can't get media player to work - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I have just installed Tom Tom navigation software on my XDA, this works fine but now everytime I try to start Media Player, I get the media player flashing on the start bar and then disappearing. I have tried to stop all programs in memory, but this has not helped.
Any ideas??
xda is 32Mb version, UK

I've seen this happen in the past, in relation to remapping the hardware buttons. Did the TomTom software do this? I can't recall all the details of the solution, but I believe that setting them back to default fixes it. I know this was discussed and documented on PDAbuzz and Pocket PC Passion, so search those boards too.

The newest Tomtom 2.22 update will fix this issue:

"A problem was fixed that could interfere with the Media Player on XDA devices (or other devices with less than four programmable hardware buttons)"

media center extender for athena?

please don't flame me for not searching the forums if such a topic has already been discussed - my search function simply isn't working. I have however browsed the forums with no luck. I was simply wondering if it is possible to use my athena as a media extender- not just control it but view videos, music and pictures the same way i would through an xbox or a pc.

orb is ok but id prefer something to directly sync with my Media Center setup at home.
Also my Athena crashes whenever Media Player loads up. I've got PK's Black Touch 2.0. Applied the WM fix but it didn't work.
Wondered if anyone has tried this..... haven't had chance yet

Try using Webguid on your media center pc. It integrates into the mediacenter application and is a ton more stable than Orb (especially on Vista). It's free for XP and Vista media center users and is very easily navigated on a laptop or handheld (more than Orb was anyway, and yes I've used both). Webguide is the closest I've come to turning my handheld into a media center extender as I can get.
I don't have the url, but a quick google for webguide+mediacenter should get you going in the right direction. Also, try using TCPMP to view the streaming on your handheld instead of WMP.
Good luck.

If it helps, I tried the various WMP fixes without success until I saw the one about previewing the skins. This is what worked for me:
1) In options uncheck open in library screen.
2) In landscape mode go to options and select skin tab. Wait until the skin appears - takes a few seconds
3) In Portrait mode do the same as for 2)
That worked for me. I don't think I did the "play a track from playlist" trick, but I did have a playlist set up. Reason I can't be sure is that this is the third time I've had to rebuild my Athena with PK2.0 because previous 2 versions got stuck during hard reset after I had set various things up.
Hope this helps someone

Problem with jabra bt3030 and remote control

Sorry if a similar thread already exist, i used the search and i didn't find anything.
The problem is that I can't control another media player instead of windows media player with the buttons of my bluetooth device.
I have tried to install various programs like TCPMP and mortplayer, and tried to do again the pairing procedure, but when i click on the play button of my bt device, it open the damn windows media player.
Please help
I don't know what to do.
S2P
Have you ever tried S2P (Slide to Play) ?
It works great with my Sony DR-BT21G.
S2U automatically launch windows media player in background to use avcrp control.
s2p is a good software but it seems to have small bugs with spb mobile shell, for example don't start when i tap on the icon.
Anyway i think that the cause of these little bugs is mobile shell because with manila the hd was perfect (almost).
S2P & spb ms3
I'm using spb Mobile shell 3 with S2P. I don't have this kind of bugs.
Sometimes it doesn't start when I press the play button of my bluetooth headset and I have to launch it whith the shortcut. Once launched, there is no more bugs.
Have you got the last version of theses softwares ?

In my opinion, S2P is very buggy. I have tried it with different ROMs (including stock ROM) and with no other software installed - and it never seems to work right. Eventually it freezes or it looks like it is playing but it really is not, or it plays but the volume shows as being muted, when it is really not muted. And the cover-flow view is either very choppy or it goes really fast - hard to control. So, I wouldn't bother with S2P. It's unfortunate because it looks nice.
I also have the jabra bt3030 and I am only able to use it with Manila or with Windows Media Player. I don't know that there is a way to use it with other programs, but I hope I'm wrong.
So, I'm with sar3vok. If anyone knows how to do this, please let us know.
I have done some tests and have found that the mobile shell and the wktask create small noious bugs, so i think that it was the principal cause of the bugs that i have found with this mobile shell.
Anyway i'm going out topic.
If someone found a way to use a bt remote control with the HD (and without WMP) please let me know.
I hate this windows program obligation
I'm using Pocket Player
This player works fine with the bt3030.
Great!!!

I LOVE YOU MAN!!!!
And i love the conduits.
This is the 2nd program that surprise me for efficiency after pocket artist.
The conduits programmers really deserve the payment for their programs!
Pocket player and the wmp plugin resolve half of my problem with the mobile shell!!
Really thanks maikelr!!!

[Q] DRM'd WMA File Compatibility (Overdrive Audio Books)

I'm not sure how many of you use or have heard of Overdrive, but it's a pretty cool setup that allows you to checkout audio books through your library. Well, to be more accurate, through your libraries overdrive account/website if they have one. Some of what they offer is available as MP3 files, but the great majority of audio books are only available as DRM'd WMA files.
I've found that I can transfer DRM Protected WMA Audiobooks without any issues when my GS2 is running Android 2.3.3 KI4, but as soon as I upgrade to a newer Stock version or newer version of some of the popular Roms on here, I run into License issues. Does anyone know anything about how the WMA DRM support works on here, or about any particular compatibility issue introduced in newer version of android or GS2 Roms?
Oddly it looks like the older MTP app is handling license negotiation as the files are transferred over. When I upgrade, the MTP app definitely acts differently closing and reopening during the transfer.
Sorry for the semi vague description, but I'd appreciate any info that anyone may have on this.
Just in case anyone else is looking for a solution for this problem, I've found one... Upgrade to ICS. Samsung appears to have resolved the issue on their own. I've verified that this MTP functionality works in both I9100XXLPQ and I9100DXLP9.

Connect to car stereo. Huawei Mediapad M5 8.4"

Hi,
I have been using my Nexus 7 (2012) in my car as a satnav and for listening to music by plugging it into the radio usb input. It played music fine using Google play but it's a bit slow now for the satnav bit so I bought an M5 tablet.
Satnav app works ok but getting the music to play is not so good.
With the Nexus I would connect it to the radio with a usb cable, switch on the radio, select usb, open Google play, select the album, select play and off it went....easy. Not the same with the M5, after opening google play I'm asked to select connection mode, charging, MIDI, transfer files, transfer photos. If I select any option other than charging it reverts after a couple of seconds to charging and occasionally plays the music after about 20 seconds (missing this part of the album). If I pause or stop then it'll occasionally stop or just continue.
If the Nexus can do all this well then surely the M5 can, am I doing something wrong.
Any suggestions much appreciated.
Cheers
Ron
Is your screen on when music cuts out?
Not sure about USB - but via bluetooth, EMUI devices have issues with background music playback. Your screen needs to be on and your music player needs to be in the foreground. Otherwise, EMUI situationally (I think it depends on the msuic player app and available RAM and other things) kills bluetooth/media processes in the name of battery optimization. Music playback behavior becomes as you describe. It's usually fixed temporarily by toggling bluetooth on and off a couple times, or it's fixed permanently by freezing the Power Genius app (with root).
That's not necessarily your problem - but just saying...
Thanks,
I've been through all the settings (I think) but no change, it's pretty rubbish really that a 6 year old tablet outperforms the M5 on a feature that you would imagine should get better integrated into a more modern device. The M5 may have some good features but there are some aspects that are difficult to live with and ultimately i'll probably return it.
Cheers
Ron
I think it's the Android version that is ``causing`` this, not the Mediapad M5
Hi,
Thanks, that's interesting, do I understand that you think that it's a feature (or glitch) in Android 8 and therefore all devices (all makes) running this version will be experiencing the same? It would be hard to believe that this version would be released without testing to see whether such a common use for these devices would work as they have for many years!
I'm really looking for a fix/work around.
Cheers

Old Android stick (android ICS) and USB keyboard driving me nuts

Hi!
Long time since I came here but for the last couple of days I have been playing around with my (old) ToucanHD stick from IconBit.
The thing runs android 4.0.4 and I have been trying to use it with a usb keyboard which kind of works but when I press the "E" key for an example it pops up the e-mail app, when I press "M" it open music and there are several other keys that have a mind of its own.
Also I've noticed the enter button isn't registered as enter.
I've tried using external keyboard helper (pro which I bought) and hoped it would solve my issues (like on my other android box) but the problems are still there.
Anybody have any idea where to look for a solution of this issue?
Okay little update,
the problem turned out to be the keyboard.
I took a wired general usb keyboard and reinstalled and configured the external keyboard helper app........all problems solved.
This Toucan HD stick is really usefull right now despite the fact that it's running an outdated android version.
so far I've managed to get youtube working quite nice and been watching some movies over WiFi on it today....things I couldn't do with the stock config.
I've switched launcher for Top TV Launcher 2 and installed an older version of ES File Explorer and MX Player and now I can use this thing.
Now all it needs is a nice radio streaming app with dutch radio stations and some nice emulators which work with USB gamepad, then this stick would have a second life
All stuff is done unrooted btw since I can't seem to find a working root method for this thing
