I saw a T-Moblie Pocket PC Phone Edition (It has a gold case) on sale, the seller said the manual described it is a GSM 900/1800, but as I known it should be a US GSM 900/1900. Is it a GSM 900/1800 version gold case "T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone Edition" avalible?
Thanks and sorry for my bad english

Please tell me there is a way to get the T-Mobile version of the XDA (from Canada) to work on the Orange network in the UK! :?:
I have just bought one for my Dad (I already have an O2 XDA on Orange) and I've gone into the bootloader and selected radio 900/1800 which i believe is what orange runs on, but when I put my Sim into the device it just says no service
It's currently got RS 6.24.00 on the device, do I need to change this to 4.21.00 ?
If so how ? As I can't see the option in the bootloader to load/backup rom's like on mine
Please help
Cheers

Anyone ?
try to do a search i'm pretty sure that the gsm settings cant just be changed in software, and if thats the case then a US (900/1900) can never be used in EU (900/1800)
xda2 dont have that issues because it's triband (900/1800/1900)
Have tried searching already... couldn't find anything of relevance
There is the option in the bootloader that includes 1800, can't remember what the other exact options were as I don't have the phone with me atm. But I'm pretty sure the one I selected was 900/1800, so I hope (and pray) that this phone supports 1800.
Do I also need to select the band through WM2003 aswell as doing it in the bootloader?
Can someone confirm what band the UK networks Orange and Vodafone use, just to make sure I'm trying it with the right ones...
Any help much appreciated, as I'm getting desperate on this one, as its a crimbo present for my dad..
Cheers
Neil
EU as in all cellphone companies use 900/1800
it's the EU std like PAL is
US use 900/1900 and i dont think anybody else use that
did a quick search in the forum and came across this

S**t S**t S**t thats not good
I've just been doing some searching on google and found that Cellnet and Vodafone use 900 & 1800, and Orange and One2One use 1800.
Does this mean I will be able to use Voda or Cellnet as they use 900.. and the phone is on 900 / 1900 ????
Cheers
Probably, just shove a voda or O2 card in and see what happens.
Thanks to everyone who helped, my Dad has now been given his PPC and it works on Voda
I've tried to get my beloved Wallaby working now on two USA networks, T-Mobile and Cingular to no avail. I bought this new as an O2 XDA 1 in England while I was living there and miss using it so bad.
I've installed the full xda developers kit. It looks good and very functional, but I've never been able to get the phone to turn on with my new SIM from Cingular or my old one from T-Mobile.
I've tried the bandwith switcher and no dice, not on any of the frequencies. I have the model number 10A1 which is listed at only 900/1800 but Cingular runs on 900/1900 I've been told. Wouldn't it just use 900?
I'm so lost and confused. A little help anyone?
Thanks
freud
According to a friend of mine who inserted Cingular SIM to his unlocked T-mobile pocket pc phone and it worked fine.
IT works...but could use some help.
I can confirm:
Yes, Unlocked Wallaby + Cingular SIM card = GSM and GPRS connectivity. Works fine, except recpetion is retivively crap in my area (compared to Motorola RAZR, the Wallaby frankly sucks for reception.
Any thought about a RSU upgrade that might help? Phone states it is on 6.18.00
You need the 10B1 board for the USA since 1900 is used in the US

I bought a new att 8525 about a month ago it came with an ATT 3G sim card
I have a Thailand phone and SIM card(the network is AIS)with international roaming. Before I bought the 8525 when i would be in the U.S., I would just use my thai cellphone, an old tri- band nokia and when in the states It would automatically conect to Tmobiles' gsm network(1900 frequency I think)
On the 8525, The phone was locked of course so that the thai sim would not work. I ran Pof's program Auto unlock v3a. I put the AIS sim back in the phone and it worked and automatically conected on Tmobile's gsm network . I was exstatic!!!
Then... I caught a plane back to thailand. While between planes in Taipei I turned on my phone with the Thai sim and it connected !!! I was still exstatic!!!
THEN...I landed in Bangkok thailand. Turned my phone on and it will not recognize any netwoks other than some weird 1900 gsm network that I have never heard of. It does not recognize either AIS or DTAC or Orange which are the big three in Thailand.
I took my Thai sim out of the 8525 and put it back in my old nokia phone and it immediately conected to the AIS gsm network.
So it appears my new 8525 phone is not recognizing 900 and 1800 gsm networks. Pof's program definately ulocked the sim because it doesnt ask for an unlock code. I read the NO gsm issue but I am not sure that is this issue because the phone does appear to recognize 1900 gsm both here and remember it did conect to Tmobile 's 1900 gsm network in the states.
So the issue is recognition of 900 and 1800 gsm.
What can I do? Can someone please help?
Thank you in advance
Here are my device info after runing pof program, I am not sure what the info was before I ran the program:
ROM version: 2.15.502.3
ROM date: 04/09/07
Radio version: 1.16.00.00
Protocol version: 32.53.7018.01H

Have you checked to see what is enabled under the bands tab in the Settings > Phone panel?
Possibly, something is disabled there. It is possible that you have a resricted setting. If you do not have the "Band" tab visible, the registry hack is in the wiki or certainly somewhere. Try the google search link in my signature.
registry tweaked to add band tab but still havea problem
Thanks for the advice.Sure enough the band tab was not visible so I tweaked the registry to ad the band tab.
However when I try to change the gsm band from"auto" to 900/1800 I get a messsage that says :
"Warning unable to change gsm/umts band, please try again later."
regardless ofhow band setting are changed, auto./gsm, my phone still only detects the 1900 gsm band. arrrgh!
I have since my last post also updated my radio to 1.50,still nothing.
any elpis gretaly appreciated.

"Warning unable to change gsm/umts band, please try again later."
This ussually means there's a live connection somewhere. Make sure your disconnected from gprs, internet, etc., then your manual band changes will take.
thank to everyone that makes this forum possible
Problem solved after i shut down the phone, inserted my att sim, then phone all of a sudden starting recognizing all the 900/1800 networks here(asia/thailand). I then shut off the phone, inserted my thai ais sim and it also started picking up the networks. Not sure why I was geting the warning message .If it is due to having a live conection somewhere, my gprs was not configured on the new phone yet for thai/ais simand would not connect.
Anyway thanks you all for this forum. Now I will read , read read some more on the best 6.0 ROM for my phone.

Hey Ladies and Gents, I've got a bit of an issue here.
I've got my faithful Niki100, which was purchased in Australia, completely unlocked (spl 1.22 Hard, completely CID unlocked as per the stickied threads), but it won't read the new KTF sim I have here in Korea. It detects what the number attached to the SIM is, but won't read anything else on it.
The sim does appear slightly different (see attached photo).
The Australian sim would be a GSM/WCMDA USIM, the Korean sim is (probably) a CDMA2000/WCDMA USIM.
Regardless though, I *expected* the phone to pick it up and read the WCDMA (UMTS) part of the sim and connect - It's quite happy using the Australian sim and roaming on the 2100mhz network here, I was expecting it to do the same with the Korean SIM.
Any ideas?
I'm using a custom cooked 6.1 rom I made with the old Nike Kitchen about 8 months ago, and the 1.65.22.29 radio.
Cheers
EDIT:
Solved: It was a combination of needing new Sim Manager version, and the retarded IMEI lock South Korea puts on all foreign phones.
I'm surprised that it roamed on the 2100 Mhz network, I thought it didn't support that, the only option I can think about is try to flash a wm 6.5 rom.
I hope this solve your issue but unfortenally I'm not an expert in these things.
Goodluck
i bought it from e bay, after using that, never received the 3G signal. therefore my friend said it maybe introduced from USA. any way i can recognize my phone from USA or with UK? thanks
UK version has a chin and is boxy. US version no chin and rounded.
Also, if you are in the UK, and your Hero works as a phone *at all*, it is UK Hero! US Hero's are CDMA and there are no CDMA networks in the UK.
BTW - on another thread you said you were always getting HSDPA! You are aware that HSDPA is 3G? Note that on your phone H > 3G > G. If you are getting HSDPA all the time, rejoice!

Dave
