Question March update: disabling system apps - Google Pixel 6

I'm trying to downgrade my Phone app, which was possible on the Feb update. You could go into the app in settings and hit "uninstall updates". Is that feature just removed now? I don't see anything about it on the release notes.

I am still able to downgrade my phone app. You could probably download a older version of the app using this website or you might have already downgraded it.

Yeah, I had an .apk from there already but I can't install it over the top. It just says "failed" or "cannot install". There's a disable button in settings/apps but it's greyed out. I can do it with other system apps like Calculator and Calendar but not with Phone. I even had to reflash for an unrelated reason and it's still the same.
I did manage to get BCR working so it's ok-ish for now (BCR doesn't like the canary build of Magisk apparently). It's just that I wanted to use GoogleDiallerMod call recording without the recording notice. That needs a Phone version from December 2022.

that is odd... maybe it truely was removed in that update because im on december 2022 update and i have the unisntall updates for my phone app.
I guess you could find a work around if you rooted your device but I am not sure what the risks are for messing with the phone app on root

In settings-Apps-Phone, do you have the 3 dot menu in the top left? I still have it after the March update and it provides the "uninstall updates" option. I attached a screenshot

Ah! That's it. Problem solved. It used to always be the middle button but I guess they moved it up there. Cheers buddy

Also, for anyone looking for a call recorder, BCR works flawlessly. I've had bad experiences with a bunch of different apps/modules and this is the best by far. Only downside is it records every call (no switch). Compression is really good with the standard codec though and you can set it to delete after X days

[Solved] [Q] Ignore app state option no longer available, 2.8 beta 2

I noticed a few days ago that Facebook was no longer hibernating when I shut off my screen. It turns out that the option to ignore app state is no longer available, which I was using to hibernate apps like Facebook that always show up as working. Is there a reason for this? Because this option is not available, Greenify will no longer auto-hibernate Facebook. Currently running on a rooted Nexus 6P.

This feature is still available in Greenify and I used it yesterday.
Either Facebook or N6P should be the reason if it is not working for you. Most likely Facebook.

Are you running 2.8 beta 2? It was available on my phone as of a week ago, and the option isn't available for any apps, so it isn't my phone and it isn't Facebook. I recently switched to systemless root, could that be it?
For me is working fine (rooted+Xposed)

Yes, I am on 2.8 beta 2.
Some Apps are not comfortable with the root built into the ROM.
Try SuperSU.

I am using SuperSU, version 2.56 beta with systemless root. I'll try going back to regular root and I'll report on whether or not the ignore running state option comes back.
I'm an idiot. You have to manually hibernate a working app before it gives you the option to ignore running state permanently. Thanks for your help, everybody!
I am on 2.8.1 with root mode. I don't seem to find the manual hibernate option to ignore app state. I got this app that's abusing the state and shows "working" all the time.

Try the way described in the post above yours.
Any specific reason to stick with an older version? If not, update to the latest and then try.

I think that's the latest version. I have tried to select the app and click the hibernate button. It does stop the app immediately but doesn't mention anything about app state.

Xposed doesn't have anything to do with this option. I hope you are running it in root or boost mode.
You may not get this option on the App Analyzer screen. When you are on the main screen of Greenify and this app is shown as running, touch it to highlight it. Then click the Zzzz button or the three dot menu, then 'hibernate now'. You should get a dialogue box containing some warnings and also a checkbox within it. Tick the checkbox, then click OK. That is all.

Thanks, this is definitely something I have done in the past on a Samsung device. However, after I had migrated to Nexus 5x I lost this option. I just try to replicate the steps yet once again I don't get any prompt for app state. Sigh.
FYI, yes I am on root mode.

Why don't you try this on another app and see whether you get the option? By the way, which app is giving you this issue?

Installed and testing. First thing i noticed is that the Lockscreen wallpaper bug is fixed.
"Back up the data and APPs in your phone by using the built-in Backup function. To enable the built-in Backup function of your phone (an SD card must be inserted), select Backup and Restore from the main menu"
I think they're imagining this

Did the sound issue being fixed or not several people mention in different threads.

At 2GB, this seems like a full image. I'm not at a computer; can anyone check it out to see if that's the case?

The OP mentioned "B02", not "B20". Typo?
Anyway, the B20 for the US version was only ~80MB. The OP reports 2GB for this one. Sounds like the difference between a standard OTA update and full image. Not sure why they'd do a full image update, but some companies have/do.

It's specifically for the European version. A2017G is the model sold in Europe.
Any information about the bootloader for the European model with this update?
Is the launcher still without an app drawer?
Does the double tap to open option included from the beginning to European version or not??

In the newer Messenger versions, the "Save Photos" option was removed.
Even when installing an older messenger version where had it this option, it is missing.
But with a modified APK, this option has not yet been removed to me.
Maybe it's not fully server-side or ?!

If you uninstall a messenger and then install it again, have you got the new design again?
Whether or not you get the re-design is entirely server-side on Facebooks end. They have stated you won't need to update the app at all, it'll just be enabled for your account in the background and then you will have it.
There's no way to get the re-design through an updated app as of yet. They do roll back some people who get it when they shouldn't.
You just have to wait. It's rolling out in waves.

Delete the Pie update

I haven't updated to pie yet and I don't plan to until they fix the pro mode in video camera mode. Every couple of hours I get the software update notification. Can I delete this file to make the notification go away? Where is it located? I have the T-Mobile model if that makes a difference. Thank!
Hi there! Since you are using Android 8 you can install Package Disabler Pro which includes a sub menu for disabling OTA updates.
Open the app, swipe left and you'll see something like premium settings, click on it and search for OTA updates.

If it downloads the update clearing the system cache should purge I've been told but not tested it!
More than one way to skin a kat.
If you're rooted use one of the rooted apk blockers; I have very little knowledge in that area.
You can block the update app with ADB if you want.
Karma Firewall can be use to block the app itself from internet access, Karma uses almost no battery, freeware, an excellent apk. Can be set to run at bootKate.
Your carrier can also disable them on their end if it's a carrier phone.
I use Package Disabler on my 10+ to block the garbage. Use the none Samsung phone version.
Home - Package Disabler
The only NON-root solution that let’s you disable any unwanted packages that come pre-installed / installed with your phone / tablet.
www.packagedisabler.com
Updates break phones.
Rule #1 if your device is running fast, stable and fulfilling its mission... let it be!
I'm still running on Pie. My current OS load is over a year old, still fast and stable in spite of heavy usage. Very low maintenance.
Security is generally just not an issue unless you do something stupid with Pie and above.
As course there is no saving dumb bunnies... even with the latest updates
do you know how i can block it in ADB?

I don't use it. There are tutorials here though.
There are a bunch of system managers for rooted phones that should lock it down.
This one does I think:
Autostarts - Apps on Google Play
Keep control over your phone: See what applications do behind your back.
play.google.com
i will give it a shot. There's an option to block updates?

It lists all startups. Be careful it's a powerful apk on a rooted phone...
In developer options is a toggle for automatic updates. Turn it off.
With that deactivated, it'll give you a notification prompt about new updates, but won't force the update like it usually does when you reboot your phone.

But OP is talking about a TMobile device which uses the on system updater instead of some carrier crap thankfully.

Yeah if you can flip it off in Developer options that is sweet.
Google Services also pushes updates, and last night it managed to get through - usually it whines there is an update, and even if I let it, it crashes... figured no worries then. Well... it (or something, every other OTA service and option is off that I found) made it through and unrooted me last night.
See https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...can-meet-up-with-a-terrible-accident.4281293/ for OP
Luckily, bootloader still unlocked, updated to latest TWRP and reflashed Magisk and all seems to be OK.
Reflashing stock 14.0.11 gives a bunch of loop errors, working on that.
Anyway methinx time to get rid of G/S and replace with the Gapps version....
