Portable USB BluRay/DVD player? - Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 / S7 Plus Questions & Answer

Anybody tried one with the S7+?
It would be handy for playback of those *difficult* to RIP titles.

There are ways to get DVD/Blu-Ray disc playback on Android devices using OTG. However, playing back protected BDs will not work as there are no native AACS and BD+ codecs available for Android. There is a very small probability that with VLC and Linux codecs this might work. Not without rooting and some additional black magic though.

To add to what #M0lle said. Blu-Ray and DVD players require more power to operate than external SSDs and thumb drives. The phone's USB-C connector wouldn't have enough power to reliably power the drive.

[Q] netflix - phone to tv question

i just set up a netflix account. i'm wondering how i can get movies on my phone and have them play on my tv? is this possible??? i plug it into the usb port on my tv and it doesn't show up. tried it into my bluray player also, still didn't show. switched the usb to disk mode, still nothing. any help would be great. thanks!
nevermind, just realized the usb isn't actually any kind of video output so its not possible unless i have a wifi gaming console or something. close thread if need be... thanks.
check the applications on your blu-ray player, it's possible that the unit itself can access your neftlix instant queue
As ricky states some blu-ray players have in there menu netflix installed. If the blu-ray player has built in wifi adapter connect to your wireless router and you are ready to go. If the player is wifi ready but no adapter you can get ethernet wireless adapter and use your PC to configure to connect to your router. Then plug into USB port on blu-ray player and you can stream Netflix with the player menu by selecting Netflix. Most of the newer blu-ray players have this capability.

[Q] USB vs MicroSD/SD slots - video playback

Found an odd one and not sure who's problem this is - is it app or OS?
I have a BluRay rip (made by me using MakeMKV) of Napoleon Dynamite. I have a variety of players installed but the most stable seems to be Dice Player (ad version).
I started by playing the film from a USB HDD and it was fine. So that I could play it just on the tablet without the dock I copied over to a 32GB microSD card. This is where the fun started.
Trying to play the film from either the microSD or the SD readers failed to find any audio or sub streams. Playing the *same* microSD in a USB adaptor worked fine.
Apart from dice player none of the others I tried even offered audio streams apart from MX Player but that was unstable (still) - but at least that saw audio streams in the SD card reader. I seemed to be more stable on the USB version of the mount.
Curious what I/O api dice player (and MX player stability) could be using that lets it play video but not audio from the same mkv container depending on the hardware device it's attached to. Ideas?
I can't remember all the details but if you have a blueray rip, I'm sure its a big file. movies that are over a certain size has to be installed on the prime itself. I think it may be 4gb or something. unless you modify it. there's a thread on it somewhere here in general That they got it working and had a situation similar to yours.
I really don't remember all the details but it had to do with movie rips being over a certain size had issues playing because of the file formatting or something. it has to be changed then it'll work. you might have to backtrack a few pages or so to find that thread.
I've played 10GB+ MKV's off the microsd card and USB hard drive via dock with no issues. Card and drive have been formatted in NTFS but thats just so large files can be copied to them. I've not heard of any limitation on playing movies and have not had any issues.
MX Player open file twice. so MX need more I/O bandwidth than dice.

Best way to Copy HD Video to Android?

I hope I posted this question in the right place. I have searched extensively and I could not find a specific solution.
I am wondering how you all get your HD video files to your Android device. I have a library of 720p MP4 (x264/AAC) videos on optical discs (CD/DVD). The files are 1-4GB each. I'd like to casually select a video and watch it on my Galaxy Nexus. Unfortunately, I haven't found a good way to do this. The phone is certainly capable of playing the videos smoothly and at full 720p resolution. However, it's getting the files to the device in a timely fashion that's the problem. Here's what I've tried so far:
I can load a disc into my desktop, copy the files to a local fileserver, and then transfer to my phone using SFTP or Samba/CIFS. The phone's wifi speed seems to cap out at about 1MB/sec on my 802.11n network so it would take 30 minutes to transfer one file! The phone's storage would fill up quickly too, but I could always delete old ones after I watch them. With such a slow transfer, I'd really have to plan in advance - not to mention the multiple steps to copy from disc to desktop to server to phone. I have tried several different apps and protocols. All seem to cap out at about 10Mbit/sec while a laptop gets 50-60Mbit/sec easy. My previous Android devices from different brands also had this limit so perhaps it's all that's supported by those tiny radios?
I prefer to use Linux on the desktop but there don't seem to be good solutions for MTP and PTP transfers under Linux.
I booted into a Windows machine, put a disc in the drive and attempted to copy to the device via USB 2.0. It was a bit quicker, but I was only able to get 2-4MB/sec so copying a handful of movies all at once takes over an hour - and I'm constantly interrupting my workflow rebooting into different operating systems.
I've considered getting a USB OTG cable so that I could plug an external (self-powered) DVD drive into the phone. However, I haven't found a definitive answer on whether or not generic USB DVD drives are supported via USB Host. Most seem to think they are not.
I'd remove an SD card and use a USB card reader on my desktop, but the Galaxy Nexus doesn't have one.
It would be nice to stream the movies from my network file server, but I haven't found a good solution for that either. Most of the file browsing apps that claim to support streaming actually copy files locally temporarily instead of reading them incrementally from the server. Since I run Linux, I don't have the capability of running those specialized Windows apps that simulate streaming from the desktop. I could root the phone and manually mount network drives, but the management of that doesn't seem elegant given I'm not always in range of my home network and I'd also like to take some with me on the go.
Once the movies are on the phone, they play great and I have no problems. It's just quite a challenge to get them there in a reasonable timeframe without headaches. How do those of you who watch HD movies on your phones handle this? Any suggestions? Thanks!
just google plex for linux and see if that works for you and theres an app for android as well not certain if this helps but I use plex everywhere.
I appreciate the suggestion, but I already have a fileserver set up. I don't see how plex would overcome any speed limitations, which is really the issue.
I use mediahouse upnp dlna app (free) to stream hd movies from a wirelessly connected hard drive.
You could also stream from a pc if you set the pc as a dlna server.
Also you can sometimes stream using es file explorer.

Portable DVD player screen casting

Hi,
not sure if this is the right forum but I figured I'll try here.
I recently purchased a two pack android portable dvd player tablet (DDAUTO DDA10D). It runs android 6.0 has HDMI out but not in. I would like my kids to be able to watch the same DVD and It does support screen casting and that works great if you play stuff over wifi, however...as soon as you enter a dvd or open the dvd player app it just turns off casting saying "disconnect screen from casting". The manufacturer does say this is not a supported feature but I was just wondering why? The DVDPlayer app (com.hcn.dvdplayer) must have something build in that stops casting when it launches. Is there any way to overwrite that or is there any other dvd player app I could install that has access to the internal dvd drive? I have not found one yet as they all assume it's just video files on internal storage. I've also installed multiple other screen casting apps with the exact same result. Somehow there must be a way to continue casting when a dvd plays as there are external dvd players from LG or Samsung that can cast to a tv if wanted and it does have build in DRM support so I don't know why this player would prevent that. Or could there be an additional app/feature installed that watches for the dvd player to launch and interrupts casting because of some Chinese copyright fears?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
That's weird. I have been using it since last summer, still no problems, everything works fine. I think it is a perfect little entertainment center for kids! Very easy to set up and use. I have spent a long time searching for a portable dvd player that supports both touch screen and HDMI function, so I can play movies and music on my phone for my kids while traveling.
Did you contact support?

Phone or tablet with HDMI Out capabilities as a media device for car

I'm looking for an inexpensive device (tablet or phone) that can be used in our van as a media device. I basically want to keep my entire video library on the phone or tablet and just play them to the larger screen dvd player.
My three main requirements would be:
1. Under $100
2. Has HDMI out capabilities (MHL, USB-C, hdmi) doesn't matter as long as it can output
3. Has expandable storage.
It doesn't even need to be a recent release but does need to be fast enough to handle playing movies and navigating through the library. Does anyone have any suggestions? or if anyone has better advice about an alternative, simple set up, that would be great.
