I have a Samsung Galaxy A5 2017 (SM-A520F/a5y17lte/android 8.0.0 oreo) but I cannot install TWRP on it. I tried many methods but its not letting me to do it:
-unlock bootloader /failed
-OEM unlock in dev options /hidden and cannot access/failed
-flash stock rom to unlock OEM /failed
-root phone with adb /no fastboot access /failed
-root phone with Odin /failed
-flashing TWRP with adb /no fastboot access/failed
-flashing twrp with odin /"only official binaries are allowed to be flashed" error message in download mode /failed
-uding heimdall (wtf is this program ive never heard it b4) /failed
Anyone got solution to install TWRP ? So i can flash to android 9 and also root my phone. Thank you if you suggest any solution that actually works.

First you have to access developer mode. You have to tap several times on the build number. (Settings/about the phone) In developer mode you heve to enable oem unlocking and usb debugging. Wait for permission request on the phone for access of your PC when attached to the phone.
Next step is to unlock the bootloader.
After this you will be able to install TWRP, which finally gets you to the point where you can install a new ROM. Just follow step by step:
Install LineageOS on a5y17lte | LineageOS Wiki
wiki.lineageos.org
Of course, instead of Lineage, you can use any suitable ROM

Thank you for replying but as I said above i cannot unlock bootloader in any way i tried. So maybe can u find another solution? (Note: i tried following the link u send me and its not working)
How far did you get? OEM unlocking and usb debugging successful?
When putting your phone in fastboot mode and attaching it to the pc, check with "adb devices", if your phone is properly recognised. Using windows, it´s often the drivers. On my system, I had to manually select the ADB driver, since I got no connection before.

Can you see the "developer options" in settings/system when scrolling down ? If not, then:
How to access developer options in Android
Step 1: Go to Settings > About Phone.
Step 2: Tap Software Info > Build Number.
Step 3: Tap Build Number seven times. ...
Step 4: Once developer options are activated, you will see a message that reads, You are now a developer.
Within developer options there are options to enable usb debugging and oem unlock. I recently did this on a Galaxy tab and saw..nothing.
First I had to establish a network connection to my wifi base. Weird, but this brought those wanted menu items...
For further connection, check your computer drivers. Both the manufacturers usb drivers and adb driver are necessary. While connected to a PC, check, if you´re on Windows, the device manager, if the proper driver is chosen.

I see the developer options and the usb debugging switch
But there are 2 problems
1. My pc running windows 10 cannot detect my device (like showing it as a disk so i can copy files to )
2. In developer setting there is no OEM unlock option, which is weird. I triee many solutions but cannot get acess to OEM unlock. I even tried to unlock it with ADB ut its useless since my phone cant even access fastboot mode.(download mode is considered to be fastboot but ADB wont recognise my phone)

On any other device, you would have enjoyed your new TWRP since several days. But Samsung is eager to build as many hurdles as possible, to prevent changing the original software. They invented "KnoxGuard" to "protect" the phone. In your case, it´s aprotection against it´s owner
The error message means, that your phone isn´t successfully unlocked.
Try this:
"FIXED IT!!
The time trick actually worked.
All I had to do was turn back the time by like a year, reboot, enter recovery mode, delete cache, re-enable OEM unlock, spam the update phone button, and boot into download mode!"

I have had my GNex since it was released. However, I just got a new computer. I am trying to set up everything again on my new computer. I got the drivers working to a certain extent. I can get adb to work, however fastboot does not work.
Any suggestions on how to get fastboot working?
Screenshot showing adb clearly works prior to bootloader, but it stops working after going into bootloader. It seems to lose connection to my phone once it is in the bootloader. I tried this multiple times.
SOLVED!
This works:
rootzwiki -> Google/Nexus Devices -> Galaxy Nexus -> "Galaxy Nexus Root Procedure - (broken) ADB Method Dont USE" -> page 3, second to last post on the page (by litso):
"EDIT: Scratch that, was able to use the PDANet drivers. Install PDA Net, reboot into bootloader, open device manager, manually select the directory "C:\Program Files (x86)\PdaNet for Android\usbwin". Fastboot will then recognize the device and allow you to unlock."

Have you tried this tutorial:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-a30/how-to/root-galaxy-a30-magisk-canary-relaese-t3936481
I'm stuck in two problems here...
1- I dont have the option OEM Unlock on my developers option. I think that it maybe because ive checked that option before and after that it desapeared... When entering on download mode, it shows OEM Lock: ON (L), i dont know if that means OEM is unlocked or locked...
2- I cant find the files in step 2: .extract the boot.img.lz4 from the AP file.
Just came here to find a root method for the SM-A105M. Seems like not a lot of love for the A10 here.. Lol Anyways, I will be testing this method I came across out tonight. I will post the link but can't confirm it's working. I'll post my results tomorrow.

Hi everybody,
I managed to root my A105FN with this method but with using the Magisk Manager v7.3.1 (no need of Magisk Canary)
It will be good to have a TWRP as welll but couldnt find a compatible one for the A10 (maybe useful for no-verity-opt-encrypt-6.0 and RMM-State_Bypass_Mesa_v2 patch)
we need :
1. odin 13.3.1
2. official firmware for your device (to get the boot.img from AP_xxxx part => follow the other tutorial how to get boot.img and boot.tar magisk patched)(keep an original boot.tar, just in case stuck at boot)
3. 7zip ZS
4. Last Magisk Manager (for me was v7.3.1)
5. computer + usb cable
Warning : this root will give you big warning messages at every boot !
First you need to unlock your bootloader :
1/Under android, activate internet and go under "Developper Mode" (Setting>About>Software>Build Number and Tap on the build number repeatedly). OEM unlock option should be there.
If not wait and retry to see if there ... (needs internet, dont know why)
2/Then go under Recovery Mode (VolUp + Power at phone boot). No method to go "Download Mode" directly for my device.
3/Under Recovery, we need to unlock the bootloader as well. I cant remember what exactly I pressed but try to press VolUp or VolUP+VolDown just after you click to reboot under bootloader... It should show you a page where you can choose to unlock bootloader by long pressing VolUP. if you dont have it, retry again ... without that no Flash possible.
Warning : this unlock will give you a big warning at every boot !
4/if you managed to unlock the bootloader, it s almost finished... know under Download Mode with bootloader unlock, flash with Odin the magisk patched boot.tar. Do not forget to untick "reboot" under Odin.
(reminder:follow the other tutorial to get the file and remember to use the Magisk Manager v7.3.1 and not the canary.)
5/when flash done, reboot by pressing VolDown+Power then immediately on reboot VolUp to go under Recovery Mode.
6/Under Recovery, erase data/factory reset and reboot to system
(7/I dont know if it s necessary the VolUp at reboot till the vibration)
8/wait the booting ... if you are stuck on the warning page for a long time, retry to reflash the original boot.tar and restart from "1/"
9/if you managed to boot under android, good news you are rooted but it s not finished yet....
Under Android check you have "OEM unlock option" under Developper Mode (cf. 1/) otherwise at the reboot the system will go KO.
So when you have "OEM unlock" enabled you can install Magisk Manager. It will ask you to install something and it will reboot automatically. That s why check you have "OEM unlock" enabled before doing that !
10/After reboot, Done. ROOTED.. enjoy ! you can reboot as you want ...

Hi,
It is not a TWRP file, it is the boot.img file from the original firmware for A10, patched with Magisk to access the root function, unfortunately it does not work, have tested it.

Hi, Please i really need help unlocking my device (Gionee S10 lite) Bootloader.

Well it's really hard to say what's wrong in this case because I've never encountered such a problem.
Your USB and Fastboot drivers are fine since your PC detects your phone, so I really don't know what's wrong in this case.
Maybe try to turn the phone back on, disable then re-enable OEM unlocking, and retry to unlock the phone.
In case the files are faulty (which might be the case), here's a guide with (apparently) working files. This outside of XDA though : https://romprovider.com/gionee-s10-lite-root/
Hope that help

Thanks for the screenshots, I took a look at them.
So first of all make a little test:
- enable OEM Unlock
- reboot to fastboot mode
- when you're in fastboot, reboot to system and check if the OEM Unlock option in dev settings is still enable.
If it is it's very confusing, if it's not you might wanna look on the web why your device does that.
Also try to don't touch your phone while rebooting to fastboot, by that I mean once you enable OEM Unlock on dev setting:
- plug your phone to your computer
- see if OEM unlocking is still enabled, maybe connecting to a PC makes it disappear (if it disappeared re-enable it)
- now check if adb and fastboot recognize your device (command: adb devices, fastboot devices)
- If they are recognized enter the command "adb reboot bootloader"
- Now check if fastboot recognizes your device
- if it does enter "fastboot oem unlock"
- see if it works
If despite all of this you can't solve this issue, I would be able to help you any further, hope this works!
PS: you seem pretty new to xda so please take time to read the rules, and press the thank button each time someone helps you (or give you any guidance). Have a good one

Maybe try to uninstall and reinstall USB drivers and change the USB cable. It's very unlikely they're the problem, but maybe, we never know.

try to update and see if it there
important point. after confirming the desire to unlock and clear data, the bootloader really(!) unlocks only after the initial settings and when you see the gray immutable "OEM unlock" switch in the developer menu.
If you didn't see this item the first time, you need to enable the Internet and update the security policies, and at the same time disable them immediately.
This is the only reason for the appearance of the red inscription "only official ..." and this is the way to switching "rmm state" from prenormal to cheking.

I think you are booting your phone into bootloader mode.
You do not have to boot your phone into bootloader mode, instead you have to boot in Odin mode. For that, switch off your SAMSUNG phone. Afterwards, press both volume buttons and insert the data cable into your phone simultaneously. (Note: your device should be of samsung otherwise the Odin application will not recognize your device. Your data cable should be connected to pc to enter Odin mode). Then a blue coloured screen will appear. You have click the volume up button once and you will enter Odin mode.
Thanks!

Hi,
I just went through the unlocking process and wanted to share a few things I noticed. It won't be a "unlocking guide", but more kind of a "collection of tips and tricks". Hope this can help someone in sorting things out. Happy unlocking to everyone!

I am writing these things here with my best knowledge, but I cannot guarantee they are 100% correct. So please take them at your own risk! Feel also free to respond in case I (probably) got something wrong.
"EU/global version" of Mi Pad 4
As someone stated in another thread, and as I understood it, there is no such "global" or "EU" version of this tablet, but there is a "global/EU" ROM you can flash on it. And it seems that in europe there has been some market on these tablets that came with the global ROM preinstalled. As far as I know, the only way to flash the global/EU ROM is to unlock the bootloader, so these sellers had to go through the same process of unlocking. Now the problem is: to unlock the bootloader you require to link the tablet with a Xiaomi account, and you need the same account to unlock it again. So I guess that for these tablets one needs to be careful when buying them with the global ROM preinstalled, as you may need the phone number associated with the Xiaomi account that was set by the seller back then to unlock it again! Fortunately the one I bought came with the official chinese ROM and with no Xiaomi account linked to it, so I could manage to unlock it.
SIM card being necessary to unlock bootloader
I read that in some guides it is stated that you need to have a SIM card to unlock the bootloader installed in the tablet, and some users are asking how to do this on wifi only tablets. From what I've seen, there is no such prerequisite for wifi-only devices (which is kind of obvious, but peaople still ask). You still have to give a phone number to confirm your Xiaomi account as there is the need to enter some security code sent via SMS at some point. But the SIM card holding that number can obviously be on any phone!
About Xiaomi Fastboot drivers for Windows
I had several issues on making the Xiaomi Fastboot drivers working on my Windows PC: On my laptop running Windows 11, I had the issue that whenever the Xiaomi Unlock Tool was trying to connect, the Fastboot mode on the tablet just stopped with the message "press any key to shutdown". This seems to be a driver issue on some USB3 ports. Someone claimed there is a solution (see this post), but I used a Windows 10 laptop instead (also with only USB3 ports) and it worked OK there. Also, sometimes I connect the tablet via USB in Fasboot mode and I get no response on Windows (as nothing is attached). I solved it by uninstalling the device and re-installing the drivers manually that are provided in the Xiaomi Unlock Tool "driver" folder.
To check whether the drivers are working, just connect the tablet via USB while in Fastboot mode and check the Windows device manager. If device "Android Bootloader Interface" is properly installed (I got Xiaomi Drivers v16.0.0.0), you should be all set. If you get "Android device" or something with a question mark on it, I suggest to install manually the drivers (right click on the device, select "update drivers", then "Browse on my computer", and point to the "driver\win10" or "driver\xp-win7-win8" folder of the Xiaomi Unlock Tool).
If you have fastboot in your Windows PATH, read here, otherwise just ignore this
It seems that the Xiaomi Unlock Tool has a "fasboot.exe" in its own folder, which it has to use to unlock the bootloader. In my case, I already had adb and fastboot in my Windows PATH (so that I could just type "adb" in any CMD), and I think that the tool was using my fastboot version instead of its own one. The issue I had is that for some reason, the unlock process was hanging on 99%, and the tablet was then exiting fastboot and booting back to system. I checked the log and it seems to me that some fastboot commands were failing. As soon as I removed fastboot from Windows path, it magically worked. So my advice here is to simply remove whatever fastboot you have in the Windows path before using the unlock tool.
Unlocking steps I did
Finally, here's what I did to unlock it. Again, disclaimer: I don't know if these steps are 100% correct, but they worked in my case. So follow them at your own risk!
I did it on a Mi Pad 4 Wifi with the stock chinese ROM (running MIUI 10.3.2 & Android 8.1.0).
Go to Settings -> Mi Account and login to your Xiaomi account on the tablet, or if you don't have any, make one. Make sure the phone number you entered is reachable.
Go to Settings -> Additional settings -> Developer options and make sure "OEM Unlocking" and "USB Debugging" are turned on.
Still on the Developer options, go to "Mi Unlock Status". If it says "Unlocked", well guess what., you can stop here . If not, tap on "Add account and device" and wait for the success message. If you get something like "try later" (my case), what I did is to logout and re-login on the Xiaomi account. I then got the "success" message finally.
Download the Xiaomi Unlock Tool from here. Extract somewhere but do not start yet.
Open Windows Device Manager (Win+R, enter "devmgmt.msc").
Turn off the tablet and boot to Fastboot (Vol. Down + Power buttons). Now connect the tablet via USB.
First check on the tablet: if it shows "press any key to shutdown", then you have a driver issue. Please see this post for the solution, or try using a different PC.
Then, check on the device manager. If you see just "Android" with a question mark popping up, then you need to install the drivers. If you see "Android Bootloader Interface", then you are all set. If you don't see anything, then you need to uninstall and reinstall the drivers instead.
To install the drivers: right click on the device with question mark, select "update drivers", then "Browse on my computer", and point to the "driver\win10" or "driver\xp-win7-win8" folder where you extracted the Xiaomi Unlock Tool. After installing the drivers, try to boot to fastboot a second time. If you don't see the previously mentioned "press any key to shutdown", then you are all set.
To uninstall the device: On Windows Device Manager menu, go to "View" -> "Show hidden devices". You should find a greyed out "Android Bootloader Interface". Right click on it and select "Uninstall". Then, repeat the process again (boot to fastboot etc) and hopefully you will get the "Android device" with question mark where you can install drivers on.
Before starting the unlock tool, make sure you don't have any adb or fastboot in your windows PATH. You can check it by simply typing "fastboot --version" on any Windows CMD and see if it does something. In case you have, you better remove it, as the unlock tool has its own version of fastboot packed with it and you better let it use that one instead.
Once drivers are installed, start the Unlock Tool and login to your Xiaomi account. Then, once you see "not connected to the phone", boot the device to Fasboot again and quickly connect it via USB. If you see "Please wait 168 hours" or something like that (I did not see any of that), then most of the guides say that unfortunately you have to wait.
If you see the "Unlock button" not being grayed out anymore, then go for it. Get rid of the annoying popups saying "you are a bad person if you unlock", and finger crossed everything goes smooth!
Cheers,
Michele
Hi thank you for sharing this,
My Mipad 4 is LTE version, however the SIM only works when I turn on Wifi. Therefor, I can't start unlocking as I couldn't connect via Mobile Data.
Is there any solution for this?
