BBC News app - Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet

Has anyone gotten the current Market BBC News app to play videos? I'm running CM 10.2.1 and have both Flash and MX Player installed but if I select a video that accompanies a news story I get some kind of player with a "loading" circle on the screen--forever.
For a lark I thought to try an old version of the app that I use on my NST (although there is no sound on the NST....) and that version (1.3.4) brings up the MX Player and everything works fine, although I do think the still image resolution is not as good as on the current Market app.
Any solutions (other than continue to use the old version)?

Just in case someone comes across this thread later, I can confirm that version 2.5.3 WW (BBC Mobile News WW) works great on the NT running CM 10.2, videos included

Newer versions after July - No Video on CM
On my Verizon S3, the BBC News app version 3.4.0.43 GNL does not show videos on CM12.1 (nightly 10/30/15) nor has it worked since version 2.5.5 WW. After that, they dramatically changed the app with new features and display capacities. Video has never worked since.
HOWEVER, it works on another ROM, AICP, which has some CM in it, though I don't know what else it's blended with. I wish I could distinguish the issue here because the newer ones are way more interesting than the older version , one of which I have saved via TiBu and restore when I get sick of not being able to watch videos.
It' just occured to me to take a logcat when I try next time.
EDIT: well, I didn't realize I was on a nook thread, but the issue might be the same.

Yeah, I actually prefer the older version. Just don't like a lot of options to wade through and not being able to get rid of stuff I don't want to see. I just recently got an LG Optimus Zone 2 to replace my much-loved Insignia Pilot MP3 player that finally died. I let the BBC app update from the market and it worked fine (running KitKat) but I didn't like it as I said, so I replaced it with the older version, which also works just fine.

CM7 and Moonsoon's Vulkano

Well I am on my third Gingerbread rom (6th overall rom) and I finally have gotten the Vulkano to stream in all situations. Last night I downloaded CM7's nightly build 58 and flashed my G-Tablet. Installation was very smooth using clockworkmod and all 128 apps were restored using Titanium back with no problems. I had wiped and formated just about everything I could before doing the installation. After that I went to the market and downloaded the Vulkano player and at last sucess. I was able to stream from the vulkano both locally and over the internet. I realize some other people have had sucess using Corwins rom (CM7 based), and that was going to be next if this did not work. I had previously tried G-Harmony with no sucess, and then Vegan Tab GB with limited succes. The strange thing with Vegan Tab was it would stream over the internet however it would not stream when I was home locally. Watching the bandwidth I was getting at home the software player seemed to choke everytime it was over 1 mb/sec. When I was out of the house and connected over the internet it worked fine at speeds anywhere from 300-900k. This leads me to believe the hardware accelleration that is now included in CM7 is working with this app allowing it to run over my local network. Another thing that I have struggled with is getting recorded shows downloaded to my G-Tab. Well I still can not get it to work with any rom and the vulkano player but I have a work around for now. By down loading the videos using UPNPdownloader (avlalable in the market for free) you can then watch the recordings using MOBOPlayer or Rockplayer. Now for even better news when Rockplayers asks if you want to use hardware decoding and you answer yes the videos run close to flawlessly. On the other two GB roms it obviously would not work using the hardware decoding. They did run on the roms using the software decoding but they would stutter even at the lowest recorded resolutons. When playing high quality recordings they would be unwatchable due to the delay in video processing in which the sound which was a full 3-5 seconds ahead of the picture. This would make all sense since the Vulkano records in the H.264 video format and if I am not mistaken that is the portion of hardware accelleration that is working. Well I hope this helps someone else.
Lastly I do miss the Vegan Tab interface, the VT Launcher was very smooth and the rom was much more tablet oriented. I can not wait until gojimi includes this in his rom since the rom is CM7 based if I am not mistaken. Please excuse any typos and good luck.

Interesting. I have a vulkano, and am running vegantab with pershoot's latest overclocked kernel - I have not gotten around to getting it set up, but under that other OS (er, iOS?) I would pull over 2Mbit/sec (more like 3) for local HD content, and 1.5+ for remote (yay for comcast HSI) - I should test it out. I'll let you know what I see tomorrow!

Sounds good I am interested to see what happens. I am currently streaming between 1.6 and 2.0 mb/secs locally using the wireless router Verizion put in when I got Fios. My iphone streams locally between 300k - 600k usually.

VeganGinger just gives me a black screen and spinning "buffering" with the Vulkano inside the home. Meh. Not so good!
For the record, Vulkano (Monsoon) refuses to support G Tab and Android 2.2 at all. I'm now in a legal war with these clowns. be careful on CM7 as you may still encounter buffering quite often and screen lockups.
Vulkano issues on CM7 for Evo
I have the Vulkano player working flawlessly on my Nook Color running CM7.1 RC1
However, I cannot for the life of me get it working CM7 and my Evo 4G. Tried the stable and testing builds. I'm still debating if I really want to move to a nighly, but I might just do it to see if it works and restore back to 7.1 RC1.
BTW, I'm so happy they finally have a root process for the Evo 4G on Gingerbread!

Hello,
I am trying to make if possible the android vulkano application to work with 4.4.2 or Lollipop and stream while the screen is off.
This was possible with my 2.3.7. But with newer devices seems impossible. I am digging up some old vulkano posts incase somebody figured this out.
Thank you very much.

[Q] Best versatile build.prop Market Fix?

As I go through yet another build.prop market fix, I can't help but wonder: is there a build.prop market fix (or any kind of fix) that gives you the best of both worlds (all 2.x and 3.x apps are visible in the market, working Flash Player, runs 3.x apps and maybe even Netflix)? If not, anything close to it (I can live without running 3.x apps)?
P.S. - If possible, I prefer to stick with Froyo/2.2 since the display quality and video playback & hardware acceleration performance has been superior to 2.3.x and 3.x ROMs in my experiences so far.
HTC Vision gets Netflix good for GB. I also don't notice anything missing from the market. Guess you could use vegan 5.1.1 and throw in the Netflix patch and then mod build.prop and see what happens. Breaks YouTube app by the by but browser viewing still works peachy.
You can't run 3.0 (Honeycomb) code on 2.3 (Gingerbread) or 2.2 (Froyo).
No build.prop will ever give you that.
The build.prop is the properties of your build....ie what OS, manufacturer, some basic settings and such. Edits of it may allow you to see certain things in the Market but seeing them doesn't mean they will install or run.
If you want Netflix (and now Hulu Plus), CM7.03 stable is your best option. It also sees nearly everything that will function on the tablet in the Market.
I miss nothing from VEGAn5.1.1 now that I'm on CM7.03. I've gained a ton (better stability, WiFi location services, better market (no fixes needed) access, Netflix, etc...
I keep hearing CM 7.0.3 is the best option. It still doesn't have native Nvidia drivers, correct?

That's correct, but they did add in some hardware acceleration code of their own to improve video playback. It's not perfect, but most videos seem to work pretty well for me.

Worked like a charm... except [modded/patched] Netflix doesn't play video for me (it looks like its going to play, shows play/pause and seek control but goes back to the main screen almost immediately). No biggie, I rarely watch Netflix anyway.
I see everything in the market and all the T/HD games actually run. Thanks!
You can clear app data for netflix from manage apps then fix permissions with cwm. This fixes a lot of Netflix issues (chipmunk, slo-mo, bad banding)

Did you just change the device to HTC Vision? Or did you copy a complete build.prop from somewhere? Link?
Thank you!
I just changed it to HTC Vision in build.prop. Netflix also works now (from the Market).

Pandora slow plays every other song & Hulu runs choppy..

Hi All:
So I've checked the different threads / forum topics and while some users have reported this issue on certain ROM's Q&A sections, I dont belive this to be a specific ROM issue as I have installed 2 different ROMS (VeganTab 7.1.0 and CM7 REPACKED - currently on CM7 repacked both ROMs are BL.2). I believe both roms are based on the same verison of droid.
With both ROMs, I;ve tried the following:
ISSUE:
With the newest Pandora installed, play a station. The 1st song plays fine, the 2nd song, play reaaaaallly slow. If you press the skip >> button, the next song play fine, the 4th song will play very very slowy
FAILED TO FIXES
1 - Change ROMS, by NVFlashing DETOX (on goodintentions website) partioning the hdd, doing wipes and flashing ROMs
2 - Cleared Data on Pandora, uninstalling Pandora and redownloading from the market
3 - restoring Pandora from TiBU, clearing Data and relog in.
On another note, I've notice HULU, doesnt play as well as it used to in a Default Browser, Dolphin and Puffin. You can start a show in any of them, video play back is choppy (audio is fine) and after the 1st commercial, the browser will freeze and lock up the device.
Other than that the both ROMS work fine but am looking for input on the issue to remain on these new versions of droid.
Thanks
anyone else experiencing these problems?
I have all these issues and would love to find a fix for it...
Im using VeganTab Ginger Edition right now, when playing Hulu the video will get choppy but the audio plays fine
When this happens sometimes the video will simply stop playing or switch to a black screen
the video will stop everytime the show starts up again after a commercial
sometimes the commercials will even have the video stop playing
If I change the video quality, switch from 288 to 360 to 480 and between when the video stops playing or freezes the video will return
I recently switched to vegan-ginger 7.1. I have the pandora issue but have not tried hulu yet.
I think a lot of them are having the pandora issue but have not seen any fixes for it.
I got the issue after 7.1 also - initially not every other song but in an attempt to resolve the problem I installed latest version Pandora app. Now the symptoms have worsened and I have the same issue - every other song plays slowly.
I tried installing the Hulu app - it plays OK but low res. Netflix did play one movie fast motion, but I did not associate this with the pandora issue and did not look closely.I have not had a repeat. Crackle and Youtube seem OK also.
I tried same fixes as nyciz - NG. Will try factory wipe this w/e - but to be frank i'm kinda getting tired of messing with it. Has anyone found a music app that is as good as pandora that works on vegan 7.1?
Ok so I got my issue resolved but it was by loading the older Vegan 7.0.0
This isn't a true fix but I get hulu and Pandora working.
Caution, this version has issue with new market. I froze old market with TiBu to resolve.

I have heard it is GB... but i run GB on my SGS4G and have no issues with Pandora. I don't want to role back to the earlier Vegantab.
I had "fixed" it once, unfortunately, i don't remember what i did.. (big help i know) If i am not mistaken, i used a difference kernel with the Vegan ROM... I have since tried a few diff ones to to avail.
I guess either the devs don't see this as an issue, or they aren't having it. Pandora is HUGE for me, i use it all the time... would love to have it working on my Tab...but i lack the patients, time, and knowledge to try to find a fix... HELP US DEVS AND ALL YOUR AWESOMENESS!
Pandora Songs Playing Slow as Well
I have a Viewsonic GTablet running CyanogenMod 7, internet solely through wifi, and I'm experiencing the same issue. I thought at first that Pandora was running a slow version of the song but I was mistaken. The first song will play normal and whenever I skip to the next song, the new song will play fine but if I leave it alone, it will play slow. Netflix is the only other streaming app that I've used and it hasn't had this issue. I'm extremely new to the Android platform so any help would be highly appreciated.
It's a bummer since I love Pandora.
Like I said in my post, either no one who has the knowledge to fix it cares, or they simply aren't having the issue.

Same issue with Pandora
I'm having the same issue with Pandora playing every other song slowly. Currently running Cyanogenmod 7.1.0.1. If I go back to running 7.0.3 then the Pandora app works fine. I've gone back and forth several times. I've tried removing data and uninstalling the app, but when I reinstall I get the same problem. I had wondered if it were something with the renaming on the device from harmony to smb_a1002, so I tried to change the build.prop. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get any where with the problem.
Any input or help that we can get would be greatly appreciated.
Had no issues running Pandora on non Ginger Vegan. Updated to 7.1 yesterday and am having the exact 'slowness' issues stated above.
Amazon Cloud player is NOT having any speed/slowness issues...
Regular device music/playlist plays fine.
Any fixes yet for Pandora??
Nope, no one seems to care...I sold my g-tab... lol

Ok guys and gals I think I found a fix:
I sideloaded the new pandora (not on market, just google it) Pandora 1.5.4 Black version. It seems to work fine with no slow down of the songs at least all day...will edit if it fails.
EDIT: AGGGHH it did it again I notice it works fine if you skip but if you let it naturally go to the next song it slows down. It was working fine earlier.......ok I give up....
Did not work for me either. Thanks for posting

I know for a fact that Pandora 1.5.14 works just fine on Vegan 7.0.0

[Q] Youtube Issues

Okay, I am either losing my mind, or there is something seriously wrong with the Youtube Android app. I have a Nexus 10 running CM 10.1 (have also run PA and stock) as well as a Galaxy S3 running Beans (previously CM10). On both of these devices, Youtube can't seem to reliably play for more than 4 minutes at a time. Furthermore, any time I try to seek forward in a video, the player crashes. Finally, every time I click a Youtube link from another application, the video will not load; I have to go to a different video and go back to the one I was trying to watch. Is everyone having these problems? Is there anything I can do to help alleviate these issues? I was planning on using my Nexus 10 to watch online lectures on Youtube, but it will be of little use for that if it can't play more than 4 minutes of video and I am unable to seek to my previous location!
Try finding a way to uninstall the app and then reinstall it. Maybe using a apk file? It could be the YouTube app that comes with the ROMs on your devices are either very buggy or might be corrupted. My YouTube app currently works fine on stock ROM but I have not yet tried cm10 so I'm not quite sure. Hope this helps
Sent from my Nexus 7,
That's an issue with CM ROMs I believe. Had the issue on CM10. Try setting the quality to HQ in settings. That's the way it worked on mine.
Or alternately you can try tubemate app

Running current Crackle TV 4.0.3 on CM11 Nightlies...

Not sure how many people use Crackle TV on their Nook's or if this fix has been discovered yet.
I thoroughly enjoy watching the older TV series as well as some of the older movies they offer and it's one of my primary apps always installed on my Android devices.
I installed CM11 2/2/14 Nightly and the Crackle TV app would not allow me to download via Google Play due to incompatibility. I tried the older version 2.3.8 which always seems to work, but could not get it to work. Would continually force close when attempting to open.
I backed up the current 4.0.3 apk from my non-rooted Motorola Razr M using ES File Explorer (again non-rooted), zipped the file and saved it off. Copied the file over to the Nook Color, unzipped it and installed it. Installation went fine, and the app ran successfully, but when I tried watching video, it would shake and stutter and was unstable to watch.
After tweaking different settings in Developer options, I tried Disable HW overlays (Always use GPU for screen compositing) and Crackle now works perfectly. :victory:
Thanks a lot for this tip. For the last couple years my Nook has been mainly used for watching TV shows and movies on Netflix, Hulu+, and now Crackle. Yesterday I finally upgraded to CM 11 from CM10 and its awesome. My Nook hasnt run this well since the Gingerbread days.
I took then crackle apk from my Nexus 7 and worked perfectly.
