I tried all combinations to enter in recovery mode in a Archos 35 Home Connect to install SDE firmware, without success.
I asked to archos support and they wrote me this:
"Turn the device OFF, then press the power button of the device and while the 1 st boot screen is on the screen press twice the power button to start the device in recovery mode."
But when I power on and hold the power button, it never pass to banner logo, reboot again in white screen. If I press power button twice in the white screen (instead banner logo), the boot stop and stay in white screen and hold waiting, and no continue boot, but never show the recovery screen.
So, i'm doing something wrong or recovery doesn't work. If any has success with this, it would be hepful.
has any body found how to do this? as I would like to know too.
Press the power button twice during displaying the first boot logo. It is a bit tricky.

no luck yet at entering the recovery mode though. i have tried about three or four times with quick double presses and longer slower double presses.
does a second boot logo screen show when you go into recovery mode or does it just stop at one boot logo screen?
I have not installed anything bootable yet.
It says by the power button "RESET: 10 sec". Has any one tried this?
I want to root following these instructions
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=930197
but holding down the "Vol-" button does not work.
Hello divx118
Still no luck in entering the download mode, is it two quick presses on the power button or two long presses?
Exactly which screen do I do these two presses, the boot screen goes
1. white screen.
2. Black screen.
3. a screen showing the still "Archos entertainment your way" logo.
4. a screen showing the moving "Archos entertainment your way" logo.
I am running firmware version 2.4.82
Sorry, it was a long time ago I did it. It should be like this:
- Press and hold the power button until the ARCHOS banner is displayed and then release it.
- Press the power button twice (like a mouse double-click) while the banner is still displaying.
- A white Recovery screen should appear within a couple of seconds.
- To move from one option to another, press the power button. To select the highlighted item, hold down on the power button.

Don't forget the first step hold the power button until the first archos banner appears so the first screen with the "Archos entertainment your way" logo.
BTW the 10 second hold down of the power button is like a hard reset if the device hangs it will be forced to power down.

Are you guys rooting your home connect? If so, what are you doing after root?
Shouting I have rootzzz....
Sorry couldn't resist.
Access to recovery has multiple advantages:
1) If you really mess up your device or it does funny things you can reformat and reinstall original firmware in recovery.
2) You can install SDE and flash another kernel so you can also boot other OS for example openaos multiboot to boot debian, Gingerbread etc.
Is option 2 usefull for the home connect, no if you just have it sitting on a table and use it like it is supposed to be and yes if you like to play around with gadgets to learn new things.

I had some luck but only two times after hundred tries . It's very difficult to enter in recovery method. If archos not solve this in a more easy way you can broke the power button trying to enter in recovery. If someone could make a software to reboot into recovery by software, should be more hepful.

By software you need to be root and with adb shell type the command :
Code:
# reboot_into recovery
Thanks alephzain, I knew the script, but as you said only work for root, and previousloy you must enter in recovery. Finally after some hundreds of intents, I got the trick. I hope it should be usefull for some. The doble click with power button it's difficult to do in the exact time so I did this:
1. Power off
2. Power on and hold the power button for about 6 seconds
3. Do clicks in power button like a crazy men until banner appears.
4. But the most important is to stop doing clicks previously recovery window appears, because power button in recovery it's also the select option and if you don't stop, you will quit from recovery. It's very tricky, but with some tries you got it.
Now my archos home connect is rooted, and like alephzain "reboot_into recovery" works.
Any other instructions?
Hi!
I've read all the instructions in this forum and succeded in entering the recovery menu once. Then I installed the SDE firmware. Now when I start the device the first screen is a white screen and the method described in the above post doesn't work anymore.
The problem is the same as the original post describes:

And thus my qestion is the same as was mentioned in the following post.

Does anybody that has succeded in rooting their Archos 35 home connect remember how they entered the recovery menu after they did the SDE firmware installation?
Same Problem
I've got exaclty the same problem! After flashing the SDE I cannot get into recovery anymore. Booting the stock rom still works.
I also have adb-access in stock-rom, but I'm not root so I cannot set the 'reboot_into recovery'.
Anyone solve that problem?

I find out this method:
- Plug in usb-cable (and of course power supply)
- Press and hold down power button. for 5seconds. Release the button for just 1sec and press the power button again for 5sec. Release it again for 1sec and press an hold again (always the same procedure). At a couple of time, the screen get black. Immediatly release the power button.
- Now there should be a bootmenu, where you have 3 choices (Android, Developer, Recovery). Choose recovery, to enter recovery.
note: If you see the still archos logo, you already loose to enter bootmenu!
Feel free to improve timings/procedure to enter bootmenu!

This method does not work if the SDE is installed. You get a white screen, and there seems to be no way to get into the recovery menu. I've contacted ARCHOS support about this, but not confident that I'll get a reply.
According to this archos.com/support/support_tech/updates_dev.html?country=us&lang=en then the HOME CONNECT 35 is not even listed. I've tried both methods listed (hoping that the HC35 would be the same as the A28):
The recovery is triggered by powering on the device while pressing the 'volume down' button (or 3 consecutive short press on the power button for the A28)

I've read in different forums (English and German) that some people have been sucessful, however nobody has described how they acheived it.
The ADB command REBOOT RECOVERY also doesn't work.
Any tips from the experts would be appreciated.

You read my text? This method only works at white screen if the SDE is installed! Read and try again!

Of course I read your text, that's why I quoted it. It doesn't work for me. Sure the white screen comes up, I press for 5 seconds release for 1 and repeat until the screen goes black. The white screen comes back for a while followed by the ARCHOS logo. Tried with & without USB cable, with and without MicroSD card. All results the same. No recovery menu.
Firmware 2.4.83
Board version A35DM-V7
OMAP version es1.2
Boot version unknown / 4.04.000000

That's strange. It work's for me every time! With and without USB cable works equal for me:
Power off -> Hold Power on 5-6sec (white screen appears) -> 1-2sec release -> 5-6sec press+hold -> 1-2sec release -> 5-6sec press+hold -> 1-2sec release -> press+hold again and after ~2sec screen get black. Release button immedialtly! The Archos logo appears for a fraction of a second (it just blinks) and for me a white screen with the bootmenu appears.
This method works every time for me! I have to do it to boot the developer kernel (I don't want to delete the original android fw). Did you install SDE without problems?

I had no issues installing the sde. I could get into the menu no issue before sde.
What board + boot version do you have? I wonder why mine says unknown.

Exactly everything the same as yours! I installed the SDE a second time (copied the .aos file to the internal sd-storage and execute it with filemanager). Could that be the reason?
Hi,
since I have rooted my device (iMiTo AM801 running Android Gingerbread 2.3.1) I'm not anymore able to power off it properly.
After pressing for some seconds the power button and after I confirm the message asking if I want to power off the device, it never actually turns off and I need to press the reset button.
The problem is that quite often the reset button restart the device!! so I'm stucked.
PS: after I start the procedure for normal turn off (pressing the power button for some seconds, and answering the confirmation message) in the background I see a a message appearing just in the bottom toolbar of Android, but I cannot see what is says as the power off message is a modal window.
Any help, thanks in advance.
I solved this issue by installing one of the apps available on the Android market enabling to reboot the system.

I've had those symptoms or something very close. I managed to get it fixed with 10 minutes of button pressing - it was a case of holding the power button until the screen went blank and then guessing when to release the button before an immediate "hold volume down and press power" to get to the bootloader.

Click Application Manager.
Scroll to the right until the screen apps.
Tap the desired application
Click Uninstall.
Click Uninstall again to confirm
Disable safe mode

HELP! Blue Wave 8 33GT tablet stuck in recovery mode with "No command" message
I got my Blue Wave 8 33GT (not HD+) tablet completely bricked. First of all, I know this is not really a popular device and some of you might not have a single knowledge about this one, but I hope in any way you might help me get this device working again. Thank you in advance!
Some info about this device:
Bluewave's website: Wave 8
Android OS version: 4.4 KitKat
Device processor: Rockchip-based (RK31)
What just happened? It suddenly reboots while I'm playing and gone into recovery mode with an Android and a "No command." message. Now it won't boot the system anymore whenever I reboot, it always going into this recovery mode.
It has no volume buttons, just a reset, a hard back button and power button. Holding down the power and back button goes into the recovery mode directly. Through normal boot, it flashes the Bluewave logo twice then goes into the recovery. While the reset button immediately turn the device off. There's nothing else I can think of that I can do in this case.
My laptop can recognize it as an ADB Device in recovery mode and I think I may be able to flash it via Rockchip BatchTool, but the instructions I've read states that the device should be up and with a USB debugging enabled which I am not currently able to do in recovery mode. Device is rooted and working totally fine until this happened.
Anyone got into this kind of problem and able to go through it? Please, any help is greatly appreciated.
P.S
Just let me know if there are any additional info I could give you.
What about hard reset.

Hey! Thanks for your reply and time.
I tried every combination of either of the two keys but there is no such recovery menu showing up, and I am pretty sure that this device doesn't have a built-in recovery for factory reset.
If only I could go to its download mode stuff to be able to flash the firmware...

"Long press the power button to restart the device. If restarting fails, hard reset the tablet by poking the Reset hole using a pin. " it is from FAQ
maybe this could help.
1. Press the power button to get the option menu for
Power off
Reboot
Silence phone option.
2. on that menu you have to hold down that power off option on your touch screen while also holding down the home push button on the side of your tablet.
3. This brings up a screen to reboot into safe mode..(these are the 3 steps the company does not tell you that is why no one gets it to work.
4. HIt yes for safe mode and then hold down your power and home buttons on side of tablet till the dopo Logo appears.
5. Release both buttons and hit the power button one time and then hold only the home button down till a menu option appears.
6. Use the home button to move down to factory reset and press the power button to select. Once it says complete then use the power button to select reboot.
Problem solved. Hope this will help everyone out.
The only way is to remove the battery, attached again the battery then power it on their is no hard reset on blue wave the go to settings factory reset
