Question Weird spen issue on search bar etc - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Hi guys I have what appears to be an unusual issue and not sure if it's my phone or this is how the spen is now supposed to work. Whenever I hit for instance the Google search bar or open the message app and attempt to type using the spen I get no response, until I touch the screen where I need to type with my finger first, then I can use the spen. Surely this isn't the way it's supposed to be?. Also could it be an issue with the spen and using gboard?. I also uninstalled the default Samsung keyboard could this also be an issue?

How to stop Samsung virtual keyboard from popping up when using..

Any suggestions on how to stop Samsung virtual keyboard from popping up when using Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 keyboard dock?
The only idea I have seen so far is to use Titanium to delete the stock Galaxy Tab 10.1 keyboard?
Thanks!
Surely you could freeze it using titanium backup rather then uninstall it completely

Thank you for your reply.
I have never used Titanium and never rooted a device.
I guess it must be time to try both
what rom are you using? It shouldn't pop up at all if you are using the samsung keyboard.
As ezcats said, it shouldn't pop up all the time... The first time I used mine, it did, but just push the key on the physical keyboard to bring down the on-screen keyboard and shouldn't pop up anymore. It doesn't on the Canadian stock 3.2 anyway.

Every time I touch the screen, the virtual keyboard pops up. Is there anyway to stop this from happening when using the keyboard dock?
I'm using the galaxy note 10.1, but this was a thread I found in my google search. I figure the same would apply.

I had the same issue and found a work around from another member. Go to the play store and install the 'Null Keyboard' app.
When you first drop the Tab in to the keyboard, you will get a message about the device will be using the default on screen keyboard. After acknowledging the message, press the keyboard key on the physical keyboard. Then touch the keyboard icon at the bottom of the screen and select 'Null Keyboard'. Done, no more on screen keyboard when touching an input field on the screen.
The only downside is that you will have to go through this process every time putting the Tab in the keyboard dock.
If this helps, click my Thanks button :good:

CM9 Double Keyboard problem

Whats up everyone ok here is my problem.
When I click in a text box, the onscreen keyboard pops up even when I have the dock attached. Is there a fix for this?
Previous versions of Cyanogenmod had the swipe option (NOT on the lockscreen) to open programs. For example, I could swipe up to open the browser or swipe down to open Facebook. Does this option exist or has it been omitted in CM9?
I use my Prime for work and do allot of typing so this got very annoying very fast I have to constantly be taking down the on screen keyboard.
The last thing I noticed the screen doesnt orient to the portait mode.
I have posted in the Cyanogen Mod Forum two weeks ago and have yet to get a reply so I figured I would post here to try and get some answers. I really dont understand why none of the mods or anyone else have not posted any replys what so ever the forum look like its dead.

Install Null Keyboard if you don't want to see the onscreen keyboard while the dock is attached.

Thanks that finally worked but one thing I dont like about the app it has a warning when you turn it on saying that it will collect all data entered in the keyboard.
I also posted on here to see if anyone had any idea of any updates from CM9 to fix this and also wanted to know about the swipe which CM usually was putting into their roms thanks.

Predictive text after 4.1.2 upgrade.

As title suggests, I updated my phone yesterday. Now, when typing, if I spell something wrong, instead of changing automatically when I press space, it doesnt change the word, even though its highlighted blue. Is this a bug or feature and its very annoying ane may force me to flash back to older version. I cant see any options in the settings menu like before, just new options to sync spelling with facebook and Twitter etc... thanks for help.
Works fine for me
There are no more options anymore in settings for predictive text. You use to be able to edit your own words and specific predictive text data but your cant edit anything now so unsure what to do. Im sure I have read else where others having the same problems?
mine is also doin the same thing. Also noticed it no longer gives you the option to change the full stop to something else without holding
gotta be a bug. why highlight in blue if it no longer has a function anything? This is going to be very annoying.
It's what made me stop using the Samsung keyboard, prediction only seems to work when you use continuous input (swype) but even with that enabled, if you tap out each letter it will not work.
Glad its not just me anyway!
Meh, Android 4.2 keyboard rocks
I like the the way the keyboard behaves now. I can type my words without the auto correcting putting in the wrong words for me inadvertently and not having problems putting in words the the prediction doesn't know about.
I will also confirm that after updating to 4.1.2 stock - the auto-correct/predictive text system in the stock samsung keyboard seems to be no longer functioning correctly.
When typing the words are highlighted in blue however upon hitting space the word isn't corrected

+1. That's the main reason I now use Samsung keyboard. If I want it to auto correct I just select on the word.

never bothered with stock Android keyboards or Samsung's effort at "continuous text input" (well I gave it 5 minutes and kicked it into touch).
There is only one keyboard for continuous text input, and why would you want to tap letters individually any way? - its called Swype...its an absolute MUST.
google it, go to website and download swype beta installer
You guys are right, auto correct has been disabled in 4.1.2. I'm really hoping it's re enabled for the next release because I've never been a fan of aftermarket keyboards. I prefer the stock one. I would downgrade to 4.1.1 but I was getting some bugs on that which have been fixed on 4.1.2. Let's all hope it's re enabled for us!
Same problem here and I hate it. I've now switched to SwiftKey because of it.

Same here. VERY ANNOYING! Why change something fundamental on the keyboard in this way? It's awful.
Regardless of what your keyboard preference is, you become accustomed to using it and it's ways until you can almost type blindfolded. Making changes like this just bugs the hell out of me!
Response from Samsung support in 2 hours :good:
I think I'll be trying Swift Key...

Thank you for contacting Samsung.
I am sorry to hear that you do not like the features on the keypad since the latest update and i can understand it is frustrating.
Regarding your query this is a limitation of the new android version your running. However we always look forward to hearing customer feedback and comments.

did switching over fix your problem??
what other keyboards out there can help fix this bug until next patch?

Samsung keyboard case

I have purchased together with the s3 the original keyboard case, which was around $130.
Most of the times is a convenient accessory to use, especially if you type a lot. I have one annoying issue though. Sometimes, when i pressbthe space button, it changes keyboard languages instead, which is a physical button on the keyboard itself just next tonthe space button. It doesn't matter jow hard you press the space (initially i thought i apply to much pressure on the key and somehow accidentally pressing the other key). It seems the only way to fix it is to unpin the keyboard and connect it back again ( which is annoying cause it takes some time and effort, it turns off the screen etc.).
Did anyone faced similar issues?

This is caused by you typing too quickly (and no I'm not joking)
There is a keyboard shortcut to change language which is Shift-Space.
so if I want a capital letter, then type a space, I end up typing SHIFT-SPACE and getting the same language issue.
I've not found a way of disabling or changing the shortcuts.

It is not that. Many people around having issues. Many times it just changes the cursor position. Samsung actually is aware of this issue.

Is there a link to a page within Samsung that I can periodically check to see when this issue is addressed? (or some equivalent forum thread within Samsung XDA or elsewhere?

Samsung keyboard case issues

I am trying to use the keyboard case for a lot of text entry, but I find that sometimes it will playup. it will still allow text entry, but when I press the space bar it will skip back to the beginning of the current word before entering the space.
has anybody seen this issue?

Welcome to my world. This seems to be a widely spread issue. It is not clear whether it is cover's issue or the tablet itself. I have sent my cover for replacement, hoping it will fix the problem. However, i do believe that it has to do with the tablet itself. Probably the connector. Try to take to service center if you can. My problem is i have to send it all the way to USA and i am in Europe

Same issue here, hopefully they come up with a fix soon.

I've that issue, too. I found that it has s/th to do with the language settings. If you write a correct spelled word all is ok. If you have spelling mistakes the cursor jumps to the beginning of the wrong written word.
Unfortunately I've no time to discover this further.
Hope s/o comes up with a solution to prevent this annoying behavior.
Do you all use a different software keyboard than the stock Samsung one? I use Swype, and when I connect the keyboard, it acts strangely until I switch it to the Samsung keyboard (search+space on hardware keyboard).

I logged a problem with Samsung. It is a bug in their stock keyboard which you need to use for s-pen functions. They don't seem to be planning to do anything to fix the issue. Using an alternate soft keyboard for when an external keyboard is in use was my only solution
Make sure you all formally lodge the problem with Samsung support.

Ok.. So I downloaded swiftkey app but the problem now is that for some reason I wasn't able to add two languages under this keyboard app for the physical keyboard settings.
Under the physical keyboard settings in samsung I have now 3 languages:
1. samsung keyboard - Hebrew
2. samsung keyboard - English
3. Swiftkey - Hebrew
I want to add Swiftkey - English but wasn't able to do so...
anyone who is using swiftkey with two languages and with physical keyboard?
Nowadays you can see technology will upgrade day by day. If you have this keyboard problem on your tablet, then you should try latest OSU tablet for your work.
