Hey, everyone. Using your AMAZING n00b guide and overall lurking of this website for several months since January I've done quite a few awesome things with this phone. Currently I am running Cyanogen Mod 7.1.0-Ba2tF-Olympus (any further information how I got there can be provided if necessary). I'm having a slight issue though. I've noticed that sometimes I'll randomly have no data or cellular service what-so-ever. To gain access to data and cellular service at that point I will then have to restart the phone, wait for it to boot, turn on WiFi, wait for that to connect, use an application like Browser or Facebook to test connectivity, if data transmits then I'm good, then AND ONLY after I go through all that can I disable WiFi and connect through regular data and cellular channels. I was wondering if this has happened to any of you and if anyone had any idea on how to fix it?
If you need clarification I'd be more than happy to try and sort my explanation out for you.
Thank you all in advance and I hope to hear from you soon!
Hello,
Did your APN settings are good ?
You can found it there : Setting / networks / Mobile Networks / Access Point Name.
Where are you from, what is your carrier ?
Regards.
I am thinking you need to flash a new radio.
Hey guys,
I recently switched to fulltime android phone again after 1 years of absence.
However, the country where i live have 3 different networks with 3g.
I am suspecting that the one i am on, does not really have good 3g coverage, or is heavily used.
I get NO DATA or 2G connection a whole lot and im living in the "city".
I've been looking at Google Play for an application that ONLY monitors the connectivity.
I would like to know how much of the on time i am on NO DATA, 2G COVERAGE or 3G COVERAGE (wifi excluded or included).
The apps that exists from what i found only shows "MOBILE" or "WIFI" Usage.
Such apps showing amount of gigabyte downloaded on each won't help me much as if i am on 2G, i won't be able to download much..
If anyone knows of such an app (speedtest would be perfect if they could show this somehow and provide data on their netindex.com site).
Again, all i need to know is the amount of time i am on 2g data, 3g data, no data.
With that i will test my current sim for a week, get the other 2 sims for another 2 weeks, and based on the outcome of the statistics, chose which one to keep.
Let me know!

Hi I've looked and looked over this site and others and did not find a solution. I have had this phone STOCK NO MODS huawei 5x for about 1 year now (April)
kiw-l24
Kiw-l24c567b351
Emui-4.0
6.0.1
I have metro pcs as my carrier. I have had NO issues with Service or the phone till now. The phone was purchased new and unlocked.
My issue Is this. When going to TURN ON mobile hotspot under settings when I try to turn it on it gives me 2 pop up messages
1. Verifying Service authorization please wait
2. Then after the 1st message cycles it reads " There is a temporary network problem that is preventing the mobile hotspot function from being enabled. Please try again later"
I have never had issues with the hot spot and have not made changes to any settings that I am aware of.
I have called metro 4 times but had no luck with them. My plan includes hotspot and I'm not using any 3rd party app to use it. I've read that most phones will verify you have hot spot with your carrier and I assumed the issue may be with my plan. I have never changed it and called metro to verify I do have mobile hotspot. I think that's all the info I have at this time. Please let me know if there is more needed to try and resolve this. I appreciate your help.
Can some one at least tell me if this is a phone issue or a provider issue please?
Hi all
I've setup VPn tunnels to my office on my S9+. I've setup a PPTP from the built in client and IPsec and SSL from the Fortinet Client and none of them are working.
I'm sure that authentications are correct as I use same settings on my laptop running windows 10 and on a iPhone 7 plus.
Anyone with the same problem?
This might not help you exactly but there seems to be an issue with the stock ROM and VPNs. Adguard, which blocks ads via VPN, was also having the same issue and the devs have reported it to Samsung from what I understand. The fix will probably come during a later update since VPN issues are a bigndeal, especially for people who need to use their devices in a corporate environment.
My VPNs include one PPTP and one IPSec/PSK, and they both connect without issues on four different Verizon S9+ phones.

Hola
I just wanted to give you a heads up that Adguard dev's have figured out a temporary workaround to make the their VPN ad blocking features stick. You'll need to check their forums for the actual setting (or use their nightly release which has the setting enabled by default). I have this setting enabled and now I am able to browse ad free for the most part without issues.
I've just update the phone and it's now working yet. Besides that the problem is even worst because I can't even connect VPNs on my laptop if using the phone as hotspot.
I've reported to Samsung and I'm waiting for a call and a remote assistence but if I can get a fix in a few days the phone will be returned because this is a big issue for my work.

I used this functionality fairly frequently with my (Verizon) S8+.
I've just completed about an hour of testing with my (Verizon) S9+.
I tried the USB tether, the Bluetooth tether, and the Hotspot networking on the phone. In each case I established a network connection to the public Internet without issue.
The VPN connections from my Windows 10 system, however - using that S9+ connection - all fail now with one exception.
The PPTP, L2TP/PSK and IKEv2 connections (that all work[ed] with my S8+) will not connect using my S9+.
The one exception is the Microsoft-specific SSTP variant, which tunnels over port-443. That one will connect with the S9+ in all three networking scenarios - USB, bluetooth and Hotspot WiFi.
This seems to indicate that the new phone does not pass TCP port 1723 and/or GRE 47 (PPTP) and UDP ports 500 and/or 4500 (L2TP and IKEv2) through it's network tethering and the WiFi connections.
Bummer.
At least I can still use SSTP to get to my server resources - which is 90% of my VPN needs anyway - but the other connections are dead now.
Connections FROM the phone, using it's built-in PPTP and L2TP profiles to host networks, continue to work properly on the S9+ -- as they did on the S8+.

That is the Snapdragon version? Does it have a special ROM from Verizon or is the stock Samsung?
Maybe that is the difference

Stock Verizon (SD845 8.0) S9+ compared with a stock Verizon (SD835 7.0) S8+. I suppose the difference might be explained by going from Android 7 to Android 8, but I have no way of testing that hypothesis at this time.
(The last phone I modified was a 2013 Motorola RAZR. I've subsequently switched to using my phones as phones, rather than as a hobby. )
If someone has a different experience with employing a networked platform's VPN while using a similar phone in a tethered or hotspot configuration, it would interesting to know.
My own successes with the phone's built-in VPN (PPTP and L2TP) - as separate from the scenario described above -
apparently differ from those of others in this thread for reasons I cannot explain.
I'm in the same boat - a new S9 and can't connect to my work VPN when using the phone as a hotspot. It works fine on S8 and Iphones. Does anyone know how to fix this? This is a critical issue for me as I work remotely quite a bit.

I think there is no fix yet. I had someone from Samsung support connected to my S9 last Tuesday and they could not find anything so they escalated the problem inside Samsung but until now no further news.
S9+ work with IPSEC!
My Samsung S9+ work with IPSEC - tested on Andoid version 8.0.0..

What CPU does it have? Is it unlocked or from what network/provider is it?

CPU - Exynos 9810 - 2,7 GHz, its on Croatian network - T-Com ( T-mobile ) - locked.
New update in germany : G960FXXS1ARD1
Maybe a good patch ...
My S9 unlocked (SD) can connect to my L2TP/Ipsec VPN but disconnects within a minute or so (even if the connection is under constant use.) I have another Anrdoid 7 device (and a Windows 10 laptop) that has no problem with the same VPN/router/WiFi combination and can stay connected for hours. I don't know how to escalate this with Samsung in a way where they just don't blame my other hardware.

Is anyone facing issue of Random internet drop (both WiFi & LTE) and it doesn't connect until you restart the phone (works everytime) or toggle WiFi/Data (works sometimes)
This keeps happening to me for a long time now and happens across the ROMs as far as i remember. I'm on MiRoom 11.0.5 for now but had same issue on Stock as well as Custom ROMs in past. Persist on Stock kernel as well as custom kernel
Mostly happens on waking device after sometime so i guess radio devices are not waking properly that's why above work around works
In MIUI i already tried toggling battery scenario options (attached) to disabled but no help

If its happened with almost roms which you had tried, so i think its because of the hardware. I dont hope so. Try change ur vendor and firmwares.
I made similar observations with other manufacturer's phones. The following measures could solve those problems:
LTE:
Temporarily try to exclude LTE an change your preferred network mode from 2g/3g/4g to 2g/3g. Network speed should be fine for most tasks.
I have the impression that some network provider limit their lte/4g infrastructure to gain ressources for 5g preparations ...
Wifi:
Applies to 2.4GHz.
Does your router have an option to provide channels 12-13 and is it activated? If so, turn it off and see if there is a change in networking behavior ...
Those channels are not tolerated in some countries and could be insufficiently implemented in the router's or phone's software.
5GHz
If you live near a hospital or a military base try to deactivate the extended channels. They get temporarily automatically deactivated and prioritized for some public or infrastructural institutions ...
Good luck!
