it to english.
Looks nice. Downloading now.
EDIT: Just tried it out for a while. Verdict: It's great!
Once you turn off the Chinese language, the text prediction is great, and the buttons are quick and responsive. I like the option to have different layouts for portrait vs. landscape (even though I just use QWERTY for both). The edit button is top center, and very handy, since I came from a G1 and the Vibrant has no trackball/d-pad to edit words. One note though, the delete button in Edit deletes the next character, not the previous. Not a huge deal, since the backspace on the keyboard still deletes the previous character and you could just select what you need to delete in the Edit screen, just a weird change. If you don't know what I mean, try it out yourself, it's worth a try at least
I love that style of keyboard with the two letters per key (Like on my original Blackberry Pearl).
@Phromik
Yeah it is a great little keyboard. my favorite feature is being able to swipe to change from T9 to QWERTY

I am new to the Android side of XDA just picked up my Vibrant 2 days ago and loving it.............
My favorite too......one of the first things I downloaded to my Vibrant and seems to work pretty well just missing the ability to save passwords or url or email adresses (one click entry in the username or password box for websites is really slick and I miss that the most). It is still beta so we will see if they implement it later on.
Link not working... looks fun though

Um, why does the app need access to Contacts and Voice Recorder?
I ask, because we (in the I.T. dept) are being bombarded by Chinese malware and such.
The permissions do seem a bit excessive for a keyboard.
Requires these permissions:
Your personal information
read contact data
Network communication
full Internet access, view network state, view Wi-Fi state
Hardware controls
control vibrator, record a

Any complete notebook app?

Anyone know a good notebook app that have the following features:
-Lines, so you can use the keyboard (on screen or not) to tap, and the words follow the lines.
-Free drawing mode: So you can draw anywere you want.
-Text boxes: Like Paint program on Windows, it allows you to write on the text boxes, and allows you to move the box anywere, if needed.
-Different colors: I think almost all notebook apps have that, but this is a must. Be able to change the color in some phrases, words or paragraphs. This goes for drawing mode too.
-Highlights
This:
Be able to highlight some parts of the text, obvious.
I'm sorry if I am asking too much, but a app like that would be awesome for future use.
I still don't have my Prime (will buy in March or April), but I am already asking just for have something that I can install right after it get out of the box.
Thanks.
Anyone knows?
Try free note. I use it work everyday and it seems to be the most complete note app
I will search for videos. As I said, I still don't have my Prime, buyin it on April, so I am already asking opinions and such.
Sent for my X10 Mini Pro, running 2.3.7
If I helped, please press Thanks.

Your prime will come with an app called Supernote and it does everything you are looking for.

Keyboards? Voice Input?

Having just spent $20 on 8 different keyboards and trying various 'free' keyboards as well, Im wondering what you all find works well for the Note.
Right now, I find Better Keyboard 8.9.9 on the Amazon Market ($3) the keyboard that is working well for me, primarily because it extends the size of the 2nd and third row keys to fit the phone's width which makes the keys easier to hit. All the settings are stock except I disabled auto correct as it keeps changing my abbreviations to words I dont intend (bldg for example keeps getting changed to either bulldog or another word that is slipping my mind).
Supposedly Swiftkey has very good text prediction which might be interesting but I havent used it enough yet to know. Not yet sure the difference between the tablet version ($3) and the phone version (free) nor do I know which I should use for the Note. My assumption is the $3 version would offer more than the free version but I havent had a chance to look at it.
Of course, one of the other things about the keyboard stuff is that it requires using for a few days to determine if a keyboard is working for you.
Im also looking for a good speech to text app, it needs to be something I can select from the keyboard when it appears - ie. clicking the little microphone in the corner on whatever keyboard appears (not sure if Android lets you use a custom keyboard and change the voice recognition app from Google Voice to something else). It is important to be able to toggle the voice recognition from the keyboard as I am using some custom software on my Android phone for work that requires me to do text entry, the app does not support anything other than a keyboard meaning that I want to bring the keyboard up, tap the mic in the corner, say what I need to and have that automatically put into the field. Google Voice is ok but Im wondering if there isnt something better.
My favorite by far is the tablet Swype beta. Some people find the keys to be too small, but I find that it works great for me, and my fingers are fat. Also, using the spen makes it the fastest and most accurate text entry method I have used by far. It also includes speech to text through dragon dictate, which can be activated by the key on the keyboard and is very accurate, more accurate than the stock android voice recognition in my opinion. Here is a picture of the keyboard:
