UPDATE (11-JUN-2023):
sim-unlock.net is SCAM
A member here at xda advised me to try sim-unlock.net as he used their services many times before.
Long story short, I paid them €42 since 2 months and they scammed me. They didn't unlock nor refund me and they stopped replying to my emails.
I advise anyone who see my post to not use this website. It's a SCAM.
------------------------------
I bought a new s23 ultra from ebay but it's locked to Spectrum. I live in Ireland so I can't buy a spectrum sim and use it for 60 days so that spectrum would give me the unlock codes.
Do you know any *trustwothy* website that would unlock it?
Thanks
XDA doesn't allow for recommending or discussing unlock services.
OP if it was paid off in full, the seller should be able to get the unlock codes for you through Spectrum.

Unfortunately that's not always the case. I know from working for tmoible in the past that even if you paid upfront for the device before they would issue the unlock it HAD to be active on tmobile service for 45 days

Really?!! I didn't know about that. Where can I read the rules stating this?
I find that weird because unlocking is legal!
Also, I searched for similar posts before I post this and I see another post 1for a member who offer T-Mobile network unlocks :/

That's what I understand too. That I have to be on the network for 60 days.
Do you know if I can ask spectrum to sell me an esim online while I'm in Ireland to go on a 2 months bills just to get it unlocked?

Whoops I misunderstood, unlocking is legal IF the device is paid off, and since XDA doesn't want to investigate everyone who posts about it to verify they aren't using a stolen device they just outright avoid that. it's uder their piracy/warez rules

Then I believe it's fine because I just bought the device brand new and it's even still SEALED!
I don't want to unseal it till I get this unlocking process settled.

They can call and request a temporary unlock for travel. Have the seller call Spectrum and request a temporary unlock and say that they are travelling to Ireland for work for 60 days.

So, I can use my non-spectrum in Ireland for the period of those 60 days?
Then what? get locked again with no excuse this time? :/
The other issue is that a vast majority of the Unlock Services out there are scams, and XDA should not support those sites, links to those sites and discussions of those sites.
It's too much of a slippery slope and, honestly, for a Mobile Dev Forum, unlocking is not a subject they should get into.
Now, i am just talking about SIM unlocking.
Spectrum will issue you an unlock code if the device is paid in full. You need to tell them you are moving it to another provider.
My roommate did it just last week.

if anyone knows of a site that will sell unlock codes online please comment. I live outside the US and want to buy this phone online but will need an unlock code.
I have already contacted some sites but they don't have an idea yet if/when they will get them
EDIT: supposedly swiftunlock.net and gsmliberty.net work, but no proof yet rather than words from users.
EDIT: pictures of atrix running under Bell operator unlocked
EDIT: most users report that cellunlock.net work, 40$ but with a 50% discount using the android50 code.
To find your IMEI, type *#06#
search“Atrix unlock" on google
Im also interested in unlock codes but please serious sites.
Hi Guys, I believe the Atrix will come unlocked. It is a world phone which I think means you will be able to insert a SIM card from over seas and it will work. Also I have heard that if you buy the phone and call ATT and tell them you are going over seas to use it they will give you the unlock code. But then again these are things that I have heard and wont be able to verify until I get my Atrix in the mail.
no phone from a carrier sells unlocked. i already tried att twitter account to get an unlock code but got a friendly no. maybe if i buy it a month later i could call att from venezuela with gmail to try and score an unlock code.
i have seen lots of sites:
mobileunlocked.co.uk supposedly sells it at 15$
unlockitnow.com supposedly has it too.
gsmliberty.net at 10$.
globalunlock.com seems serious and admitted they don't have it.
For the over seas thing to work with att you needed to have been in contract with them on that phone for 6 months or something

mobileunlocked.co.uk told me that all motorola codes are either 8 or 16 numbers and just rely on the IMEI and not the specific model.

748$ on ebay, no thanks. And sadly, with my venezuelan credit card i need to buy the phone on a site that allows me to ship to a different address than on my credit card's billing address.
That leaves only amazon i think, but i may be wrong. If people know of other sites i would like to hear about them
unlockitnow.com just answered my email saying that they are selling the unlock codes right now. don't know if they are trustworthy

This is completely incorrect. An AT&T world phone merely allows you to use the phone with an AT&T SIM outside the country at exorbitant rates.
Please don't post your guesses or misinformation, it only confuses people who are in need of help & then gets parroted elsewhere to other sites.
Ok, starting to freak out a bit here as a friend will buy the phone and bring it back to Germany for me this week; is there a risk that there might not be a way to remove the sim lock from the phone? I mean, all phones are eventually unlocked, aren't they? Even a guy at one AT&T shop I called on Saturday said that it shouldn't be a problem, just to go one of all the companies that are providing unlock keys on the web.
Don't want to be stuck with an unusable 400-500 $ brick..
according to the info i am handling motorola's phones are one of the easiest to unlock. if you are that desperate try the links i have posted and write to them.
i have posted a link on the pricing thread that lists the phone at 550$ unlocked over at mobilecityonline.com

Well...that's not quite right. Because AT&T uses GSM tech, if you can unlock the phone, you absolutely can take out the AT&T SIM and swap it for a local one. I do it all the time when I travel: I buy a (local to where I happen to be) rechargeable SIM and I pay local rates rather than getting gouged by AT&T.
You must unlock the phone to do that, though.

that site sucks. they don't have a link on the home page to buy unlocked codes, i had to go to "unlocking 101" under "wireless 101" and from there visit the "unlock for free" which tells you to call your provider after 3 months and at the end says "we sell them too", i tried the link: http://theunlockr.com/store/unlock-my-phone/ and it doesn't even load.
Anyway to unlock the Motorola atrix 4g
Im getting one sent to me (im in canada), but not sure if unlocking will be easy (via codes, etc..)
Ill donate 10$ to anyone who figures a solution
( i know galaxy S, and HTC desire HD for example had solutions where you can unlock them by simple hacks, but if someone knows a site that provides the codes, the old fashioned send IMIE number, let me now)

That thread only discusses how to get an unlock code from a third party/website charging and outrageous amount of money for something that should be free.
Personally I'd like to see the Dev's take on the unlocking rather than depending on a third party that I'd have to pay and get the rooting/unlocking procedure from them.

I called ATT and told them I travel a lot and need the phone unlocked. They told me I can get an Unlock code from them on August 22. The representative said he would give me right away, but when he typed my IMEI on the system that gives the unlock codes, a message showed that I could only get it by August 22.
At least thats something.
just called at&t to unlock for traveling over seas they said not until december.
That is true the only way you might be able to get one if you bought the device with out a discount meaning you paid full price.

I heard from several T-Mobile HTC owners that they tried to unlock it from some websites but after paying $25 they found out that those sites don't have the unlock code for the T-Mobile version of HTC.
I can't unlock it by calling T-Mobile as I'm on prepaid and I only use T-Mobile about 15 days a year when travelling through the states so I'm looking for a site that somebody has had success unlocking T-Mobile HTC One.
If you were able to get it sim unlocked, please, list the site and the cost.
I asked for the sim unlock yesterday at tmobile, they replied today.
HTC denied it because we have to wait 40 days of use first.. or pay your bill, I will call them back.
edit: its not HTC its Tmobile that denied it, they want users to use the phone for 40 days,
edit: im calling them back right now, cause I did pay it in full. they are going to put another request to HTC.

I wouldn't know if the seller had it paid in full and even if I know I can't ask T-Mobile to unlock it as I don't have a receipt. I'm in Canada and the phones price from T-mobile in US on a plan is $579+tax but I'm not on a plan, I'm on pre-paid, if you are on pre-paid, you can't buy the phone online or by calling T-mobile, if you find a store that carries them then they will tell you the full price for pre-paid customers is $650+tax but some pre-paid customers said that when they run it through the price comes out at $610+tax for pre-paid plans. When I talked to a TMO store on a couple of occasions they all said both times that I would need to pay $650+tax, not $610. Either way it's quite more than $570 that I paid on craigslist for a new phone even if I have to pay $25 to get it unlocked online.
That's not my point where I bought it from. My question for this thread was: Has anyone been able to successfully sim unlock it from those online sites? If yes, what site was it and what was the price
okay peeps... check it out, I understand why some had there unlock codes given to them..
find someone that has a T-Mobile acct, prepaid or contract, it doesn't matter, I have received my unlock codes from T-Mobile with prepaid also..
I remembered they did that to me along time ago. the reason they said I can have it at the end of the month, it will be 40 days of service on May 28.
so if you have a friend that u know who has been with T-Mobile for over 40 or more days of service in good standing, and they also have to be using the phone for at least 5 days with there sim card on the phone, they will release the unlock code.
they can tell if they have been using the phone with the existing sim. u can unlock 1 phone every 90 days.

Any suggestions?

Do not try to unlock using cellunlocker.net, at least until confirmed working. I checked my IMEI and chose US T-Mobile for my operator and they confirmed it as unlock code available. I paid $25 but didn't receive a code. 12 hours later I got a refund with a message that the phone is too new asking to check again in a couple of weeks once they update their database.

Try it several times, I heard that for some it may take as many as 6 attempts and then it finally takes the code. If not, ask them for refund. I didn't get a code from cellunlocker.net and even didn't have a chance to ask for refund, they just did it once they found out they couldn't get the code for me.

I guess then you can request a refund from them.
Hopefully we'll have someone successfully unlock it from one of those sites and will have a report here as to what site it was. I'm eagerly waiting to get it unlocked. Im just doubtful about one thing. I bought the phone from the US. But im Home (india) for the summer and was trying to use the indian sim to unlock it. Can that be the problem? Like do I need an at&t or some other US carrier sim to unlock it?
I am in the same boat. Bought an HTC one from a US owner eyeing on the fact that it has 1700Mhz support so I can run it on my Wind Mobile network. I need a code now it's impossible for me to use the T-mobile service for 60 days when I'm physically not there.

That's exactly my story. I do have a prepaid account on T-Mobile (their $3/per day plan) but I only use it about ten days a year and I think they ask to use it actively like every day for 60 days for pre paid accounts in order to unlock, but even if I do, I still won't be able to do that as I don't have a receipt.
I guess we just have to be patient and wait till one of those unlocking sites gets T-Mobile codes on their database
Im in the same boat too.
Bought this phone in the US and was told by the rep that customer service would unlock it. Well ive tried 3 different times and they keep refusing. Also ive tried about 10 different online unlock services, all have failed. I really dont wanna have to sell this phone back into the US because it cost me over $800 after import duty and i'd get nowhere near that. And of all the friends that i have in the US, none of them have service with t-mo or know anyone who does. Is t-mo really that ****ty?
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, please share.
I tried www.myhtcunlock.com last night. Paid $35. In the morning I received a refund from them with a message that the phone is too new asking to try again in a couple of weeks.
If anyone is successful in unlocking it from a site, let us know what site it was.
I've used htcsimunlock.com a few times. It usually comes out to $15-20, but they have not disappointed me yet.
hi
I wasn't aware of all the recent US laws re: unlocking and exporting, so have been stuck with a brand new AT+T Lumia 920 from ebay that I can't seem to get unlocked, from any number of 3rd party unlockers.
I've also been through the AT+T International Helpdesk a few times now, and despite being exceedingly helpful, the reps there are now unable to unlock the device or even raise an unlock support request unless they have an existing or previous AT+T number to go on. As I live in the Caribbean, I don't have any numbers I can use, and have never been a customer.
So, if you're an AT+T current customer, have been on contract over 6 months, and don't mind using one of your 5 per year unlocks, I will pay you $25 via paypal (average cost of a 3rd party unlock) if you can get my phone unlocked for me
offer is only to established forum members (6 months and 10 posts +).
Please message me, and I'll supply IMEI details needed and what you need to do with AT+T to unlock it.
Many thanks for any help!

hi
I wasn't aware of all the recent US laws re: unlocking and exporting, so have been stuck with a brand new AT+T Lumia 920 from ebay that I can't seem to get unlocked, from any number of 3rd party unlockers.

I am in the same boat my friend i am also try to do the same, but still have not found any one generous enough to help me out.
hi all,
just to confirm that this will not effect your AT+T account in any way.
i have a documented call log from AT+T reps saying that they simply need a AT+T number to assign the unlock request to!
If you like, simply supply me your cell number, and i will speak to the reps - as far as they are concerned, you bought and sold the Lumia on via ebay without ever using the phone on AT+T (basically the truth anyway), but I can then base the unlock request on this valid situation and existing customer cell number.
thanks

Hi Dom,
Why don't you ask the seller to help you with your Unlock request.
I got my Unlock code this way and my ebay seller was very helpful.
Hope this helps.

Hi,
thanks for the suggestion but i already tried this - unfortunately he wasn't an AT+T customer himself - he had bought the phone to use on one of their plans, then decided to switch to an iPhone with T-mobile at last minut so just flipped the phone without activating on AT+T, and he didn't have details for the guy he bought it from on craigslist.
Hopefully should be sorted now anyway - I found 2 friends over the weekend that still have active AT+T numbers, so going to give it a go with them this morning!

And therein lies the rub. As I'm one of the many AT&T users who picked up a T-Mobile phone since it's compatible with the network and has an unlocked bootloader, I was unpleasantly surprised that there's no DIY unlocking method like I've been used to on other phones.
So I've resolved myself that I needed to factor in an extra $20-30 unlocking fee into my total cost of buying the phone, unless someone has good news for me within the next 48 hours.
Still trying to decide what the best, most-reputable unlocking site is...

I recently did the same thing. However, a couple days ago I noticed that there is a method for international unlock of the device that some users reported allowed them to use their T-mobile device on AT&T without a full domestic unlock. It might be worth looking for that method and trying.
