Unsuccessful Odin Kernel install, lead to load screen lock - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-I777

So, I'm sure this has been asked before, and I've been able to find similar questions with extremely technical answers. I am a layman trying to root my I777 for better access and increased stability. I, however, seem to have been given an Odin I9100 kernel, rather than the SGH-I777 kernel that I was searching for (a friend helped me find it who roots every phone he has). I installed the Odin kernel, without selecting flash and now I am stuck at the load screen where it displays [Samsung Galaxy SII : GT-I9100] along with an exclamation point. It has been sitting like this for around 45 minutes now with no load.
Could someone explain (or link) a simple thread that they know about that could allow me to restore and start again? I'd rather not have a $500 brick sitting in my house right now. Again, I'm sorry that this is likely a repost, but I cannot understand most of the jargon that is being said in the threads that I have found.

Thank you, if all goes well I will delete this thread to reduce spam of stupid noob questions listed on the website. Oh wait, I forgot. I read both of these threads. I searched the keywords I needed, I scoured the threads for 6 pages and to no avail. The only threads I saw had responses like this. I doubt that constitutes as viable help. I even searched outside of the forums...

I actually had a similar problem not even 2 days ago. The best advice I got was to research CWM (Clockwork recovery) and learn how to flash through it. The XDA wiki is also a great tool to pick up on some of the more basic concepts, like what a kernel even does (communicates the software to the hardware).

hmmmm.....
i wonder why everyone says read the stickies.....

Wow I wish I saw this thread before I figured out how to flash through CWM, the process would of been much simpler.

[Q] Rom manager not working, any simple alternates?

I managed to root my phone and install Rom manager from the marketplace so I could flash a stock 2.2 rom (instead of the 02 one I have)
But I cannot get it to boot into clockwork recovery or install from SD card.
any ideas?

Its 02, I installed Rom manager (previously clockwork mod). I successfully flashed the recovery but when It reboots it doesn't boot into recovery.
Flash THIS Recovery
Or THIS Recovery
And both will let you into recovery but you can only flash a custom rom with those recoverys
If you want to flash THE OFFICIAL 2.2 Then Flash THIS Recovery
Hope that helps
Edit: Ah posted at the same time.. will have a look and report back shortly, thanks!
EDIT 2: Ok, had a look.... how to I flash recovery's? ROM manager has the option to use different recovery greyed out? And there no way im doing that fastboot, takes far too long!
So have you figured out that ROM Manager doesn't work for the Streak?
Hmm... QDL and Fastboot seem to take a little less time than say AT&T OTA
Start Here:
http://streakdroid.com/?page_id=92
What I missed ? Everytimes , I tries to flash a new rom on my Dell Streak , with Rom Manager , when I finished the step " reboot and install " , then my Streak simply rebooted and then no further action taken .
To everyone trying to use ROM Manager on the Streak:
STOP!
ROM Manager has never worked on the Streak and continuing to try to use it will only result in headaches on your part. The only accepted method of flashing a ROM on a Streak is through the Recovery. Speaking of the Recovery, it should NOT be Clockworkmod, because that recovery doesn't work properly with the Streak. Streakmod is the recommended recovery.
Now, had you ROM Manager guys actually searched the forums you would have found this out rather than posting yet another thread on how the app doesn't work.
Next time use the damn search engine on this site. It's not there just to make the site look pretty, and in using it you will in fact be following the site's rules.

you all over the place with this. You are my hero right now.
Sadly the folks will still post without searching.
Quite honestly, I have little enough patience for people as it is. People who seek the "quick fix" and are unwilling to put the time in to learn about their devices are annoying enough. Lazy ass people who can't be bothered to spend the time looking for answers to their questions before posting are a plague. Both deserve to be taken to the back of the tool shed and flogged.
I believe from now on, in addition to calling out people for being total idiots, I'll be reporting the posts as well. Because this bulls**t has got to stop. Searching before posting is the number one site rule on XDA, and it's about damn time it gets enforced. The only way for it to BE enforced is by letting the moderators know about it.

Post #2 is from the moderator, too often these threads get shuffled around and are not closed and/or deleted.
Yeah, I know Lufc moved the thread. He's pretty proactive on that. But unless people report the thread as violating the site rules he really can't do much about it.
I've been pretty lenient in just posting reminders to get the noobs and lazy people among us to actually use the tools that are present on this site. But my patience for that crap is at an end. If someone can't be bothered to use the search tools on this site, expect to be called out on it and the post reported.
EDIT: Looking back at the thread, can someone explain to me just how in the heck you can come upon a thread that details the problem you are having and not at least read the thread before you post to it?
I'm starting to notice a trend. I think that as our phones get older more people are ditching them, selling them, and the new owners are stumbling on XDA.
I know I was a total Android noob when I got my Streak, but had been on XDA for a while, so was well aware of the search function. Not to mention reading the stickies.
I think this is gonna keep getting worse!

Ohh Heavenly XDA Fascinate forums please guide my rooting and CWM install!

Hello....
So i found a guy on craigslist to trade my Droid 2 for the Fasicnate, drove thirfty miles to his house and listend to him freak out for 35 mins as i explained the benifits of my droid 2 and it being rooted and he seriously begain hyperventelating because he was dead straight afraid of being arrested........ I was about to just.... i dont know, the word run came to mind... Anyway.
WHat a beautiful phone, i mean it you guys have got something here, and im glad i added this to my growing list of android device's this is my fifth since my first love The G1.
Anyways,
I presumed and though i could install Cyanogenmod on it that was the immediant reason i got it, i didnt do any reaseachr and now know that u can but it runs really ruff and isnt supported... so.
I modded via this cyanogen wiki
http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=Samsung_Fascinate:_Rooting
i got all the way to the part about installing rom manager and flashing CWM,
However i went to do this (yes im rooted) and all i get is when i flash cwm and i try to reboot into cwm from rom manager to make a backup is i get to the samsung 2e recovery screen ..
A little more research i see something that i need to install or excuse me i need a program called odin, and i need the cwm packaged via this thread but the CWM package is no longer hosted...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788099
But, one im not completly sure that is what i need to do and two im seein what i think is a bunch of diff versions of baseband like D101 ect However i see on mine that the last of my baseband is Dh12 actually its all s:i500.04 v.dh12
SHould i be downgrading here? And its best to assume while i have rooted and taken the virginity of the G1, Eris, Droid, Droid 2 Droid X and now this beyond what i have described here is my limited experience with this phone.
Also bear in mind that this phone was factory reset when i got it, and was 100% virgin. It is now rooted but that is it. I really wanted to get back to "my roots" like my G1 and have a fully modable phone from kernal on up and was stoked to get this. But im lost and i cant seem to find much help else where, or what appears to be people telling me to reroot and i know that is incorrect.
Can you all point me in the right direction please!
My sincere apprecation and thanks for your help and acceptace of my sporatic typeing.
Don't have a chance to read this atm but before you get flamed..you should post this in the general or Q and A section instead..

First, welcome to the Fascinate forums. Second, please try to faimilariaze yourself with the rules here. This thread should have gone in Q&A and you are quite likely to get flamed for it eventually.
As for your questoin-- We don't have a fully functioning AOSP, CM6, or 7 yet but what we have is pretty close. If you can live without MMS, Camcorder, and BT headset then you should give one them a shot. If not, stick with one of the Touchwiz builds such as Nitro's Evil Fascination or Adrylnalyn's Superclean.
Nitro has linked you to all the necessary software. As for using Odin, please reference this thread.

Got all the links you could ever ask for from nitro. Just install Odin on your comp and install the Samsung drivers. Then just go to the link for the older cwm and d/l the necessary file.
Remove battery from the phone and while you're holding the volume down.button plug the phone into.your.computer. it'll show a yellow android and say downloading.
Click PDA and choose the file you downloaded for cwm 2.5 and click start. Once it.says pass on Odin you're done.
Even easier, get one of the packagaes from one of these threads it includes adryns froyo rom, the modem for.froyo and the recovery. I don't feel like finding the link but if you get that it's easy its just one big file that you flash with Odin (the same.way you do with cwm) and when its done you got a froyo fascinate with a solid touchwiz rom from adryn

Hey Mortland,
Welcome to these forums. I am still fairly new here at XDA. Just to clarify and help you understand what everyone was referring to. I believe if I read them correctly, the rules about the Development section say posts and especially new threads in the development section should be limited to things that are directly related to development of a ROM, kernel, or MOD. This is so the development forum is used for improvements to existing ROMs, kernels, or MODS, or development of new ROMS, kernels, or MODS so the developers doing this work do not have to wade through a laundry list of threads or non-development questions in order to get the information they need. So if you have questions about development, or want to report a bug or problem you have discovered with a ROM, kernel, or MOD, then you come here and post. If it is a question on how to install or use a ROM, kernel, or MOD, then I guess it is supposed to go over in the Q&A section. I know it can seem kind of confusing, so the only reason for me posting is to hopefully help clear up any of the confusion. Hope this has helped, and definitely follow nitrogliceryne's advice and help. Good luck.
Mods and devs,
Sorry if this long post has cluttered things up even more. Just trying to help.

Can't we just request that MOD move it to the Q&A section? Especially since some good links were posted there? No sense being a wanker about it, except that it can be fun if you woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.
I know it makes all the "experienced" users feel good to bash every new guy that posts in the Development Thread but something really should have occurred to the community at large by now:
If this is happening something like 15 times per day, maybe the thread title should be renamed to Developers ONLY or Not for Q&A (or something like that)...although I'm kind of guessing that it's an auto-naming thing that they have set up for each new device that gets listed on the forums, so that might not be an option.
Usually I'm not very into getting threads moved when they're placed where they are but this thread is just straight ridiculous. Hyperventilating, seriously?
We need to have some sort of HTML implemented that allows any user to click the button and flag the thread for being moved. Not flagged for being inappropriate or reporting, just flagged for need of being moved to another section.

[Q] Recovery Partition?

Hi all, oddly, I can't seem to find a clear answer to this from searching and Google. Does the SII have a separate recovery partition? I see chainfire has created a customised CWM to be deployed with his kernel, but I was puzzled by this as coming from a HTC world, I was wondering how CWM backups up the ROM partitions (or more importantly restores them) if they are in use.
TIA
m

no one?
I would also like to know how this works. Coming from 3 previous HTC phones and buying a SGS2 tomorrow, I wouldn't mind finding out how to root, nandroid and flash correctly.
I know all about Odin already.
Is this the only way?

I take it this was a reply to MrBadgerMilk's question? I've looked at the FAQ in the dev section and used search and can't see the answer to the question of whether the SII has a separate recovery partition. Hopefully the people that know (and some will) could just post a yes or no.
Right... http://bit.ly/SGS2answer
Now that's over, no, the SGS2 doesn't have a separate recovery partition. The zImage contains the recovery binary, and another init script is run, when recovery is to be entered, from the standard zImage.
Now that was the answer I was looking for. Thank you very much.
EDIT: Is the video some Samsung secret initiation ritual thing?

Tbh, I think i came off as a bit of a plank. If you keep an eye out for chainfire 'Root/kernel' threads in the dev section you can go far wrong.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 for step by step guide on how to flash via Odin, and the official roms. I've had the sgs2 for a month now, and after trying the (now deceased) angelom rom, and litening rom, I went back to stock KE7. and tbh, it feels just as quick as the 'customs'. The only thing I would advise is to remove(or freeze) the samsung bloat by using titanium backup. There is another thread somewhere with a list of things you can remove without affecting functionality.

[Q] Yellow Triangle at boot

First off I see on this forum that people freak the hell out when you post something that may possibly have been posted at one point in the past, so let me assure you I've searched this forum and the internet in general looking for help with this problem, and found nothing helpful.
I read the FAQ, and the sections here:
I've rooted now why do I have an exclamation point on my loading screen?
Anytime you flash a non-stock kernel in download mode this will appear.

Where do I get a stock Kernel? How exactly do I do this?
Then the next step says something that is completely greek to me, it doesn't seem to have much to do with fixing the Yellow Triangle problem.
I also scoured the internet looking for a fix and most of it involves the International version of the phone.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'd love to get rid of that annoying little triangle.

I absolutely DID read the FAQ.
My question is not answered in the FAQ, and if you would have read it, you'd know that.
I've looked at every sticky in the forum, the one at the top does not address this.
Can I get a link to the sticky? If it's the one posted below that doesn't help me either. I've already rooted and installed Cyanogen 7 on my phone, now all I need to do is get rid of the yellow triangle
I mean, would it have taken you as long to help me out as it did to come on here and yell at me? I read over the forums for hours, did google searches, so I came here.
Isn't this a place to get help? If so, why are there dickheads just trying to **** in your cereal here?
Thank you Defnow, that was extremely helpful.
It worked, I now have a splash screen with no triangle, but unfortunately it doesn't get any further than that. I now just have a black screen after the spash screen. Any ideas on how to remedy this?
Will using a jig get rid of the ROM and kernel I already have flashed onto my phone, or will it just remove the YT and reset the counter? I've been curious about this for a while now.

Just yt and counter. Won't touch anything else.

Only the yt and it will reset the counter.

Please use the new ZergRush method to root your phone. It's much safer and does not require kernel swap or flash anything. It will not show YT because you didn't flash anything at all.
As for OP, you need read MUCH more before start doing things like flashing ROM or kernel. Take any shortcut will only put you in a fast track to brick(ed) land which from what I saw is exactly where you are now.

The issue is you rooted in a way that tripped the flash counter.
Which is discussed in the return to stock thread.
And flashing the *stock kernel* back will remove the yellow triangle. Or using a *usb jig*.
Which is discussed.
Your problem is you flashed cm7 before you fixed the yellow triangle issue. The cm7 thread states that it does not support the *stock kernel*. To flash the *stock kernel* would remove cwm, which removes the ability to use cwm (kinda obvious, I know. Just trying to educate the obvious noobs). And since there's no way to boot cm7 on the i777 with stock kernel, you'd be stuck and have to use download mode and odin to return to stock, as you would have no other options.
From the above information, all from existing threads, you have two options.
Option 1
Buy a *usb jig*. Undoes tripping the flash counter and gets rid of the yellow triangle.
Option 2
Use odin to flash back to stock, which will completely remove cm7. The flash counter will still be tripped.
Obviously the *usb jig* will be easier to use and will undo tripping the flash counter. Though it costs money, you have to wait for it to ship, and so far at&t has not been caring about a tripped flash counter.
Thank you for doing research before posting. Understand you read the answer and just did not get it. So when you post and say you've read the stickys and it's not covered, when we know it is, what are we to say? The information is in there. Literally there is a step by step write up dealing with removing the yellow triangle.

great explanation mr. hairy1.
Jig worked great for me...might come in handy down the road as well.

So... let me get this straight.
1. You didnt read the FAQs or stickies that CLEARLY fix/cure/answer your question.
2. Decided to post a thread asking how to get rid of the yellow triangle and for a stock kernel.
3. Didnt read or click on the two posts above this one (that Im quoting) that was posted 45 and 40 minutes before this post.
4. Decided to flame the ones that posted in this thread to help you by calling them "dickheads" and use a horrible analogy to sum things up.
Did I miss anything? You have been here for 9 months and only 4 posts (all of them in this thread) so Im assuming that you do reading here and not posting... so you should have read the FAQs and stickies at the top of the forums. Its not a good idea to flame people for trying to help you. Its not their fault that you didnt read what you were supposed to, or for not reading the two posts above yours that actually point you in the right direction.
Infraction issued due to flaming.

[Q] Newb in need of assistance/direction

OK so after reading and watching and reading some more I thought I could successfully root and then mod my i777 to ICS. Yeah, not so much.
I managed to get the device rooted using some help from GalaxyS2Root.com and using the 2.6.35.7_ZedomaxStockKernel. After that I thought I could install shostock2 however when the install started with CWM it goes for a moment and says "Installation aborted." I tried to do the same with cyanogenmod with the same result. Also wifi won't stay on, but have unrooted and everything goes back to normal.
I searched a great deal for this, but could find nothing. I would love a link to a thread if there is one. Do I need a different kernel? I feel like I followed the directions to a T. I really would like to have ICS and the super user ability, it if wasn't meant to be then that's fine. I can just unroot and wait for official ICS.
Thanks for your patience with my newbness. Any help you can give is greatly appreciated, and I am truly grateful that you guys are here for me to ask.
The links in the sticky at the top of this forum will help you out. Please read all of them carefully before making further modifications to your phone.
You should try to avoid using rooting methods that you don't find on XDA. Go here and grab the stock with root package, and use that to root. After that, download Mobile Odin and use it to install a kernel that includes CWM. Entropy's DD or Siyah will to the trick. After that you should be fine to flash stuff with CWM.
LOL
I still can't believe keep seeing people getting info from that site, GalaxyS2Root.
Stop using that site people.
Thanks!
You guys are great! Thanks for steering back in the right direction.

I'm thinking it has to do with this:
The sticky ATTENTION: AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II General Guide/Walkthrough/FAQ/hints and tips, that EVERYONE is supposed to read when they join XDA, instructs you to read this: How to Easily Root your device. Or watch the video walkthrough.
If you read the info and then decide you want to watch the vid to get another example by sight, something I believe most people would do... I know I did, you will be lead to a thread called ROM's, Kernels, Tools & "How to" I777 SGS2. In this thread the OP made multiple posts in order to separate the information while still giving you everything he believed you would need. In the second post he has a section called "<Tools>" under that it says "For all first timers" and under that it states "Excellent How To Video's".
The first video, credited to zedomax, sends you to the site GalaxyS2Root ...
Then you say that all the information can be found here at XDA ... Well, you are right, that information IS found here on XDA with an external link to "that site".
tl:dr
Not being a **** here just pointing out the reason people are using GalaxyS2Root. A thread started by Red5 (a highly respected member of XDA) includes a link to a thread made by another respcted member of XDA. At this point there is yet another link to another thread that includes the GS2Root link...
You follow the yellow brick road and it leads you to the wizard!
Personally I will only be putting Entropy or Entropy approved rom/kernel/etc. on my GS2 - His work helped me a ton with my old Tilt2.

And this is one of the reasons that shortly after moderator Red5 wrote the new sticky post with the consolodated information in it, I sent him a private message asking him to remove that video from the post, and to also update the OP of the "How to easily Root your device" thread by Jivy26 to include working download links. However, for whatever reason, he chose not to make the changes. I should have pressed the point with him, or our other moderator, but I just let it be.

Huh? I just went back and looked through all my PMs and I have no PM from you. However, I will fix whats needs to be corrected.
Edit: Video walkthrough link removed. As far as the links in the OP from Jivy, are those links not working? Are there other links that are that need to replace the ones in the OP?
Edit 2: Nevermind, I see in the last post you reference to your signature and there you have a post with two working links for rooted KH7 Odin3 packages. Ill replace Jivy's links with yours. Thanks. I also gave you credit in Jivy's post under #3.

@Red5
Thanks for updating both your post and Jivy's post. Here are a couple of suggestions on the links in the "how to easily root" OP:
The items 1 through 4 are the same as and were copied from items 2a through 2d in the Guide "How to Flash Custom Binaries Without Ever Incrementing the Flash counter!!" The links in the Guide are all working as far as I know.
First, the only exception to this is that I can not get any MultiUpload link to work. They just seem to display a blank page in the browser. I don't know if they ever work sometimes or not. This means Entropy512's original thread for the rooting packages, which is linked to in item 4 has unusable links. I just added an additional link in my guide in item 2d to direct people to the download repository for alternative links. "...or if you have difficulty with the links in his thread, there are alternative links for all his files in the Download Repository toward the bottom."
In item 2, you left the MultiUpload link, but you could change it to this one which is in the Guide - "Download "SuperOneClick v2.3.1 - Automatic Driver Installation" from DepositFiles (or look for links here) and extract it to a directory on your hard drive using WinZip or a similar program".
In item 3, you included links for both the unrooted and rooted packages, but this would be confusing to new users since it is a guide on how to easily root. I think you should remove the non-rooted link.

i too made the mistake of following to galaxy s 2 root.com he said that the zedomax for the i9100 would work on my att version. which of course it didn't. please excuse my lack of knowledge as i have previously let others root my device. with the help of the brilliant minds here i was able to get back stock uckk6+root under build number, thanks again everyone, i bow to you. but still showing uckh7 in broadband version. is this an issue other than warranty and when device powers up? if so, not a big deal for me. but i am concerned that it will cause me issues with flashing roms for my I777. i have read for hours but some of this is over my head. PLEASE help! the other issue i have is that the graphics have gone to crap. i mean aweful. if i flash another rom will that fix it or is there something else i need to do? thanks again.

Baseband version is the modem version. Has nothing to do with your firmware version and has no bearing on roms or warranty.
