My company has instituted use of MaaS360 as a MDM for BYOD android phones. The IT folks are preventing rooted and jailbroken phones from accessing corporate email from exchange.
On my Galaxy S4 I have tried several things to work around, including OTA Rootkeeper, Hide my root app, and SuperSU's temporary unroot. However MaaS360 manages to find out that the phone is still rooted. I tried the solution posted for Mobileiron on this site (freezing the MDM using TiBU immediately after rooting) but that does not work either.
My IT department is fine with "temporary" unroot but they do not think that it is possible to do so in MaaS360 while still ensuring that the device is not permanently rooted. I am wondering if someone knows how MaaS360 figures out that a device is rooted and whether there is a way for it to nor report when the device is temporarily unrooted using one of the methods discussed above.
Have you found a solution to this problem? I was wondering the same thing.

Nope... the only solution is to do a permanent unroot after setting up the ROM/device to your liking and before adding the MaaS360-enabled account.
Sounds like a reasonable solution to me. Thank you.

Yes, I find it alright. Make sure you reboot twice after doing a perm unroot (and before adding your MaaS360 enabled account). Sometimes it takes a additional reboot before the phone actually removed all su-related binaries.

Could you please confirm that it's okay to have a custom ROM flashed while using MDM so long as the device is no longer rooted?
I'd like to do this without ever getting flagged in the first place. My plan is to uninstall maas360, root the device, flash my custom rom, perm unroot the device, reboot twice and reinstall maas360. Will this be okay?
Thanks

I believe that answer depends on how your organization has set security policies on the MDM. For me, I have been using custom ROM (GoldenEYE) for several months now, and not been flagged so long as I add the exchange account after doing a full unroot and rebooting twice. You may want to check with your IT if they are OK with custom ROMs.. Most IT would be OK if you unroot I guess.
The steps you outlines are fine - I pretty much use the same sequence everytime I update to a newer version of the ROM. So far, no problems since 6+ months!
you may want to try rootcloak plus http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2607273
I'd be very interested in hearing if it works for Maas.

No problem! All I did was download the RootCloak 1.4 framework in Xposed, then soft-rebooted my phone and and sent myself the Maas360 registration once again and it allowed me to complete it!
Edit: sorry I added the com.fiberlink... in Rootcloak firstly.

I have n5, currently Cataclysm rom (which comes prerooted), and both xposed with rootcloak and cydia with rootcloak+.
Maas 4.41 still detects root.
if you have an older version, could you please backup it and send me the link to it?
thanks!

Hello
I speak very little English, excuse me for my English
I'm not new to the Root,I have a Samsung S4 Root with a lot of application for whom I need a root
My problem is that my company asked me to set the phone control app MaaS360
I installed MaaS360, the app tells me that I do not respect the safety and policy MaaS360 tells me to reset the phone to the original without Root.
I seek a way to make him believe that the phone is not root
Do you have any idea?
It's very urgent
Best regards

You have to install the Here Maps app on your phone.
Hi, thank you. I installed the here beta app on the phone, but I cannot see any indication of the app on the watch, or how to install it. I think I may be being stupid but I have spent hours trying!
It wont work. Read the thread i left above and try to root it and install a rom acorded to your phone region or wait for samsung to update samgung gear apps.
That is not the problem I am having. I can install apps without any problem. The navigation app is as far as I can tell preinstalled, but not on my device. It is not in the app store, or if it is, I cannot find it.
For anyone finding this, I fixed my problem by flashing the watch with the Samsung UK ROM using ODIN and now everything works perfectly.

Okay I got it working by performing factory reset of the gear s after I had installed the BTU rom. Loving the watch so far, much faster than I expected it to be after reading the othe r user reviews.

How to change rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gear-s/help/how-to-change-rom-t2945836
I have the Korean version too but could not flash the BTU ROM. I used Odin 3.09 but it FAILED half way bricking my Gear. I tried other version but no cure. In the end I had to bring it back to Samsung service to have them restored. Now its back to normal.
Wonder what went wrong. The only unusual thing I did was to perform all the flashing on simulated Windows 7 running on a Macbook. But others have done that too without any problem.
Did you guys have to root the Gear S first before flashing it with the new ROM?
Thanks
Hey all, I've been having a lot of fun playing pokemon go but recently the newest version of the game has blocked users who have rooted phones, there's a hack called magisk that will allow the root to be toggled off while the game is being played and then back on when it is not. I am having no luck installing it though.
Has anyone else tried and succeeded to run this mod?
I'm running OL1 (5.1.1), stock rom.
Thanks!

I'm running it now. Although I've read that it can be done without doing a full Factory Reset, per the instructions, I wasn't able to make it work. There's a tutorial from Android Police that explains everything and provides links to the various files needed. Google search "magisk Pokemon go". You'll see the link. It's not too complicated of a process but make sure you have everything backed up.

I also have had no luck installing it. I have a sm-g900h on marshallow 6.0.1 and I've tried 5 times on doing it, but it still won't work. I've looked for a week for different drivers and archives to do it but I can't find any that work.
I'd really like help because I'm a total newbie in this and I don't know what to do or if I'm doing something wrong.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong because all that sounded pretty much like everything else. I've tried nearly every combination of flashing files, unrooting, leaving root. When I unroot I cannot boot to the OS, I was able to play the newer version when I unrooted but I don't think I'm going to do that. Guess I'll just play the old one as long as I can before the force the update and then maybe stop playing :-/

Yeah, I considered upgrading to Marshmallow because I've seen videos of it working for an S7 edge running Marshmallow and thought that Magisk may have had better support with 6.0. I really hope I don't need to get an S7 to get the game to work while rooted...The S5 is still a much better featured phone IMHO and I'm going to use it until it doesn't work anymore because it's so rock solid.
I already solved the problem I had installing it.
Turns out I was replacing the compatible version of super su that comes in the .zip without noticing.
It was all because I didn't read the instructions provided and let TWRP install the super su before rebooting.
I just didn't let TRWP install super su and it worked like a charm.

Hi everyone,
I recently bought a kindle fire hdx 7 and decided I wanted to get rid of fire OS and put an android ROM on to it. I used kingroot to root the tablet and I used the following guide to unlock the bootloader:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75284993&postcount=1006
All went well and I put Aosp Extended rom on it all worked. I also installed Magisk but when I do the safetynet check it fails 'CtsProfile: Profile: false. I was wondering if anyone would know how to fix this or point me in the right direction to solve this.
Thanks for your Time.

Hi, thanks for reply I did a bit of reading and saw that someone mentioned that restoring the original ROM and installing rootking, unroot and then root again using magisk would sort the CTS profile. Am quite new to this so don't really know much about it. Does it matter that CTS profile fails and is it fine to leave it?

Absolutely fine unless one of your apps, typically games and banking apps, are root aware. None of my apps care so neither do I.

Long story short.
I picked up this cheap tablet because i want to install it in my car permanently. If it gets stolen it's easily replaceable. It is a SM-T227U
Upon buying it I've found out a couple things. I can't root it? And
I cant use android auto on it.
I've heen digging through these forums but the threads are kinda confusing. Would anyone have time to walk me through a root process and show me how to obtain whatever os I need to accomplish what I'm trying to do? My biggest concern right now is getting android auto to connect wirelessly to my Kenwood.
I side loaded the apk but, my device still won't connect for audio. Only calls. Which I don't have lol
