Hi folks. I have recently a strange problem with my phone. If I turn it from portrait to landscape is the picture upside down. A restart shows the problem only temporary. After a while I have again a "head-down" image. No metter if Browser, YouTube or Gallery, the same thing happens.
I'm sure it's a software problem. Maybe an app causes the malfunction although I don't have new apps. The only thing I did was the update of Android 13. Could that be the problem? Any advice to solve it?

Upgrades are trouble*... Rule #1 if a OS is fast, stable and fulfilling its mission, let it be!
Try in safe mode. Then if it is a 3rd party app take out the trash. If it permanently changed a hidden setting in the user data partition a factory reset may be needed, a global Settings reset may get it.
If the above doesn't correct it you got problems.
Whenever flashing a OTA upgrade you risk introducing corruption. If the firmware does cause a conflict with the hardware (because of substituted smaller chipset not being addressed for instance) you risk a bricked device.
Every time you change the firmware you alter the playing field, create new problems and a new learning curve for yourself. Is it malware or the new firmware (and needed software updates because of the new firmware)? Hard to tell. When you don't make radical changes odd behavior is easy to recognize and act on in a timely manner.
*this N10+ in my hand is still running on Pie, last firmware update 3 years ago. The current load is 2.5 yo and it runs like a bat out of hell with minimal maintenance. Security is not an issue.
Thanks for your reply. The problem is not permanent. After restart works everything as it should. After a while (hours) it happens. I didn't try to stay so long in safe mode, but maybe it worth it. If the problem happens in safe mode than it's not a 3rd party app?

Yeap, that's why you want to run it in safe mode.
See if one the apps has a memory leak. Never saw one on an Android before but saw it on PC and an iPad, all caused by buggy 3rd party apps.
Try clearing the system cache too. This sometimes cures bizarre problems.

suddenly my samsung galaxy s3 keeps freezing and I have to make a hard reset every time. I tried to make factory reset, or wipe factory reset, but the same problem.
what should I do?
are you on SDS-safe firmware?
Dude, instead of creating yet another post with this, you could have searched to quite easily find out your phone is halfway dead and should be sent back to samsung for repair as soon as possible. Make it safe to return if you messed with it (flash original stuff, reset counter, etc, read a bit if you don't know what to do, it's all over these forums) and just take it in.
Don't take this the wrong way but you'd think it's common sense to just return any product (not even phone related) that it's malfunctioning instead of asking what to do to random people in a third party forum

use the sds safe précautions to prevent freezing
Envoyé depuis mon GT-I9300 avec Tapatalk
And what are the sds safe precautions or where can I find it?
just search in the general section
Device:GT-I9300 32gb
I have the same problem, this seems to be firmware related to me, the phone works in safe mode but this is really crappy now. I don't think there should be a return unless it's the only fix. Will try and flash JB and update the post.
Edit: Is that sds the Sudden death thing. I tried searching but no results come up. I am a new comer to Samsung as their devices sucked for ages and they still seem to do. Please can some one advise us(the op and myself and future people with this problem) on what is the main cause of this issue that a hard reset fixes it. But for my device,it doesn't die it stops functioning.
This is how I get this problem, my phone is rooted, but it runs fine only when there is a app crash the phone locks up and thats it.
what i tried: I tried to back up my data so i could save myself from reinstalling all my app. I hard reseted the phone and the phone functioned again
but after restoring my data the phone locks up again. Now my phone works about 5sec from normal boot but then locks up. It works fine in safe mode. So really where is issue? Is an app is making the whole OS to jam there has to be a simple fix for this.
Please don't say return the device, thats the dumbest thing to ever say. We want to over come the problem not ignore it/get rid of it.
Thanks for your time guys
Try this.

My S3 started well and then "SUDDEN DEAD" :crying:
Well. I reverted back to 4.1.1 and no more random reboots or freezes. It was definitely ROM issue.
Any one tried new EMA2 rom? If yes, still freezing?

Mine was freezing constantly with MA1 and MA2 until I did what I posted above.
Now already 2 days without freezes.

Same problems here. Not sure about rooting. If I change the csc code and download the latest, say German update. would that change the rom and fix it ?

Probably not. Depends on what causes your problem.

I was getting similar behaviour too. Phone would freeze after making calls, sending msgs, using facebook, searching on google, basically random points anywhere. Went through uninstalling apps, did a factory reset, and through some trial and error finally pinned down where my problem was at least. It was caused by the latest version of MixZing. Was crashing before frequently, and after uninstalling it I've been using my phone fine all day with no crashes at all. Still potentially early days, but if I don't report back then that solved it for me.
A simple solution
ok guys.. this is something i tried and has been working for me for more than two days now:
the problem seems to be in the download manager included in the new android software so what you simply have to do is to disable this application whenever you're not using it.. you can do so in the settings>> applications manager>> view ALL>> select DOWNLOAD MANAGER and DISABLE..
of course this will stop the play store from functionning and will stop any automatic updates but will prevent the phone sudden death...
All you have to do when you want to download any new apps or update existing ones is to enable the download manager and i suggest before doing that to clear the RAM memory and try to be gentle and patient with the phone...
Just keep working like that till ANDROID finds a solution in the next update and your phone will be fine.. in the end its better than killing the machine with every freeze.
Remember to be patient and work slowly when the download manager is enabled
Reply if it worked for you

My first post here. Thanks for this tip. My phone was freezing every 3 minutes and so I did what you suggested after all other suggestions (except rooting - as I was worried I might brick the phone if it froze while rooting) didn't work. Anyway, just a few seconds after I hit "DISABLE", my phone froze! So I thought it's probably not working, but since the reboot, it hasn't crashed. Thanks!:good:

the same thing is happening to me and i have no clue why its happening it just like 3-4days ago but i have installed only clash of clans and clash royale in my phone. he most interesting thing is that all your phone feature will work but the screen will not for almost 20-30mins then it will recover on its own. all the call features are working well but no response from phone. my conclusion is this phone is totally a mess and i dont even know how i managed t use this device for 4years! it got super laggy after 6-7 months of use. Whatever i went to the service centre and they told that i need to change the motherboard of my s3 costing 130$.
I know there has been a few threads about this but I kind of know the reason to my problem but I'd like it resolved.
It's caused by an application from the GO Launcher EX people, Go Battery & Power Widget.
So, I know this is APP specific but I'm figuring that it's also phone specific as I don't see anyone else having this problem in specific with it in the past few months or updates. Last was march.
It worked just fine up until yesterday when it started freezing the phone with the screen on and the plastic LED thing underneath the menu buttons on my Xperia U, if it doesn't freeze it randomly reboots whenever it feels like it and I'm quite positive this will in the long run harm my battery, I might just be paranoid but I think that it has affected or overloaded a few of the LEDs inside of the screen I can now find 3 dead pixels, I know that ain't much but it's kind of annoying as you may guess.
So, anyone know what I could do to solve this issue without removing the program or if it's a compatibility issue with something else, any help at all would be swell - I would remove it if it were not for the fact that when it did work that it saved my battery quite dramatically.
Thanks in advance and thanks for reading my wall of text.

I just recently re-flashed my phone due to an annoying "update available" issue that wasn't removable, forcing me to create a backup, which I just now restored into the phone (It doesn't appear to be there now but the issue persist so now I'm confused as to what might be causing it)
Once again, I'd really like this resolved rather than factory reseting the phone and then start to re-fill it again.
Not quite counting the freezes and reboots, but it's well over 50 just today.
Hmm as u said that the problem existed even without go launcher so try logging when the screen freezes... We might see the problem there... Anyways I know you said you don't want to factory reset and stuff... But 50 above is harmful so I think flashing stock is a good idea
Cheers,
AJ
Have you tried removing the app itself to see that it stops freezes?
If so, then it is clear the app causes the problems. Then you should contact the developers of it, they shall have an email on google play.
If not, then I suggest you to go for a logcat and try to figure out what is the cause Sounds really weird and a stock reflash (without restore) seems to be the solution for me

I decided to re-flash it, went well and it's feeling healthier.
The problem was Xprivacy.

I had some freezing issues even without it, but I mucked about and re-flashed and now it feels better, but I'm still sure it was Xprivacy. Don't know why though.
I noticed a problem the last days with auto-brightness. It goes up to bright mode fast, maybe within a second if i put it under a lamp, but if i take it to an entirely dark place it remains to bright for even more than a minute or forever, until i hit the lock button and unlock it again. After unlocking it's always in the right brightness. I am not sure if that had begin after i tested an app called battery test utility which had some strange behaviour and i unistalled it instantly. It happens the most times right now and i am in android 4.3 official ota mk release which i must say made my phone faster and better in any ways. Do you think i need to do a factory reset? From my known i have no app installed that interfere with brightness settings.
Hi, same problem here, using I9300XXUGML2 clean install.

At least i am not the only one here! Have you tried the Yet Another Auto Brightness (YAAB) from play store? I tried it and it works really good and i am sure now it's a software problem not the hardware. But i want the build in function and not having a third party app installed... Have you done a factory reset after upgrading?
As you mention I don't like other applications running for a function that must work in the original ROM, not a big issue but a problem there. Also did a factory reset a couple of times and the problem persist.
Lets hope it will get fixed in a coming update.

Love this phone more than anything, but after fiddling around with it on the first day the camera app is no longer working. It worked initially for a few minutes then it would freeze up and crash all together. And no I do not have the Last Pass app that people say is causing the crash. I did a factory reset and its still not working. I assumed it was a software issue, but even after rooting and flashing a custom rom it's still not working. Probably going to contact HTC tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone else was having issues with the camera?
It's LastPass
I had the same problem.. If you have last pass installed. Launch it... go to preferences and disable auto fill apps
I'm having the same problem, and I do not have Lastpass. So please don't be useless and say it is that app. I do not have other apps installed to manage passwords, but whatever Android software is native to ATT does a good job at remembering passwords...
Somewhere else on the interweb someone said Line could be a culprit. Anyone???

Have you tried factory reset and/or Safe Mode? Those would eliminate the possibility that a 3rd party app is the culprit.
If those still don't solve the issue, I would recommend running the RUU. RUU will return all software to the stock image. So if the problem persists after RUU, I would tend to believe its a hardware issue.
I'm assuming you are running a stock device, but you haven't given that info. The problem with jumping onto an existing thread and saying "I have the same issue" is that the OP may/or may not have the exact same conditions as you (which is almost always not the case). And if you don't tell us the specifics, it makes it hard for us to help. For instance, the OP stated he tried factory reset, plus root and a custom ROMs (with no success) and we don't know if you did the same or not.
I had the notification for this update for a few weeks before I installed it, thinking that bugs will be flushed out by then, how wrong was I!
After installing it, the phone no longer feels as snappy, but the major problem is the camera. It takes so long to take and save a picture! I had seen that someone else having the same problem online saying it is due to saving to SD card. However, it was never a problem before this update! So what had changed? This is a problem with the stock camera app and open camera. I can keep hitting the shutter button and nothing happens. If I force close the app, the picture will not be saved, indicating that it is taking a very long time saving.
Also, everything else seems to be slower. I use F-Stop with MX Player for my videos and they open noticeably slower and drops frame. Chrome is also showing signs of slowness, with Amazon page taking longer to respond to slides after loading.
No, I did not factory reset my phone after updating as I see that as the nuclear option and want to avoid that. Is factory resetting the only way to get it working smoothly again?
mine is running without any problems, or bugs, lags... try to do factory reset
Mine is also working perfectly well, and the camera works like a charm, no delays at all.... perhaps it's because I do not have an SD card inserted, so no doubt of where to store the image....
dude make sure you do factory reset after OTA update... that's like the basic common sense since few year back.

Most OTA updates are designed to update your device while keeping your data intact and avoiding the need to reinstall and re-setup all your apps. A factory reset is normally done only if (a) the update specifically requires it, usually when there is a huge change in the ROM or (b) some problems occur after update because of the user's particular setup.
The PDTMIXM OTA works fine for me - as least I haven't found any problems or sluggishness so far. I haven't factory reset after the update. Like others, I don't have a micro SD card in my phone as I have two SIMs in it. Perhaps this is why I don't see the sluggishness encountered by some.

Strange! The update 10.3.1 available notification started to appear on my phone two days ago, but when I go into settings it now says no update available and the original notification has disappeared. Have they withdrawn this update so quickly or is it just my phone?

I'm not sure if you're referring to my post I made about the video lag when media is saved on the SD card.. But i just got the 10.3.1 update today and the problem is now solved.
