GPS - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hi all
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4668&item=3037057310
I have just seen a bluetooth GPS unit that also has an wired interface, specifically
Serial Port via Mini USB Interface
Would it be possible to create a cable that interfaces between this GPS unit and the XDA?
(this would allow you to have a bluetooth capable GPS unit that can be used with the XDAs ... using cable ..... so you are future proof)
Thanks

MDA2 & TOMTOM 3 with Xaiox wired gps receiver no connect

Dear Friends,
I bought an MDA 2 (QTEK2020) and a wired XAIOX X3 GPS receiver and installed TOMTOM Navigator 3.01
The Xaiox is a rather new type I think (can receive up to 16 satellites)
I saw in the list of GPS Receivers that this brand XAIOX was not in, but on the website of Xaiox is mentionned that the gps protocol is NMEA 0183v3 compatible and you should pick 9600 baud rate.
In the TomTom list I saw NMEA 0183v2 9600 (version 2 only). I checked this one and waited 45 minutes, but didn't get any connection.
The field 'receive incomming beams' (like infrared,...) is set out,as i read this could block an incomming port like the receiver.
My Xaiox receiver has no lights,so I can't see any status. It had a serial cable out,and i bought a small piece to convert to USB, and this USB connects to a smaller type of usb on the bottom of the MDA2.
I'm not sure if I should choose 'Serial on Com1' or Serial on USB. But I tried both of them and still no connection. I also tried all of the other brands in the list like Destinator 3,SIRF 9600,TOMTOM,... but no connection.
This GPS receiver is brand new, and I tried it at home with power cable in, cause i the gps receiver had to load also. Also on the road no connection.
I updated to TomTom 3.03 but no change.
1>Is the GPS receiver NMEA protocol V3 too high for the one in the TomTom Navigator list (NMEA v2 only)?
2>Do I choose the wrong port or gps receiver model ?
3>Do I have to close phone connections in order to use GPS ?
I tried 'Turn Flight Mode Off' but it didn't work either...strange stuff...
Thanks and a happy 2005 everyone!!!![/b]
Usb will not work, it will need to be wired for serial connection, what is this mini usb converter you are using? The phone is not capable of communicating with a usb gps receiver because both the gps and the phone are usb slave devices and have no capability to talk to one another.

OBD/Car Diagnostics?

I find it hard to believe that this topic has not been discussed here. Perhaps I didn't hit the right keyword combination in the search (if so, please accept my apologies and kindly guide me in the right direction).
I am interested in connecting my 8125 to the diagnostics port (OBD II) on my car in order to read error messages.
I found this relatively cheap tool online that lets you connect to your laptop.
It also has some links for software that will run on the PPC as well as a serial to USB cable (with mini adapter).
Does anyone know if this is feasible?
Here's the tool:

Here's the PPC software:

oops
I work for a scan tool software / hardware company. We have recently been discussing developing an application for the PPC.
Here are a few additional applications.

I use a bluetooth unit with my laptop and wizard, it is available from
http://www.vitalengineering.co.uk/
I have used it with a few PDA's and it works really well I can clear codes log data from the sensors etc its OBDII and CAN compatible

Thanks for the suggestions!
The unit Rob suggests seems pretty powerful for the price.
And the fact that he's tried it with the Wizard helps!
I think you can download the software and run it in simulation mode to see if it does the things you want it too.
good luck getting the setup you want.

I've also used the Elmscan unit mentioned above with a Sena Serial -> Bluetooth dongle along with my 8125 or a Treo and been able to monitor my idling vehicle from as much as 50 feet away. I'm not sure why I would ever need to do that but it's nice to know it's there.
this sounds interesting, what is this?
OBD lets you peer into your car's computer to see what's going on more or less. Very helpful with cars the have idiot lights instead of guages. Autoenginuity.com has some great software and has bluetooth adapters for the American side of the pond. I think they're $128.00 for the BT module, not sure about the others.
I want to connect my wizard to the OBDII port of my car to use a programm called "VAG-CHECK".
I have an OBDII to USB cable, and i managed to convert it to miniUSB.
My problem is that the software can use only serial ports.
What I believe I need, is a "serial over usb" driver that will implement a virtual serial port and will redirect data to the usb port. Am I right? Do you know if there is such software?
Thanks in advance.
Even if you had the mentioned driver, you would still need a USB host enabled pocket pc. The wizard acts only as USB client, so it's not possible to connect it to any other USB devices rather than a PC.
And - before that question comes up - USB host is not a piece of software, it's hardware! You won't ever be able to add this feature to a Wizard. Sorry...
Thanks a lot!
My next try was to buy a bluetooth to serial adapter, that supports the serial port interface. What I did, is that I paired the two devices, but no serial port is added in the wizard. So I added it manualy (outbound serial port, com6). But neither the OBD software can see this port, nor a hyperterminal emulation. I cannot even initiate this link from the wizard. Is there any way to achieve this?

[Q] Bluetooth on Logitech Revue

I realize that the Logitech Revue communicates with its keyboard via proprietary 2.4GHz communication.
My question is, has anyone successfully used a Bluetooth USB dongle to enable Bluetooth on the Logitech Revue? Is there any method of enabling Bluetooth on this device?
I need to use Bluetooth for sensing users of our application sitting in front of the TV.

[Q] Can GPS receiver/logger be connected via USB to android tablet?

I have a small GPS receiver / logger based on the MTK chipset, similar to products such as iBlue, Holux, Qstarz and Photomate (I have the Photomate 887). These have USB interface to allow the device to stream real-time GPS coordinates through the USB or bluetooth to a PC (or compatible camera).
Is it at all possible for an Android tablet with USB port to receive GPS data from these devices and plot your position on (some) available mapping program - to essentially turn the tablet into the equivalent of a Garmin or Tomtom (etc) GPS trip navigator?
Would an android app do the actual "talking" directly through the USB to the receiver, or is that something that the OS itself would (or must) do?
A second question is - are there any android tablets with actual GPS receivers built into them?
A third question - for an android tablet that doesn't have internal bluetooth, can bluetooth be added via USB adapter?
I think can't

[Q] Android Voltsensory Infomation Transfer to app

i have been wondering for a while now how i could make an application that is like the bluetooth voltmeter., but is capable of reading other sensors and sending the information to a gui interface program or app? i saw someone who used the headset input as a voltmeter with an app but i figure it would have to be through usb . power shoulldnt travel through the headset port but i have had chargers were it connected to the headset port? what is the reason for this?
