SX56 - in South Africa - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Hello All
Just a quick question to see if anyone had got the SX56 to work in South Africa. Currently running on 3.17.03ENG but alas no Phone signal as yet after some hair raising experiences with Flash ROM
Your help would be much appreciated

You need to change the band to 900MHz. The SX56 automatically defaults to 1900.
Phone Options More

I had exactly the same problem in SA. I found that sometimes, getting to the more options is a problem. If you have this issue, you can get to the GSM bootloader (by pressing the power swtch while soft-resetting and then pressing the task hardware button) and change it to 900/1800.
This should work fine.

SX56 in South Africa
Thanks guys for the advice
But alas no joy with reseting to GSM and a Cold reset it STILL says NO service when I look at the connectivity bar and not able to find a network when searching for it either
I guess it's cause I upgraded to the wrong Radio Stack (4.21.00) version last week. Which was a bit silly on my part. I guess that there is no turning back to another Radio Stack?
Pity I was really forward to using the GPRS - in RSA

Problems with SX-56 rom, HELP !!!

hello.
i have the siemens SX-56 device and i did a rom burning of the special rom 1.2 from xda-developers.
the problem is that i have no reception.
something in the phone module got wrong.
i tried various bands, i tried different sims...but nothing.
i get zero reception and i cant make a call.
what to do?
have i been doing something wrong?
i tried to burn the 1.2 rom several times, but each time was the same.
PLEASE HELP
Thank you guys.
I also get no reception but I'm beginning to believe it's because I'm running Cingular and they run on th 850mhz band which the phone doesn't support
So I've now changed to the Special Addition ROM and the T-Mobile Radio Stack. When I go to the network selection within the phone tools, the only two that show are T-Mobile and AT&T. I'm running Cingular, but I was under the impression that I should be able to piggyback my coverage on T-Mobile coverage. For some reason, I still get no signal and when I try to tell it to connect to T-Mobile I get an error message.
bad upgrading!
Tried Flashing in T-Mobile ROM and the Radio Stack and it went through no problem. Still getting same issue. Could it just be the area I'm in, Syracuse NY that is.
Please help me too, i have the same problem...
does anyone here knows what to do?
Do NOT use the SX-56!!!!
I read alot of complaints about this ROM, its buggy!
You could try changing bands from the gsm bootloader menu.
Thank you for your reply,
i have already tried several bands from the bootloader.
is there a special way to change bands?
i chose the band i wanted, and right after that i did a SR.
is that right?
isnt there anyone here who could know whats going on? this is so bizzare.
Thank you

URGENT HELP NEEDED PLEASE - Need to change radio frequency

I am leaving for a flight to europe in a few hours from Canada.
I was looking up the usage charges on Rogers.com http://www.shoprogers.com/store/wireless/coverage/international.asp?shopperID= to find that the countries that i will be travelling to use the 1900mhz frequency. i should have known this.
Anyway, my XDA with 2003 on it is in 1900 mode for north america right now
I remember i used a cooked 2002 rom that had a little util in it that let you change the radio frequency to 900/1800 without a hard reset. I cant remember for the life of me what it was called.
if someone can please post a name or better a link to the software, hoping that it works under 2003, i would be very much appreciative. I dont want to have a paperweight while i am travelling.
Thanks everyone in advance.
Ian
dont know of such a program
but your device can work at 900/1900 and eu devices can work at 900/1800
so your device should be able to work with any eu operators who use 900
Ths tool ist the bandswitchtool.
Take a look here:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/wiki/BandSwitchTool
I had never tried it, nor anything else done with it. But try searching here in the forum. Maybe fou find some important hints....
Wish you a good traveling.....
HTH
Stefan
You can boot into the bootloader menu, and change your band to 900/1800 without using the tool. However, quality can be quite bad because your phone is not native 1800 Mhz. I used my telephone for quite some months running on another band, and with some providers my reception was very bad.
regards
Thank you everyone for your help.
Based on what Rudegar mentioned, i am hoping that my phone will just work when i get there
I set my phone back to 1900... wish me luck
I also got the bandswitch tool just in case.. it doesnt seem to work though., it says my current radio is ERROR. Does nothing when i click the frequency buttons
Thanks again
Ian

T-mobile, no signal on 800 network band

Hi I'm a newbie here, I just got upgraded my t-mobile to Rom version 4.01.00 eng, before it was 4.16.00 eng, it has a signal from my network but when I upgraded it, I didn't get any signal from my network but when I try to select networks my provider reflects on the list as well as the other networks. Is my t-mobile worn out?
thank you for all the help you could give me...
You could try entering bootloader to make sure 900/1800 is selected. I think this hard resets your phone so backup first. Hold power button while pushing stylus in reset hole, push button below antenna, choose 900/1800 then soft reset.
t-mobile no signal
thanks for the help, but still it didn't work, any other ways?

cingular 8525 in brazil problem

i live in the usa and i have the 8525 and i unlocked it and supercid unlocked it via pof's method.. i used fit4cat to tweak it out a little and the ptt hack to use voice command via the ptt button...
Right now i am in brazil and i have tried several peoples sim cards and none of them seem to work.. it does not give me the invalid sim message so i know its unlocked...have i done something to my phone with the hacks and unlocks that make it not workable in brazil ..is there some setting that i need to set in order to have the phone work in brazil on TIM or Claro that im not doing...
Please help.. as of right now i am sitting in a hotel room trying to get my phone to work via the internet...
thanks

anyone have any solutions???
I would say look at the wiki to find the registry tweak that enables the band selection in the phone options. And then try changing the band.
Brazil is a 900/1800 GSM-band country. Have you tried switching your phone to GSM-only?
Incidentally, I'm heading there myself next week, and I'm equally curious about how the phone will react to the network down there...
well, i hardreset the phone and put it back to orriginal and that still didnt work.. i also was online with cingular tech support and they said everything should be working.. well it isnt.. and they also said it could be the radio of my phone... so as of right now im sitting in a hotel in sao paulo downloading the rom from htc http://www.htcamerica.net/support/8525/software-downloads.html ...maybe if my install got messed up some how this will fix it... on another note.. my girlfriends Moto Pebl works fine with both mine and her cingular simcard.. full service.... how strange.. ..
if i didnt the regestry tweak to pick networks to be on that might fix it .. but i should be fully able to roam already...
if anyone has some ideas' im all ears..
I found a similar thread over on HoFo. One guy also posts a solution. Here is the link: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1058899

well i must say.. i didnt think this would work because of the fact my phone should work here by default.. but hey.. i gave it a shot.. i did the tweak and in the phone settings tab i set the phone band to select network type = auto and select gsm umts to GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(2100)..then reboot to let it search again.. and blam.. it worked.. thanks guys...

one more question that is off topic... on the bottom of my 8525 the mini usb hole as a black lip around it.. on one side of it its flush with the phone and on the other side it is raised a little above the casing... is this the same with all of them.. or is the usb bezzle black thing deffective on mine?

I work for Cingular and know that they sometimes do things that don't seem logical. Like building the ROM and not allowing the auto detect of a network.
Hi there, I´m from Brazil, if you want call me, send me a pm first. I have a Tytn and universal working.

EUREKA!!! Thanks for finding and posting this, Abe. I'm having exactly the same problem in Australia and I did the same thing as you; now I have cell service!
BLAZES, CURSES AND GENERAL DAMNATION TO CINGULAR for removing the 'Band' tab from Phone | Settings. I mean really, if you'd never used WM5 before, how would you even know it was missing? It's like one of Rumsfeld's Unknown Unknowns.
HTC Tytn in Brazil - Easy with the Tweaking
Hi Guys!
Before you guys go on tweaking your devices to death, try something simple! I just got back from the Far East where my Dopod was running 3G. I had selected Auto on the network type and band. Guess what, my phone was dead! I reseted and hard reseted and eventually it occurred to me that the problem may lie in the networks setting. For some reason my Brazilian service provider (TIM) is sometimes unable to "inform" the phone what kind of network it is running and what band. Thus I forced it to GSM and selected 900+1800+ UMTS(2100). It works perfectly ever since!
Cheers
yeh, i cant figure out why they removed the band tab... it is very usefull to have... and when i was on cingular.com i went to a live techsupport chat where the woman told me my phone was deffective, and when talkin to her i realized i had more knowledge then her on the device and quickly x´d out of the window in the middle of the conversation... Bottom line is that cingular should have never removed that band tab from the phone.. well, im happy for whoever this post helps ....

wierd thing happend... after i did the reg tweak and had my phone picking up service i then went to install a few apps i needed on the phone... i didnt like the way things were going so i decided just to hard reset the phone and start from scratch... after a hard reset the phone suddenly picked up service with no reg tweak.. i cant figure out why this happend because i hard reset the phone before i applied the reg tweak and still got no service..... so no my phone had no reg tweak and service. ..strange.. i wanted to cover my ass so i applied the reg tweak again to be on the safe side...
fit / finish around usb port

I just replaced a buggy 8525 with a new Cingular 8525, and both of them have the black bezel sticking out from the outside just a bit. nothing a dremel tool wouldn't fix (/shudder/)
I have had the "no service" problem in both Sao Paulo, and Rio... I did the band selection registry change described on the wiki, will see tomorrow if the phone change or the reg. change fixed my "no service" problem in Brazil.
as a side note, the macro slide next to the camera lens was very loose on the old phone, would almost move by shaking the phone... the new phone has alot of resistance when sliding the macro knob...the old one must not have been attached to anything!
UPDATE: New phone works great in Brazil, I did the registry change to allow access to the "Band" selection in the phone settings, but did not have to change them from the default "Auto" settings to allow it to find the networks in both Sao Paulo and Rio. I believe the new phone fixed the problem.
Cingular 8525 in Brazil
You guys are fantastic! I cannot thank you enough for the apparent solution to the problem those of us with Cingular 8525s in Brazil have had.
I have lost many hours, not to mention some $$$, trying to get around the "no bars icon of death" on my 8525 when I was in Brazil. Cingular have been totally incompetent in trying to provide a solution, although they recognize a problem. I just posted a message in their forum suggesting they get their incompetent selves over to this forum to learn something.
I am going to try to apply the reg tweak, although I am not as technically competent as most of you. Now I can't wait until I have to go back to Brazil on business!
I'm from Brazil...
I bought an iPaq from Cingular long time ago, and I had a lot of problem to get it working here. Now I have 2 Qteks, on boght on Europe and other one bought in Brazil, both working great here.
I think the problem is always Cingular.

GR8 Conclusion!
I've mine TyTN as well, working good since that arrived here.
Hi
The problem actually is VIVO. The started a new GSM operation at the 850 band and since them all the Windows Mobile quadband devices (also triband with 850 Mhz) try to register first at Vivo. Due to a bad network configuration, the phone do not try other bands and networks and remains at SOS Only - Emergency Only since Vivo will not allow registration with another SIM card. The same problem happens with Smartphones too, even with Treo 650.

Here goes some "official info" I found:
Cingular said:
From Cingular:
International Roaming Device Issue
Issue Description:
Cingular has identified an international roaming issue impacting several
different handsets and resulting in loss of service. Specifically, users
may experience problems when devices are taken into an area where North
American (850/1900) and European (900/1800/2100) frequencies co-exist.
Cingular is not the only North American carrier impacted since the issue
is device-related, not network-related.
The following countries currently have carriers broadcasting on both
North American and European frequencies:
Brazil
Australia
Trinidad and Tobago
Thailand
The following are known devices impacted at this time:
Treo*
Samsung BlackJack
BlackBerry 7290, 7100g
LG CU500
*As a workaround, Treo users may leverage the devices ability to scan
for carriers on specific frequencies.
Current Status:
Cingular is in the process of engaging the device vendors identified
with impacted devices.

Yeah, I saw this in the Cingular user's forum. Did you notice that our 8525 is not listed in Cingular's publication?

Can anyone help? - No Signal

Hi folks, can anyone please help me with this problem?
My brother in law has asked me to look at his S740. He has tried several o2 SIM cards (UK) in this phone but always gets told there is no signal.
Not only that, but there is a symbol where the strength meter should be that isn't documented in the user guide.
He has also tried my o2 (3G) sim and a Vodafone sim, both UK.
Any advice gratefully recieved. We have tried several hard resets also.
Thanks
This means it's looking for signal. My guess: Still SIM-locked?

Not sure if it's SIM locked as there is a menu to select which carrier to use.
It reads the SIM correctly and sets it all up for o2, but just doesnt get any signal.
Does anyone know where the GSM antenna is on these? Maybe its a bad connection.
UPDATE:
I've had a mail back from HTC that recommends I send it in for repair, lol.
Now do I take it they are robbing buggers or do I take it that the icon is an indicator of a hardware fault??
Hmmmm, dilemma. lol
Are there any more suggestions on what it may be?
Has anyone successfully taken one of these apart?
it may be because of a hardware error...try to connect to a wifi network...if it impossible to find a wifi network then it is due to a harware problem. Most likely because the FR coaxial cable is out of its possision...download the service manual and see how to fix it.

Hi sasiskas, it conects fine to my wireless network at home. I take it from your response that the cable serves a double purpose.
I downloaded the service manual so I could take a look, but only got as far as removing the 4 screws at the back. lol, I couldn't figure out how to get it off, lol
I'm still stuck at the assumption that it is indeed SIM locked, and so will try to find a suitable card to try out.

Thanks. I have tried the same but just keep getting a vender ID, (lol spelling), error.
I would appreciate any input whether you have success or not, it just may spark an idea off.
I cant get in touch with any sales or provider as it was gifted to my bro in law. He's not that bothered about it but would like to have it working if he can.
Thanks folks.
Hey! I think I know the solution to your problem...I had exactly the same problem when I hardReseted my phone.
Go to "Start-settings-Phone-Band Select"
and then select
1.Network type : Auto
2.Band Type : "Euro" if you live in Europe, "US" if you live in USA , or "Japan" if you live in Japan.
Good luck...Let us know if it worked!

Yes that is a good suggestion because the phone will display that icon if it can't find a *usable* network, be it that the SIM doesn't allow it or if the bands don't match the selection on the phone or the bands are not usable by the phone hardware etc.
I would suggest downloading & running HTC Field Test (fieldtest.exe) with & without a SIM installed, with each network & band setting & see if it shows any towers or signal. (Normally you want Auto for both but you may not have that option or you might prefer to set to a KNOWN working band to conserve battery & minimize searching) If should show something even without SIM or with SIM lock because it's supposed to support emergency calls either way. If it shows signals with SIM but you still have same no service icon then it's likely SIM locked (although the phone should alert you to that fact) so odds are the phone hardware, rom or settings do not support whatever signals are available to you. (Btw if field test shows N/A for all the values you need to app unlock your phone)
Hope that helps.
Bill
can you share a link with HTC Field Test?Thnx
Search is your friend.

Hey all I'm having a very similar problem.
Had my HTC for some months now but in the past few days I've found that my network signal is becoming very unpredictable.
I'm also on O2 and I used to have a pretty contstant H (I presume HSDPA) connection.
Howeever im finding now the phone with go from H to 3G to GPRS to E to no signal in the course of 5 mines and round and round again!
Its very annoying as it means I cant make / received calls or texts fluently and even cut me off on a phone call too.
However usually on phone calls it will keep me connected ok till I hang up and then go to no signal.
I've checked the wireless and it is picking up networks..
Any other suggestions? I will try the field test tomorrow...
PS I know its not the network as my work blackberry is O2 and is not having this issue..
Cheers in advance!
Well, just to close my input on this thread.
I tried various ROM's available from this site and none worked.
I did try the band selection settings but still a no go.
I did have limited success but overall, nothing. The phone has now gone back to the person who asked me to look into it and to my knowledge he is going to sell it to one of these phone reclaim companies.
I did check and one place, I think through the post office, is offering £80 ish so not bad I suppose.
Anyway, thank you to all who have made suggestions and wotnot. Personally I'm still happy with an old Nokia 6300 and my Wizard (Mini-S)
Thanks folks.
