Speed using wmodem connection - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Has anyone else noticed that this is horribly slow? About the same as using dialup instead of GPRS. In fact, Windows reports the connection as 9.6k. I know GPRS channel bonding can vary, but it's just always that slow, while I can pick up the PPC, dial normally, and get faster speeds.

Connection priority

anyone knows how to make the wifi take priority in internet access whenever it is turned on and available at the same time with an edge connection, i always have to go to comm manager and turn off the data then turn on wifi to access that wifi speed.. thank you
Some helpful information that might apply to your question can be found at:

<snip>
when enabled, WiFi takes priority over UMTS connection, so even if you have them both up, the phone will choose the wireless network, unless you are trying to browse to a web site which was added to 'exclusions list' (like your operator's home page).
but, only if you have changed the default settings to set that WiFi connects you to the Internet. Which is not the default.
To do so you have to go into the Settings -> Connections -> Network Cards -> Network Adapter.
</snip>
I have found this information on several different forums with several different folks and use cases posted. I also think that you might get some milage out of the "comm mgr pro" or "IP Dashboard" applications as well...
Hope this helps,
Bob
Thank you Bob, ill mess with it a little more and post feedback, that was helpful
Thanks again

still not working right
still my wifi doesnt get the priority over edge! any hints anyone?
Out of curiosity, I have wifi and 3G active in Comm Manager.
Start IE and launch a site, discovered wifi has the priority over 3G.

i only have edge, no 3g for me how did you know which had priority? i would because of edge speed over the wifi speed.. what about 3g, is it almost as fast as wifi, browse quick?

Simple, I have both activated, move near and away my router range.
When the Wifi signal is weak, the service provider (3G, my case) takes over.
Otherwise when the Wifi signal is strong, the 3G never get to activate.
Maybe others had a better and different approach.
All telco service signal should be available unless you are in fringe area.

oh cool, yea this sounds like the way to go so far, noone has come up with a better solution yet? maybe benchmarking the speeds of each stil it depends on your cable provider (wifi i mean)

[Q] changing wifi speed?

hi, noob here.... I checked the forum and didnt see an answer so thougt i would post. I have a wifi connection capable of much faster speeds than my tab is connecting. Can anyone tell me how to change the wifi speed setting? Thanks
Good question, I don't see a setting anywhere for that option.
you mean the same as changing MTU for network cards on a PC? what does your LAN speed test show? For my SGS1, the wifi speeds and the time it takes to connect to a network differs from which modem I use.
I think OP means wi-fi link speed, e.g. 11mbps, 54, 150 or 300mbps. My 11n router doesn't show what speed my tab is connected as and it appears there is no information on tab either. But whatever link speed it is, it will be much faster than my internet connection speed anyway. So it really doesn't matter for me personally. If you use Wi-Fi Kies or other app to download video files from your LAN, it may make some small difference. I'm sure the default is a balance between speed and battery consumption.

Yes that is what i meant.... My tablet connects at 65mbps but my router goes up to 300mbps. I was hoping to link up faster but i dont see a setting for that...

Slow Wi-Fi download speeds?

Has anyone run into slow Wi-Fi download speeds? Speedtest which reports accurate results on my laptop running over Wi-Fi only reaches around 3-4MBit download speeds (Should be around 30MBit) but upload reports fine at 8MBit. It's not just a problem with speedtest and can also be noticed when actually downloading updates/game files. Wi-Fi settings reports a connection of 65MBit but shouldn't this be 130MBit (As laptop reports) when connecting via N Wi-Fi?
Any ideas?
Edit: Seems that channels were at fault, I changed it to auto and the speeds are now respective of the actual connection

[Q] Flaky WIFI alternative solutions?

Hi,
I've tried disabling WIFI powermode (which I do everytime I reboot), but my wifi seems pretty flaky. Speed is great, but it sometimes disconnects (not THAT often).
I have two APs, both set on same channel / SSIDs etc. Looking at wifi analyzer, it seems like the phone doesn't really handle switching between APs very well.
Is there a kernel or mod that would help with that? Or perhaps a better way to set my APs? (DD-WRT and Tomato, all 2.4G). Should I try the modems or is that just for cell network performance?
Especially annoying when using Talkatone or Skype to phone someone and then it drops in the middle of a call.
Thank you!
Setting to AP's within range of each other to the same frequency is asking for trouble.
Having them both broadcast the same SSID more so.
The kernel handles Wifi-related stuff, modem is only for cell communication.
Wifi has no handover protocol such as 2G/3G/4G does, so you'll stay connected to an AP until you loose the connection and then reconnect through the whole connection protocol (including Handshake, Authentication, DHCP, ...) on the next one. So it's a pretty bad protocol for moving around with a constant data stream.
I was under the impression I HAD to have them use the same SSID since this AP is there to extend the range of my home wifi (as per: dd-wrt WAP website I can't post link to since I'm a noob), I'll try setting them to channels 1&11 see if it gets better...
I had issues at work. But not at home.
Today I told it to forget my B/G radio and to connect to the N radio. No disconnects, none..
No changes made to the phone at all..

Slow Network with 3G - H

I found out, if i have bad Network, the Phone stays in it. For example, at work i have a Zone were only "H" is available and very slow. Phone shows 3G and i have 15KB/s DL Speed, wich is not really usable.
If i move to a Zone were it is better Network, it still stays in "H" and i still have only 15KB/s DL speed. But, if i set my Phone in flight mode and back, then i have "H+" (Phone shows still 3G - wich is normal) and DL Speed increases to over 4-5 MB/s and more...
I think there´s a problem with Network Selection, so Phone does not immedialy take the fastest Network, it stays in slow until the user makes a manually reconnect with flight mode of on or like you described with choice of Networks.
This is really disturbing, because at work i always have to set flight mode on and off and wait till connection and then its possible to surf in the internet etc..... before its so slow that you wouldn´t really enjoy surfing in the internet...
Anyone has a solution or a fix for this?
Its really annoying all times to switch flightmode to have usable internet...
No Idea anybody or a tweak?
