Hey guys.
Ist there a way to activate notifications (google calendar reminders) based on location ?
Let's say I wanna make sure I lock my car, when I get close to home or my office I'll get a notification "close car"...
Only thing I see on Google is to use Google keep, but since I wanna do this with daily tasks google calendars task or reminders are ideal...
Would love not to use a third party app

Use Routines and Modes....in Settings.
Go to Settings.
Goto Modes and Routines.
Tap the + icon.
Tap the + under if.
Tap Place.
Choose either Arrive....or leave.
Choose your location.
Save.
Then the + under Then.
Tap Notifications.
Tap show Custom notification.
Give the notification a title.
Write whatever you wish.
You can even have it read this notification out.
Modes and Routines is very good...and you can use it to do almost anything on your phone.
It will open calender...but my instructions were to give you a notification on reaching your home location....because that would be better than opening a calender for that purpose.

Ive been using the GoSMS scheduled SMS - and sending texts to myself to act as a reminder with the pop-up notifications.
Works pretty well, but it is a bit of a hassle going through the process of setting up the scheduled text.
I recently discovered COL Reminder, which does do exactly as i want - but the UI isn't as stylish as i would like.
Any.DO is pretty good too, using the task list and having pop-up reminders when set.
Does anyone know of any other reminder apps which have pop-up notifications (rather than just the status bar icon notification)?
Appreciate any input.
If you don't mind having to involve a PC, Google Calendar supports SMS notification. But this is only settable from the web based interface. Too bad Google's so lax with the Android frontend--one gripe of mine is that you can't even book a bi-weekly meeting without the web-based version.
I digress...hope this helps and good luck.

Business Calendar Free is a good app to use as a to-do list and set reminders.
thanks for the replies guys,
cttttt - it is handy to know that Google Calendar can alert my by sending texts, though im afraid it is a little impractical for what i require.
muqtaliff - i have played around with business calendar in the past. but havent found away to enable pop-up notifications for reminders. how can this be done?
thanks again fellas.
In Business Calendar, go to settings, scroll down "Settings for New Events" and choose the Default Reminder Time (On Time/5 Minutes etc). Save the settings and test it out with an entry.
I use Tasks N Todos. Supports Notification Bar pop-ups, ringtone, and vibration reminders. Also syncs with Google Tasks.
Astrid Tasks is also pretty good.
but i am guessing with some addons u can give yourself location based reminders too..
Hey guys,
Im afraid i mustn't have made myself clear when describing what i am looking for... when i say "pop-up" reminder notification, i mean a notification which appears as a "pop-up" on the screen, not just an icon in the status bar.
Ive attached a couple of screen shots from Any.DO and COL Reminders to illustrate the feature.
Cheers.
Popup Notifier
Hey guys,
for anyone still interested, i have found a pretty useful app which does serve my purposes.
Let me just give you a little background as to why this is useful to me.
I have a few ways that I manage 'to do' type lists on my phone....
- I use Springpad to manage shopping lists. These are short term to-do lists which require no reminders but can be viewed and edited when the shopping is done.
- Any.Do is how i manage my long term to do list (synced with Google Tasks). I use these 'tasks' more like long-term notes. If someone recommends a band or album to me, i'll note in in Any.Do. If i have an idea for some art, i'll note in in Any.Do. These tasks/notes also do not require reminders.
Now... the one thing I had been missing (kind-of) was the ability to set short & long term reminders which gave me a pop-up notification. For things like "call mum on her birthday", "buy concert tickets when they go on sale", "put the bins out", etc. You would think that for tasks like this - it would be as easy as creating an 'appointment' in Google calendar and having a reminder set... this is only half true. Creating an appointment and setting a reminder is the easy part - sometimes actually being reminded by that reminder is not so easy. The way i see it, the little notification icon in the status bar is not sufficient as a reminder. These icons can easily queue up, and the status bar is normally pretty cluttered with other icons. So if you're anything like me - you don't pay too much attention to the status bar. The feature that is missing, is the ability to have an on-screen pop-up notification to remind us of all these 'appointments' we need to keep.
This is where Popup Notifier comes in. It is a pretty simple idea, which is very well implemented. This app will allow you to enable pop-up notifications for a variety of apps which may need them (SMS, Missed Calls, CALENDAR, etc).
So with this addon app, we can now create reminders through our calendar apps, and we will be notified of these reminders with not-so-easily-ignored pop-up windows.
Hopefully this will help a few peeps who share my reminder-related sentiments.
I look forward to hearing feedback and opinions of other peoples experiences.
cheers.
Reminder
Well, I recommend to Mr. Reminder Application for android users that can set for any reminding any event/occasion/day/date.
1. calendar notifications on weekend for work calendar - I dont want my work calendar to send notifications. Also I dont want notifications during nighttime. Is there any way to control this in stock calendar app? some other calendar app?
2. When bunch of notifications appear, how can I say, remove all notifications? (After I have reflashed a new ROM and resurrected 50 apps using TB .. I would like to get rid of all those notifications ..)
Thanks
1) you can set work email to not sync or not have any default reminders. I know on the Google calendar, you can disable notification(but it'll to apply for alldevices the calendars is syncing to
some Roms, youcan set profiles to disable alerts. custom apps like tasker cando it too
2) there should be a clear button on the drop down notifications bar

I do need work calendar (exchange) synced and only give reminders during work hours
I want google calendar (personal) to give reminders during weekend hours
No reminders during night-time. Its no fun to wake up at 3 am .. because someone set their reminder 10 hours before actual meeting
I will look into tasker

Thanks! I should have seen it!!
Another thing I tried and worked -> swipe the notification away. (not useful to clear all, but to clear one by one)

I found an app that works perfectly for my needs. Timerific. Its free and easy to use.
guys
I cannot find a setting to change this and it's getting very annoying. I have my corporate mail events & google calendar events and both pop up on my phone. This behavior is only with google events - when I get the event, I simply press the home button and it stays in my taskbar and doesn't bother. However, every 15-20 mins, there is a sound from the phone. Any setting to fix this? I simply want it to stay in taskbar without bothering me
Thank you!
Hi all. I've seen a few posts around this, but not asking the same questions I have. I'm new to the Mate 10 Pro but I've used a long list of other Android phones. This MIUI is really starting to bother me.
One of the issues I have not been able to overcome is around customizing sound notifications. I'm not a fan of the default Huawei Messaging app, the Mail app, or the Calendar app. I attempted to switch back to Google apps for all f these, but I immediately found issues.
When using the Huawei Calendar app, my shared calendars were not being shown and were not listed in the available calendars to show. I installed the Google Calendar app and was able to go in and select them. At that point, all my shared calendars showed in both apps. I uninstalled the Google Calendar (thinking I just couldn't find the setting in the Huawei app), but then my shared calendars disappeared from the Huawei app. I installed the Google Calendar, and had to go in and select the shared calendars again, in order to get them to show. So now I am using the Google Calendar, but I set a notification for appointment reminders, and it still defaults to the default sound. If I go into the Huawei app, I can see my custom sound, but if I go into the Google Calendar, the option to set a custom sound is not available (not greyed out, just missing). My other Oreo phone running straight Android has the option.
On the Huawei Messaging app, I found I didn't care for the look/feel, so I switched back to the Google app. However, it has the same issue as the Google Calendar app. I go in to set a custom notification sound, and the option is missing. Again, it's not just grayed out, it's not there.
I was able to use the Gmail app and set my custom notification sounds for each mail account, so I know it's possible with SOME third-party apps, just not all.
I had set my theme to use a darker color, but inside the Google apps, they still default to the white colors, so this gave a little bit of a hint. If I go into the Google Calendar app (very white interface despite my theme settings), click the hamburger bars in the top-left, go to Settings, click General, scroll down to Notifications (Notify on this device is ON), click Calendar notifications, I get sent to the Huawei Notifications Management page for the Google Calendar app (dark theme, matching the rest of my Huawei theme). I can enable the Ringtone notification, but I cannot customize it. On or off, that's it. It's the same thing in the Google Calendar app.
Am I missing something here?
I don't think so. I just noticed this myself. Huawei's implementation of Oreo seems to have dropped the ability to customize your sound choice in the notification channels each app presents. You can turn the ringtone on or off, but not change the sound. Major-league fail on their part.
I'm glad it's not just me, this was driving me crazy. I'd agree, big miss on Huawei's part. Hopefully it'll be fixed in a coming update.
I wouldn't count on it. I've seen threads about it dating back to November. I'm using a third party app (eNotify) to customise my SMS notifications.
Hi, I understand that it may sound lame but this notification is driving me crazy.
I was googling a lot but still don't understand why I am getting it few times a day.
Looks like this is something called weather tomorrow from Google.
I disabled everything I cloud found in Google settings and in Google assist that correlate to weather but still nothing.
Any idea how to stop it?
It could also be linked to chrome news/weather feed.
Have you tried disabling it by swiping the notification itself to the left and press the settings button?

That was already disabled, however I found one more that was still enabled - daily weather forecast
I disabled it now and will see how it goes.
Thanks everyone.
FYI I no longer receive this notification. Thanks everyone.
