Help with bootloader on Android 13 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I want to root my Z Fold3 SM-F926B running Android 13, but as I saw everywhere, I need bootloader enable. I want to know if I can do a bootloader without losing all my files, or if I can back up my phone using samsung backup optios and after I enabled the bootloader I can redo everything that was backed up. And after that, is there anything more I have to do to use Magisk? Like something so complicated as bootloadeing?
By backing up, I mean everything that my phone has, like apps, photos, accounts and everything else. Samsung has an option to save your current phone state and you can download it back after a reset or on another phone.

When you unlock the bootloader, your device will have to be wiped. So yes, you will have to back up your phone beforehand to safe everything. As for how to back it up and restore it, do a quick search online and see. The official installation instructions for Magisk can be found here.
If you have any questions, let me know.

why unlock bootloader

1.how do i backup my Verizon Samsung note 2 keis does not work
2.what exactly does mean if you unlock the boot loader it seems i need to do this so i can use the backup option int the galaxy note 2 toolkit
is there another way to backup or is this the only way? im on stock rooted I605VRALJB. all i want is to be able to do is a backup throgh keis or equivalent
anyone recomend a lockscreen like noled or a simple notification/nightstand clock app/widget
thnks
1. The best way to make a backup requires an unlocked phone with a custom recovery. Then you can make a full image of your phone in it's current state. Very handy.
2. Unlocking the bootloader gives you access to low level parts of the phone, things outside of Android itself. It allows you to install and tweak parts of your phone you otherwise couldn't, like the kernel and the recovery. This means more customization like different ROM's and overclocking capability. If you have any interest in modifying your phone I would recommend unlocking your bootloader, but only if you're comfortable doing it. It's so easy that anyone could do it, but still it's always your responsibility if anything happens.
No idea for your last question.
ok so i need to unlock the boot loader to be able to do the backup right? Then do i need to secure it as in change a root password or is that more of a you can brick your phone?
If that is what i need to do is it hard to undo since it is not recomended to use odin again except to go back to stock which is fine since i dont want to mod anything except getting root so i can tether and being able to do a backup. by the way the unlocking process will it erase my current setup? or will it stay the same since im already stock with only mod being rooted? any links to videos showing how to would be nice thanks. yea so easy a cave man could do it but the internet can prouduce a better caveman/noob.
looking to get another verizen note 2 any idea of where to get one cheap?

[Q] Backup/Restore b4 return dilema.

so this is my problem. Im having some issues with my phone and I want it to be changed. The issues really dont matter. In order for my provider to send me another phone they want me to do a master reset. This of course will delete all my apps and settings. As far as I know there is not a backup app that once you restore the phone and apps the restored phone will have all it's app data in place, the icons will be where you want them, etc, just like you would from when you clone or make an image from a Hard Drive from pc... Or is there and application that will do this? My only other option (i believe) is to root the phone to then use an app to do a real backup, then unroot the phone, root the new phone and do the restore. I also have to remove the root from the old phone but can that be done without increasing the counter? This is all a big hassle. I cant believe you can do a real backup/restore on a phone nowadays....
If there is any other way to do it I will appreciate the help. I will have to do this in the next days since my warranty expires in a bit over a month...
Thanks!
You are correct ....
Rooting of the device is needed, then the unroot.
It's the only method I'm aware of in getting a full nandroid backup ..g
Sarge has it right if you want to use backup apps.
If you don't want to root, you will need to flash TWRP or CWR to get the custom recovery and backup. Then make a backup to your external SD card. Use recovery to factory reset. Send the phone away after removing SD card and sim card. The backup is called a nandroid and it is basically an image of the phone.
On new phone flash same recovery then restore the backup. When you start the phone it will be as the broken one was.
You can remove the recovery from the broken phone, but I never heard of anyone getting problems from the warranty people for that.
Thanks both of you guys for the information. I am getting ready to do the root not only for the backup but there are quite a few apps that I want to use that require root that I am going to have to do it.
Now, I started reading tonight and the more I read the more I get confused. Is there an official guide to root the note (specifically AT&T running ICS 4.0.4 if there is a difference) in a way that I can unroot it in the future avoiding tripping any counters?
I have read so many different threads about rooting, they tend to be different so I am looking for the "current" accepted "method" to do this with decent steps if possible. Thanks much!
Whoa whoa, are we forgetting about ADB Backup?
What do you mean CPA?
BTW, I want to root the stock att ics, I am not interested into flashing another rom.

Yeah I understand, you're wanting to do a full backup of your phone before you turn it in right? Or, at the very least, your apps and settings?
Welp, here you go: no root required.
A quick google search for "ADB backup" should get you the info you need as well.
Also looks like there's an XDA dev who came up with a much easier interface (as opposed to doing everything via command-line, which still isn't that difficult). Might be worth checking:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36499906
Edit: Read your second post, and it looks like you're interested in rooting...I guess I was confused as to your intentions after reading you first post, which just sounded like you didn't want to lose your info after doing a factory reset. Regardless, it is HIGHLY advised before doing any sort of root-related activity to do an ADB backup. That way, if anything goes wrong in the rooting process itself, or if you later decide you want to go back to stock and/or all of your original apps and settings from before the root, you can literally be back with a clean slate within a matter of minutes.
Thanks very much for the link. I have swapped phones already but it will be helpful before I root. THANKS!
after looking at adb I see it would not work for my initial needs as it only can be restored to the same device. I wanted something I could do a backup in the old one and restore that backup in the new one. Anyway, since I am past that anyway I am going to give it a try in theold device.... thanks!

The full backup, yes (regarding being able to only restore to the same device) but you could literally extract whatever data you want from the ADB backup using WinRar, then manually push it to your new device.
Apparently ADB backup is broke, it does not respect the -noshared flag and the resulting file is corrupted requiring more processing on the file for it to work... dang it! Seems it has been fixed in JB...
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=28303
http://www.acertabletforum.com/foru...stem-backup-ics-only-root-not-required-2.html
and there is more if you search the net.... Now, why will they not fix it is beyond me. Ok, so the command does not respect -noshared, that is easy to fix, I can just pull my sd card out but making an otherwise broken and unusable file giving the user the false sense of security and not fixing the bug is plain wrong... The only option will be to upgrade to JB but the official upgrade is not out and knowing at&t I wont be for a bit... I am not much into flashing leaked rom although that might change in the near future...
Thanks.

Well crap man, that sucks - sorry! I'm not gonna lie, I didn't read the link you posted as I'm pulling all nighters about 3 times a week during for the busy season of my profession (see my user name lol)...but you're saying that something actually went WRONG with the SDK on ICS firmware - and Google isn't fixing it?? That can't be right...right?
I can personally couch for this method, as I used it to make a full unrooted backup - of stock 4.0.4 ICS - back in October when I rooted my Note for the first time. And the first thing I did (per the rooting tutorial I was following) was verify the backup by doing a restore via ADB before I rooted - and everything worked fine. Like I said, sorry it's not working for you! Have you considered rooting, installing a custom recovery, doing a nandroid backup (and saving it someplace safe of course), then doing a full unroot back to stock + reset your flash counter? There are some great tutorials to walk you through all of that on the Galaxy Note Everything Thread in the General forum, in case that's an option.

But what's the point in putting things simply like that when I can write an entire paragraph saying the same thing, but more confusing??

Easily root trough Kingroot?

I want to root my 5X but I dont have a PC. I have found a app named Kingroot. It says it can root my device.
1. Does it work?
2. Will I lose my data
3. Will it brick, that is the question
Since this device's bootloader is unlockable, why not simply unlock bootloader and flash SuperSU? Data can always be backed up and restored. It's really easiest and cleanest way, and you're not using random shady apps.
I think that Kingoroot is quite a security concern because there is no way to know what's that app pushing to your system - used it on my old Allwiner tab, and had nothing but trouble later (trying to remove KR crap from device and replace it with SuperSU nearly bricked it after KR removal, so I had to do a full reflash of device, lost everything on it, and lost five days trying to find an exploit manually, since device didn't have usable recovery... and all because of that Kingoroot crap - lesson learned the hard way), but hey, it's your device.

Bootloader unlock and flash su is definitely the cleaner way to do it and there are good guides available but the oem unlock part does require fastboot which if you don't have access to a computer, I don't think you can do it without having root already.
I have used Kingroot before as well, not for the 5x though. However, I immediately flashed a custom rom however so I didn't have to deal with all that junk haha. Still, as @ShadySquirrell said, you don't really know what's going on underneath the hood.
Another thing to note is kingroot has its own su binary as far as I know, not supersu, although there are ways to change that.
I really would just recommend finding a pc to work on if possible however, it's a better solution. Unlocking bootloader will wipe your data so make sure to back up what you can though. I don't recall kingroot wiping data but then again, I didn't care at the time anyways.
Hope this helps

So if I now root my phone over the pc, can I just backup my data and restore them later with HiSuite and the root is still there. Or how did you backup?
kingoroot worked great on my lg d851 (g3) but the bootloader was unlocked on that device. as far as backing up what you currently have , id back up all of the downloads, photos,mp3s etc to your computers hard drive first, and then use fastboot. hisuite may work decently but i didnt like it on my computer, it seemed like a RAM Hog on my PC so i cant vouch for it personally
I've also never really used hisuite but from a quick google search seems like it would work fine. I assume you're staying with the stock rom so hisuite would prob work but if not, the process is pretty much the same except you should back up using titanium or something similar after restore from hisuite.
*(I didn't backup through hisuite when I rooted and flashed since I didn't have anything I needed to keep and I was changing roms anyways)
As far as backing up, @talksickisil said what I was thinking, just backup all your personal data somewhere, make sure your contacts, calendar, accounts, etc are backed up as well.
You can try an adb backup as well but maybe someone else can give you more info on that. There's quite a few tools if you don't like using terminal commands. There's a couple xda threads on adb backups as well.
Yes it good to back up those as well. But hopefully your google account is set to sync your contacts calendars gmail and google drive data etc, this way when you log in again it syncs back to you.
DO NOT root with Kingroot.
Sent from my Galaxy Tab 3 using XDA Labs

Never ever root with KingRoot or any other such app. It's better to remain without a root.
will not root will fail . u should unlock bootloader .
even though if you have unlocked bootloader, king root just dont work on honor 5x

Photo Recovery of deleted photos

My daughters friend just got back from a week long school trip. She went to check her photos and they were all gone. Somehow they were deleted.
She has a Samsung Galaxy S7 sm-G930P phone. Everything I have tried, and read about says this phone cannot be rooted. Is there a way to do a data recovery without rooting? Or would Sprint be able to help recover deleted files or at least root it so we can run testdisk or some other application.
Her firmware is R16NW.G930PVPS7CRH2
If there is a way to root this phone, please let me know. I haven't found any options that work with it.
Thanks.

There is no root due to the bootloader being locked down and no there is no way to unlock the bootloader.
Those pictures are most likely gone. Which should not be the case as every Samsung has the auto backup feature enabled by default.

Thanks, I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything. She has the backup turned on, but for some reason the photos are not checked, so I'm guessing it's only backing up the system files.
Thank you.

Alright I've received the email to unlock the bootloader now I have some questions before using it..

Alright, I've received the email as the title implies but here are the questions I have before I proceed into the whole process
Is there a way to backup the stock image without TWRP? if so how do you get the stock image backed up if it's impossible how to back up the stock bootlover/recovery before installing TWRP if I were to get rid of TWRP one day?
also is it possible to just root the system without flashing anything to avoid data loss? this would be the preferred option actually, thanks! (Using the be2028 t-mobile version, if there's a premade backup that'll be cool too.)

I am just getting back to messing around with phones after about 5 years. So many things have changed and I am trying to get answers here as well.
I used TWRP and Magisk to root my phone. Installing TWRP will not wipe your data as it is flashed to a different partition but to install TWRP you have to unlock the bootloader and that will wipe your userdata. And no, I don't believe there is any possibility of rooting without unlocking the bootloader. If you decide you want to go back to stock, there are stock roms available and you can re-lock the bootloader on the N10 so you should be able to set it back to just like it was when you first bought it. I say should because I have never done it, just read that it can be done when I unlocked and flashed mine.
I wish I could be of more help but so many things have changed in the years since I've been away from doing this stuff I feel like a total noob again.

No I do not believe there's a way to gain root without flashing anything. There's no need to backup anything you can always use the MSM download tool to restore your device. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...l-to-restore-your-device-to-oxygenos.4204445/ You should be able to find most of the stock imgs on here already if you'd really need to flash back. I'm no expert either, just my experience with this phone in particular has been pretty straightforward. I never backed up anything lol.
Twrp is iffy i made a backup I'll never use, check out the post about flashing international rom to tmo and metro devices, that's my backup. Also you can run 11.0.3/2 firmware and boot 11 gsi's the post about lir rom has the info. Flash the product_gsi.img referenced there, I have never deleted my product partition and I only leave oos ten installed long enough to take ota's. There are more roms in the source forge page referenced with lir rom post. Flash magisk via recovery, either side load or twrp, pay attention that it flashes partition sda14(super image) or wifi breaks.
