ics 3g vs H - Huawei MediaPad, T-Mobile SpringBoard

Well I did the update stuck my sim card in the device and it works well.phone calls and textswork good. In the begining itsaid 3G on the signal bar. Today I took the tablet outside my home and after an hour the 3G turned into a H. While in the H mode I can't acess the web browser but in 3G it worked well. The other issue I have is in the 3G mode netflix doesn't seem to connect. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?

After doing some searching I have read that the springboard cannot do talk/text AND web bur only talk/text which really sux. So has anyone found out a way to make it possible to use all three features?

3G means base UTMS. H means HS*PA, 3,5G, standard that improves performance.
Android always switching to HS*PA, when some app requires internet connection and it's supported by network. When no apps seeking for connection Android reverts to base UMTS to improve network availability and to safe battery.
You need to check network settings. Or better contact your operator for that. Everything should work unless your operator have a problem with HS*PA.
But something tells me you are not honest with us. It didn't work for you in 3G. But you just installed Android 4 and forgot to mention that you didn't try yet mobile data on Android 4. You think that it was working in 3G because Android 3 based firmwares missed H icon, but in fact every time you connected by mobile network, device was switching into HS*PA mode without letting you know.
So there 3 points to you:
1. Check if APN is set correctly;
2. Check if you installed correct ROM that support bands of your operator (there is a lot of different versions - 301u, 301w, 302u, 303u etc);
3. Make sure HS*PA is not broken on operator side.

2. This is the rom I installed " [ROM][ICS] [UNOFFICIAL] Root-ready Huawei MediaPad/SpringBoard ICS International" doyou know of one that works with S7-303u
3. I doubt my carriers HS*PA (T-Mobile) is broken.
And why would I lie in a forum? After I installed the rom I put my cell phones sim card in the device and it was showing 3G signal. I opened the brower and it went to my home page (Google.com) I checked e-mail... after I noticed the signal turned to H icould no longer access the web in either 3G or H. Whenever I opened the browser it just goes straight to T-Mobile login and it wasn't doing it before.

Can't say anything about it further of what i've said. Don't know T-Mobile settings and don't know if 301u version would fully work on 303u. That thread says HSPA+ (or as they call it 4G) wouldn't work with 301u firmware. But theoretically HSDPA, HSUPA and HSPA should work, unless T-Mobile have different set of bands.
You better ask in that thread. May be there is someone with T-Mobile experience.

At last - did you try to reboot? Mediapad's radio hangs sometimes. It's pretty common for Android.

These are modems that are tested. Other modems might work as well.
To setup your modem follow the instructions below:
Go to settings (press the status bar in the low right corner) and press <More...> and you will see the following:

Select <Access Point Names>. when you come to the Access Point Page you click in the top right corner and select <New APN>.
This is the tricky part where you fill in the GSM operators settings. You can find settings for the most popular networks here. If your operator is not included you will have to ask the operator. The screenshot below shows the settings for Safaricom, Kenya:
When all settings are filled in press the arrow in the lower left corner and you are done.

Sorry 2all
Sorry to all this will not work. I take that manual from other site. It say Andtoid 4 3G Setup (original link in #1 post). I test it my self. No success.
Than i unpakced firmware to find out files like (gprs, pppd-ril.options, usb_wwan.ko, etc), some of them presents in firmware, others dissmised.
So the only way getting 3G via dongle, is custom firmware.

Well if u have to use 3g/data connection outside wifi range just use your cellphone as a wifi hotspot. Most people carry a cell and most of todays phones can do this

thanks, i know how to go to web via phone by changing wpa_suplicant2 file. But i want to connect via dongle.
I dont know how real this is, I have rooted my TF201 and no where do I see the mobile network on a stock rom, I have it on my phone yet I dont have it here, and also there would have to be drivers for the USB modem to be entered, this isnt a simple task, the only one i have found is in the UMTS app from the market, and even then this doesnt work, I just want a USB modem installed, I dont want to use my phone as the WIFI defeats the purpose of having a USB modem, surely someone has done this on a stock rom

MIZ Z2 WIFI Connected :: Gray signal bars :: no internet

Miz Z2 MTK6589 Quad core 1.2Ghz CPU Android Phone 5.0 inch Screen(1280*720 HD IPS) 1GB RAM 8GB ROM 12MP Camera
Since I bought this new MIZ Z2, I am not able to connecto any wifi signal
I have to say phone is great except the wifi problem it is causing me too much trouble.
WIFI shows connected, wifi bars signal remains 'gray color'. not 'blue bars'. so I can not connect to internet through my wifi, although it shows it is connected. but i am not able to.
I have tried resetting the phone, restarting the phone and router, but no use. tried on four different wifi spots(my college, my friend's house), at no place it ever connected to WIFI. Infact it shows "IPv4 address: unavailable". it is running Android 4.2.2, there is no option for ''Static IP address" or IPv6 address. some time it shows message : "navbar err x 01" and then I found somewhere about the replacing WiFI and CUSTOM WIFI files in data/navram folder. I restarted the phone after replacing files, but still no luck
I have tried searching the internet, and tried various tricks mentioned there, but none of them worked.
I have done the following.
1) Turning ON OFF phone and router-- no good
2) resetting the phone to factory settings --no good
3) clearing the cache in apps >> google service framework >> clear cache >> stop >> and restarting the phone --- no good
4)changing the broadcasting channel at my router, disabling wpa keys and tried to connect to open wifi networks-----no good
5) replacing WIFI and CUSTOM WIFI files
So far, I have found no solution. can anyone out there guide me in right direction..
Many thanks in advance

turn on your data connection, set your APN and restart!
I got it working finally.
Below is what worked for me, it may or may not work for others having same issue:
1) Settings >> Sim Management >>> Data Connection ::: select your favorite sim having activated data plan.
2) no go back to Settings menu again and tap on 'More'>> Mobile Networks...Make sure Data Connection is ON. select 3G service on with your favorite sim.
3) Go to Access Point Names. Select your sim with data plan, Tap on it and it ll open new screen and now tap on the left side of menu button on your phone and click "New APN" .
4) here pls enter the details such APN name(anything), APN, username and password (if you dnt know these three i.e. APN, username and password, you may have to ask you mobile network provider)
5)press the square buttons again and tap "save" and exit the setting menu
now go back all the way and try to connect WIFI again. It still did not work for me so, At this point I restarted my phone and when my phone was turned back on WIFI bars were blue and I was able to log into playstore.
[optional]: I turned off my data connection after wifi was fixed and since then wifi did not drop a connection nor shown anymore "gray signal bars"
So internet is working fine now
PS: please do note that I did replace my WIFI and CUSTOM WIFI files earlier, but it did not make any difference at that time. So not sure, this made any difference or not. but try above at your own risk!

[Q] Turn Off 3g but leave lte on

I have rooted my phone and was wondering if anyone knows a way to turn off 3g but leave lte on.The reason for this is i live in a weak lte signal area but get the connection consistently but it constantly drops to 3g and then never switches back without me putting the phone into airplane mode and then it will reconnect.
Modify the build.prop as in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=54349766
That's the only way I know of, and I haven't tried it to know for sure.

If you do this, would you still be able to receive text messages or MMS? Unless I'm wrong (and I could be) doesn't SMS/MMS go through the 3g network?

I honestly don't know. LTE is weak where I am so I can't test it out.
Just back up your original build.prop before, if you decide to try it.

I would not recommend changing these values. I only updated the ro.telephony.default_network and my phone started acting strangely. I tried values 0 through 12. I had an issue where the phone would not allow me to keep wifi off and it wouldn't connect to 3G or LTE. In order to resolve this I had to go back to 10 and reboot twice. It was not a Sprint Connections Optimizer issue from what I could tell... at least the menu option wasn't showing as checked.
If you do decide to change these values it seems that you may need to reboot twice for the new value to be picked up and sometimes you won't be able to resolve the issue without going into the settings and putting it back to CDMA/LTE.
None of the values appeared to force the phone to stay on LTE. Any one of the ones where data worked would go back to 3G a minute or so after connecting to 4G in a weak 4G area.
I used the build prop editor on the play store and then verified that the values were actually updated in root explorer.
UPDATE:
I also tried updating the ro.build.target_operator to OPEN and while I did get the brightness slider and some different icons wifi calling went away and lost the ability to select networks (Global, CDMA, LTE/CDMA, etc.) in the settings menu.

I ran into the same situation as you so maybe there isnt a way yet.
I found a way to force 4G LTE only and easily control other network modes. The xposed module Xorware 2g/3g/4g switcher and Xorware all in one widget work perfectly. See screenshots for how mine is configured. Note you will need to install both xposed modules from Xorware.

Set that up and it isn't working. Actually kills all mobile data connections until I go into settings and choose my "Network Mode" again. When I do go to the "network mode" screen, none of the bubbles are checked. Is this broken or am I?
-Roger
It works fine for me. One thing i noticed.... In 4g mode it connects to gsm and the spinning icon is different. It seems to be a DIFFERENT 4g network than the standard sprint Lte. Weird. I can see this by looking at the lte discovery app. Maybe this causes 4g roaming on another network? 3g settings work fine though... I get lte as i normally would and it falls back to 3g when it normally would.
Also you have to wait for a minute for everything to reconnect. Does the 3g setting work ok for u?
While I am getting 4G when forcing it it does seem that I am connected to a GSM (read, not a Sprint) tower. See screenshots for proof. It is a different tower than my normal towers.
Do you have to pay for this app?? Because it surely looks like I have to pay to use those features.

I found the solution!!!!
The proper module is available in the play store. It is Intelli3G by Voidv Apps. It is free and in english. It does the GSM in a circle thing like the other guy said.
URL : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.voidvapps.intelli3g&hl=en
It has not dropped to 3G after the install. I haven't seen what happens in a 3G only part of town, but I will update you later.
UPDATE: Seems to just drop signal until you get back to a covered spot.
UPDATE2: I couldn't make calls :|
I have also switched to using intelli3G. It is a nicer design and only does what I need it to. As mentioned you will lose connectivity if you can't get a 4G signal. So doing this is really only good for forcing a 4G connection when you have a weak one. I really only care to use this if I'm traveling and need to tether since most Hotel wifi isn't fast enough for streaming Netflix. For some reason it seems a lot of the hotels I stay in are right on the border of a 4G connection... probably due to the lower penetration of the Sprint LTE band.

[Q] How do you "Forget" out-of-range Wi-Fi networks???

I've looked all over the place, but there does not appear to be a method to "Forget" a Wi-Fi connection unless you are in range of the Access Point. Does anyone know where the S6 stores all the saved Wi-Fi connection profiles? They do not appear under Settings -> Wi-Fi, that only shows you the ones that are currently in range, not your previously saved profiles.
I'm asking because I'd like to delete all the unsecured APs I've connected to in the past, due to the recent kepboard security bug announcement. I don't want to accidentally go in range of a stored unsecured network and put my phone at further risk.
I'm answering my own question. I had to go out and download a 3rd party Wi-Fi manager app in order to display the saved out-of-range networks. Why this functionality is not built into the stock OS is beyond my wisdom.
Not sure why it doesn't work on yours, but on my S6 Edge (Verizon) I can go into settings, wifi, more, manage networks, and then long-press any entry and select "forget".
Same problem here, on unlocked and fully updated S6. There's no "manage networks" available in the Settings->Wi-Fi->More menu. Had to use 3rd party app to forget the networks...

Better to just get used to it, or go with a different manufacturer, the direction Samsung has been going the last couple years screams iPhone. Just look at how they built the s6, s6 edge. It's only a matter of time before everything they make will be running tizen.

Just my opinion but I think the S6 is the best Galaxy they've made, both hardware and software. Very few issues with my S6 apart from this wifi network management.
I just wish they would release a Gear S2 running Android Wear instead of Tizen...
I downloaded the WiFi Manager app and when I try to delete an old Wifi network, my S6 gives me an error message that says that WiFi networks can only be deleted from the app they were created in, which means it can only be deleted in Samsung's own WiFi Settings screen
The WiFi Manager third party app has an option to list Known Networks. Touching one brings up the option to forget it.
Unfortunately all you get under Nougat is a message that Android 6 only allows changes by the app that created the entry.
If the network is within range you can go to Settings / Connections / WiFi, touch a memorized network, and options come up including "Forget." But only if it's within range.
To forget "linksys", which my S7 insists on connecting to wherever it finds one, I took an old wifi router, configured it with the SSID "linksys", and was then able to see and forget it in Settings / Connections / WiFi.
It shouldn't be this hard.
?
This is the Method: Suppose you want to forget wifi network (test) Create a hotspot of another phone named (test) Security type>Wpa2 Passwork:12345678 Now turn on your s6 wifi Click forget enjoy

Possible to connect to wifi AND cellular data at same time?

Hi all. I have a new Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV s-edition 2017, who got app control through wifi spot from car. However, the wifi range is horrible, so I was wondering if you guys know of any phone that can be connected to both wifi net (without internet) and same time connected to internet through cellular data (3g or 4g)
What I want:
Have a phone in car, connected to the cars wifi net (no internet) and through perhaps an app like airdroid, connect to that phone, and that way connect to the car through internet.
I have tried this with honor 7, but this so called smart phone, either is on wifi with no internet, or cellular data with internet. It will not work on both nets at same time.
Is the any android phone this would work on, or is there any workaround/hack to make this work. Surely, this has to be possible?
-Thanx, Ray

If your android running on marshmallow then there is a option in developer setting of cellular data always active. Turn that feature on and connect to mobile data and wifi simultaneously.
Ashwinirg answered the question, but I want to throw in that there are services, like Speedify, which claim some sort of "channel bonding" that merge your WiFi with your data connection to enhance your speed. I have no idea if Speedify or similar services actually work, but if you're interesting in enabling wifi + cellular data together, you might want to look into those services also.

Don't know if it is available in android nougat but it may be it available on marshmallow then it also available in Nougat..
Update:
So I bought myself a Lenovo p2, cause of its bigger battery, but it seems like it's not able to go between cellular data and wifi seamlessly like honor 7 did. It got the same options in developer mode, but it's not working.

Certain apps work if set right. It's kind of like downloading a torrent. Multiple connections work together to transfer the same file resulting in much faster speeds.
