I'm not sure if this is the right topic for it.
But I was wondering if I could change the firmware on a cheap (YC-83p) tab.
Got it as a welcome gift from a course I got started. So don't have anny reasons to compain at all.
It doesn't has the greatest specs but it handles some basic stuff pretty well. So it's actually decent for bringing along on vacation or use it as a Home Assisstant controll tab.
It's actually this tab with slightly improved specs. (2GB of RAM instead of 1GB etc.):
Portable 8 inch Android 10 WiFi Tablet - YC-83T | Portworld Manufacturer
2021 New Arrival Portable 8 inch Quad-Core Processor Vertical Display 800*1280 IPS Screen Gms Android 10 1G+16G Android WiFi Tablet
portworld-solu.com
It's actually just fine as it is. But it seems it has some custom firmware onit, at least showing a custom bootscreen of the instution of the course. And I would like to change it if possible.
I searched the internet, but there's actually not much to be found.
So my question is if someone knows how to reflash this kind of devices, or at least change the bootscreen? I would prefer the first option if possible.
Thanks in advance!
edit:
It's running Android (Go edition) 11 btw.

Thanks, but I actually don't think it's rooted. Didn't cheked it yet though.
Actually looked for a way to root it, then it would be easier to put custom firmware on it I guess. But there's just verry little to completely nothing to be found of this tablet.
But I asume there must be a way sinse this institution was also able to customize some things.
Some questions:
How locked down is the tablet? Can you access gms services? Can you freely install apks? Are there developer options in settings and does it have the OEM unlock toggle?
Try to install adia64 and 7-zip. What is the processor? If it is mtk, you might be able to temp root your device.
Reviving this as I got this tablet as well and looking for possibilities.
I have posted here about my progress https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/can-we-root-this-tablet.4560407/page-2#post-88355463
Tablet is pretty generic but I don't seem to find any resource about it. Any ideas?

Hi guys,
I'm an experienced Android developer which also have started playing with Android ROM customization. However, I've limited experience regarding manufacturers and HW providers, so I hope you can point me in the right direction. I plan developing a very simple custom Android ROM to be installed in single-purpose devices owned by my company. The ROM will only be installed in those devices, and will not be offered to the public. We don't have any particular requirement for the device other than having a decent camera and at least 2GB of RAM.
With all that in mind, our top priority is finding a manufacturer which is open to ROM customization and provides official and stable drivers, kernel images and DTs, so we can work on the development of the ROM with best guarantees. Ideally, devices would be the cheaper the better (<150$). Any suggestion on where to start searching?

Thanks for the suggestion alecxs, Fairphone is indeed a good option. However, it is out of our budget. Ideally, the model we are looking for should be below 150$

Hi, I am new to modding Android and want to start learning. Is there something like a dummy or beginner guide for rooting and ROM hacking? What tools and apps do I need for this and what are the dangers and precautions I need to consider? I would like to understand the basics of this niche before I do anything.
I want to root my LG G7 ThinQ (T-Mobile) and eventually flash a custom ROM but I don't want to do this as this phone is my daily driver. That's why I'm using a BLU M8L tablet as a way to get my start in this hobby. It was a free device that was given to me.
Is there an guide for rooting the M8L or LG G7 ThinQ (for future reference when I am more comfortable)? Also, what custom ROMs available for the BLU M8L and the LG G7 ThinQ?

Just to be sure that I correctly undersatnd your intentions. If you mean by "repost" to create another thread, negative don't do that as this would violate rule no. 5 of the XDA Forum Rules. However, also in accordance with this rule you're allowed to bump your existing thread/post/question once every 24 hours i.e. it's fine if you just post the word "bump" or again your question in this thread.
If you meant that you might be unhappy with the current location of your thread, again please don't create another duplicate at a different location. https://www.bluproducts.com/devices/m8l/ here is the product site for the tablet. i am unable to find the specific model and idk whether or not its a 2022 model or an older model. this tablet seems to be a bit obscure as there is no device forum for the M8L. doing an imei lookup brings up a different device https://www.imei.info/?imei=359375815662302

For anyone and everyone who has had any trouble locating the firmware files (.pac) for the 2022 BLU M8L tablet, I FINALLY, after more than a month of searching found them on needrom.
Link is: https://www.needrom.com/download/blu-m8l-2022-m0220w/
Since idk if the link will be redacted or edited out, you can also google needrom and M0220WW

Hi all
I am newish to the Android world but have been a programer in the embeded C world and before I start trying to resolve my issue I would like to know if I am just barking up the wrong tree.
I have been trying to replace a very old HP Ipaq 5700 that I use only for GPS purposes with something more modern and a larger screen for some time but although I got close it was not good enough as a replacement, the program I use is Memory map and their version for the Android platform was awful. I purchased a Ruggex Rhino two device that runs Lolipop 5.1 and got to the point where it would run the Memory map software and display the GPS data being sent from my Ublox GNSS receiver via bluetooth and it gave current location, but it was not good enough to use in the field. Memory map have now updated their program so it runs on Android, Windows and Linux and it is a much better user interface but requires Android 6 or later.
So having read about custom ROM's and getting Android updated is it possible to do this to any Android device such as my device bearing in mind it will only be used to receive a Bluetooth signal and run basic apps, no intention of fitting a sim as I need really good battery life.
If this is possible could someone please point me in the right direction, the device already has it's boatloader unlocked.
Thanks Roy

Hello All,
I'm a complete noob but am interesting in taking a (cheap) android phone and replacing the UI with a custom 'ROM'.
Can anyone suggest which brand and/or model of phone is good for one's first attempt?
Alternatively, is there a reputable company I can pay to have this done? (I'm in the West Midlands, UK.)
Many thanks

A decade or so ago, was a frequent visitor to XDA Forums to custom mod my HTC phones.
Fast forward to late last year, long story short, picked up a fake Samsung s22 ultra which was a cheap Chinese knockoff with whatever generic android version it has installed
It reports its using Android 12 and that's about it.
In its current state, the performance is very very slow, and can take a couple of seconds to navigate between screens, launch apps etc.
Is there any generic custom roms I could throw at this thing?
EDIT - here's some relevant screenshots
