Question Motorola x40 Chinese > Global rom transition - Motorola Edge 40 Pro / Moto X40 (China)

Hello,
After receiving my new Motorola x40 I realized that I wasn't able to use my GooglePay nor did it have other language support. So I decided to unlock my x40 bootloader via https://en-us.support.motorola.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your- device-a
It all worked. I managed to install a global rom with all the google apps and extra language support.
However, Global rom didn't allow my GooglePlay to use my cards or backup via googleOne since the flashing was unlocked. So I went to fastboot to " fastboot flashing lock". After which my cards were able to work.
After few days of using global rom I decided to go back to chinese one since I found it a bit easier to navigate.
So when I decided to go back to my old chinese rom, in "Developer Options" OEM unlocking says "Connect to the internet or contact your operator" and it is greyed out.
I tried using " fastboot flashing/oem unlock" in fastboot however it tells me that i need to unlock it in " developer options " first.
My phone has already been connected to wifi for around 90 hours on a Global rom And around a week before I transitioned from Chinese room over to global rom.
How long do I need to be connected to the internet or what operator do I need to contact to unlock my OEM again? Or maybe there is another way to unlock OEM without waiting?
Things I tried and failed:
1) Factory reset
2) Wipe/Cache reset via recovery3) "fastboot flashing/oem unlock" via bootloader
Global rom used: https://mirrors.lolinet.com/firmware/motorola/rtwo/official/RETGB/

Have same problem.

How many days are you in this state? maybe you are closer to 7 days than I am

The toggle to unlock the bootloader is now enabled for me after 8 days. I have the Edge 40 Pro.

mine too, didn't look before, i own mine since 14 april

Ok so the theory is that once you get a global rom and "fastboot oem lock", it will act like new phone and will only unlock after 7-8 days. Guess will have to wait to test this theory out.

Any update whether you can toggle OEM Unlocking?
Also, as someone who have been using Moto phones from China for years, CN ROM is way way way better the Global ROM when it comes to features and software updates. One useful feature is the built in Motorola Wallet app where I can use my phone as keycard and transpo card.

I'm assuming it's a Motorola issue. I'm assuming maybe even real Edge 40 Pro devices can't unlock yet? Honestly if OTA works and so do all features (banking, 5g, etc) then I have no problem doing the conversion.

You won't be able to unlock the bootloader twice, impossible it's done by design by motorola.

It's possible that we won't get OTA, only will know for sure in the future, i'm in the same situation.
But you can always manually update your firmware with rescue tool or through ADB as long it's the official firmware. You don't need a unlocked bootloader for that

I think this method would work:
I screwed up...moto X40 bricked / Any EDL mode available?
Hi guys sadly I completely softbricked my motorola X40 phone i'm a idiot. I flashed to a wrong firmware file (edge 30 pro) and re-locked bootloader then found it phone doesn't properly boot anymore. I can boot it in fastboot mode but flashing in...
forum.xda-developers.com
But I think this will erase all your data so it's not a real "upgrade firmware" method
I also found out there is an "software update" in the lenovo rescue tool
Maybe it's worth the shot to try this out too, but for me it's says I have the latest firmware already (which is correct) so I can't test it out right now.

Kate (International Version): TWRP/root/roms?

Hello, various posts say kenzo roms could be used on kate, but without modem files. Many users already tried flashing manually modified roms, bricking or having issues. Is there a full tutorial to how effectively:
- unlock bootloader (only unofficial way for what i understand...)
- root the phone (only flashing supersu via TWRP? what version of TWRP?)
- possibly modify existent kenzo roms to use them on kate (not only CM.... there are so many roms with various kernels too...are they working without problems on kate?)
so far i've been scouring the net for any possible guide, but there are really few to none specific for kate, and none answering clearly the previous questions....and i am sure i'm not alone as more and more people are buying right now the international version, and keep asking the same questions. Could somebody shed a light? thanks.
Following this thread. I bought international version and can't wait to flash CM
Inviato dal mio MI 2S utilizzando Tapatalk
You need to unlock bootloader and then flash TWRP. Once that's done all you need to do is flash CM13, CM13Firmware, Opengapps ARM64 and modem file for Kate (NON-HLOS from fastboot of MIUI8 Kate). Also can flash latest SuperSU for root.
To flash modem once CM13 is installed boot fastboot and then enter:
fastboot flash modem NON-HLOS.bin

I wish there was a TWRP specifically for "kate" though. Because TWRP will think "kate" is "kenzo" for now.
is its possible to unlock the Kate version on the official way? Because in the Guide from Xiaomi ist the Point "You must on China Dev Firmware" but this versions isnt available for the kate version?

Until today, no one confirmed to have had success with official unlock. Even though it should be possible to unlock with the Mi Flash Unlock tool on every ROM, it is very likely that it can only reliable unlock when using a Chinese Developer ROM, which doesn't exist for Kate.
Most people are getting an error message in the above utility, saying that the MI account in the phone and the one used in the utility don't match, even if they do.

You found my guide.
Is there any good reason to wait for a reliable way to officially unlock the bootloader? Or any downside to go with the unofficial unlock method?
I got my phone yesterday and just found out today I actually had the Kate version. I don't really plan on going back to MIUI and from what I understand, the official unlock method would only make it easier to switch back to MIUI. Is that right?
(It's not my first time playing with custom ROMs, I have flashed multiple roms / kernels in the past but I always owned Nexus phones and it was quit dummy proof on these phones.)

That's my understanding, yes. Interestingly, when I had a Kenzo and unlocked it officially, the bootloader got relocked whenever I flashed something like CM. With Kate (unofficially unlocked), the bootloader wasn't relocked after flashing CM. In that sense, unlocking it via unofficial means may be advantageous.

I made a mistake at this part and it wouldn't allow me to unlock the bootloader. The guide to unlock the bootloader doesn't explicitly mention one important detail. In the screen where you have to allow USB debugging, you must also enable the option saying "Allow OEM unlock" or something like that. I didn't enable that option at first and in fastboot it would tell me I was not allowed to unlock the bootloader. So I had to reboot the phone normally, go through all the MIUI setup and finally re-enable USB Debugging and enable "Allow OEM unlock".

One other question, when flashing the rom is it safe to put it on the SD card, or does it need to be on internal?

[WARNING] (Amazfit) HUAMI LOCKS BOOTLOADER IN 1.2.13 AND 1.3.2b

Huami started to lock the bootloader of the Amazfit watch in their official release 1.2.13 and 1.3.2b onwards.
If you want to keep the possibilty to flash custom software on your watch, DO NOT UPGRADE TO THESE VERSIONS. You will not be able to flash any other firmware afterwards.
PACEfied firmware is safe, and does NOT lock your bootloader.
UPDATE 14.07.17:
We have heard several times now via inofficial sources that Huami is working on an official bootloader unlocking service. So far, we, however, have no official information here.
On the other hand, Olivier (french developer on xda) has spent a significant amount of time to understand the unlocking process and we have succeeded to successfully unlock two watches. We are currently in the process of setting up a (free) unlocking web service, allowing individual xda users to unlock their watches for private usage (and accepting loss of warranty from Huami).
In case, Huami may ever come out with their service, we will stop our service, as we do not want to compete with Huami here, just filling the gap if Huami doesn't move forward with their unlocking service.
Please give us some time (we expect 2-3 weeks) to setup the unlock service.
UPDATE 7.08.17:
The unlock service is live now. Head over to https://forum.xda-developers.com/smartwatch/amazfit/tutorial-unlock-bootloader-warning-void-t3654011, if you want your bootloader unlocked!

I wouldn't expect Huami to put efforts into locking the bootloader and at the same time making it that easy to unlock it again. This is no coincidence. They saw our work and reacted. That's what happened. Very sad

Well, the strings dump shows that the "oem unlock" command seems to exist, but it indicates that an unlock code is necessary, probably based on the serial number of the watch:
strings dump extract:
Code:
oem:
unlock
serial no length is null
magic_serialno:%s
, len:%d
%02x
uncrypted_str_serialno:%s
Unlocked code sucess
Unlocked code is error
Unsupport oem cmd
FAILED: The command is not recongized
So, we have three possibilities:
We find the method on how the code is calculated based on the serial of the watch
We find the location, where u-boot stores the variable, if the device is locked or not (EDIT: I would expect that in the Misc partition.)
We just reflash the old bootloader (easiest, but only temporary until next OTA update)

You will only need the bootloaders (rest of the OTA is just modified apks). I will send them both (old and new one) to you via PM. It would be necessary to disassemble and understand the new bootloader (the old one does not have any OEM commands and also did not read the serial no at all, instead displayed always a dummy serial).
The serial is stored on the misc partition, so the bootloader now needs to read this partition. That's why I believe they probably stored the lock/unlock flag also there. We just need to know which byte.
Of course, if there were someone with a functioning unlock code, he could dump his misc partition before and after unlocking. That would make it pretty clear
so I now have no way to flash a stable version starting from 1.2.13?

No, also locks bootloader. But there is a good chance that we can unlock or reflash the bootloader, if someone wants to switch firmware later.
I also have this problem. I accidentally updated my Amazfit to the latest version official rom. Now I wanted to upgrade to PACEfied, but the bootloader is locked.
Do you have any ideas how to unlock it?

I have an idea how we can unlock the bootloader. In the weekend I will see if I can post a tutorial.
Well, I don't know what I could gain by flashing PACEified FW on my watch... all I've really been looking for is working notifications from my phone to the watch. I'm coming from wearing a Samsung Gear Live that's now worn-out, and it integrated into my life by bringing notifications to my wrist. The Amazfit was perfect for fitness, runtime, and notifications -- but notifications have never worked despite all my hacking and flashing (originally came with Chinese ROM). My saga so far is detailed here: https://www.reddit.com/r/amazfit/comments/61w4ga/most_notifications_not_coming_through_facebook
I flashed the English ROM to it tonight, and proceeded to OTA it (because newer is better, right?). The update failed as I still had the Chinese recovery on it. When it failed, I decided to try intercepting the update bundle before it rebooted. I succeeded, by kicking it into Fastboot mode using the power-button trick, then I pulled the 1.3.2b update.zip file through the "mod recovery". That file is here: https://mega.nz/#!nIBDhLrR!7nQlWsn-TF4bsMNBSaTOfimY-vo-Z2R3dSavrDp1wsA
I fixed my recovery with help of another thread, and OTA'd again to success - the darn thing took a good solid 10 minutes to run the ~33MB update! The progress bar hung the longest (~2 mins each) near the "w", "c", and at the end of "watch" in the message about not powering off the watch. Rather surprising, and wasn't sure if it hung due to my mods or what it was doing...
Hopefully this helps someone interested in looking into how the bootloader gets locked (IDK if Amazfit expected someone to intercept this, being as it's near impossible to intercept except with a MitM on WiFi), perhaps in exchange for some help with these notifications?

Just to clarify: Technically, it is not "unlocking" the bootloader. It just reflashes the old one (which did not have the locking function). That implies that the "unlocked" bootloader will only stay "unlocked" until you install the next official OTA update (which again flashes the locked bootloader). If you move to PACEfied, then that is ok, as PACEfied certainly does not lock your bootloader.

Gearbest Mi8 bootloader unlocked

Hi everyone
I've just upgrade to a Mi8 for a mi6, I've received mine today from Gearbest it came with the international ROM pre-installed. I then noticed the bootloader was already unlocked. I checked with the Mi unlock tool and it said it was.
I was able to install twrp and miui EU right away. Well happy with that as I didn't have to wait the 2 weeks to unlock.
The only issue now is I ordered the gold one but didn't know it was rose gold hahahaha. Just waiting for the case to turn up to hide the pink. Can't complain as it was on offer for £350 for the 128gb version.
Currently, every "global" Mi 8 being sold is a Chinese Mi 8 with multilang/globalrom.
By the way, do not lock the bootloader while a global rom is installed on a Chinese variant because Xiaomi made a system which bricks the phone in that case to prevent Chinese variants being resold worldwide.
You can even try GSI images out if you're up for it.
I'm using miui EU ROM where Google pay still works so won't be locking the bootloader with twrp. But cheers for the heads up.
I've not seen any other custom ROMs yet. I take it GSI are the new ROMs that keep the system bits and OS in different partitions?

Pretty much yeah.
You just do a factory reset and flash a GSI as a System Image through TWRP.
There are GSIs of all popular roms but the best one at least for me is RR ( it has the same edge gestures as in MIUI and a lot of other goodies ).
Of course, there will be small bugs like broken audio playback on Bluetooth headphones and automatic brightness.
But when you think about the fact that other devices have hardcore broken parts like camera and audio, one can't complain too much.
Oh yeah, Phh-treble feature roms support the notch. You can set the clock to left and toy with the lcd density ( I set it to 409 ) for the perfect layout of status bar items alongside the notch.
Could you point me in the right direction to the ROMs as I don't see anything under the Mi8 section.

You would probably need to reflash the official ROM using miflash by going into fastboot by holding down power and vol - once restored unlock bootloader and reflash twrp.
Or you could try going fastboot connected to the mi unlock tool and see what it does.

Thanks for your reply, it is impossible to flash because bootloader was locked by me. And it is impossible to unlock the bootloader, because the software asks Mi account to unlock bootloader, but there was no Mi account connected to the phone.
If it's locked you should still get to fastboot to use miflash to install the genuine rom. If that doesn't work get yourself a edl cable for recovery

Global Version comes with an official stable global rom and a locked bootloader.
It is intended for international use, so it has a european adapter and supports many languages.
The international version is a Chinese device with Unlocked bootloader and is flashed with an unofficial global rom to support many languages because the Chinese version of mi8 only has Mandarin and English languages by default.
If you notice package contents the "International" one says Chinese manual while the Global one says English manual.
I hope i helped you.

NONE - if you lock your bootloader back, you first need the version of your phone with a STOCK ROM (Chinese, or Global) put back on your phone (ALL partitions MUST be back to stock) or you WILL BRICK YOUR DEVICE and only an Authorized EDL account can recover your phone (which they aren't giving out anymore). The Bootloader DOES NOT allow locking with a different ROM/REGION. This has been stated MANY times over LOTS of threads. That leaves a problem with places like GEARBEST and many other vendors who give you a chinese version phone with a GLOBAL version ROM and the user locks the bootloader only to get a brick.

How I rooted my Huawei P10 late 2018 (cost €4)

Here's just a quick guide of how I just successfully rooted my P10 (from android nougat)
Use this file (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1c1iQBvvP7zTUiKz5PZmlJUH5DKBxxC3L)
It has everything you need inside in one package. (I havent anything to do with the development of any of the tools, this is just my compilement of them)
1. BACK UP
Back up everything you can on you phone to your pc
2.Drivers
Easiest was is to install Huawei's HuSuite otherwise do a manual driver install
3.Get bootloader unlock code
This will cost 4eur but is now the only way to get the code since Huawei stopped providing the codes. I can verify DC unlocker are legit, their tools are scary powerful and well worth the cost. Follow the below tutorial for this.
https://www.dc-unlocker.com/how-to-read-huawei-bootloader-unlock-code
4.Unlock the bootloader
On the phone enable developer mode (look this up its easy) and enable usb debugging and oem unlock. Then plug the phone into your pc and run cmd.exe inside the set folder. Enter the command without quotes "adb reboot bootloader". This will restart the phone in bootloader mode. Next enter the command "fastboot oem unlock CODE" with your code that you got from dc unlocker. This will restart the phone from factory so you will need to do a quick set up and enable developer settings and usb debigging again.
5. Installing custom recovery
Enter the bootloader mode again with "adb reboot bootloader". Then from the bootloader mode enter the command "fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.1-0-vtr.img" this will install twrp recovery.
6. Installing Magisk root
Copy the zip file Magisk-v17.1.zip onto an sd card and insert into the phone.
Restart the phone into system again and use "adb reboot recovery". This will start the phone into twrp recovery mode. From here go to install, navigate to the zip and install it.
7.Finishing
Then boot the phone and Magisk manager should be installed on your now rooted phone for managing you super user and root.
Any questions or help needed message me, or my email is in my set folder.
@Jyndon use MEGA or zip files and attach it to the thread. People won't download from this, since they need premium feature to download folder.
Yeah bro I need it plz

What is Android version on your P10? My one is Oreo 8.0 and DC-Unlocker did not work. It showed "unknown error 375"

I think we are out of luck I was just asked for 30 euros to get the bootloader unlocked as I am also on 8.0
On DC-Unlocker page it says:
Huawei P10 VTR-xxx upgraded to Android 8x not supported
Huawei P10 plus VKY-xxx upgraded to Android 8x not supported
Not sure if downgrading and then unlocking would make sense...

Hi,
it's possible downgrading to previous version or to Nougat without unlocking bootloader first? Pheraps you mean forcing update via microsd slot?
Thank you

Here is what I know so far:
1. You do not necessary to be on Nougat to unlock the bootloader, you should be able to unlock it if your firmware is before June patch
2. If you are on firmware after June patch, you would first need to rollback/downgrade to pre June firmware by finding previous firmware
3. Rolling back from after June patch to previous firmware might brick your phone
Currently, I did not find a way to unlock the bootloader on C654B327 as I cannot find any pre June firmware for my branding (C654) and rebranding to some other (C432) cannot be done without unlocked bootloader. And so far I did not hear of anyone downgrading and unlocking from C654B327 so I am a bit afraid I could brick my phone.
Guess I will wait and see if there are any good news in the future...

I'm not suggesting to unlock the bootloader with DC, you should be able to do that normally with adb the same as you would on nougat

I was on nougat when I wrote this guide. Maybe try rolling back to android 7.0 to get the bootloader code then upgrade again after. To do this I'm assuming you might be able to use some dload method perhaps.

True, if he hasn't latest security patch installed. With patch from Dec 2018 it seems that Huawei introduced something new so you can't roll back even with dload method

In that case you could always send an email to DC to see if they are working to update it to work for 8.0. They seem pretty helpful and responsive from when I've contacted them before so I'm sure they might be able to offer some information.

hi,
I tought so but I did downgrading with HiSuite and then locked all requirements for DC Unlocker and I've got my bootloader unlock code now to do anything !!!!
It took a while and lot of nerves but at the end you should do step by step all points which was mentioned in the begining of this thread.
in case of dc-unlocker problems try to use other usb port (other than usually you use for connecting the phone to computer)

Hello,
Hisuite method does not work with latest firmware/security patch. Tried many times, but no option to downgrade appears. It looks like Huawei would prevents to let us downgrade as they stated.

What? Where? If you mean DC unlocker tool maybe your device isn't supported, but you should ask them not here.
@justinas2003 which software version and security patch you got? Here some additional info:

So I should downgrade through HiSuite?

Question POCO X3 GT (chopin) - How to change from GLOBAL firmware to INDONESIA stock firmware?

I have the GLOBAL version of POCO X3 GT (chopin) 8GB/256GB and its a good device but the Google Dialer is making the whole phone unusable becuase of its Call Recording.
1) It does not have Automatic recording for all calls
2) Even after manually recording calls it takes ages to search for recorded files as there is no way to access them.
I do not want to root my phone for security reasons however I came across some posts which mention that the INDONESION firmware has MI Dialer & Contacts instead of Google which is enough incentive to void my warranty and try to change firmwares.
It has been a couple of years since I last played with custom roms, bootloader, fastboot flashing, etc. So I would appreciate if you guys can help me with a few questions:
1) Bootloader unlocking: Whats the best method for Poco X3 GT
2) Method to flash different region stock firmware
3) Is it safe to re-lock the bootloader after the new region firmware is flashed? or do I need to leave the bootloader unlocked?
1. use the official xiaomi bootloader unlock tool
2. Easy, just download the region fastboot rom you want and extract them. Flash via MiFlash -- pay attention to tick clean all in the corner of the screen if you don't want your device to be bricked
3. don't relock, if you lock the bootloader on other region firmware, you will be bricked

Oddly enough, this was not my experience. I unlocked my bootloader, flashed the Indonesia version 13.0.5.0 fastboot image using MiFlash using the clean all option. Then after booting and setting up the phone, it offered the update for version 14.0.1.0. I let the phone complete the update. Once the update finished and the phone had booted up again I rebooted it to bootloader mode and ran the command fastboot oem lock. The phone went through a factory reset and then booted successfully to the new phone setup dialogue.
Also to mention that I did also experience problems with 5GHz WiFi with version 13.0.5.0 but these problems were resolved after the version 14.0.1.0 update.

Even after update to 14.0.1.0 my 5Ghz wifi did not work. After waiting months I have just flashed back to global 14.0.2.0.TKPMIXM firmware yet still 5Ghz wifi is not working. Can someone guide how to fix it? Have I messed up its baseband or something during flashing?
Still unlocked bootloader?
As a comparison, whenever I unlock the bootloader on my Nokia 7 Plus and flash a custom ROM, I am not able to use 5GHz WLAN. It only works after relocking the bootloader and flashing stock firmware.
I am not sure if this was the same with the X3 GT and I cannot test it anymore as my wife took the phone and I am now using a X4 GT.
