Subject: Storing Programms to Flash
From: ako
Date: 18 Jan, 2003 15:27:02
Hi everybody, hi XDA-Developers,
just found today this really cool site and must say: great
rewards for you!
Am really happy to find a way, to backup my MDA.
Had a Palm before my MDA and that was so cool, to control most
of the things you can do with a PalmOS, with the Flash and so
on.
But now to my question: has anyone found a way to store
programms in the 32MB Flash of the MDA/XDA???
Would be greatful NOT to loose the installed programms, when
changing my SD-Card (i have stored most of the programms on the
card, to leave as much RAM as possible for working).
Would be cool, if anyone can help with this and post his/ her
experiences.
Have a nice day,
ako
hi everybody another time ...
just asked some weeks ago, but no answers.
think it's interesting for all of us. perhaps now there is someone who solved the puzzle???
cheers ako
24MB of that space is used for the OS, so you can't use that. The remaining 8MB could be used with the right software. HP includes that with the Jornada, called "Safe Store." I found it very nice to have when I had a Jornada. Unfortunately, the PPC ROM files seem to be protected so they can't be copied. Anybody know a way around that? If so, I can copy this from a friend's Jornada.

Hi all.
I've just joined this Forum, because I think my Qtek 1010 is a great device, which I want to use as wide as possible though I am a non-tech. I saw this Forum and I am very impressed and amazed of all what's going on here. I can clearly see that there is a lot to learn about my device and I also realize that people posting here knows A LOT about PDA's. But I hope reading all the great topics will help me better understand what happens inside my PDA and maybe even make me able to do things myself.
I would like to upgrade my Qtek from PPC2002PE to PPC2003PE. Having read the warnings about upgrades I am a little confused and also afraid to screw up. My device has ROM version 3.14.06.ENG, Radio version T313 and Protocol version 32S54. So far it has never been updated before. I bought it in Denmark, where no updates are available.
I would really appreciate if someone has detailed step by step (as I saw another user call "dumbass") suggestions on what to do (right versions of ROM and Radio versions etc....).
Sincerely,
Luffe
Ok here you go!
Updating your Qtek ROM using the 'SD Card' or 'Bootloader' Method
http://xda-developers.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1717
Just ignore the radio updates unless your carrier issues one for your device. For a ROM upgrade, find the link to Jeff's Kitchen and create yourself a PPC 2003 custom ROM in .exe form, download it, and run it with the device in the cradle. Simple as that.
You will, of course, lose all data on the device. DO NOT restore a full backup. You can selectively restore non-system files and data.
First I appologize for the delay in the availability of this ROM. I was out of town on some business, and the site was down again for a certain time.
To get down to the details, this ROM is the complete set of all three .nbf files, I chose the 2.06 NK.nbf because the cleartype fonts are way better than the 2.02. The radio stack included is version 1.18, and the extended ROM (ms_.nbf) is a customized 2.06.100a, which is a mixture of the extended ROM that dcs posted, the one that came with the 2.06 ROM from the mystery guy and the official Asian 1.60.44 ROM.
I had to remove a couple of the Asian telco provider settings because there was no more space left in the extended ROM since the new versions of the software had larger file sizes than before, and the AutoConfig for Asian telcos alone takes up a lot of space too.
I still included the Extended ROM Viewer and almost all of the newer versions of the software included in the extended ROMs posted by dcs and the mystery guy.
The following telco providers were removed (due to their file sizes being the largest):
1. 1010
2. One2Free
The Socket SDIO Wi-Fi that were available in the previous ROM I posted were also removed due to the lack of space, the SPB GPRS Monitor that was provided as part of one of the extended ROMs posted was also removed. The thumbpad driver is in the extended ROM but does not auto-install, since some times it causes problems, you may install it separately by just clicking on the cab file.
The files removed are included in the .ZIP file so that they may be installed separately if desired.
I would like to thank dcs, mamaich, the mystery man and all other developers who contributed to this endeavor.

I am not too clear about the problem, you flashed your device with the ROM I posted?
This did not happen to me during the multiple times I flashed my device and my dad's device.
I am a bit puzzled here, can anyone help in this matter? ANy similar experiences?
It's so difficult to download! :? I must have tried at least 6 to 7 times. Each time it just stop there.
hi people, i m new to this forum and new to xda2. Just wondering, how do u guys download and load up all the upgrades? hope u pros can give me some pointers.... thanks in advance
Finally managed to download the file. Do I need to do anything before installing the new ROM?
I had once tried to upgrade my unit (blame it on initial enthusiasm, I'd seen all these talks about upgrading to newer ROM versions everywhere on the net that I downloaded an upgrade 2 weeks before I actually bought my device) with a ROM version I had downloaded from O2's UK (The unit was bought from singapore/Honkgkong...Asia ROM presumably)site which naturally and the consequenses were very depressing , I was left with a dead machine on my hands and nobody I knew could be of any help. Anyway that had been taken care of a couple of days back when it reflashed at an authorised service centre.
Well that being that , now that its working fine and now that I see all this talk about windows mobile 2003 SE here I have this irresistable urge to try upgrading mu unit to run SE.
A couple of things before I try to get adventurous
1)How do I do a backup of of EVERYTHING ON MY MACHINE ( Original BASIC/Just out of the box/First time run software included ) So that I don't have to take a week off work just to get the unit reflashed.
2) How do I do a restore all of the backed up data on my device if the 2003SE upgrade doesnt work? From what I have learnt , it isnt anything like a regular computer where just about anyone can format boot and reload windows if it crashes.
I figure a dead PPC is like a regular computer with a dead bios.
I can understand that this post is about 5 times the length of a usual post here but I just had to get all my backup plans in place before I jump off a cliff.
you can use either the x-backup in the xda itself and making a complete back up to your sd or mmc card or make a backup via active sync on the tools menu
where is the download link??

I have an xda II australian model, i want windows media player 10, can i use the chinese rom??
This is gonna be my first time to update the ROM of my device so some questions:
Did you include upgrade instructions on the zip?
How do I disable some of the .cab files on the extended rom? I dont like some of them.
Had any probs with this rom on Globe?
~ishtangli
What's the BT software on the new rom? Widcomm or MS?
Hi Folks,
I'm using iMate pocket PC which i bought from India. Its awesome while sync with my exchange server and get me entire mailbox of mine to the device.
I also want to check whether i can enjoy the WM2003SE on this device. I have been reading quite a few posts on WM2003SE for XDA here (i'm not sure whether this is the right forum to talk bout the iMate; however, i tried coz i seen a category for HTC).
I know for sure that the vendor has not yet published WM2003SE for iMate PPC. however, Could anybody please let me know if i can upgrade my iMate to WM2003SE (i'm crezy about it and a couple of days back i just decided to use one of the upgrade from this site and somehow cud hold myself as i cud not predict what its going to do with my device ). If its possibel, from where shall I get the upgrade?
thanks in advance.

Hi Columbus,
thanks for the response,
Wud this upgrade work with the iMate Pocket PC from India?
thats what is the concern for me. I have seen threads where we need to modify the .nbf files for the operator / country codes. Do i need to modify the .nbf file for this upgrade?
thanks.

From Today screen, goto START/Settings/System/Device Information.
What's your ROM version/date, Radio version etc?
You can search and check out DCS posting on how to check the operator code on the .nbf files and your devices.
Alternatively, if you are not too worry about changing the operator code (since the upgrade to WM2003SE voids warranty anyway), you can run the upgrade only with HimaUpgradeUt.exe (remove the HimaGetDeviceData.exe and HimaClearJumpCode.exe).
There exists many tutorials/tips from people who have tried the upgrade, so have a good read and copy the important tips.
Some general tips from me:
(a) Backup all your important data (calendar schedule, docs, contacts etc)
(b) Be mentally prepared to spend quite awhile doing the upgrade. Smooth upgrade -> 1-2 hours, Error-prone upgrade -> 1-2 days.
Do not rush, or you will find that 99% of the time, the error happens because you are careless. Always clarify, clarify, clarify.
(c) If encounter errors, copy the sequence of events, EXACT error messages, search for similar errors reported here. If unable to find, post your errors to request for urgent help!
(d) Also, if you have the luxury of a spare phone, keep that handy in case your mobile phone connectivity is indispensable to you.
(e) If all else fails, be prepared for a downgrade back to the original ROM. Remember to download the original WM2003 ROM package as well.
good luck!

Hello,
Been away from this board for a long time, thought I would share with you my final build for the XDA II O2 UK device.
Its been tested heavily over a year now and runs flawlessly from installation to operation. I have tested out various builds that have been posted on this forum but always found some issues, after compiling a list of the apps that worked I was able to put together the final build which includes the latest 1.19 radio file and various other updates such as Bluetooth and Camera files.
Bluetooth works fine for me, never had any issues with headsets however your mileage may vary.
The 1.19 radio is a boon, works better than I expected and I have noticed the voice quality is better now as well as not having the annoying connection issues with 1.18.
Installation is straight forward:
Reset your device to the boot loader screen (how to on this forum)
Insert the device in the cradle and run the following file:
HimaUpgradeUt.exe
Follow the on screen instructions, about 30 minutes later your XDA II should be upgraded to Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition with 1.19 Radio and some cool apps like a working Intellidialer.
When the device reboots, give the device up to a minute, it should initiate the auto install process and start to flash some installation messages across your screen, allow this process to complete (can take 5 minutes or more).
Once complete the device will reboot and you will have a working O2 Windows Mobile 2003 SE image
*I have tested this build extensively with the latest software and have not found any issues. The Intellidialer works like a dream, the whole OS runs so much faster and smoother, Screen Rotation works perfectly as does the camera.*
I have included the Extended Rom tools incase some of you want to unlock or Extended ROM as I did (useful when you want to drop in apps into the OS after an upgrade or at a later date.. you simply drop them into the extended folder and then do a hard reset to redo the OS intall (warning, you will lose your data doing this so back up first).
Here is a complete list of the files:

Hi guys,
I can't get the link to work (the page can not be found error), but will keep on trying. I upgraded to 2003SE from another source last week and I'm not pleased with the end result (no camera, some apps keep crashing).
Hope to bring good news soon.

Flashed my T-Mobile MDA II
Have tried a few other 2003se but allways went back to old 2003
This version is excellent up till now (2 day's)
From the extended rom i removed (used ER2003Edit):
Blackberry
MemMaid
Truefax
After flashing restored the Phone buttons with original ones (don't like the O2 phone skin)
Thanks for sharing
p.s. it is running way faster then the original 2003
Tuurtje
Yep,
Speed is something I noticed and application behaviour, everything runs super smooth.
I installed SPB Plus and Pocket Informant which added the finishing touches, I doubt I will be upgrading for a long time now as this image is the best I have managed to put together.
Thanks to all the contributers, Sin and a few others, I made this image over a year ago so have forgotten where I got the bits from
Enjoy,
Fz
Hi Guys,
I upgraded over the weekend and so far all is well. Thank you very much!!
I originally went down this road as I thought there was a bluetooth control program included (bluetooth manager i think its called), but have no regrets doing it anyway.
Any idea where I can get something like it from?
I use a Parrot hands free in my car and now have a Bluetooth GPS, but have real problems getting the com port freed up when not in my car.
Once again, fantastic job finalzero, and thank you for the download help Flickster.

Where can I find the Ext ROM files?
Hi,
Noticed lots of progress with the WM2005 for XDAII project and want to congratulate everyone involved for their hardwork.
I wanted some feedback on the upgrade process from those that have done it, how did they find the upgrade process, is the device working as intended (if not, how much of the device is funtional) etc.
I am currently running my own cooked WM2003SE Rom with v1.19 Radio and it works great, everything works with out a glitch and I have not had any issues for over a year - I would like to try a copy of WM2005 in the hope that I will get the same functionality as I currently have.
The only thing putting me off right now is lack of info as to how it works, what problems are there such as not being able to downgrade if I need to etc. Just basic concerns really.
I want to get my hands on a fully working rom image for my XDAII as I do allot of pocket PC development and would like to start working on apps geared towards Windows Mobile 5.0.
Cheers,
Fz
yo this is my first post, i have only had my xdaii for about two weeks and have upgraded to wm2005, i think in some respects it is better than 2003, but it has some issues like camera button and record button not working, but there is software to resolve these issues. one other bad point is that that you cant seem to copy your contacts, there is a program calleed asukal sim manager but this doesnt work either. the way to fix it is to go into to the windows folder and find a FILE called simuploader and this does it all for you, some of the plus points is it is much easier to extend your rom, and when you install programs it gives you the option as to where you would like to save it storage program etc. to answer another question yes you can flash back to 2003 as i have gone back to 2003 se and have since changed the rom several times. I hope some of this info is ok for you......
