Need help restoring a backup file to my phone. - Xiaomi Mi A3 Questions & Answers

I'm new to this forum so i don't know wether i'm posting this in the right sub but i need help with restoring my phone's data. I stupidly used wondershare's "dr fone" to backup all my data on the computer which created a 15.9 gb .bak file. Problem is i didn't know that in order to restore this to your phone you had to have a subscription, before i wiped my phone. Now i am left with the aforementioned .bak file and i would like to know if there are any free pc applications that can restore all my data to the phone using this file. Thanks in advance.

Have you had a look at this thread?

Hi, thanks for replying. I just took a look. I tried a few other apps from google play since appbak was no longer on there, unfortunately none of them were able to use the file (I copied the .bak file from my pc to my phone's internal storage). I then found an old version of appbak through chrome and installed it but it also couldn't use the .bak file to restore my data. Eventually I tried restoring it through my phone's settings like a couple of people recommended but the only backup setting I could find was "Backup by Google One" (because my phone runs on Android One, which is focused on Google Services) and I could not use a local file to start restoring. At this point I might just try to restore my data manually but any further help would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Question about Restoring with Titanium Backup

I have just recently downloaded Titanium Backup in order to save my apps because I want to try new ROMs that say to do full wipes including EXT wipes. I was just curious what the proper way to use the program to restore apps was. Also, if Titanium Backup saves to your sd card and you do an EXT wipe, won't that delete all of your saved data? How does it restore? I hope this question isnt on the forum somewhere, I tried searching and couldnt quite find the answer i was looking for.
Thanks for the help. You guys on here have been lifesavers.
Hi,
Okay so first Titanium backup will back up your system settings and your applications and does a fine job at it too! When you wipe your Ext2/3/4 partition all your doing is cleaning off any data held in it. This does not effect your fat 32 partition which is where all your stuff is (pictures, albums, films, ringtones etc) I haven't deleted my fat32 partition ever as this never needs touching really. Apps2sd runs from your Ext partiton so wiping will kill all your apps but this is where Titanium comes in and as it saves to the fat32 partition you have no worries wiping. Also suggest backing up on a PC, I do once a week and saved me a few headaches
Open Titanium and hit menu, then batch. This will bring up a list of options to 'Run' backup or restore. I would strongly suggest also to donate $3.99 for the paid version with the hyper shell.
Anything else you need help with?
Nope. Thanks man. I just needed a few things cleared up before I went ahead and wiped my ext. You were a great help.
No problem, glad to have helped
you say it saves system settings...
so i have about 30 ringtones set to specific contacts, if i wipe/flash a new rom.
restore using titanium backup. Will all those ringtones be set back to the proper contacts automatically with TTB? cuz its a pain in the *** setting them each new rom
i tried mybackup pro a long time ago and it didn't do this which is why i don't waste my time with that app. (that may be changed now, it's been about 8 months)
would I be able to Restore my backup if I have flashed a new rom without problems?
I'm having problems with Titanium Backup. I made backup of a lot of apps before flashing some new stuff to my Galaxy S, but now when I try to restore them it just gets stuck. At first there's that little window saying restoring, but that disappears and it seems like everything is fine. However, when I try to restore next app it just says that a process is already running and it stays that way until I kill it via Autokiller. The app gets installed so that's fine, but the problem is that I would really like to just run a batch-operation and not have to kill the Titanium-process for every app i have back-up of...
Any solutions good people of XDA?
check at the new version, it has an alternative restore mode that you need to enable for it to work on the galaxy s
Another restore question
I installed Titanium backup on my Galaxy S Captivate yesterday, did a batch backup of "all user apps + System Data" in the list it showed the bloatware ATT apps which I wanted to uninstall but with the option of reinstalling them if I ever needed to bring the phone back to ATT.
I did a test uninstall of one of the market apps and then did a restore and it worked fine. Then I tried to un installed one of the ATT apps, which worked but when I tried to restore it by clicking on the crossed out app at the bottom of the list, there is no option to restore it, just delete.
Did I do something wrong with the backup or am I not restoring it properly? my test worked fine so I thought I had it figured out but obviously I am doing something wrong.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks!
Similar problem with no luck at reinstalling Att apps. I accidently deleted google talk and now cannot download new apps.
I have a similar question to the OP.
If I use the Master Clear or whatever is called to restore my phone to stock...that is supposed to delete the internal SD Card so, if I were to copy the Titanium Back Up folder to my PC then copy it back to the SD card after the clearing is done...would that be enough to restore all the games and apps?
I have titanium backup stored in sdcard, this backup is settings/wallpaper, is possible to extract from this file only wallpaper, without restoring all backup to the phone??
My news app/widget not working on MY HTC DHD even after several reboot/restart. So I decided to back up the apps and widget trough titanium backup and uninstall the app+widget. After reinstalling the apps/widget. the news app is working again but the widget, I cant find it in widget menus when I tried to add it to home screen.
Any help appreciated.
Thx

This happened to me as well. Go into the "more" option thru Titanium and select the Market Doctor. This should link your apps back up with the Market. Also, sometimes simply installing an app thru the Market and/or a reboot will get my installed apps to show up properly.
OK thanks. Will try it out.

Hope that worked, but just in case, there's another way. Once in Titanium, click backup/restore, and then scroll to your desired app. Long press the app and then click the option to "attach to market (forced)."
Market Doctor - Amazon Market
I installed a new ROM and restored my apps with TiBu. I was having some syncing problems in the Android Market so I ran Market Doctor. The problem is that I did not know to de-select the Amazon sourced apps so 47 of them got linked to the Android Market. I have since manually de-linked (long press) each of those apps solving most of the problem but they still show up in the Market list but under the 'Not Installed' section at the bottom. Is there a way to permanently break the link? I am concerned about having to deal with it in the future. Maybe re-run Market Doctor following the proper de-select process?

[Q] Urgent Help needed (deleted apps)

I have a problem that is causing me a lot of stress and have been unable to think of and find a solution. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Today a friend of mine was looking through my phone and commented at how my internal storage was almost gone. He said that he could free up some space and so I obliged, as he knew his way around phones quite well. He was looking through a folder and commented that there were some .apk files that could be deleted to free up space. Thinking they were files I had gotten from downloads, I said it was OK to delete them. This was my mistake, as I should have asked where exactly these files were. He deletes the files and my internal storage frees up a few dozen megabytes. This is where everything went to hell. As soon as he finished deleting those .apk files applications start force closing one after another. Thinking it was a glitch he shuts down and restarts the phone. Upon restart, I find ALL my applications gone. The icons are gone and when clicking a spot where an application used to be, it says application not found.
My phone is rooted using DooMLoRD Easy Rooting Toolkit.
I HAD Titanium Backup (root) installed before this mess started.
I HAD rootexplorer installed as well.
Upon further investigation, my friend told me that he had deleted these .apk files from the phone memory under a data folder. He couldn't get more specific than that. He accessed these files through rootexplorer.
I seriously don't know what to do and am about to cry.
I thought that by reinstalling google play and titanium backup I'd be able to restore these applications but I can't even install the downloaded .apks from the internet. Tried putting it on my SD card and opening it but it doesn't recognize any program to install. I thought of using the Sony Ericsson PC Companion to install the .apks but don't know how my phone will be affected since it's been rooted using DooMLoRD's method.
Someone please help. I'm still a newbie with all of this and don't really know what I'm doing. Searches for similar problems on the internet haven't proven useful at all. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thank you
Okay. You need to loose all your data. Take back up of contacts. It should be possible with the stock contacts app. And your msgs if you want.
Then do a factory reset. You will need to download your apps all over again. And if you had taken back up using titanium backup, you will be able to reinstall titanium back up after the factory reset. And you can restore things.
Thanks,
Rick

Your solution worked. Lost some data restoring a Titanium backup a couple days old but it's better than having everything missing. Thanks!

[Q] Problem with Go Backup - Can't restore apps. Please help us.

So this is what happened.
I backed up all my apps using Go Backup, so there's now about 500MB worth of files all waiting to be restored. The reason I did the backup was that I was to flash a new ROM, which I did.
However, upon reinstalling Go Backup, I found that it doesn't recognize my backed up files anymore compared to the previous days I used it. Researching about the issue I soon realized that the problem is encountered my numerous people, all of whom losing their files because of Go Backup's inability to recognize files from their last update.
I tried installing Pro and the previous versions, but it wasn't successful.
Yes, I can install the apk files one by one, but that would be quite a hassle whenever I'd flash a new ROM. Anyone can help us on this one?
Thank you so much.
EDIT: So I tried reinstalling each apk with their corresponding tar files. Turns out there are some that can't be installed, the games. Agent Dash and Subway Surfr apks, for instance, would give me the message: there was a problem parsing the package. I guess I need Go Backup after all.

I've faced this before and i lost a lot of data because of Go backup. I was forced to move to a much better alternative such as MyBackup Pro or if you're rooted then you can use Titanium Backup no backup application can beat Titanium!
Yeah, in the end I had to abandon my save files.
I'll make it a point to use TB from now on. Thanks.
You're welcome mate be careful next time!

Hey I think I found a fix for ya. I just went through the same thing. I flashed a ROM and boom! I can't update jack even though all my data was on my external sd card. Uber gay. But here's a quick step by step:
1. Download and load gobackup
2. Make a backup of anything at all. It can be 1k of stuff for all i care.
3. Go to gobackup and check the settings you should see the file path (or something similar to it) /storage/sdcard0/GObackup/Allbackup
4. In any event check the path (this/that/sdcard/blahblahblah...) and make sure you have that Allbackup at the end. That's why you did step 2 is to get that folder loaded.
5. However you'd like, I used root explorer to copy and paste it, or you can simply use the USB funtion, but find the gobackup file in your external sd, pick out your backup and place it in the Allbackup folder mentioned in steps 3 and 4. And voila! Open gobackup and it'll be there. I hope it works for you to.

didn't work for me either.
I can see it all mnt/emmc/gobackup/allbackup/newbackup
this is the path the app refers to at its base - but cannot restore from it
guys does not worket for me either im so mad right now!!!!
all of my contacts and sms and all other thing is gone
but i find my prev back up on dropbox
its working but its my old back up and i need my last back up
this app is bull ****!!!!!!
Same problem, but I won't give up without fight.
Anyway, I tried to change permissions, add exceptions in system files, format card - non of this helped. Still Go Backup is useless in every way. Here are some screenshots, maybe they will help someone solve this problem.
Hi. Finally fix that
after flashing new ROM, i made a new backup (from 1 sms, 1 contact and 1 call log that i make me).
then rename old backup to name of new backup, after delete the new backup in file manager. (Ex. "2013-09-12_16-30-18_sms.dat" to "2013-09-14_02-50-09_sms.dat"
and restore new backup in Go backup that contain old data!

[Q]Help! Titanium Backup and Hexmob Recovery undelete?

You guys can laugh at my misfortune, but I need your help. A customer needed some work done that required downgrading his OS. So before doing so I used titanium backup to back everything up...to the INTERNAL SD!
Yeah one star TiBu, two thumbs way down. Why the heck would you default to the internal storage rather than the EXTERNAL? I guess it is my fault for not checking the location of the backup but I also did not expect the internal storage to be erased when flashing via Clockworkmod and Odin. I also did some OTA updates during my troubleshooting, this particular issue was very stubborn. Somewhere in there the backups were entirely erased.
Anyway, I used Hexmob Recovery Pro to backup the deleted files, hoping to salvage the apps and other user data. Well I got over five thousand files and they're all named like this:
f6826096.xml
f6826112.sqlite
f3946400.png
f6841912.txt
etc
This would be very handy if they were just pictures and other documents, but they're supposed to be a backup compatible with Titanium Backup. I tried to go to settings > preferences > backup folder location > detect > whole device. It didn't find anything. I tried manually adding all the files into the backup location that is listed by default, and they did not show up. I tried to force close titanium backup to force it to check the folder again. Without Titanium Backup able to recognize the files, none of them are going to do me any good. So:
How is a titanium backup structured? Can I make these files conform to that format so some of the user data can go back on?
Would anyone (via PM/e-mail) like to look at some of these files to help me identify if they belong to a backup? Most are XML or TXT files, which look like property lists?
How long is this process going to take? I think the customer's data may not be important but I promised I would not erase anything.

[Q] Titanium backup not backing up app just data on 5.02

Ok guys here's my problem on KK with a sdcard mod I was able to use TB no problems. Yesterday I installed a rooted version of 5.02(lollipop) onto my device. Everything appears to work perfectly and root is fine.
Now originally I thought TB could read/write to the original TB location on external sdcard but my morning schedules failed. OK i thought and after some research I found a setting in the the setting backup location to allow lollipop compatibility.
But what I have found since is only data seems to be getting backed up no apk at all :/
pics attached show what i mean
pic 1 is what happened to an app I tried to backup in lollipop
pic 2 what the apps should look like taken in KK
pic 3 shows PSN app backed up in lollipop
pic 4 shows the backup of remote play taken in KK
Have I missed something in a setting or is lollipop screwing me around?
Any help would be grately appreciated, Ive been unable to find anything like this in google searches and I wanna get it ironed out before making anymore backups.
anyone?
Tried mount name space in SU settings but made no difference Still not sure whats screwing up.
To anyone using TB on lollipop I'm assuming you used the "create rooted firmware" method of installation. But may I ask how u used TB to restore and currently backup?
Did u use a Premade backup zip for reinstalling or standard batch method from app?
Have you tried to make a backup of a user app since reinstalling, does it backup correctly with market link etc?
Did you have to change any SU settings or TB settings for proper function?
From what I can gather TB can't find the installation path of the apk so doesn't back it up and loses the market links etc.
EDIT: I appear to of solved the problem by using sd card fix on platform xml instead of using document provider in setting up the storage folder.
Hello ? I've same problem but I'm still unable to solve. Could please share how exactly you sorted out the problem. Thanks in advance

me too
On ti backup I changed the location where it found my backups (on SD) and used "Document Provider" since ti says it's recommended for devices 5.0 and up or something. After that you just have to select the root of your SD card (not ti backup folder) and then select the ti backup folder. I don't know why ti didn't do this by default since it knows what my android version is but now it works and I'm happy.
edit: btw I know it's an old thread but it was one of the first results on google so I'm replying here.
