Person asked this question in an AT&T TWRP-flashable zip (stock ROM) thread -- which is not a question about that TWRP flashable zip and he doesn't mention anything about wanting to bootloader unlock and root (needed to any TWRP-flashable zip). Plus, he should be an AT&T customer to use that firmware, and he lives in UK.
So, answering here, in Q&A section.

WHICH V30 VARIANT TO BUY?
kakawak said:
hi people,
im considering buying an lg v30 and as i stay in the UK i was wondering if this will be ok to use on the VirginUK network or will i have any issues with the bands the carrier use? also, will 4g work ok?
Are there any models to avoid if buying an American version ie. ATT, SPrint or Verizon.
thanks in advance

For your purposes, stay away from T-mobile H932. They are locked to T-mobile and even if carrier unlocked (only possible through T-mobile servers, not some "unlock code"), they have sometimes relocked when updating firmware (like Nougat to Oreo, or Oreo to Pie). ONLY T-mobile customers should buy T-mobile H932.
You want V30 with LTE bands compatible with Virgin UK. Allegedly, Virgin UK uses LTE bands 3, 7, 20. Of course, you want carrier unlocked.
All US998 are carrier unlocked and have these bands below:
US998
CDMA: 800 MHz CDMA
2G GSM: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz
3G UMTS (HSPA):850/900/1900/2100 MHz
4G LTE Bands: 1/2/3/4/5/7/12(17)/13/20/25/66
EU H930 (64GB) and H930G (128GB) are carrier unlocked and have these bands:
H930
2G GSM: 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G (HSPA): 850 / 900 / 1900 / 2100
4G LTE: 1/2/3/4/5/8/12/17/20/28/38
While Sprint LS998 is locked to Sprint, it can be easily converted to US998 (Frankenstein) to carrier unlock it and have those US998 bands.
The US998 V30+/LS998 V30+ has 128GB internal memory, while most others (except for H930DS and H930G) have only 64GB internal memory.
Verizon VS996 and Canada H933 are also carrier unlocked, but VS996 will give you non-Verizon SIM card nag warnings every time you reboot. You can also convert those to US998 and vice-versa, but they still only have 64GB internal memory.
AT&T H931 are locked to AT&T, but can be carrier unlocked via code. However you can't get updates, because AT&T only gives updates via FOTA to AT&T customers. Same update situation with Sprint LS998. If you get either of those, first thing to do would be to Frankenstein to US998 firmware! Or just buy US998 V30+ .
I'm advising you to get a 128GB US998 V30+.
EU H930/H930G are made for European territory, so it would also be a choice for you.
All V30 variants can be bootloader unlocked and rooted. You didn't ask about that and that may not be important to you but this answer just isn't for you.
thanks for the informative response chazzmatt
whats your opinion on the screen brightness, retention or burn issues with the V30 compared to the G7?
If you had a choice which one?
so a V30+ on fleabay is 128GB US998 V30+ US Cellular version and/or if i decide to buy a LG G7 ThinQ G710ULM or LG G7 ThinQ Verizon G710VMP or LG G7 ThinQ G710PM are these ok?
thanks!

Very few US998 are actually U.S. Cellular. They are very small cell phone company. USS98 was also the official Open Market V30, sold by 3rd party authorized retailers straight from LG. Plus, many Sprint LS998 were converted to US998.
Doesn't matter. All US998 are carrier unlocked.
Most eBay dealers don't really know what they're selling or they are forced to use templates that don't match what they're selling.
I don't have any of those issues, but I buy the "mint" offerings.
so does that mean i could purchase any of these if i decide against the V30?
LG G7 ThinQ G710ULM or LG G7 ThinQ Verizon G710VMP or LG G7 ThinQ G710PM...the latter being the cheapest out of the 3 options.
you didnt give me your opinion on which phone you would go for...any preference?
cheers

You should really ask in the G7 forum. I prefer V30.
The V35 is the successor to the V30, not the G7. I have a mint V35 in the box, but I still use my V30+. I bought V35 instead of G7.
Hi!
Will an unlocked T-Mobile LG V60 ThinQ 5G work on the Verizon network?
No.... Verizon uses CDMA... Tmobile uses GSM. Completely different system.
Sorry.

I was using a oneplus 7 pro on t-mobile and recently switched to Verizon with that same phone and it works perfectly on Verizon network.
Case in point.
I will research further. There are devices that can operate on both GSM and CDMA.
In regards to*5G, the T-Mobile and AT&T*LG V60 ThinQ*models support Sub6 (low-band) and mid-band*(Sprint is currently using it) networks. The Verizon model supports the faster, shorter range mmWave*5G*(high-band) technology, but not these other*bands*so it is not as universal.
So no mmwave radio on the T-Mobile version V60.
Supported bands according to the Internet
GSM / CDMA / HSPA / EVDO / LTE / 5G3G*bandsHSDPA 850 / 900 / 1700(AWS) / 1900 / 2100CDMA2000 1xEV-DO4G*bands2, 4, 5, 12, 25, 26, 41, 46, 48, 66, 71 - USA5G*bands2, 25, 41, 66, 71 SA/NSA/Sub6
If it actually has CDMA bands then it may work in some areas but no 5G.
In the past different carriers had different versions of each phone model GSM or CDMA
Not usually both.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.
I am not concern about having 5G. It's not on my plan and I won't be getting it. 5G is still in its early stages, so not jumping in til next year or two.
That aside, it looks like the T-Mobile model has the bands for 4G LTe on Verizon.
I can't find the Verizon V60 anywhere, hence why I am force to go with the T-Mobile variant.
It will work, but no 5g.

Does anyone know if cell phones have their bands locked by region for example the new Sony Xperia 1 iii has 3 different regions w all different bands, if I buy a phone with the Asian or European ROM and flash the US ROM on it will the bands change and open with the new flashed ROM, or each model has it's specific bands ... Thanks
Each model has specific bands. Although it's looking like in the USA tmobile will have the most band support
I saw that was just hoping that with a ROM flash you could unlock bands by region, wanted to buy the gray 512gb one... I guess not

It has expandable storage so base storage isn't really a big deal. IMHO. I'm currently using a note 20 ultra with 1tb SD card. Haven't run into any problems.
