Question Whats the cut out south of the power button? - Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra

Down from the power button on the phone there is what I can best describe as a cutout? It is bugging me not know WTF it is.

Can you make a pic what you mean? I do not have any cut out on my but maybe you mean the antennas?

Embarassing move, I grabbed the phone to take a pic of it before realizing its my only camera. Let me see if I can find one online

Doesn't feel different than the rest of the side, other than the small lip from it being a hole in the frame

Its the mmWave antenna.

thank you! @YoungSkeezy

I don't seem to have it or I can't see it. Model SM-S918B/DS

I do not have such thing at all... Maybe it is region depended.... I'm from europe and i do not have this mmWave antenna cutout.

This is not Samsung's fault. DIfferent regions use different kinds of 5G frequencies, so there is no use to put the hardware in the phone.

Exactly. The only other country to implement mmWave 5G is Spain. Canada will be following in 2025, but until then, it's useless unless you frequently travel to a country with mmWave (and even then mid-low band 5G is way more prevalent anyways).

Yes I can confirm I'm in the USA and I do have that same cutout. Which I noticed yesterday after almost two.weeks.of having the devices

I noticed it right away and according to teardown vids, it's the mmWave for 5G here in the US.

This is the 5G mmwave antenna in USA & Canadian models , not on the rest of the world device

[Q] HTC thunderbolt on AT&T

I don't know if this question has been asked before, but is it possible to unlock the Thunderbolt to work on the AT&T network? I recently got a Thunderbolt from my friend who is on the verizon network, but I'm on the AT&T network, I would like to use this phone on AT&T, I love this phone too much.
No you can't because Verizon uses CDMA, AT&T uses GSM.

and just to clarify...the sims are completely different sizes/shapes to one another
Sell it and get yourself an Inspire, the closest you will get to a Thunderbolt on AT&T right now

Actually the sim's are the same size, I put the AT&T sim into it and its the same size.
I just wasn't sure if it was possible, there are a lot of Unlocking sites that claim to be able to unlock it using the IMEI number. So Im guessing its fake and that there is no way to unlock it.

It can be unlocked to use on another CDMA x LTE provider, such as Metro PCS.
I was thinking they made the switch over to the micro ones... sorry i stand corrected on size
yeah, you can stick the sim in there all you want but it isn't going to convert an LTE or CDMA radio into a GSM radio with AT&T bands.

Is the international version sgs iii 3g only?

So if I'm reading your chart correctly, the international version is not capable of working with any kind of 4g. ? I'm hoping this is the case as I bought one and in order for it to work on my companies plan it needs to be a 3g phone only

Yes. Correct.
There is an upgraded version of this phone, with Double the ram and 4G, but that is the I9305.

Perfect thanks. I have a company issued at&t blackberry curve 3g that I removed the Sim out of and use in my captivate. tried to upgrade that to the infuse long while back but found out it would not work because it was 4g .Long story short, my company would not update my plan to 4g to allow the infuse to work as my company doesn't authorize the use of Android devices. Did some research on international versions and figure I would try one more time. Hope it works out I have a 500 dollar paperweight again that I gave to try and sell and will be back to being stuck with my captivate. Not that that's a bad thing.

not like many carriers have passed 21mbps , or people really need more than that. they data plans are capped
This is why they haven't released jellybean yet

Well the S3 phone came in today. Now I am just waiting for the Sim card cutter to come so I can out my captivate Sim in it and find out if I have data

6802 owners with ATT...which APN settings work good for you?

I have been having issues lately with it. Like my test messages images wont send but if I use my Wife's Note 4 APN settings it will work then some days it stops working so I have to go back to my previous APN settings which is not that good.
Can you share yours?

Don't edit my post.
All AT&T data plans are LTE plans, it makes no difference whether the device is capable or not. @shaolin95, I'll post my APN details when I get home from work.
Here's as promised the APNs from my C6806, first up AT&T LTE

When you flash cm12 based roms do you lose LTE
I have not had Stock Lollipop as a daily driver due to the bootloops that Xposed causes with the amount of apps that I have on my phone, and I've tried every custom Lollipop ROM made available here, never lost LTE.

I don't get bootloop with xposed never not once. Which version you use? But when I flash cm 12 I lose my lte icon. I think I have the speed still. I'll take screen shots. Do you use APN cm provides?

Will we EVER get root for ATT Gear S

It's been two years already. Most people are enjoying CM12 on their gear s and others are still looking for root on the att version. Anyone working on this?

I very much doubt it since the one that is able to be rooted only has one developer. Unless some new dev faces show up in here.

You could always do what I did and sell the At&t version to buy the Tmobile version. Then just buy the sim unlock code on ebay for a few bucks, pop in your At&t sim. Wash, rinse, repeat...

Yeah, I should just go ahead and do that. I'm playing with the k9 smart watch, full android right now. Nice watch but small keyboard.

I've been looking at that K9 also. Like I need another smart watch. I already have 9 others, but the pursuit of perfection is fun. Does the K9 actually have true 1900mhz 3G in the US like another poster stated?

Would you mind installing the speedtest.net app and running a test? If you are getting 3G speeds with AT&T then it should work the same with Tmobile. I'm just confused because the specs on the Gearbest site say that its frequency is: GSM 850/900/1800/1900MHz WCDMA 850/2100MHz. Which would mean that it gets the pokey slow 2G edge speeds in the US. As far as I know the WCDMA needs to be 1900MHz for it to work with US 3G/4G networks.
Right now the watches are on the way to Maryland. I dropshipped them from everbuying to a customer on ebay. The customer said they didn't work so I had them shipped to me and it turned out their tmobile Sims weren't activated. I used my att Sim from my gears and it said 3g. I don't know about speed but I do have a picture of it showing 3g. When the customer gets them I'll have them do speed test and I'll report on here.

What the watches actually look like. I'll post the 3g pic when the customer sends it back to me. Think I accidently deleted it.

LTE bands in Chinese version

I'd like to know for certain what LTE bands the M5 8.4" version sold in China, has, without relying on information Chinese sellers publish on their online portals or Aliexpress. So this is just a request for a picture. If anyone gets their hands on Chinese M5 8.4" version - please take a picture of page 8 from Quick Start Guide (enabled LTE bands are listed on that page) and attach it here. TIA.
I am in china on business. I wanted this too if it could work on att. I will try to stop by a store today and check for the both of us

Saw this a bit late. I already got the answer, and the M5 from China, Their version supports all LTE bands, used by AT&T and T-Mobile, besides band 2. LTE works fine - I posted speed test screenshots in another thread.

I am home in NY and I'm getting 33 down and 12 up on 4g. I don't know why it doesn't say lte. Also I can't use voice typing function with Gboard. Problems for another day I guess.
---------- Post added at 04:59 AM ---------- Previous post was at 04:45 AM ----------
Gboard is being finicky sometimes it works and sometimes it says voice search is not supported on this device.
Are there any content restrictions downloading movies on netflix, amazon, etc because its recognized as a Chinese device?
