I'm trying to root my phone using the Lelus method. As far as I know, I'm following the instructions to the letter. When I get to the actual flashing step, using the ICS T-mobile rom, I get the same "Scheduled Server Maintenance" error that Kevev reported in the guide thread on the development forum. Apparently, he was able to successfully flash, but I don't see any information there as to how he got around the error. I have tried repeatedly and always come up with the same result. Since I can't post yet in a development forum, I have to ask the question here. I must be doing something wrong, but I don't have a clue. I ask your indulgence, and would appreciate any help you can give me.

I have it nested several directories deep. Did you get it to work when you put it in C? I'll give it a try.

You get such hiccups if you dont follow the simple instruction first. Many people have habit to extract/save everything on desktop. C drive means C root location of C drive. And you must be logged in as "ADMINISTRATOR USER" on windows 7/8 to avoid access/permission issues.

I'm used to Linux rather than Windows and when possible I put things in a user's home directory rather than the root directory. Since all that the instructions said was C drive, I interpreted that to mean anywhere on the C drive, not the root directory. Now that I put the program in the root directory, everything worked perfectly.
Thanks for your guide!
I just rooted my p769. I had a few hiccups.
Line 5a says optional, but really it's a necessary step if you've never done it once. If you've edited your HOSTS file and are running shttp, then it's not gonna be able to download/update what it needs to. Close shttp and rem out the lines in HOSTS until it updates, the continue as normal.
shttp has to be extracted in C:\
Mine ran from desktop but the 127.0.0.0:9002 test for the girls picture was file not found, look at shttp dialog window and you see it couldn't find the file because it wasn't where it expected it..
Also did you forget to right click and edit UpTestEX_mod2_marwin.exe compatibility tab if you're running win7/8 like it says to?
Once I set it all up according to the image in the thread and clicked "Normal web upgrade test" it gave me an error box. Saying to setup Tool > B2C Client Setup.
After that it was easy sailing. Well other than the fact that some of the KDZ/bin files were either missing, deleted or dropbox blocked the account for excessive use..
I am having issues with the casual install. I have tried the latest builds but I couldnt get them to connect. Any help would be great. It pretty much errors out without doing anything after the Heimdall script. It appears to be rooted but I dont know what all is supposed to be done when Heimdall runs. Any help would be great. New user to this sight, I'm a noob to this but not electronics and programming.

Make sure you have all anti virus/security software disabled including Microsoft Security essentials/windows defender. That and driver problems are the two main culprits for issues using CASUAL.
Once you have done that, reopen CASUAL and try it again. If it fails, post your paste bin log link. Don't paste your log here, just the link. Without the log its difficult to see what's going on

Hi ,
Yesterday, I installed ubuntu touch in my nexus 4 and decided to use it as my daily rom.
So, i tried to modify some settings. Everything is working well, however i have two problems.
The first one : I failed to synchronized contacts with syncevolutions. It's working but it synchronise only one or few contacs in my .csv file. As a solution i used google contacts sync. But if somebody have (or had) the same problem it can be interesting to share the solution with evryvody.
The second one : I tried to change the browser app settings, but it didn't work. I used these two websites to help me :
"bazaar.launchpad.net/~phablet-team/webbrowser-app/trunk/view/head:/README#L71" and
"lists.launchpad.net/ubuntu-phone/msg10301.html" I removed the first part, because i'm not able to post outside links.
According to the first website, we can change the homepage and the searche engine, you can use the second website to understand how to do it, i followed the instructions, but it didn't work for me. So, if somebody want to try or already have the solution, it would be amazing.
Thanks.
Edit : Apparently It is now possible to change the search engine directly in the browser (18 June update)
Although it's about calendar sync, this might be helpful: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ubuntu-touch/help/calendar-app-doesnt-sync-t3054933
What's the content of your browser settings files? I have that working fine for me here.
Code:
[email protected]:~$ cat ~/.config/webbrowser-app/settings.conf
homepage=https://duckduckgo.com
searchengine=duck
allowOpenInBackgroundTab=true
[email protected]:~$ cat ~/.local/share/webbrowser-app/searchengines/duck.xml
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<OpenSearchDescription xmlns="http://a9.com/-/spec/opensearch/1.1/">
<ShortName>Duck Search</ShortName>
<Description>Search Duck Duck Go</Description>
<Url type="text/html"
template="https://duckduckgo.com/?q={searchTerms}"/>
<AdultContent>false</AdultContent>
<Language>en-au</Language>
<OutputEncoding>UTF-8</OutputEncoding>
<InputEncoding>UTF-8</InputEncoding>
</OpenSearchDescription>
thank you for your answer,
so i only had some problems in my duck.xml files, and it is working now.:good:
Thanks for everything, it might help other people too.
PS: i don't know have to change the title to [SOLVED]
Great to hear that. I'm glad that it's working now.
If you're using the web interface, you can click on the edit button below the first post, then on "Go Advanced" and then you can edit the title.

The file and directory isn't created by default. You have to create it manually.
Btw, a settings UI is coming soon.
Thx

Ok, I thought I only had to modify an existent file
I'll try...

The file is automatically generated on devel-proposed build 166 now. However, it's called webbrowser-app.conf there.
If you're on the stable channel, expect that your browser settings will break in the future. However, you'll simply have to apply your changes to the new file then.
Hello,
I decided to install ubuntu touch again after all the new things they made.
However, changing the browser is no more working for.
I just wanted to know if there was another way to do it or if it was only my fault ?
Moreover, is that possible to uninstall preinstalled scopes like 7digital, amazon, ebay ... ?
@Remy.L There is just one browser for Ubuntu (except one third party browser). You can switch tabs by swiping up from the bottom edge though.
No, uninstalling preinstalled scopes isn't possible using the GUI as long as they aren't in the store.

Now I get what you mean with "changing the browser". There should be a settings option in the browser itself now (install the update from this week if you haven't already). Give it a try.
If there is still something you want to change manually, check out the contents of the browser's data directory. I think they renamed the settings file.

Sorry, i did not mean browser but search engine (replace google by duckduckgo).
I did not managed to have it working in the new version.
Anyway, do not bother you, i'm not using ubuntu touch anymore because i'm do not like that path they are taking with this OS (you can not uninstall what you do not want).
As i prefer to use open source software, the best thing to do now is to use an AOSP rom (or maybe firefox OS)
Thanks a lot for all your answers and have a nice day
PS: Sorry for my English, i'm not totally fluent
Edit : Apparently with the new version it is possible to change and chose the search engine you want.:good:
However, I guess that it is still impossible to remove unwanted stock scopes (however, as it is possible to remove unwanted stock apps, it may be possible to do it soon)

You could try removing them with the terminal-app like this:
Code:
sudo click unregister --user=phablet com.ubuntu.badscope
That should actually work. Pretty much everything can be uninstalled, even though not easily.

Ok tried to use this command, however if i want to uninstall amazon scope, it says to me that com.ubuntu.amazon does not exist.
Moreover it seems that we still cannot change the search engine directly in the browser ( I tried the devel/ubuntu version via Multirom)

You need to find out the right package name of the amazon scope (given that it is installed as a click package, of course; I was unable to find it using "click list").
The reason why you don't see the option to change the search engine is that the devel builds are really, really outdated. I think they are half a year old or something like that. Either install the stable channel or devel-proposed.
Ok, thank you for all your answers, it may help a lot of people
Unfortunatly I broker my Nexus 4 screen last week (I'm planning to repair it but not yet [in few month]) so i can not try this rom right now.
Once more, thanks again for your help and for your answers,
Have a nice day
Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Did you know that the Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition has just been released?

Hi nikwen,
I'm back on this forum because i repaired my nexus 4. Everything is now workinh, and the rom seems very nice.
However it is still impossible to uninstall unwanted scopes (like amazon) even with the terminal. (impossible to know the name of the scope).
I also tried this sudo dpkg --get-selections >liste but it does not list the scopes name.
Thank you for all your answers

Hi,
Yes, there's been a discussion about this on the ubuntu-phone mailing list recently. The reason why they can indeed not be uninstalled is that they are remote scopes with the code lying on a Canonical server and not on the device itself. I didn't follow the whole discussion, so if you are interested, check out the mailing list archive and you should be able to find the conversation within the first 5 pages.
Hi Nikwen,
So i checked your link and found what i needed
So yes, it is impossible to uninstall these scopes like you said, the only way is to keep it without using it.
But the thing i was thinking about is : If you do not use these scopes does it still get informations from you (in background) ? (because and do not want it to use my data continuously)
Sorry for all these questions
Have a nice day,
Remy
@Remy.L No, they won't be giving any information away. Scopes only run when they are in the foreground and even if they are, they are confined by a software called "apparmor", which means that they cannot access any data besides that which you enter into the search box. They don't have access to any of your private stuff.

I have no problem installing the Game but I have found past a certain version of the game, after the install it will return "Device is not Valid". It is an android generic message not an error from the game. I believe that the new versions are checking the device somehow and returning information that it is installed on an emulator. A few of the ideas I have run across are to put a figure in the IMEI field inside the emulator. Same result. What else am I able to change that would send a false positive to trick the game into believing the emulator is in fact a "Valid Device"?

Any ideas? Anyone?
I am trying to set up a PPP connection from a Zte MF820b 4G LTE USB modem/router to a WiFi only Android tablet with a 4.2.2 os that has a custom ROM installed which technically shouldnt of been jailbroken. The tablet is running a Linux version 2.4.3 and KERNEL:3.0.36. The problem here is me. I am a complete newbie, but do know a little about command prompts and how this should work in theory. The tablet is fully rooted and has all the necessary applets installed via busy box(chat, nc, pppd, ect) and terminal emulator, or at least I think that's what's necessary. I installed PPPwidget 2 and 3 but as apk's and since they are not from the Play Store will not function. I have Google play store installed but its all but useless since I can not log into my account, for reasons I suspect as being that the system is too old and says something about the connection not being secure or private and as such...can not actually get the app with license verification from Google play store. I tried to lucky patch the apk and remove license verification but that did nothing as well. However the apk will read the modem and ask permission to allow pppwidget to be used but shortly fail after for the aforementioned lack of correct license. There must be a way to manually call the modem and connect via terminal emulator using adb ppp or nc? Without any understanding on how to actually write a script I'm hoping someone can help me get this functioning. Situation beyond current controll will not allow me to work with anything other than what's at hand, and I'm willing to pay for someones time if I can actually get this working. I also have a tablet with a different os (8.1 Oreo) should that be easier. With the 4.2.2 the device pops up as "storage" in my file manager. With the 8.1 it pops up as a device Id number when I type in lsusb in my terminal emulator. The 8.1 has Termux installed should that open up a different venue. The carrier I'm using is T-Mobile and the nameserver and ISP info is NS1-AUTH.SPRINTLINK.NET; IP 206.228.179.10. The device is functional as when the opportunity arose I was able to plug up to a computer and try it out. That's no longer viable. Again, I'm willing to pay for the help as I'm sure I'll need to correspond back and forth a few times and will probably need help writing the correct script if needed. Please email me @ [email protected]. Thank you.
