Question 45 Watt Charging - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Does the Samsung S23 Ultra ONLY accept Samsung Genuine 45 watt charger for Super Fast Charging 2.0 aka 45 watt charging ?!
BTW does anyone know any good 5A cables ?

Welcome to XDA.
Probably as it helps when charging troubleshooting; best to have two. It's on Amazon for $16.
I'm still using my original 25w brick/cable for my N10+, very long lived. Will charge even with 60 VAC input, it does well. It's not necessary though as long as the 3rd party charger complies with the protocols...
Samsung should of at least included a 25 w brick...

It needs to be able to have a PPS mode that can deliver 10 Volts at 4.5 Amps. Most chargers only deliver a maximum of 3A in PPS mode.

The Anker 313 Ace 45W charger does fast charging using the Samsung cable and is the 2.0 version required.

Try Anker 313
It can charge with 40W the S23 Ultra
But the diffrenz in total to 100% are only 8 Minutes to the 25W Charger

samsung 45 watt max PPS 4.05 A.
not 4.5A.

This one has the requisite charging tech needed.
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/insignia-45w-usb-c-compact-wall-charger-for-samsung-smartphones-tablets-black/6495821.p?skuId=6495821
You can check the Overview and at the bottom find the quick start guide which will show you what the charger supports. It's got 4.05 amp PPS.

That 4.05A is for 11V, not for 10V. If it was 10V at 4.05A, that would be 40.5 W not 45 W...
And the S23 Ultra itself has 10V 4.5A as its rated maximum rated listed in it's settings.

I have seen 43 watt charging on the device. Only available at low level like 15% battery. It'll taper off once the battery gets charged up

Your Samsung.com spec is talking about the charger, not the phone?
And if the phone can only accept 10V and the charger can only output 4.05A which is 40W, why is it called 45W charging?

Any update on Quick Charge 2.0 for NA honor 5x?

There was talk of working on a kernel to enable quick charge when I posted in July.
Nope. Qualcomm QuickCharge is still not supported on the Honor 5x. However, users (including myself) do see a huge difference in using a 2Amp charger, such as the Anker Chargers.
There is definitely a different while using the 2A charger. I used this Sunday, borrowed from one of my friend, and was able to charge from 16% at 10.16 AM to 100% 12.15 PM (less than 2 hours)

well it takes almost 3 hours with stock charger for most of the users on honor 5x unless they use 2A charger
It takes 2hr with stock charger (for me) and I am happy with it
2hrs top with stock charger,
using samsung 2A charger made no difference.
bt while using the phone and doing heavy tasks while charging then 2A charger does better that the stock one.
The charger which Im using is the stock charger which came with the box. Its a 2A charger.
It takes 2 hrs for me to charge from 5% to 100% by 2 hours.
Hope so everyone is having same kind of charger as I have.

I enquired on this, that Amazon has mentioned on site for 2A charging, to Amazon when I purchased in Feb, and they had this checked from Seller and Manufacturer both and confirmed they are providing only 1A charger but Honor 5X supports 2A charging. you must be lucky to get 2A

I bought mine from AliExpress.
I too ordered mine from AliExpress - with the 27W wall plug bundle
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ori...381.html?spm=a2g0s.9042311.0.0.12f44c4dJnoFeC
Question: did you buy the bundle (~30 euros) or just the wireless charger? (~20 euros)
I wonder if I can use the stock 18W charger to power the wireless charger and still get the 20W wireless charging...
Does anyone know if you need a specific power adapter to use the wireless charger?

How do you want to get 20W on the wireless pad using a 18W socket?? If you use the 18W adapter you will just limit the pad to 18w too.
You must buy the bundle (27w power adapter + 20w pad). You can use the 27W adapter directly using usb cable to get full dash charge, or use it on the 20w wireless pad

Because there are watts, amperes and volts.
I just read the product description and saw that:
Input: 12 Vdc, 1.35 A or 20 V, 1.35 A for QuickCharge
Given that the charger that comes with Mi 9 (MDY-08-EI) delivers a max of 12V / 1.5A, the answer to my question is no, it won't work - not at max quick charge capacity at least.
Hard to see point of wireless charger really. Seems to me its better to have a cord, you can use the phone lol . On the wireless charger, phone have to sits there.
I like wireless in the car for example.

that's why order with adapter from ali for just 10$ extra. Otherwise it's a turd. Try find standalone QC4+ cable charger for this price locally. Worth it.
Your performance is ok, 18W QC2+ chargers were always used to power up 'fast charge' wireless stations in order to produce such output (10W).
in order to product 20W wireless, you need not 20W adapter, but 27W QC4+ adapter as there's lot of loss.
Wireless chargers (i have all types):
*5W: require basic hispeed charger (rated usually 5Vx2A=10W)
*7.5W: iphone stuff, who cares, requires QC2+ charger (18W)
*10W: requires QC2+ charger (18W)
*15W: forgotten generation (although some Huawei customs exist), remember people were waiting for samsungs to upgrade the speed for years but since S7 nothing happened
*20W: upcoming generation, requires QC4+ charger (27W), hope it will be official qualcomm format so we can use the charger for another devices..so far it's not specified in Qi

It's not fast as such, but I really don't mind. I pop it on when going to sleep and wake up fully charged, so fulfills it's purpose! Plus I like the stand more than just a pad (and it's silent )

Alternative 30W Chargers?

Any recommendations for an alternative 30W wall charger (confirmed working with the Rog Phone 2) that's cheaper than the $50 official charger?
Search this on Amazon. Works great for about $35!
Anker 30W PIQ 3.0 & GaN Tech Power Delivery USB C Charger, PowerPort Atom III Slim Compact Type-C Charger for iPhone 11/11 Pro / 11 Pro Max/XR/XS/Max, Galaxy, Pixel, MacBook and More
Does any USB PD charger work at the full 30W (provided it can give the right juice)
I believe so. how many volts is it charging at to get that 30 watts? 3amps at 10 volts?
I am not sure if my pixelbook charger is charging at the maximum 30 watts

Honestly, I think only the note 10+ 45w charger can support the hypercharge because the 30w charger is 10v 3a at peak. Soooo most chargers with PD 3.0 scales 5v 3a 9v 3a 12 3a 15v 3a 20v 2a. Note 10+ 45w peaks at 10v 4.5a so most likely that's the only charger you can buy as a alternative.

Anyone from india tried the 30w charger?
Rog 2 has just been released officially in india as well. Went out of stock in 10minutes.
Can anyone send me a photo of their phone while HyperCharging with the 30W charger? Like the battery icon and the lock screen?
When I plug in with a crappy charger, you just get the usual lightning bolt on the battery icon. If you plug in to a standard fast charger, you get a Lightning Bolt with a "+" above it. And when you charge with a USB PD charger (I'm using an Anker) it has two "+" above it like "++", it doesn't say "HyperCharge" or whatever on lock screen though, unlike OnePlus which says "Warp Charging" on the lock screen
I can't find any other charger that does the 10v 3amp that the asus one does. But I think with my quick charge 4 charger, its charging at 27 watts = 9v 3amps
I don't have a charger that does 10 volts though.

Yes, if you have proprietary 30W ROG charger you will see "Hypercharge" text above fingerprint sensor in lockscreen state and additional thunderbolt sign next to battery icon in status bar... No more "+" or "++".

I think you wont find any 3rd party charger that support asus hypercharge, at least for now... I bought 45w BASEUS charger that support QC 4 and PD 3 but it didnt work... I bought again 2 different C to C cable but still didnt work either.. And i end up buying the 30w ROG charger, and with any C to C cable i got hypercharge working.... Fyi, the phone will only charged at 25watt wheres th 5watt remain will be used to power up attached accessories like aero fan cooler.
How long charging your Baseus ?
Any luck on finding a Hypercharge Charger yet?
Guys for 3 watts, it's totally not worth it. 27 watts is more than enough. The difference would be minimal if not noticeable. Save your money and don't fall for the marketing of "Hypercharge" numbers don't lie.
If you have the Asus 30 Watt charger, great.
If you don't, grab any other charger that can do 27 watts or more if the price is right.
I have ordered the below linked charger and cable from AliExpress, will share the charging results once i receive them...

That looks like a quick charge 3.0 charger.
QC3 only goes up to 18 watts
Tried another charger
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B079FW6B7G/ref=ya_aw_od_pi?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Got up to 15.4W this time but still no hyper charging, just "++". The 18W Asus is still the best I got with over 16W output. I'm not giving up though.
Testing another tomorrow lol

Please let me know how the chargers performs, ty!

Found a 3rd party multi-port charger that supports SuperFast Charging on S20 Ultra

I know there don't seem to be a lot of 3rd party chargers that are capable of "Super Fast Charging" on the S20, but just wanted to drop a quick note that I found one.
I travel (well usually..) a bit, and try to consolidate my chargers a bit so I'm always on the lookout for decent multi-port adapters. As everyone knows, there are a ton of high powered adapters out there that you would hope give us the juice, but if you have read a bit - Samsung not only requires a PD port, but also PPS - and there aren't a whole of lot of adapters that support them.
I was hoping to pick a new adapter up to try and keep my Surface Go and S20 Ultra charged up, and not be a huge brick and came across this 65W 3-port bad boy: https://amzn.to/2L5d2uf from a company called Baseus. I have a couple of cables from them and they also seem to be popular on Aliepxress as well as Amazon, so decided to give it a try.
Got it in last night and paired it with a new USB 3.1 Gen 2 100W cable that I also just picked up, and lo and behold - I plugged that sucker in and "SUPER FAST CHARGING 2.0" popped up on the screen when using the top USB - C port.
Interestingly enough the second power only registered "SUPER FAST CHARGING" (no 2.0) and the USB-A QC port registered as "FAST CHARGING." Reading through the documentation it's because the first port can give the whole 65W, the second tops at 30W, and of course USB-A is limited. I guess that makes sense since Super Fast 2.0 is 45W with the Samsung OEM charger.
Bottom line, if you are looking for a 3rd party multiport that supports the max charging on the S20 (and I assume Note 10) - this one does the trick. I got mine on Amazon (they had US stock so came relatively quick) - but if you are willing to wait, can probably pick it up on Aliexpress or other source for cheaper.
I bought it for my laptop 4 months ago now its the only charger I use .

Nice! -- my primary use was for my Surface, and I didn't think I'd get the highest charge with the S20U, but was a pleasant surprise.
I got an Ugreen USB C Charger 36W with 2 Type C ports that works as a Super Fast Charger

You can use any PPS PD charger like baseus 65W on aliexpress but super fast 2 will not be real.
Many chargers trigger Super Fast Charging 2.0 but before You will celebrate, please run battery charging monitor from play store. It will draw a charging curve. Almost all non samsung chargers will oscilate. You wil see around 6000ma and after 2-3s it will drop to 500, and again and again.
This can damage your device, and will take a long time to charge

Thanks for the heads up. I ran the app for a few minutes on the BaseUS charger and didn't see any of the dramatic dips as you mentioned above - so I'm hoping that's a good thing. Looks like a pretty consistent curve.

The charging current you are getting is not Super Fast Charging 2.0 even though it says so in your notification bar. This is mine with Super Fast Charging 2.0 using the Samsung charger and cable. Battery Charging Monitor will report a higher charging current.
Also wanted to add that the Xiaomi Powerbank 3 Pro with USB PD will charge the S20 Ultra at Super Fast Charging 2.0 and at 5A with the supplied samsung cable. And aftermarket Baseus USB C cable only gives 3A.

Interesting -- well, I guess my takeaway is that it isn't TRUE 2.0 super fast - but also it hopefully won't fry my battery! (i.e. not as fast as I'd like, but at least not going to damage the battery).

I tried my test with a couple of 100W-rated USB 3.1 gen 2 cables - so it definitely wasn't the cables. But goes to show that cables are an important part of the equation too!
SFC 2.0 require e-marked cables to work, as well as compatible pps charger.
IMHO the best option is to get 45w samsung charger. Other brands are hit or miss.

General Best Charger 25W PPS - FOUND IT

The day 1 when I charged my google pixel 6, I had my heart stopped because while going to sleep I connected the charger and when I woke up the battery went down from 44% to 33% showing "connected, not charging" I thought this is it.
But then through out the whole day I was going through tonnes of videos and posts which confirmed one thing for sure that Google Pixel 6 doesn't go more than 22W on PPS charger. Finally fingers crossed I was going to spend on Anker 65W but then came across Belkin 25W Boost Wall Charger with PPS. My goodness the charger does what it does, charges 50% in 30 minutes and remaining reaching slowly in another 45 minutes which is enough and sounds safe to me.
I am posting this because many look around the internet for solutions like me, if I can contribute a little.
Amazon.com
It's very ironic. I was initially going to buy the official Google charger for the 30W despite already having a 20W one. I just bought another 20W charger in the Anker Nano one which also serves me perfectly fine as 20W is good enough; don't need the extra 2-3W ^^
Ayyyy! Snagged one too! It was half off bringing it down to $10!
For those in the UK the Belkin 25W Boost Wall Charger is currently reduced to £12.99 on Amazon.
Received the charger and it is as advertised. It peaked at around 25W and then settled at around 22.5W. Something to note is that the longer Anker cable I used to use drops it down to around 8.7W so the cable matters a lot.

I found a charger, more like power supply, that it gives constant 3a
Xfinity EPS-10
not sure if it will damage the battery though, I tried once and it charged it pretty fast... Someone can input something about this?

Did it charge at the same rate all the way to 100%?

It did. 2900+ ma constant.
It's a power supply for a xfinity box. They are not even expensive, like 15 bucks.
I was reading about chargers and power supply which the power supply is always the same but chargers have temperature sensors? Maybe was about something else....
I may be mistaken

Constant 3A means nothing. You're maxing out at 15W since it's not PPS. Higher current is not a good indicator.
Testing random power bricks is pointless unless you know it supports PPS.
A PPS charger can fluctuate between 1-4 amps and have a constantly adjusting voltage to maximize power output.
With a Baseus gan 2 65w charger I constantly see more than 20w charging except the percentage is high. I think this one has pd3 which supports PPS.
Do not trust Franco readings. Get an inline meter if you need absolute certainty.
You could very well be hitting those speeds since the charger looks to be compatible.

Understood.
Still, it got from 0 to 65% in like 40 minutes then I disconnected because I had to leave.. As soon as I receive mine, I'll do some stats and post them here.
I thought PPS chargers have a 3a max and is not constant, it goes up and down, depending on the battery itself.
The more amps that pulls, the faster it charges... Or am I wrong?
It's not correct. Power is current multiplied by voltage.
3A at 1V is only 3W. PD is usually 5V or 9V.
Google's can do 1.5A at 20V to reach 30W for supported devices.
For me, the more amps that pull the faster it charges... Voltage don't mean anything.
Voltage have great effect. Power is electrical current (amperes) multiplied by voltage (volts). For example 1 ampere at 5 volts is just 5 watts but same 1 ampere at 20 volts is 20 watts which is much higher. Different charging technologies have different approaches to send maximum power from charger to the phone but generally most use higher voltage to transfer power above 10 W because most usb cables do not support more than 2 to 3 A of current. Before charging the battery itself phone converts back the high voltage to low voltage suitable for the battery (usually between 3.5 and 4 volts). If you are looking at software programs like aida 64 or ampere - they read the current at this stage so this is why more current at that level means faster charging because the voltage is already reduced to what is needed by the battery. Generally you have something like this:
1. Phone and charger negotiate needed power and they way it will be achieved based on the capabilities of the charger, phone and cable connecting them. Let's say that they agree for 20W which is 10 V with 2 A current.
2. Charger transforms 220 V AC to 10 V DC and phone starts drawing 2A of power.
3. Internally in the phone voltage is transformed from 10 V to 4 V which causes current to rise to 5 A which are fed to the battery.
Here is a great analogy showing the relation between voltage, current, power and resistance using something as simple as water hose.

My 10ft type c to type c cable doesn't charge any slower than the supplied cable. However it is worth noting that anyone using a type a to type c will be limited to 15w.

It shouldn't damage it as charging is controlled by the SoC.
