Hey here is something I just noticed.
I dunno exactly what it means, but I am guessing.
I flashed my XDA to WM2003 and running the AT&T Radio stack. I been bouncing between my AT&T and Tmobile sim. But after doing a cold boot tonight with the Tmobile sim I just noticed something.
When I power up the phone, and it is detecting the network, I get a Pyramid shaped icon next to the signal strength for a few seconds then it goes away. Now when I bring up the phone to make a call, next to "T-mobile" on the upper right I have a black Pyramid icon next to it. Does that mean the phone is roaming?
If I put the Tmobile sim in my unlocked Samsung v205 it does the same thing, only it has a "R" at the top. My wife has Tmobile, she is using a Motorola phone and it never displays any kinda roaming icon.
Do you think it is the SIM by chance? Or the ROM?
Looking for some kind of answer. The manual for the XDA doesn't show that icon in there. weird.

I have been getting a triangle that keeps popping up where the G normally show up when the device connects to GSM. I am on PPCPE2003 build out of the ROM kitchen.
What does this mean?
Thanks
Roaming, i.e. not your normal operator. Usually happens when in another country.

Oddly, this happened to me when I switched from ATTWS to T-Mobile in my home T-Mobile market. It stayed like this for about a month, and all of the sudden one day, the triangle stopped coming up in my home market. No roaming was ever reflected in the bill though. I would check your bill just to insure there are no roaming charges being passed to you.
T-Mobile USA's network is a mixture of a lot of networks that they bought over time, as well as some roaming agreements with others (Cingular for example).
This means that technically you are roaming when using T-mobile a lot of the time, but they don't charge for it, since it is either now owned by them, or covered by an agreement.
I noticed that the T-mobile radio stacks 'hide' the triangle...probably so people don't get confused/worried. They also try to rename the service to 'T-Mobile' on your phone (in the case of VoiceStream/Cingular etc.) to make it more user friendly.
The AT&T radio doesn't hide it.
TMo hide the 'G' too. Wierd.
cheers,

Hi all,
I'm on t-mobile in the uk and on my previous phone (htc hero) I was able to flick automatically to Orange's signal when I had poor t-mobile signal. When this would happen the phone would let me know I was roaming.
However, on my new Galaxy S2 it never seems to change to Orange's signal and my phone is never roaming. This has resulted in me having worse reception on my new phone over my old hero.
Has anyone else experienced this and if so is their something I can do to fix it?
I'm using the standard unrooted rom.

Mine would never do this either.
Go to the mobile network settings and MANUALLY connect to Orange.
Then wait for it to connect and then go back in and choose Automatic.
This fixed it for me my phone now roams.
Did you take out a new contract for your phone? Maybe you need to activate the network sharing again from the tmobile website.

Thanks, just tried this but still no joy. Interestingly when I manually connect to "T-Mobile Orange" instead of just "T-Mobile" and then check the roaming status, it still says "Not roaming" - shouldn't it say "Roaming" when I'm on Orange?

Thanks, I called T-Mobile a couple of weeks ago to check to see if anything needed setup on my account and she said that it was all good to go. I think T-Mobile have removed the ability to opt-in to network sharing as I can't find it anywhere, I think it's automatically enabled for all new accounts.
It's driving me mad as I feel like I'm missing out on something and I can't see any way to fix it :-(
ok i just manually switched to orange and it says i'm not roaming. That's what i'd expect to see as both networks are considered 'home' networks. Maybe you just haven't been in an area with no tmobile coverage??
I had to send a text to T-Mobile (1221 I think) to use the Orange network when I had the HTC HD2. It switched seamlessly when I went out of a T-Mobile signal area.
When I upgraded my phone to the SGSII, there was still no problem switching networks. Admittedly I used the same SIM card, so that might be the switch-over went so smooth.

Yeah i remember having to send a text to opt in to the network sharing, though as the OP has pointed out i believe it's automatic now for new contracts.
Thanks all. I've realised that it's simply that my old Hero used to show a roaming icon but the gs2 doesn't. It still flicks automatically from tmobile to orange.
I wish I spotted that before using up your valuable time!

*****NEW PROBLEM******
: I'm stuck on edge!! with no way of getting into the service menu to force GSM ALL or whatever.
I've checked all the apns, and I've tried flashing other radios.
What gives?

Hey,
I have a rogers locked note i717R
I installed TWRP/Rooted and flashed ptmr3's |ROM|| JEDI || Sons Of Android || Buid 4 || 3|28
Before flashing, I was on official ICS for Rogers.
I have a registered, active SIM (Works on another phone) Rogers SIM and I'm using a Roger's ICS Radio Rogers ICS RUXLF4 modem
Yet, I have no service.
APN's are already pre-configured from the SIM... and are there...
But no service/signal at all.
Any ideas guys?
Flash a different modem to eliminate that. I would suggest the LF6 for at&t, but it will work on the Rogers bands.
No service at all? You mean phone and data? If phone signal is not working then I would reflash the ROM.
Sometimes my signal just drops for no apparent reason. Reboot and it's back. Weird but it happens.
Maybe try under network mode settings? See which band it is trying to access first?

Three great suggestions, OP. Did any help?
Heehee, probably put the sim in backwards. Can't say I've never done that. :silly:
Oops, me neither.
Hey guys thanks for the suggestions.. turns out it was a damaged SIM port.
I tried literally everything before taking it to a cell phone repair shop - they confirmed it was the SIM tray that was damaged. Oh well.
Did they quote you a price for the repair? I'm pretty sure its beyond most of our skill levels.
Actually ranger, it turns out it was the antenna that was damaged, and not the SIM tray.
Either way it was $60 to repair it
I have everything up and running. However, I'm stuck now on Edge for some reason, with no way to get into the service menu to force 4G or 3G =/
Okay so I somehow fixed it by messing around with APN settings and #*#*4636*#*# Lol
Not sure how but its working

Well, antenna makes sense. A while back several users developed butter fingers and antennas were coming loose left and right. They just had to push in the module a little to correct it. But we knew it was the antenna module because gps wasn't working either.
I've searched and didn't find any thread with this kind of issue specifically. I have a Verizon Galaxy S4 that doesn't seem to like GSM SIM cards; it looks like it is not GSM unlocked. I have tried every trick to get it to switch to GSM but it doesn't. I have flashed the same version firmware it came with (ME7) just to be certain it's factory restored, and also updated to MK2, yet no GSM. It sees the SIM card but doesn't show a signal, even when I manually switch to GSM/UMTS. I have programmed a CDMA number on it manually then tried the GSM switch again, yet no GSM signal. It sees CDMA signal fine though and can even make calls on CDMA. I even had to check the MEID/IMEI and it came back clean so I'm just surprised at all this. I have done this before successfully on a Verizon S3 and it worked well, how come the S4 has refused to work on GSM?
Please help, anyone?
Did you input APN's?
I thought APN settings had to do with data. I will do that now. I'm willing to try anything now.
Thanks.
I am having the same issue with a couple s4s from verizon as well. Checked the IMEI/MEID and they come up clean but they will not catch a signal with a gsm SIM card. I have tried several active AT&T and T-mobile SIM cards in the phones with the same results, no service/signal. Very strange as I have never had an issue with verizon S4s working on AT&T or T-mobile. The weird thing is that with a verizon SIM they catch signal and 4G just fine. Toggled GSM/CDMA and put in APNs and still no luck. I'll keep trying to work this out but right now I am stuck.
I had the same problem here
My GT-I9505 Rom Stock 4.4.2 ZTO(Brazil) had the same problem about signal problem.
Everytime i lock my phone (turning off the screen), by the time i light it on (lock screen), immediatelly my phone turns the signal to "No service".
In this time, i need to wait 1-2 minutes to the phone turns okay. Just wait.
I search for a lot of solutions and didn't find anything.
Notice too that the problem appears only network 2-3g. 4G didn't have the problem.
I solved this problem after Lollipop update. The problem simple dissapear!
(Sorry my bad english)
the title is the question. but isn't the sprint and verizon versions of the htc one max hardware wise 100% the same? can i flash a verizon rom, and i'm assuming kernel, and maybe even bootloader to a sprint phone, it still keep my sprint IMEI?
Now i know that doing something like this will not allow me to use this device on the verizon networks, and that is not my goal, my goal here is to be able to use my one max on straight talk, with an ATT sim, so that i can connect at greater than 1 bar of signal. Because I'm currently on straight talk with my sprint one max using my old sprint sim card and the phone will not connect to sprint towers unless i'm RIGHT under the said tower. It is always saying ATT network provider. And if i turn the radio off, then back on, it will connect to ATT with FULL lte bars, but then after about 15-20 seconds later it will go down to 1 bar of signal. THE ONLY time I've ever seen it over 1 bar of signal is like i said, when i'm RIGHT UNDERNEATH a sprint tower, which is rare in metro Atlanta OTP.
I have tried doing the sim unlock methods posted in XDA for the one max, but NONE of them work for some reason. So i'm curious at what could make this not work, or if anyone has done this, or what. And i'm not worried about soft bricking this phone, I have rom backups and bootloader files save on my computer, so as long as ADB can read the device, i can revive it. Any helps, tips, links, articles, or whatever you have will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
