I've been waiting eagerly for the XDA to be released in SOuth Africa but it is not available yet. I plan to buy on in the UK.
Will it work? DO I need to do any unblocking?
:?:
It is being / has been approved for use in SA. The networks there will be selling it shortly. Just marketing crap to sort out.
XDA South Africa
I bought a O2 SXA in the UK. back SA it gives me message:
Please input unlock code: SID:
Is this the network locking code that I need to fix with the serial cable?
Thanks
XDA should work like any normal phone in South Africa. Only thing to remember is that if it is network bocked...it won't work(like normal phones).
Whether GPRS will work is another matter that is open to debase.
South African XDA user in the UK
Have used Serial Cable and XDA Manipulator program to very easily unblock phone. Works perfectly!!!
I am dissappointed with the GPRS connection speed though. Very slow

The same device in South Africa go under the name: QTEK 1010, is being supplied by a guy named: Shocket , Cell: 0824537524; Company Polycom Africa
Access to SX56
Anyone able to get the AT&T SX 56 to work iin RSA?
Greeting from SA. Never knew anyone else from SA visits this site.
I have used the SX 56 in RSA with success. I had many problems initially, but found that most of them were because of the T-Mobile ROM. Seems to be rather problematic in SA. After I flashed the ROM using the bootloader method, with 4.00.01, it worked perfectly.
Both vodacom and MTN are selling the Qtek 1010. I got one a few months ago from Vodacom. Upgraded to WM 2003, 4.00.11, and it works like a charm on all three networks.
Be carefull though. DONT UPGRADE THE GSM ROM. If you want wm2003, make sure you upgrade only the PDA OS.
By the way, XDA from O2 works perfectly in SA too.
Vodacom have launched the Qtek 1010 a few weeks ago...
Downgrading from Radio Stack 4.21.00
Thanks guys for the advice
But alas no joy with reseting to GSM and a Cold reset it STILL says NO service when I look at the connectivity bar and not able to find a network when searching for it either
I guess it's cause I upgraded to the wrong Radio Stack (4.21.00) version last week. Which was a bit silly on my part. I guess that there is no turning back to another Radio Stack?
Pity I was really forward to using the GPRS - in RSA
I heard that one can upgrade the radio stack in SA. Is there anyone that has done this? and can tell me where to find this?
Hi guys,
I've been using an O2 XDA 32mb in South Africa for a while successfully, albeit on old software versions. I've got Radio Stack 4.01 (old!!), and the GPRS is really slow.. has any one tried upgrading the radio stack..?

Hi all,
as a new XDA user have been reading through the forum with interest, found out a lot about my unit that I did not know and am sure there is a lot more to find,
My XDA is a Model PW10B1
Rom : 4.00.01ENG
Radio 4.20.00
Protocol 32S54
At the moment I am using a T-Mobile (UK) Sim in it and am happy with the service,
In answer to some of the comments on the board about using the phone in the US, I can confirm it does work fine, I got the best service on the US T-Mobile network around Denver where the GPRS worked fine, (Using the T-Mobile offer of GPRS at same as UK rates, managed to do anot of good data transfer), on the West Coast (LA) the phone works fine but no GPRS available, due to the network roaming agreement there.
hope that helps for anyone thinking about taking XDA to a US area
Ammendment to the Above,
I should say that my XDA is a Model PW10A1, but since installing 2003 the software page reports it a PW10B1
And the Test in the US was done before the 2003 was written over the standard ROM

This user says his won't work at all in the US.
Hi
Well all I can tell you is that my phone which is a 64mb UK o2 device worked fine, both on T-Mobile while in Denver and also in Los Angles, but only got GPRS service in Denver!.
Maybe the other poster had an older model, or some other reason i don't know all I can say is that my unit looged onto the US network as soon as the band was switched in the bootloaded.
I am back there next month, I will take a picture of the screen if you want showing it logged onto the netowrk if you want to see proof!!
can anyone help with advice like do i need a diferent radio stack for france or will it be ok also how 2 conect 2 internet on pay as u go in france many thanks :?
eu use 900/1800
and if you were to go to usa where they use a different gsm frequency
then changing the radiostack would not help anything
about the pay as you go i dont know it very much depend on the pay as you go service
different from company to company
I've taken my XDA 2 on a day trip to France., and connected to the Internet via GPRS just as if I was in the UK. Just to try it out, and I've no idea about the cost.
Can anyone help?
Have xda atom but cannot use it on t-mobile uk! Keeps connecting then disconnecting and have no gprs signal. Have had a new sim card sent but still having the same problem  The sim is a 3g sim but t-mobile says that does'nt make a difference should be able to use in a non 3g phone? Is that True??
Put my orange or vodafone sim's in and connect to their networks no probs.
Anyone any suggestions please?
Try it on other non 3G phone? or try it at different geographic location
Thanks for your suggestion hanmin. Have tried different location but still the same. tried in another non 3 g phone and had the same. Have signed up on an o2 payg chip and no probs and have also now tried an orange 3g chip and that worked too. Now in dispute with t mobile as the chip is now playing up in my mda pro too and has been for a while (not a faulty pro after all maybe!)
Wished never switched to t mobile as always been an orange user!! why oh why!!
Have the same problem as you but on Virgin MObile UK. Am thinking of changing providers. Just moved from australia and brought my o2 atom with me.
Just to confirm, you've tested with vodaphone and o2 SIM and both worked fine?
Hi tristrem21 sorry have'nt looked on xda developers for a while! so did'nt notice your question regarding service providers. Yes have tried it on o2 and Vodafone and the sims work fine. It will also work well on Orange too.
same problem, bump for solutions
anyone though of anything yet?
thanks for the tip lob. have switched to o2. works fine now. cheers
I know that you guys are very busy with Aku 3.x and Crosbow, but since my first Pocket PC Phone (XDA) never happened something like this with the GSM,so here I am:
-Last friday I was using my Tytn as always, after I sync my tytn with the exchange server, the signal of the GSM fell, at that moment I thought that the network of my carrier (Tim) was with weak signal. Later after many attempts it seems that mine SIM card cannot registered with GSM network.
-I placed the same sim card in another device and it works, after that I have tested another SIm card in my Tytn and worked (unfortunly it wasn't mine : now It seems that none Sim card is working, I've tryied several times search networks in manual mode , and everytime I found the networks "72410" (when should found "Tim" or "t-mobile", but cannot register!
Anyone suffered something similar?
tks in advance!
Phelipe
*I already upgraded the ROM1.35 and Radio 1.27
*The Radio is working perfect
Probably your phone has a net provider lock. Herm_Unlock_v2a.exe should fix this if you are running the unlocker's patched radio.
2 nights without sleep...
Pof ,
Tks for your reply.
Last night I used the www.imei-check.co.uk tool for my HTC Tytn. is this tool that you are talking about?
I´m using my hermes since November when I brought it from Amsterdam (Unlocked).
I had downgraded the Bl to 1.04 (I was 1.09)
Can you imagine why my carrier (TIM BRASIL) blocked my device or IMEI, suddenly ?

Probably, call them and ask
BINGO!
After use your suggestion it works again! Now I am afraid to upgrade my old 32k sim card for a new one,one amazing thing was the answer of TIM (my carrier) "They attribute difficulty to register because their networks are instable due the fact that Vivo (other CDMA2000 carrier) is testing GSM/HSPDA networks here in São Paulo (main city of Brazil).
Pof thanks again for your help. I´m a old user (but not so much active) of this forum, I will donate $5, and I will push harder my friend that works as Windows Mobile Director here in Brazil to give on copy of his WM6 compiled for Hermes...
Hello,
As title states, anyone got any experience of the best performing radio in New Zealand, or problems with specific versions?
I'm emigrating next month from the UK, and would prefer to reflash before I leave. I dont want to risk flashing without a pc around (in case of a problem), which arrives 3 months after.
Do Vodadfone NZ set their networks up similar to Vodafone UK?
I'm currently using Radio 1.40.30.00 on Black Majik (which is the mutts nuts).
Thanks,
Jon
Hi, I am using 1.41 and it seems to be running well in my Area (Auckland). I tried other radios like 1.43, 1.46 and 1.47 on vodafone NZ but for all of them, i couldn't get any incoming calls. I am keen to hear more from others who are connected to Vodafone NZ!! Cheers.
