Faith Lost in ppc 2003 - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Dear,
I have totally lost faith in new ROM 2003. 2 major bugs that I really cannot stand which are frequent SD card data loss (actually totally wiped out) and inactive screen (in case I turn off the screen, it will not be re-turned on by pressing the button, just have to soft-reset the device) . Could anyone suggest me how to go back to my previous version of rom 2002 which was rom 3.17.03. Please also advice me step by step since I am quite a newbie here. Thanks in advance

all u have to do is restore ur ROM from the backup that u made before going to 2003. write it to the sd card and load it via bootloader method. btw i'm running 2003 and don't have ur problems.
alex

Dear,
First of all, thanks for your recommedation. ANyway, to be frank, I did skip the backing up step when I made the installation of ppc 2003 upgrade, so there is no physical data to back up. BTW, do you know any other ways or file formats besides RUU that might do the trick. I overread it somewhere in the forum that if we install via .BAT file, the downgrading can be possible without the bootloader method. Please help, and thanks again

last time i checked the only way to downgrade from 2003 is via sd card. u need to find rom file for ur operator. i have one for TMO in USA.

I much prefer the easy way of doing things and besides i do not have access currently to the facilities to use the boot-loader method, so i have always used the .BAT method downloaded from either Jeff or XDA people. I have successfully gone from 3.14.xx to XDA 1.1 to XDA 1.2 to WM2003 to XDA 1.2 to WM2003 to XDA 1.2 to WM2003 to XDA 1.2 to WM2003 to XDA 1.2 which is where I am know. The reason for so many changes is that O2 UK GPRS has caused a number of problems for me, although I did get things working over this weekend as far as GPRS was concerned, the disadvantages (for me) of using WM2003 far outweighed the advantages of XDA 1.2.
There is a point to this. From my understanding of things I've read on here if you go from WM2003 to an OEM supplied 'update' you could end up with problems, far better to go WM2003 to XDA 1.2 to OEM.
I hope this helps.

HELP---I Screwed up on upgrade

I made 2 roms from rom kitchen. 1 using the seimens mpc2003 and 1 using rogers 2003 mpc. I installed the seimens 1st and it worked perfectly. Then I got brave and installed the rogers one(they are my carrier). Now I have no more activesync connection nor does the unit see my SD card. I am at a loss on what to do. Can anyone help me?
Have you tried flashing correct rom version using the sd card method through bootloader, although your card isnt recognised by the wm2003 system it will probably be ok in bootloader. I am assuming you are referring to xda 1.
Flashing via SD-Card should work.
There are several Problem with the Rogers ROM.
I think, i will remove it from the kitchen.....
Stefan
rogers rom from the rom kitchen
thanks for the remedy. I read up on bootloader flashing, got comfortable with the process, flashed and was back upgain with the seimens rom wm2003. Thank you for everyones help. Stefan, you're right it would be an excellent Idea to remove from your site even if you warn people of the potential danger..

My Radio ROM update always failed at 10%
Device went to service center for repair
Sascha
well i wanna fix it today, pref not wait a month or three for them to fix/ send it back, i need it (i know probably not even a month but most things end up being longer than quoted in these scenarios)
how can i change my radio rom?
how can i make it writable?
are there any other ways other than using HimaUpgradeUt.exe???
thanks for your time!
Maybe somebody can create you an SD card with the ROM dumps on it (instructions in some other post on this forum) and send to you, so you can restore from there. Just my €0,02....
AFAIK you cannot force Radio ROM via SD card, only normal ROM.
btw. If the Radio update fails then your ROM chip is probably faulty and needs to be replaced
Sascha
hi damnation,
i've seen your other post as well where you mentioned upgrading hte bootloader. pls. don't, it's not wise to do that & sure won't solve your radio install problem. if you insist, you may try it before visiting the repair center.
i'm uncomfortable giving an advice due to the seriousness of your problem but if it's my own himalaya, i would probably try out to format storage using buzz_lightyears storage.cpl tool & doc repartition using toenailed backup partition 0 tools or task 28 via mtty.
those tools, writeups, posts are available at buzzdev.net. the only advice i can give you is to backup your DOC & ROMS before trying anything.
thanks rhmartin, will give it a go!
btw thanks to the others, if i have to send it back to base i will but i pref. not to...
thanks

newbie question on upgrade

hey guys,
please don't get angry with me.
I am just a newbie about upgrading PPC roms. (I was using PalmOS devşces for 6 years until last month)
On my Imate Jasjam I just made a "radio rom update" ; it works fine...
But when it comes to OS updates I am total newbie.
Now I plan to upgrade to WM6 rom but I am too excited. I don't know if I am "ok" to do it.
Do you think the WM6 rom for HTC Hermes works fine on Imate Jasjam ?
(as it is only OS update it should be, but just to be sure)
Any problems that may occur with my Jasjam ?
One other question is:
I know that I have to hard reset before the update. But then, can I restore from my "SK tools" backup over the WM6 OS ?
And last one:
I see on the Radio ROM page that there is a newer radio rom which has "GPS enabled" mark. Also, I see in some of the member's signatures :
"RADIO ROM: 1.35.00.11 (Trinity GPS enabled)"
What does that mean ? Is there really a GPS in all Hermes devices ? Should I only upgrade to that rom to be able to use it ?
Btw, I am sure that most of this is already discussed in one of those very long threads but I am very excited and I wanted to ask it directly.
So please don't flame me...
Thanks for your help.
Hey, there's almost a tacit rule that you have to do a certain amount of reading to be a bona fide member of XDA! Some of your questions indicate that you have done very little... where do you get the idea that you have to hard reset before doing an update!? Start at the WIKI!!
I'll give you this one though... it's an extremely bad idea to retore from a backup after updating the ROM.

thank you.
however, I don't understand why it's a bad idea.
I have many apps installed.
To install them from scratch would be too difficult.
I don't think the places in the registry would be different in new rom.
am I wrong ?
my word of advice, If you're not willing to spend time, then upgrade the ROM is NOT for you.
btw, spend a day or 2 to read the WIKI & some of the stickies.

You are wrong. As others have said, do some reading before you take the plunge. You'll be glad you did.
And if you keep CAB files on your external storage card, reinstalling apps isn't all that difficult. Trust me, I reflash ALL THE TIME and getting up and running after a flash only takes me about 10 mins. Of course, I don't use half the crap everyone else uses; I mainly stick to a few utils and my corporate email.
Thanks for all of your replies...
Mostly they are discouraging ((
I have read many threads about the upgrade process and I couldn't understand why "upgrade the ROM is NOT for me"
It seems simple as running the exe on the PC.
is there something I missed ?
because if you run the wrong exe file from your pc you will end up with a really expensive paper weight
And you've indicated that you're too lazt to reinstall your favorite apps unless you can simply restore from a back-up.
Hint, experiment... I know which apps will work from my storage card without need a fresh install after Rom upgrade or hard reset.
concur: changing ROMs is like crack... once you start, you're hooked
Best to get proficient with the reloading process since eventually you'll wind up being able to do it in your sleep. I actually reloaded from a cold reset while working out at the Gymn once.... (capital G in geek here...)
thank you for all of your replies.
then I will wait some more to see if a more stable wm6 rom is available.
maybe kyphur can release one which is even better than his forst one
then I will hard reset my hermes (as I will need space on it for the update)
and then run the exe from my computer.
then I will have to install all of my apps from beginning.
I hope I don't lose data

Updating/Upgrading a HTC Cingular 8525?

Hi there everyone.
I have just bought a new HTC Cingular 8525 but it is running windows mobile 5. I would like to upgrade but I cannot find any downloads or instructions on how to do so. I do not want to brick up my new phone. Does anybody know a download link to upgrade to the latest windows mobile version that will work on my phone. Its an american bought phone which is unlocked and I am using it in the UK on Three. It used to be locked to at&t and I am pretty sure much of the at&t rubbish is slowing my memory and speed of the unit. If I were to upgrade will the phone still be unlocked?
Rom version is 2.15.502.3
Rom date is 04/09/07
Radio version is 1.40.30.00
Protocol version is 32.73.7020.16H
Operating system is (build 15706.3.5.2)
I am all new to this and would appreciate any advice idiot proof I have flashed many PSPs and other things but nothing like this.
As I have just got the phone I am still trying to work out how to use it so I have no idea how to do a Hard or Soft reset and have no idea about the roms
Sorry to waste your time
Please help
Rob
You should read through the Hermes wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
Make sure you install hardspl! If you install the "official" AT&T WM6 install hardspl again, your phone will stay unlocked, even with custom roms. If you flash one of the big storage roms, then go to try another, flash the "official" rom before flashing another custom rom.
Read the wiki: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Hermes
I would also suggest making sure your phone is "super cid" before flashing custom roms, you'll also be able to flash from an sd card if you are super cid.
Read a bunch before flashing any radio roms!!!
Read, read, and re-read before you flash, and you should be fine. They have made the process fairly straight forward, but you can never be too sure. I have never "bricked" my phone, and I jumped in with both feet!
Mustn't flash a lot then because if you did you will end up with a brick sometime... I've always been able to recover my Hermes but there is STILL the possibility it won't.... one day...

I guess I have been lucky, but I'm sure I haven't flashed as much as others on here. But, I tried to follow the wiki, and tried to learn from others mistakes before I made some of my own. So, I figure if I can flash my Hermes, others should be able to do the same. And I have read up on the issues for when you "brick it", just in case.
I flashed several roms from the beginning (when I got my hermes), and learned a bunch. Then found what I needed/wanted in a rom, and spent days and days and days reading through many threads to find ones that fit me. I actually tried not to flash too much, but that can be a hard temptation to overcome.
So, just trying to pass on what has worked for me, to avoid the hard resets and such.
I would like to attempt cooking my own rom, and have read through tons of info on it, and played with some kitchens. Still working on learning that stuff, it'll give you a good appreciation of what the chefs around here do.

I haven't ran into that one, but I went to the top of the page, clicked search, and typed in "error 260" (without the quotes). And got this http://www.google.com/cse?cx=000825...r+260&sa=Search&cof=FORID:0&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8
hopefully one of those will help you....google is your friend
I found out that its because I'm running vista. I tried to view Mr. Vanx's guide but its no longer there at this link..
http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=23&Itemid=27
So I am a bit stuck as I tried to do the following on here..
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_UpgradeForBeginners
With no avail. It wont even let me install the HARD-SPL as it just gets stuck in bootloader mode with the error 260.
I have no idea what to do now. This process needs to be simplified more
http://www.mrvanx.org/thg/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16&Itemid=26
Now make sure your device is on and activesync (or for vista users the WMDC) is running on your PC

thanks for your help though!

It tells you how to Hard SPL your Hermes with the sd card method. It also gives you ALL the apps needed.
After you Hard SPL your phone you can use the sd card method to flash a new OS. Flashing a new OS though requires you to drop steps 5 & 6 (you don't need sspl.exe once you have Hard SPL). Just remember though that the bootloader won't recognize any sd card bigger than 2gb...
Cheers...
Thanks for that. Its just now I have a problem where my phone is stuck on the Tri-Colour screen
Did you format the sd card fat32 (they are default format FAT) and rename the .nbh file to "hermimg.nbh"?
Is the sd card 2Gb or less?
You're on bootloader, is your SPL 1.09 des? If yes then insert the sd card and reset.
Cheers...
it might be an issue with activesync
i read somewhere before that activesync 6.1 won't sync with WM6 on vista machines.
I had to downgrade mine to ActiveSync 6.0 to get mine working again.
just an idea that might work

[SOLVED] Stuck at bootloader with SPL 3.03 (Need French Orange HD2 ROM)

Hello,
i just want to ask if maybe one of the admins could contact the developers of HSPL, because there are many who bricked their devices because of SPL 3.03. Or maybe one of the developers themselves will read this. HSPL is the last way out in most cases (or finding somebody with a ORT JTAG Tool).
I know that you better should not update a device without collecting information before it. Indeed!
My last phone was a iPhone, so I know what I´m talking ´bout, but sometimes it just happens that you might have skipped any important information or hint.
So please help :/
You bricked your device? wow!
May be you are just stick on the boot screen where it says SPL 3.03, because you tryed to flash a ROM from the SD card that is not for your operator?
Well, if this is the case just flash an older official ROM for your operator, again from the SD card. Than you can use the actual HSPL and flash a custom ROM. That fixed it for me.

of course i already tried that, does not work.
You are not clear.
Can you get your device to boot loader?
If yes, then you can try Gold card method from there.
yes that still works, but i tried goldcard method today (1 time with the rom which bricked my device und with a custom rom and the original orange rom [my hd2 has a orange branding]) and it was not the solution for my problem :/
edit: oh and if it´s of interest: when trying to flash with goldcard method the rom which bricked it, i get the white screen with "Loading..." in the middle and then it says "Not allow" also on a white screen and "0028002" written in red, then gets back to bootscreen.
well since u can get to ur bootloader consider urself lucky it aint bricked..
Do one thing, get the newest stock rom from htc (same spl 3.03) and make sure its the right one for your device(when you enter your serial no. it should accept and give u a download link).
then try flashing that rom..
It should get you up and running.
After that you can start worrying about getting back to the old spl and/or hardspl
New HSPL
I am stuck with the same thing.
If i could only geat a new HSPL for spl 3.03.0000

Try flashing an older stock Rom one that is covered by hspl via SD card method. Then whenever you like to install that latest 3. 14 Rom do it via usb method.

Can you provide the link please?
So from what I understand, OlDirty89 failed to read the fine print and is now in possession of an un-usable phone.
I remember when XDA was actually a community where users like this could actually get help when faced with a situation like this...
EX> I was a noob once. My first PPC was a WM5 HTC Wizard/aka/T-Mobile MDA. I actually stumbled across this forum by accident looking for cool new apps for my phone since lets face it.. WM5 is very bland. I saw what I thought was the coolest thing I'd ever seen - a complete OS replacement loaded with new features I'd never seen on a phone before and sure enough, without reading, I downloaded and attempted to flash the ROM. Naturally, it failed and I panicked. I had paid just over $300 for the phone after all.. I came back to this site, opened a new thread titled "PLEASE HELP ME!!" and within an hour, the more seasoned users on this site helped me restore my phone to the factory state and guided me in the right direction, teaching me everything I could have ever wanted to know about WM and how to customize it. I did eventually get that cool custom ROM on my Wizard and became an established member of the community.
^^^^ This is why I absolutely CANNOT STAND flamers... Flaming a user for being less knowledgeable than you is just plain pathetic... Shows what you're like on the other end of the keyboard too... You know it was really funny because I stumbled across a statistic once that stated that 60% of users who join these forums and flame other users are overweight virgins living with their parents... Just thought that was a funny statistic worth mentioning...
Now with all of that being said.. Let's help this guy. He clearly needs it else he wouldn't have posted this thread asking for it. I'm not saying that someone should write a step-by-step tutorial right here in this thread telling him exactly how to undo what he's done, just guide him in the right direction...
This speech really reminds me of a movie I saw not too long ago...

Just my 2 cents...

But I hate to say, unless we can get some powerful brainstorming goin on and figure out how to drop an engineering SPL (MFG) with mtty I don't think we can help..
I started a thread a little while back -- Stuck with SPL 2.02.0000 - Test ROM? that you might wanna read through to understand your situation a little better.
And just fyi, you can play/flash between 2.02 and 2.03 without problems, just DON'T try flashing 2.01 from those two.. left me with a lovely little brick.
(this is only if you flashed the 2.03 from this thread)

IT WORKS! I am also with Orange France and had no issue in reverting back by flashing the latest Orange FR original rom from the SD card.
You can get it here:

Then open with winrar or other archiver and extract the ruu_signed.nbh. Rename it to LEOIMG.nbh, and flash it from the SD card.

IT WORKS! I am also with Orange France and had no issue in reverting back by flashing the latest Orange FR original rom from the SD card.
You can get it here:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=B9HDHTMW
Then open with winrar or other archiver and extract the ruu_signed.nbh. Rename it to LEOIMG.nbh, and flash it from the SD card.

Hello,
i just want to ask if maybe one of the admins could contact the developers of HSPL, because there are many who bricked their devices because of SPL 3.03.

I experienced same things after return my phone for screen problem. Orange france gave me a new one and then my problem began. I made all the needed steps to flash a new radio and Artemis ROM and my phone became crazy. Radio failed at 99%, random soft reset etc... By chance there is a new version (1.72) on the website of orange. With HSPL2 i managed to downgrade the SPL to 1.66 version and flash with the last official orange ROM.
Frequently, my phone continue to soft reset itself and became crazy. Can't use it on a whole day, without soft reset 10 times. I decided to return it to Orange (SPL, ROM and Radio where the good ones). Received a new one, immediatly flash my phone with artemis V36 and radio 2.10.50_28 and all is ok with this last phone.
Probably problems come from the phone and not the way you try to revert back...

Hi, I've got the same problem with my Orange HD2.
I can not find any original older ROM to flash with HSPL.
No any chance to install any different rom than my "French language" ROM which is my exact problem I wanna WWE.
