Question How to connect to ADB on the Chevy Bolt? - Android Automotive OS

Hi, I'm trying to connect a Chevy Bolt to ADB. I've got the developer options enabled, but I get no connection when I try to connect to the USB-C port. There's probably an internal port somewhere, any idea how to access it? Thanks

I don't have a Chevy Bolt, but I have used ADB on Android phones before. Have you enabled USB debugging?

Obviously

If it's possible, you could connect the car to your home WiFi, and use wireless debugging.
Again, I don't have a Chevy bolt, and I don't have a car that has Android Automotive OS.

Ah, thanks, but please try to answer the question asked, not some other question. This car does not have the wireless debugging option.

Alrighty then, [A]! I see you want to connect your Chevy Bolt to ADB like a pro. Fret not, my friend, for I have a step-by-step guide just for you! We'll set up ADB using the Android Settings Shortcuts app, then switch to Wi-Fi debugging for your convenience. Let's rock 'n' roll!
Download and install the app, buddy! Android Settings Shortcuts (You know you want to!) Source: Software Development - Android Settings Shortcuts | XDA Forums
Open the Android Settings Shortcuts app (Red icon). (It's like opening a door to a whole new world!)
Tap on "OPEN ENGINEERING SETTINGS" (Button). (Time to unleash the engineer in you!)
Navigate to the "DEBUG&LOG" (Tab). (This is where the magic happens!)
Tap on "Adb shell" (First item). (A wild "Adb shell" appears!)
Enter "setprop persist.service.adb.tcp.port 5555" in the field instead of the gray "getprop" entry. (Now we're cooking with gas!)
Tap on "START" (Button). (Get ready for liftoff!)
Enter "reboot" in the other field instead of the gray "getprop" entry. (And we're off to the races!)
Tap on "START" (Button). (Double the fun!)
Voilà! You've successfully completed the steps, and now you're ready to connect to ADB using Wi-Fi.

Any question? I've done it again so if you have questions about this connection feel free to ask.

All new members and bots please refrain from answering. Anyone else, please read the question carefully and only answer if you are familiar with this specific model. The car has no Play Store or browser and there is no way to download or install apps.

I was wondering the same about the Volvo xc40 ?any ideas

[Q] Adb.exe - how to connect?

Hi everyone.
I need help with adb.
The problem is, that i don't know how to make "auto connect" with device.
I need connect with cell phone without touch on the screen.
Is ny way to this?
Or, if it is impossible. How to force pop up with connection type menu on the phone screen. I known, that this pop windowe is showing after plug cable, but after five second is hide. How to maintain this pop menu while user choose type connection?
Rest regards.

Trivial widget to toggle USB between Charge-only and MTP ?

On the CM13 snapshot which I'm presently running on a OnePlus One, every time I connect a USB cable between the device and a PC, even though in Settings -> Developer options -> Select USB Cofiguration it is selected as "MTP", and the device does appear in Windows File Explorer, in fact Windows cannot see anything on the device. Each time, I have to go to Settings -> scroll to end, Developer options -> scroll to middle somewhere, Select USB Configuration, switch to Charge Only then switch again to MTP. Then everything works fine.
So I'd like to find a trivial Widget which just toggles between Charge only and MTP, to make this a less menu, search, search operation every time.
I do see a small number of Root-only (yes, I'm rooted; No, I don't want to have to install a root-capable app if not absolutely necessary) apps which, among too many other things, maybe can do this. Since all I really want is a direct access Widget to a particular setting, I hope there's a much simpler way?
thanks, and apologies if I've missed this; I searched for USB, MTP, toggle, widget and only came up with the much bigger possible solutions.

Urgent: need backup of A80 with broken/black screen for upcoming court case.

Thread Closed Per OP Request
I'm helping a friend who needs backup of her broken phone for an upcoming court case.
I need to extract all photos (camera, snapchat etc) and text messages (sms/mms).
The phone seems to be working other than the screen and touch controls.
Replacing/repairing the screen isn't an option as we both have minimal funds, and my friend has a new phone already)
i have "access" to the phone, but neither USB Debughing nor MTP is enabled so i cannot access any files.
I'm able to unlock it with a keyboard connected (i hear the little unlock click after entering the pin, and the "turn off screen" click when i press the power button.) But i have to navigate blindly, and any guide i find seems arbitrary how to get to settings, it says to press win+n (same as pulling down the quick settings menu from home) and press tab an arbitrary number of times to get to the settings gear in the corner. i tried doing this on my own working note 10 plus with the external keyboard, but i see it scrolls through every notification, so unless you know the number of notifications, hitting the gear is just pure luck.
I have also tried hooking up a usb-c to hdmi dongle (which works and starts dex on my n10+) but it says no signal on the A80, so external monitor seems out of the question.
Is there a consistent way to enter settings, or any way to enable the following settings:
* enable voice assistant (accessibility settings so i can hear where i am and navigate using voice/sound)
* enable USB MTP (or similar so i atleast can access files from a computer)
* enable USB debugging (to use ADB to screenmirror and/or etc)
* alternatively clear notifications so entering settings should become consistant with number of keypresses
I have tried some apps like dr fone but it doesnt support backup from this model, and any other settings wants to wipe the phone.
I have tried holding both volume buttons to enable google voice assist, but also unsure if this ever worked
The phone is not on wifi and i am not 100% sure if wifi is enabled at the moment, nor if it has the current wifi password my friend uses, but i can try do do things from there if internet access will help.
I dont think google now nor bixby (if this phone has that) is enabled as i dont get any reply or voice ding while pressing the win key (home button normally on working android)
I think i can enter recovery and download modes, i got COM5 on odin, but I'm unsure if i ever get into recovery menu.. but even then, is there any custom recovery firmware that will enable usb mtp access at all for this device?
Also, I'm not able to have a computer connected at the same time as a keyboard as I'm using a wired keyboard with OTG adapter.
Tl;dr:
Have:
* A80 with broken unresponsive screen.
* Have access blindly through otg keyboard
Need:
* Need to enable mtp and/or usb debug (alt. Voice assist)
* Need consistent way to access settings
Both MUST be done using only wired otg keyboard.
Tried:
* Hdmi out (no signal)
* computer recovery software (no dice)
* having computer and keyboard connected simultaneously (keyboard works, pc doesnt recognize, could be dongle)
Hope someone can help me (us) fast.
Could anyone with an A80 and external keyboard please try this to enter settings from keyboard only:
0) [ESC] & ([WIN]+[Enter] to make sure to be on home
1) [WIN]+[Q] "quicklaunch buttons" pulldown menu appears
2) [TAB] (no change)
3) [Down arrow] (magnifying glass gets highlighted)
4) [Right arrow] X2 (gear is highlighted)
5) [Enter] should now be in settings
If this works, could you please count how many times you press down and enter to enter accessability settings and enable talkback, which should make navigating to usb settings etc much easier
Mods: please delete thi post.. its a A8 2018 mot A80, sorry about that

Nordictrack Commercial 2950 Android tablet

Just got this treadmill and it’s basically a 23” android tablet connected to the treadmill. Thanks to another thread here, I managed to get into “privilege mode” which allows you to access the android shell and settings. For others looking for this info, instructions to get into this mode are
1. In the ifit app go into settings
2. Tap on maintenance
3. In the blank space below the maintenance settings, tap rapidly, around 10-20 times
4. “Privileged mode” will show up as a message at the bottom of the screen
5. Swipe up from the bottom edge and you will see the android taskbar, tap on the circle and you will go to home, now you can access android settings
I do not know how to turn off this mode. However it seems to be ok, only difference is that the treadmill will boot to android home, then launch the ifit app, which may be disconcerting to some SO sharing the device.
Now on to the hard part, it’s running 7.1.2, so I assume after going into settings and turning on install from other sources, I could side load. Nope, browser crashes every time when I try to download something, eg apk file.
There is no user accessible USB port, any idea what I should do or side load stuff like Netflix? YouTube on the browser seems to work though.... any help here would be much appreciated!!

Wow. I have the 2017 version of the 2950 that has Android 5.1.1 along with an external USB A female port and a (useless) female HDMI out port that should allow hard wire video / audio to a nearby HDMI input capable device.
I, too have privleged mode active per a tech support call a while back. Anyway, let me say that a while ago I nearly bricked mine trying to sideload a few APK's, so be ready to assume the responsibility for anything that may happen. You should be able to get to the browser in the OS and go to Google.com and sign in... this will let you get to Drive and Gmail and grab any APK's you've parked there from a PC or whatever?
Hey, do you have WiFi for 2.4GHz only or maybe 5.8GHz as well? Just curious, not that it will help me at all... I have a USB-A to Ethernet dongle that refuses to work with the console's USB port . My 2.4 connectivity is garbage.
This is ironic. I opened the built in browser and was going to sign into google to grab an APK of Google Home... all of a sudden I see Privilege Mode Removed (or something like that) pop up and the iFit app stared up. Now the 2950 fires up quicker like it did when new. SO bizarre!

Note 8 Black Screen Data Recovery

Hi there XDA. Been a while and hope everyone's been fine. Need some expert help and hopefully some resolution can be found.
I have a Note 8 that was dropped. Belongs to a family member and was taken to me as the resident tech to get things off. I managed to get all FILES copied off the device, and they no longer need it however...being how I am, I'd like to try and recover EVERYTHING from the device. All notes and such - especially as some of these things were used for classes. However I'm stuck,
Screen is totally black and was responding to finger touches before - not doing so now. Unlocking the device isn't an issue as I can do that using the stylus or a USB keyboard through OTG. I'm able to navigate using the USB keyboard and get into certain settings, but without actually seeing what's going on I don't know what is stopping certain actions or why they don't work.
The current goal is to get talkback working so that it can read to me the various options. If I can get it on then I assume there will be smoother navigation - however....
I got my hands on a Note 9 and used two USB keyboards with OTG simultaneously to try and mirror the actions. Attempts to enable talkback failed. On the Note 9 the option comes up and you hear when it asks to be enabled, but on the damaged phone you never hear it. This is a tedious process which involves:
Attaching USB keyboard.
Using shortcut keys to get into the apps menu (ALT+A).
Navigating to SETTINGS.
Typing in the name of the area I need to get to.
Pressing the arrow keys the appropriate number of times.
etc. etc. etc.
Finally when it SHOULD be at the talkback option, nothing is read back to suggest it's enabled. Holding the VOL+/- keys for 3 seconds don't work. Inserting a SIM with data then using voice to "turn on talkback" results in a response: "I can't change talkback yet."
So now - I'm at a loss. Once I'm able to turn on USB debugging I should be able to connect to my PC/laptop and mirror the screen. From there all navigation should be easy - but following what is seen on the Note 9, it doesn't work. So I can't enable talkback and I can't enable USB debugging. I'm also not 100% sure where on the screen the prompt would appear - so unplugging and replugging then guestimate tapping have not been successful.
So far I can use it like an expensive USB drive, but I'd like to get all things off, test the functionality otherwise, and then factory reset before giving it away or selling it. Not ready to buy a screen as the cost is the same as buying a used device.
Well - that's everything. Hopefully someone can assist. I can post the exact steps after someone replies, but let me give a quick rundown below. If you have one you can try with a USB keyboard and see where it gets you.
Unlock device with PIN.
ALT+A
UP x2
Type SETTING
ENTER x3
UP x2
ENTER
Type TALKBACK
Enter x3
Down......can't recall. Think it was x2. To the voice option.
ENTER
DOWN
ENTER
DOWN
RIGHT
ENTER
The last bit should select the ALLOW option and ultimately enable talkback. But for some reason it doesn't. Nothing is heard. For the USB debugging it's the same thing except at step 8 it's "USB debugging" then down like 9 or 10 times to get to the option - then enter - then right and enter.
Nothing has worked so far to blindly enable either talkback or USB debugging. So any help is appreciated.
I'm hoping there's some file I can copy directly to the file system, or something I can manipulate on the file system to enable either of these features, but I won't hold my breath. No idea whether or not this will work, but hopeful all the same. Looking forward to replies and thanks in advance.
