DivestOS is a more private and more secure aftermarket system.
(normally I only make threads for devices known fully working, however making this thread to replace an unofficial and improper thread)
Poco F1 Notes:
- camera does not work on these builds due to a longstanding incompatibility with the kernel changes made
a workaround is to flash an official LineageOS boot.img, however that negates all of the kernel security patches and hardening
if anyone technical can help bisect the changes that would be much appreciated
help to compile and what to change can be provided as needed
Features:
- strong focus on FOSS
- various system hardening
- various privacy enhancements
- automated removal of unnecessary proprietary blobs
- automated kernel hardening and CVE patching
- ability to relock bootloader on supported devices
- verified boot on supported devices
- no root support
- SELinux always enforcing
- encrypted by default
- monthly updates
- OTA delta updates
- OTA updates over Tor (optional)
- F-Droid included
- hardened system WebView with rapid updates: https://divestos.org/misc/ch-dates.txt
Extra Features (not installed by default & also compatible with all systems):
- Mull, our hardened fork of Fenix with rapid updates: https://divestos.org/misc/ffa-dates.txt
- Hypatia, our real-time malware scanner
- Extirpater, our free space eraser

Probably something with hardening broke it?
I tag @Pierre2324 and @REIGNZ3 which maintain their own kernels, if they have some spare free time beside their own projects, to take a look and help with info if possible.

perhaps, the camera isn't broken on any other device with the same changes and I spent many hours sanity check the changes that are applied to it
even overhauled a lot of the CVE patcher in hopes it'd fix it: https://divestos.org/index.php?page=news#2022-03.2
it is a weird outlier

Thanks I'll pull it into next update and see if it goes, but given the LineageOS kernel is known working I'm confident it is something I broke.

I know this is time consuming but If you have time, add your sauce to kernel one by one, give for testing each time and see what change result to break the camera

@SkewedZeppelin or you can try something like "binary search": apply 50% of patches. In case of no luck, apply other part. For else, divide problematic part again (to apply 50% from this patches). And so on... Anyway, thanks for great ROM!

Introduction
LineageOS 17.1 is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 10.0, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device. The port for the Exynos7580 based devices was created by @Stricted and I along with many contributions from other people in the Android community.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.
What worksCalls, SMS, Mobile Data
Camera
NFC
WiFi
Bluetooth
Torch
Sensors
GPS
SELinux Enforcing
HWCWhat doesn't work (official blockers)
IMS services (VoLTE, VoWiFi, etc). Samsung has their own proprietary implementation. It is not really possible to easily port that to LineageOS.
WiFi tether (hotspot) not functional fixed in 22/02/2020 release
HD headsets in call not working fixed in 21/01/2020 release
FP scanner has been reported unstable fixed in 22/02/2020 release
NFC HCE (GooglePay etc) fixed in 07/03/2020 release
You tell me!
Known Issues
If you are running the latest update and are not able to enroll a fingerprint you may need to clear the fingerprint data using this zip (flashable in TWRP): https://mega.nz/#!6YZV2QTY!hOYYwrbkTPfThUIJUffOEQWMosdCxeqy_7JdGpYp3AA
There are still quite a few features that are not yet completed for LineageOS 17.1, these are not bugs this is a beta release.
Any hardware related issues will be ignored if you do not provide:
a) Logcat
b) proc/last_kmsg
c) data/tombstones
d) dmesg
Also do not under any circumstances post bug reports if you are using substratum themes or unsupported magisk modules or you have performed any system modifications
Installation
Install the latest TWRP (Available Here)
Make a full backup (just in case something goes wrong)
Do a full wipe (Cache, Data, System)
If this is your first time on a LineageOS ROM format data
Download the latest LOS build and transfer it to your phone
Install LOS
If you are installing GApps do it at the same time (preferably in the same install queue)
And finally boot, the first boot can take several minutes as it optimises all the apps
Do NOT install the TWRP app when prompted, this will cause a bootloop Downloads

Bugs I have faced:
- Pixel launcher and Trebuchet keep crashing the second I finish the setup process (especially Pixel Launcher), I had to disable them and install lawnchair to be able to use the phone
- disabling the default dialer also disables the call screen even if Google dialer is installed
I'm not using any mods except magisk
I'll report more bugs if I found them

NFC is tested and working.
Issues with google pay could be caused by anything from bad Gapps (OpenGapps are still in beta) to bad card details.
Does your phone pass SafetyNet?
(you can test this in Magisk)
Some mods people install break SafetyNet.
Are you able to make a log with matlog of a failed pay attempt?
I will need a verbose log from there, matlog removes sensitive information by default but send the log to me privately (usually people upload to google drive and send them to me)
Regards,
Danny

My advice would be to not install a gapps > nano. Opengapps is in beta so expect bugs.

Here is one from the OTA Updater:
EDIT: It is on purpose that it identifies itself as LineageOS. If I could I would post it as Lineage here; but 2 different Lineages would confuse users; so I called it "Mint-OS" (like my old Mint Kernel)
Thanks for update!
This ROM works great! This is the first custom ROM I put on the Moto G5 and it is already way better (and more up to date) than stock Android 8. Have been using it for a couple of hours and I must say it is very stable and smooth.
Only thing I noticed is that the mobile network setting is set to GSM/WCDMA by default. I was not getting LTE but switching the setting to GSM/WCDMA/LTE worked as expected. I'm not sure if this is intended or not, but LTE works as it should after changing the setting.
Is VoWiFi (WiFi-Calling) working?

Okay, that bug is a strange one. I never had issues with that and was not able to reproduce... Well, as long as it works after changing the setting - fine

You can test it if you turn on the airplane mode and wait until all radio interfaces are disabled. Then turn on WiFi manually.
Are you able to do normal SIM-based phone calls?
Thanks for testing

Are you able to do normal SIM-based phone calls?

No. It shows "Disable airplane mode or connect to a WiFi network." It could be my hosts file for adblocking but probably it's just broken.
EDIT: I just informed CodeZero about this issue

@[email protected] Just got the info that VoWiFi isn't supported by this device and the settings should not appear.
This looks very promising, thanks. I am installing now to test it.
Regarding "Gapps"... is there a workaround for apps "need" the Playstore to function? (An example is MercadoPago, that sadly is needed now a days)
Edit: If it helps anyone; when an APP gives you a warning regarding the missing PlayStore, just tap "Back" and it will ignore the warning and enter the app.
I've been using this for a bit. So far, so good.
One question… what's the deal with updates? Usually there will be one ~30MB and another ~600+MB. I tried the smaller update and it would fail outright. The text screen of the installer would flash for a second (too quick to read) and just switch to the TWRP main screen. The bigger update (full ROM, I assume) works OK.
On the topic of updates, there is no changelog, I guess because the G5 doesn't exist as a LineageOS device. Will this be fixed? Having daily builds aren't much use to me if I can't see what's new - honestly I'm only interested in major bug fixes and security updates.
Cheers
Everyone works fine so far, thanks.

Hello
Sorry for the late reply - I didn't look into XDA for some time
Okay, point for point:
- The small updates were a test for incremental updates. They did not work as you noticed and are disabled now.
- You're right, the big update is the full ROM
- About Changelog: For Mint- and Device-specific and important changes I have https://t.me/s/MintOS_News and the Lineage Changelog doesn't exist but it just is what got merged into Lineage since the last build. When a new security patch arises I will normally (when I notice it ) announce it in the Telegram Channel linked above.
5th June security patch is out - download in OP

Hi, this is really great! I'm on e OS now so I'm accustomed to (almost) no google. Although I want to ask:
1. if microG is possible to install and use? Say like in a work profile. I have a banking app which is dependent on google and I figure if bootloader is locked it won't detect root no more.
2. Updates are OTA?
3. Reverse process is possible? Going back to e OS in examlpe

1. microG is not supported by DivestOS. If you want to compile DivestOS yourself you just need to change one line to build in microG. However simply having a locked bootloader with microG is not enough to pass SafetyNet. At a minimum you'd likely need 'DroidGuard Helper'.
2. Yes, of course.
3. Most definitely. Just unlock and flash whatever.
Ok, thanks
It actually isn*t depending on SafetyNet, just detects root (unlocked bootloader I think) with Rootbeer. Using Magisk hide is only solution now. Dunno if Droid Guard helper has been updated yet. I'll check into it tho.
Going stock with locked bootloader is out of the question. Guess I'll just go ahead with this, and use a second device for that app.
Keep up the good work
@Kjivar
Anyway, locking the bootloader is perhaps a bad idea while running a custom rom - if the phone becomes unbootable for some reason, you may not be able to fix it.
Edit: see reply below - locking is safe on this rom (but I still wouldn't try it on any other rom)

Bootloader locking on supported devices is one of the primary benefits of running DivestOS.
Older devices let you unlock no matter and newer ones will do so as long as OEM unlocking is checked.
Even if /system is corrupted the OEM unlock flag is stored in the checksummed persistent data block and you'd still be able to unlock to fix.
Especially on older devices bootloader locking can be bypassed using manufacturer tools.
My daily driver for the past five years has always had its bootloader locked.
And my stack of test devices all have their bootloader locked.
It is not my fault other ROMs aren't signed correctly to support such a basic feature.

I don't believe most users need root access, and it also reduces security and prevents easily using features such as verified boot.
GAPPS goes strongly against the privacy and freedom that DivestOS strives to offer, as it is proprietary code from Google.

Hi guys.
I have device LG Nexus 5x bullhead and tried to install Divest on it.
(I installed custom ROMs several times, I am not new to this process)
All went smooth, but when I was setting up the phone, on the step to set the screen lock pin/pattern - it just crashed.
After this I had difficulties to boot it even into fastboot menu and when I did - I tried to flash the genuine (Google) ROM on it (I did it several times and it is working ROM), but during the flashing, in the terminal it showed a list of archives missing.
Now the phones goes to Google logo and then to black screen.
Well, I do not know if there is any workaround or not.
Please advice.
Thanks

That sounds less like a DivestOS issue and more like user-error or the dreaded Nexus 5X bootloop issue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LG_smartphone_bootloop_issues#Nexus_5X
I test DivestOS on bullhead each monthly update before release (without issue).

Thanks for replying so soon.
I installed two ROMs before (LineagOS 17.1 and 19.1 Unofficial version) on this device without problem. The unique problem was that I was unable to encrypt the phone on those and that was the main reason to try DivestOS.
I understand it can be the hardware problem (maybe mine), but is there any workaround? Thanks

TWRP should work fine?
DivestOS makes no changes that would lock you to DivestOS or prevent you from switching.
Maybe try a different cable, and a USB 2.0 port.
Also Wi-Fi works fine on my hammerhead, if it doesn't work on multiple systems maybe you have a hardware issue or corrupted persist partition.

No, kexec is explicitly disabled for security reasons: https://github.com/Divested-Mobile/DivestOS-Build/blob/master/Scripts/Common/Functions.sh#L1048
If you want such changes the way to get them is by compiling your own builds: https://divestos.org/pages/build
Ubuntu Touch for this device is also blatantly insecure missing years of basic security patches: https://github.com/ubports/android_kernel_lge_hammerhead/commits/ubp-5.1

maybe possibly supply an optional flashable zip for this minor reduction. giving the user the option to enable this to run nethunter kernel, currently i run it systemless, but i have to use an external wifi adapter, honestly is not very stealthy. I believe there are various benefits to having hardboot, that is just one. (having internal wifi support for nethunter)
P.S. maybe it could be added as a developer option in your OS?

Now that Lineage has dropped support for OnePlus 2, will the device continue to receive updates through DivestOS?

Lineage stopped building for oneplus2 two months ago.
I have no intent on stopping.
That is one of the main features of DivestOS, long term device support.
All devices we support will receive monthly updates.

As I mentioned in that post I do not store old builds.
I can make a new one today if you wait two or so hours.

Cannot find a cast button to cast video over my tv on any of the media players apps like MX Player. Is the cast button something specific to google?

Chromecast does indeed require Google Play Services typically provided by gapps.
Miracast is also not supported as it is proprietary.
VLC however does have experimental Chromecast support that works without gapps.
Not able to stream youtube videos over VLC or MXPlayer. Is it something that is blocked by Divest OS?

YouTube via web browser or app like NewPipe should work just fine.
I don't believe VLC on Android can play YouTube?
You can play a YouTube video in VLC by going to the More tab, then New stream, then pasting a link and hitting go.
I haven't tried MXPlayer.
It does not support only OpenGapps, can I install NikGapps or BitGapps

It does not support *any* Google Apps packages.
Hello guys,
Do you use this ROM on your main smartphone? How do you handle using apps from the playstore? Even for riding bus or train I need some playstore app? However even banking apps (for which I would prefere a most secure OS on my smartphone) are located in the Google playstore.
