So, a week or so ago I've been forced to install an OTA update (despite disabling these in settings, because see this thread), and now my navigation is screwed up.
Swiping right on the pill from any regular app correctly switches to the previous one. Doing the same on a home screen (tested with Nova 6 and Total launcher) *seems* to be doing the same, but in reality it enters a fullscreen version of "app carousel" that you normally enter swiping up on the pill.
The easiest way to spot it (and mostly how it screws me up) is that the next pill swipe right won't switch to the next app, but instead smoothly scroll over multiple of them. Another thing is that because it's the carousel and not actual app (despite being properly fullscreen), any iteraction enters the app, showing the fade-in animation. And only then you can normally use it, so it basically eats the first input you do. Except swipe up, which, like on the proper carousel, kills the app.
This DOES NOT happen with the stock Asus launcher, but I don't want to use it. It also was working well before the update, I swipe to get to the last back from home constantly.
In the attached video, you can see me demonstrating the problem:
- [00:01] First there's a regular "swipe pill up" to open the recents carousel, scrol it back and forth, start swiping up some app, this works as expected
- [00:06] Then, back on home screen, I swipe right on the pill directly, entering the bugged state despite it looking like if it just entered the Reddit app
- [00:08] But another swipe right, instead of swapping to the SCP Reader app, just scrolls thorugh a bunch of them
- [00:13] After swiping back to the first on the list, clicking a post makes a weird "pop-in" animation
- [00:15] Because now we're out of the bugged state and entered the app properly, only the next click selects a post like it should
- [00:17] Back home again, swipe right to enter bugged state like I usually get back to an app after unlocking the phone
- [00:19] Click to exit bugged state again
- [00:21] Swiping right on the pill *from an app*, which works as expected
- [00:22+] Swiping sideways on pill a few more times to show that it's *not* in the bugged state and changes one app at a time, also entering these properly right away
Does anyone also experience this? Obv I tried restarting the phone, disabling/enabling the pill and in general messing with as many settings as I could to try and poke it, but nothing still. It's SUPER disruptive in everyday use, I'd be very glad to try any suggestions/fixes.
This has been happening for last 3 updates if I recall correctly. I have switched to stock launcher until it's fixed.
Really sucks, A13 finally fixed issues with 3rd party launchers but after an update this issue appeared.

Hi
I've been considering the LG V10 and wanted to hear from the XDA community on how useful the 2nd screen actually was. Is the second screen more than a novelty? What do you use yours for? What apps can utilize the 2nd screen? How often do you use the 2nd. screen and how does it effect battery life?Screen caps would be welcome.
It's a useful novelty, I wish they would have bumped up the front facing cameras and gave us the option to have a 5.9 inch screen. Useful for checking time w/out unlocking phone as we as being able to change songs w/out unlocking especially useful while driving
I really enjoy the lack of notification cards on the main screen. The past few phones I've had (Note 5, Nexus 6, S6 Edge) have all had the Lollipop style cards that block way too much of the screen. With this phone, the notifications just go to the secondary screen so you can keep focus on what you're doing but still be able to see it. Also, the music controls have been amazing so far and it makes it so much easier as you don't have to pull the shade or switch apps to change tracks or pause (Noticing a trend here lol?). And finally, I use it for having favorite contacts set up (similar to the only good concept of the edge IMO). Hope this helps, so far I love this phone!
I am loving the second screen and find it very useful.
For shortcuts I have tapatalk, chrome, maps, camera and settings.
I love that it also has the 5 most recent apps. I came from a note 2 and waiting for long press for the recent apps was a pain! Of course this phone has a button for that anyway but I still like having them just sitting up there.
I am also using the contact shortcuts to try to replace my direct dial and text shortcuts I had on my home screens. I'm still trying to get used to that.
I definitely like that the date and time is always showing so I can check without waking the phone.
I also recently discovered that if I swipe over to the left when the main screen is sleeping there are shortcuts for the camera, flashlight, Wi-Fi toggle and sound /vibrate toggle.
I love it.
So far I think I'm using the app shortcuts the most.

BTW guys, not exactly related to the secondary-screen alone but how is the "alt-tab" performance; toggling between recent apps?
Say you cycle between the 5 recent apps; do they pop-up just immediately without any delay and at the exact point where you have left the app? (i.e. a web page doesn't reload, Twitter doesn't refresh like you are opening the app for the first time).
So far I really like the second screen. I keep having an issue where my Hangouts keep showing up as the big banner across the screen (sms seems to show on the secondary though). I also with when the screen was off it would show the whole notification, not just the icon. It would also be nice to choose how long the notification stayed on the second screen. I feel like it pops up and goes away so fast.
I wish the quick contacts could be set as direct dial. I will never use on of those icons to text. I need quick to just dial the primary contacts I have.
Two words: Spotify controls.
Spotify's lock widget was awful, and it always frustrated me that I had to unlock the phone to restart a song. Now I don't even have to turn the lock screen on to do it. This alone made love the second screen.
I thought it might be gimmicky, but I like using it to switch between apps and the music control is nice.

Generally yes, the ram management is very good
I find it useful. Even if u don't plan in using it shouldn't be a bother.
App switching is better, faster since you don't have to flip through cards. I always preferred the old school Android where it just showed the app icons of previous apps
Google Now cards flash with basketball game scores without interrupting whatever I'm doing.
Same with calls. They show up on the second screen.
Is anyone else having trouble using gestures with third party launchers? For me, they work just fine and then after some time it reverts to buttons and I get the message "System navigation updated. To make changes, go to settings".
Searching around, it seems like people on other phones don't have this problem anymore.
On a different note, I started using fluid navigation gestures (FNG) and I preferred that since I could add more gestures. Problem is if I'm plugged into the dual screen case and I turn off the dual screen - either by turning the screen behind the phone or manually turning it off - and use the notification shade, then the buttons come back and hide and FNG is disabled until I start using the dual screen again.
Anyone have any solutions?

Same annoying issue! I think it happens every time Nova gets restarted but not sure on that. I've searched for a resolution too and can't find one. I tried creating a tasker profile to make it easier to switch back to gestures via a quick setting but it doesn't work. The secure setting to change is navigation_mode value of 2.

Nova shows you an explanation right on the settings page of the problem. Google has not made gestures 100% compatible with 3rd party launchers and there is nothing devs can do until Google gives them what they need
Yes, I've seen that message. I've also seen that Google delivered this ability in December of last year and that some users have this working fine. It's different from when it would gray out the option to use the gestures. This one feels like LGs software is the one resetting the gestures since the notification is titled System UI.
I'd be fine with any solid gesture solution as I'm not mated to the built in gestures, but it seems like others break due to the dual screen. Meanwhile the built in ones fail. I could of course change back to gestures every time this happens, but it feels like I'm using a beta device in this regard.

I don't think it's LG. My wife has the same issue on her Note10, and I have it in both my V60 and my OnePlus 6t all using Nova. Maybe another launcher has implemented the fix?
So far for me Action Launcher seems to be working ok with gestures, even after a reboot. I prefer Nova but this is close.
edit: Dual screen causes the navigation to revert back
Anyone else having trouble with gesture navigation when using full screen apps?
Sometimes when I start a video on YouTube in full screen mode, switch temporarily to a messaging app and then come back to the video, the gesture navigation is all messed up. Lower part (short side of the phone) of the screen doesn't register touch so I can't get out of full screen in YouTube and the thin white bar is not where it should be on the longer side (which is now supposed to be the bottom), but instead it is on the short side which should also be my "back" gesture now.
This is very annoying as trying to swipe 'back' now gets me to the home screen and I am unable to hit three dots or the full screen button in YouTube.
I am not using auto-rotate, but I am using Sony Side sense and obviously gestures to navigate. Rotating the phone 180 degrees and back seems to fix it. It's like the phone forgets how it should be oriented when I switch between an app that is in portrait mode and landscape mode
Anyone else out there with these kind of issues or am I alone with this?
I've also experienced this and have found no fix. If I go to recent apps and re-enter the app from there a couple times, it fixes itself but that's all I've found.
Hey guys,
I got the Zenfone 9 yesterday and I'm already thinking about returning it. Main pain point at the moment is the Asus launcher, or rather the gesture navigation. Swiping left and right to switch between the applications is not working well for me. I'd say only half of the swipes (left or right) are actually changing the app. I'm pretty sure that I'm not too clumsy, since I don't have any problems on my Pixel 5 with the gesture navigation. Like I said, sometimes it works for a couple of swipes in a row, then it just stops changing apps. Then it works again.
I found 1 thread on the asus forums where a user had similar problem with the button navigation, without any real solution.
I also tried a different launcher (Nova and Neo Launcher), which of course suffers from the third party launcher bug (home screen blank for a second or just not registering clicks for a brief moment), so using another launcher is not an option and the problem with the swiping is present there as well.
Anybody else have this problem? Anything I can change?
PS: I had to do a wipe data via bootloader since the phone was stuck in a bootloop upon first boot, so I'm not offf to a good start here with this phone.
Use a case and tell us. Maybe a problem of palm rejection...
Using a case doesn't make a difference. I also have this problem when the phone is just laying on a table and I'm using just one finger to swipe on the bar.
After searching some more, I'm pretty sure that it is a defect. This issue is so obvious on my phone, I'm pretty sure it is a defective unit.
I guess I'll be returning this phone then......
Never had a single navigation bar misbehavior
normally, double tapping the recents key should switch to the next app in recents menu/task manager. however, in Zenfone 9, it's very inconsistent, double tapping often brings back the same app and doesn't switch or goes to home screen. More than half the time this happens. if tried multiple times, sometimes recents key becomes unresponsive and need to press home key to make it work again. I know in android 12, task switching is slow (google's fault) but in other phones it works slowly at least. however in this phone it often fails to work. I've turned of long press recents to take screenshot and yet this occurs.
It doesn't happen if "Animator duration scale" is 0 or off. However, without animation the experience would be poor.
does anyone else have this issue and any workaround?
Do you use any custom launcher? I've noticed some similar thing being on "Smart Launcher".

Same issue, stock everything right outta the box. It seems to be Chrome that isn't behaving as expected, other apps toggle no problem but Chrome refuses to cooperate. Very annoying.
Same issue with me. But I use Nova launcher. And I dont double press recent button. I use Fluid Navigation Gestures to switch to last app. Its inconsistent. Sometimes all recent apps will be shown black
Sames issue here, with A12 and now with A13. Stock launcher

true, I found it to occur in some other apps too, but chromium browsers seem most common by far.
