02 xda 2 going to france - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

can anyone help with advice like do i need a diferent radio stack for france or will it be ok also how 2 conect 2 internet on pay as u go in france many thanks :?

eu use 900/1800
and if you were to go to usa where they use a different gsm frequency
then changing the radiostack would not help anything
about the pay as you go i dont know it very much depend on the pay as you go service
different from company to company

I've taken my XDA 2 on a day trip to France., and connected to the Internet via GPRS just as if I was in the UK. Just to try it out, and I've no idea about the cost.

O2 XDA in HK and GPRS problem

I was recently in HK with my O2 XDA and couldn't get the GPRS to work, after spending an hour talking to the O2 support desk, I gave up.
Could someone who has their XDA working tell me what their 'connections' set up is?
I was told I had to dial into the O2 WAP GSM (CSD) line, but it never answers.
thanks

hmmm! well when u turn on your phone it should show the G logo near the signal bar for a while or rather click on the signal bar .there u will see the G for GPRS. If its now showing.....well i think theres no gprs.
Are u using the IE for your GPRS?
Which GSM Services Provider you are using? Go to check does your account including the GPRS service, if not, apply it. Then ask your GSM Services Provider to go thr. your GPRS setting with your xda.
I have use Smartone services for a long time in Hong Kong, so far so good.

XDA In South Africa

I've been waiting eagerly for the XDA to be released in SOuth Africa but it is not available yet. I plan to buy on in the UK.
Will it work? DO I need to do any unblocking?
:?:
It is being / has been approved for use in SA. The networks there will be selling it shortly. Just marketing crap to sort out.
XDA South Africa
I bought a O2 SXA in the UK. back SA it gives me message:
Please input unlock code: SID:
Is this the network locking code that I need to fix with the serial cable?
Thanks
XDA should work like any normal phone in South Africa. Only thing to remember is that if it is network bocked...it won't work(like normal phones).
Whether GPRS will work is another matter that is open to debase.
South African XDA user in the UK
Have used Serial Cable and XDA Manipulator program to very easily unblock phone. Works perfectly!!!
I am dissappointed with the GPRS connection speed though. Very slow

The same device in South Africa go under the name: QTEK 1010, is being supplied by a guy named: Shocket , Cell: 0824537524; Company Polycom Africa
Access to SX56
Anyone able to get the AT&T SX 56 to work iin RSA?
Greeting from SA. Never knew anyone else from SA visits this site.
I have used the SX 56 in RSA with success. I had many problems initially, but found that most of them were because of the T-Mobile ROM. Seems to be rather problematic in SA. After I flashed the ROM using the bootloader method, with 4.00.01, it worked perfectly.
Both vodacom and MTN are selling the Qtek 1010. I got one a few months ago from Vodacom. Upgraded to WM 2003, 4.00.11, and it works like a charm on all three networks.
Be carefull though. DONT UPGRADE THE GSM ROM. If you want wm2003, make sure you upgrade only the PDA OS.
By the way, XDA from O2 works perfectly in SA too.
Vodacom have launched the Qtek 1010 a few weeks ago...
Downgrading from Radio Stack 4.21.00
Thanks guys for the advice
But alas no joy with reseting to GSM and a Cold reset it STILL says NO service when I look at the connectivity bar and not able to find a network when searching for it either
I guess it's cause I upgraded to the wrong Radio Stack (4.21.00) version last week. Which was a bit silly on my part. I guess that there is no turning back to another Radio Stack?
Pity I was really forward to using the GPRS - in RSA
I heard that one can upgrade the radio stack in SA. Is there anyone that has done this? and can tell me where to find this?
Hi guys,
I've been using an O2 XDA 32mb in South Africa for a while successfully, albeit on old software versions. I've got Radio Stack 4.01 (old!!), and the GPRS is really slow.. has any one tried upgrading the radio stack..?

New User saying hello and an answer on 1900mhz

Hi all,
as a new XDA user have been reading through the forum with interest, found out a lot about my unit that I did not know and am sure there is a lot more to find,
My XDA is a Model PW10B1
Rom : 4.00.01ENG
Radio 4.20.00
Protocol 32S54
At the moment I am using a T-Mobile (UK) Sim in it and am happy with the service,
In answer to some of the comments on the board about using the phone in the US, I can confirm it does work fine, I got the best service on the US T-Mobile network around Denver where the GPRS worked fine, (Using the T-Mobile offer of GPRS at same as UK rates, managed to do anot of good data transfer), on the West Coast (LA) the phone works fine but no GPRS available, due to the network roaming agreement there.
hope that helps for anyone thinking about taking XDA to a US area
Ammendment to the Above,
I should say that my XDA is a Model PW10A1, but since installing 2003 the software page reports it a PW10B1
And the Test in the US was done before the 2003 was written over the standard ROM

This user says his won't work at all in the US.
Hi
Well all I can tell you is that my phone which is a 64mb UK o2 device worked fine, both on T-Mobile while in Denver and also in Los Angles, but only got GPRS service in Denver!.
Maybe the other poster had an older model, or some other reason i don't know all I can say is that my unit looged onto the US network as soon as the band was switched in the bootloaded.
I am back there next month, I will take a picture of the screen if you want showing it logged onto the netowrk if you want to see proof!!

Using xda2 abroad

Hi there... this is my first post so forgive me if i don't get the protocol correct!
Will my 02 locked phone work when roaming in europe because i have family in Germany and France and i will need to use my phone abroad?.
If it will roam OK i have no reason to unlock it.
Cheers
Yes, it will roam fine, but be aware that O2 charge a small fortune for GRPS usage abroad.
You should be able to get an add-on package for european roaming that will reduce your costs a bit, but it still works out very expensive. I have this addition yet I was recently charged £1.70 for a 4k download from France. Spain is even more expesive for some reason.

[Q] Moving to UAE

I'm most likely moving to Dubai in a few weeks time and, of course, I want to take my SGS2 with me! (Company offer iPhone4 as a business phone.. No thanks! )
I have an unbranded UK handset currently flashed with:
PDA: WKE2
Phone: XXKDJ
CSC: XEUKD1
Am I good to go as soon as I pop a SIM card in or is there anything specifically I need to flash?
I'm thinking my current CSC might give me problems...
Does anyone know if this is the case?
Hi there thanks for PM,
You are welcome to Dubai, It will be bit hot for you though
I have myself bought mine from UK online and have no problem with CSC, i am currently on KE7, before on KE2, KE1, KDD (all UK firmwares/CSC).. no problems with anyone.. I am able to use Mobile provider internet without any special settings (you can manually add if not working).. 2 mobile service providers in UAE
1. www.du.ae
2. www.etisalat.ae
UK mobile works here no problem.. same frequencies. BBC iplayer/ Music hub will not work here as its for UK/ EU..
SGS2 is not officially released yet in UAE and therefore no firmware is released either.
Hope this helps

Thank you for your reply! That's a great help..
Do you recommend Du or Etisalat? Which one is better for high speed mobile internet?
Dear,
it all depends on you as both are similar in few aspects, both are owned by Govt. Etisalat has more coverage since its old company.. Du covers all Urban areas and rural areas are routed through Etisalat towers. recently, after coverage agreement, I can say both are almost same in coverage.
if you work is in remote areas (no road/ cities.. mean desert) Etisalat is better but otherwise du is alright.
Du is good as it charge you per second call. Du is new so tries to give better offers..both are having trial of 4G..Du system is new and speed seems better. both have rubblish Customer service.. I changed from Etisalat to Du as it suits me for Price, got TV/Landline/Broad band from them.. one website to pay all..
off topic: Du covers all freezone, new Dubai for broadband connections/ TV/LL services and rest in Etisalat... once you are here you will know more..
