Since 2 days my Sony Xperia 1 III get really hot. It doesn't matter if i am only in the menu or watching yt it get's hot. Checking with devCheck the cpu nearly always on full boost. I gues it is maybe due to a malfunctioning app or the latest softwer update(61.2.A.0.388). Is there a way to check what is the main cause? Thanks for the advices.
I'm not sure if external site links are allowed, but this is a general issue since early Feb on Xperia 1 II / 5 II / 10II / 1 III / 5 III / 10 III / 1IV / 5 IV models.
More info in this reddit post. We only can wait to sony/google fix this.
Regards
Hi!
If the overheating issue on your Sony Xperia 1 III is determined to be a hardware issue, it may require a repair or replacement by an authorized service center. This could be due to a malfunctioning component within the phone, such as the battery or the CPU. It's important to get it inspected by a professional as attempting to repair a hardware issue on your own can cause further damage to the device. Also, if your overheating issue with your Sony Xperia 1 III has resulted in lost or inaccessible data, SalvageData may be able to help you recover it. SalvageData is truly a lifesaver. I was hesitant to trust someone with my sensitive information, but their professionalism and expertise put me at ease.
Good luck
I tried turning on Ambient Display to see if the Android 13 update reduced its battery drain. Now it drains so fast that that the phone is warm while idle.
I'll check ADB logs to see if it's crash looping too.

Hi, a very eaay way to see if an app is causing high CPU usage, is to open local terminal and type in "top". htop is more graphical but we don't have it.
"top" is like task manager - it shows resources utilization and you can see the most demanding process.
You're running 'top' in a cgroup so you're seeing localized information only; it's not related at all to system use. You have to use the system shell that seems to be only available in ADB now. I only see the CPU throttled up running ADB so it's not helpful.
In older Androids with the developer shell app, you wanted to see 'top' report using lots of CPU for itself. That meant the CPUs were scaling down to match low demand. If it was using 0.1%, the CPU was throttled up for something.
I factory reseted the phone and it fixed the issue. Now i am updating the programs one by one to see if a program caused this or not.

Hi everyone
Seeder is an app that aims to reduce lag by 90% on Android.
It uses different method of generating random numbers which improves IO scheduling and in turn reduces lag. I have tried it on my G3 and it does help while loading apps like Google Maps and browsing.
This only works on 2.2+. I have tested it on CM7.2.

It's a paid app on the Play store but the dev has uploaded it to xda for free. The paid app is for donation.
I am JUST sharing this app and telling you guys that this works on our G3. Not affiliated with anyone.
You should mention that it also drains the battery and it's not perfectly working yet so it's a work in progress. Many people have said that all it does it keep the CPU speeds higher and wake the CPU every second or something so the phone doesn't go into deep sleep. This is why the battery dies quicker and when I was using it I also noticed the battery drain.

Indeed.
I did give it a shot, noticed a slight difference (perhaps a placebo) but it sure did reduce my battery life by 70%.
It's proved by Google devs themselves that this IS a placebo effect.
Here's their input -
The only users of /dev/random are libcrypto (used for cryptographic operations like SSL connections, ssh key generation, and so on), wpa_supplicant/hostapd (to generate WEP/WPA keys while in AP mode), and the libraries that generate random partition IDs when you do an ext2/3/4 format. None of those 3 users are in the path of app execution, so feeding random from urandom does nothing except make random… well… less random
So, this is pretty useless. Yeah.
Hi, i have some problems with this process, in battery use from settings, the android OS has a BIG BATTERY DRAIN, this works since the phone is unplugged, and my phone haven`t deep sleep, i lose 2-3% percent per hour in better battery stats the phone is awake ALL TIME and CPU SPY show me the lowest frequency is 384mhz and deep sleep doesn`t exist HELP ME PLEASE
Have you tried turning off all non-important services and sync , and see if that helps ??
Also there are some after market applications available on play-store that prevents such wake ups , by killing them. I couldn't recall them properly but I think they are named as Deep Sleep battery saver or something similar.
You can also use android tuner , to see what are the causes behind that.(Task manager has extensive features to look and control them.)
i havent active services (auto sync off, facebook notifications off, messenger off, gps off, google location off, etc), so i dont know what happen ill try to post some screen of my battery uses, this may help, thanks man! and sorry for my english
try some app like android tuner , it'll tell you which specific process is keeping it alive . It'l give more detailed insights into the running tasks.

Anyones knows what happen with my battery???
Can't say about it just by looking at these charts . You'' have to use some third party tool that provides monitoring of system processes . It'll give some info.

FAQ
1. Does it help to battery ?
Yes.
2. How it works? and Could you give more details?
Coolify is designed to cool your device's temp down by tweaking system values, like VM and systcl... it does the battery tweak. only 80 tweaks.
More tweaks like that.
XTweak, Tweak script
It doesn't change any CPU frequencries or Governors. you can look at the /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/.
3. About cooling effect
ROMs are different and The cooling effect is not the same, 80% of the ROMs has cooling effect, no all ROMs work perfect. because Too many ROMs
4. Why is Coolify needed to run on Foreground?
It can be set as background by turning off the notification in settings interface. I just make the cooling service is not easy to be killed by system.
5. Will your "One Power Guard" app conflict with this one? Or installing both of them are A-OK?
They do not have any conflicts and the core optimization is a part of OPG, it is able to install both of them.
6. Permission Description
android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED - To set as boot
android.permission.GET_TASKS - To determine whether Coolify's cooling service is running and show UI
android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE - To write error log to help solve any issues you might be facing and count the number of devices
android.permission.BATTERY_STATS - To get battery temperature
android.permission.INTERNET - To upgrade this app
android.permission.ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE - To determine the network is available and to upgrade
android.permission.READ_PHONE_STATE - To store certain exception information in server logs
android.permission.ACCESS_SUPERUSER - To get root access
7. What is non-service mode?
it means this app doesn't run a background service!

It has been a while since I did this trick so I'm doing my best to recall exactly what the tutorial said. I couldn't find anything via the search function and googling so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction to help me reverse it.
So roughly a year ago, I found a performance tweak trick on (I believe) XDA that required you to use AndroidSDK to change some settings on your phone so that it, if I recall correctly, forced some of the background apps to close (or something similar...I could be completely wrong about what it did). It was a non-root method. One of the key distinctive features of using this trick was that you would not be able to see the power consumption of each app in the phone settings anymore.
Since doing this tweak, android auto would constantly disconnect and reconnect from my car and I suspect that the tweak was causing the problem (Note: I installed the ability to use android auto via a 3rd party tweak and not from the dealer). I did not have any issues with using android auto until after doing the performance tweak, hence my suspicion. I also don't have a spare android to troubleshoot whether the problem is actually my phone. There hasn't been a noticeable difference in performance on my phone either after using the tweak so I would like to reverse it.
Notwithstanding my ability to find another android phone to troubleshoot with, the alternative option would be to do a factory reset on the phone.
@DevlicK
Do you mean you can't access the app power monitor settings on your Android device?

I can, it's just that the power consumption of apps page doesn't show anything/
@jwoegerbauer
Clarification: Battery usage for software shows up as 0% and the Power Consumption Page does not show any apps using battery power (but I can still see the hardware usage e.g screen, gps bluetooth etc)
I have this S23 Ultra for 3 weeks ish now and it was amazing on battery with YouTube ReVanced often getting 8-10h screen on with YouTube easily with 30+% left. Suddenly today it got pretty hot and battery drains like crazy in YouTube ReVanced.
I repatched the newest supported version, clean installed it, updated to latest microg, full shutdown and cold boot of the phone, cleared caches, nothing helps. Both on wifi and 5G the drain is this high.
Auto brightness was my second suspect and I checked the slider in the notification panel and it behaves normally. It responds to changes in ambient light as normal during YouTube and isn't overly high.
Anyone have any ideas what can cause it?
Check the screenshots (in Dutch unfortunately) for the difference in screen on and YouTube usage times.
8h+ sot and like 40% left so good:

Today, bad. Only 5+h screen on and way less YouTube and battery is basically empty.
update it, the icon even changed since then. You're on a old revision.
A big factor is what your screen brightness was when watching videos. If you watch videos in low brightness (like during nighttime), then there will be a big difference to battery life compared to watching videos in high brightness.
No problems here

Icon is manually set with Goodlocks theme engine from UX LED icon pack
But, i'm an xxxxx. I figured it out. It wasn't YouTube at all...
I got a new driver's license yesterday which I keep between my back case and the phone. This new one has NFC... It was just scanning NFC all day long with the phone unlocked... This apparently doesn't show up anywhere in battery stats.
Obviously I have NFC basically always on for Google Pay and such so yeah.
I can't keep my license in there anymore as there seems to be no real way to keep NFC on for pay but not read stuff constantly.
I'll figure something out. But problem solved.
