AIM for T-Mobile - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

I have a unlocked at&t sx56 I am using with t-mobile. You guys know how t-mobile phones come with a T-Zones button? Does the T-mobile version of the sx-56 have it? I really want to use AIM but I cant get it to work!

aim for pocket pc costs about $20 from handango
run a search on google / yahoo, and look for aim for pocket pc brazil
the brazil version is still free for some reason
all the screens are in english which is nice
to my knowledge this is a legal copy
(funny, aim for pc was allways free, for pocket pc it isnt. whats up with that ?)

It also came bundled with the T-Mobile Test ROM version 4.00.16 but has since been removed in 4.00.21.
But being the person that I am I copied it to SD before I upgraded to 4.00.21. So for those that need it drop me an PM/Email and I'll send you a copy
HTH

Qman, i dont get it!
i thought you couldnt backup and restore different versions of OS (.16, .21)
AIM was in rom, and now its not, wouldnt restoring it from sd, crash the os? since it will be calling subroutines that probably are not there no more!?
if you realy solved THAT problem, that you may have solved mine too!
i hate 2003, but i want that new media player, if backing up and saving helps, then i'll just restore the media into 2002

You shouldn't backup and restore from a different/upgrade versions OS!
But even though AIM was built into ROM it was installed to main memory. I guess for the purpose if you didn't use it you could just delete it or move it to your SD card to gain the memory space.
HTH

Just wondering does .21 come with all the T-Mobile apps like batt monitor and T-menu in system tray?
If not the reason AIM is missing is there are two ROMs floating they are both US orgin. One for AT&T Wireless, and one for T-Mobile. This might be the aws newest nbk. Just a thought. Seems odd it would be removed unless they intend to include the new version in their release ROM.

Its the T-Mobile ROM all right ROM 4.00.21. If you read the thread where it was first introduced you'll see reports that AIM had been removed.
HTH

I have Siemens sx56 with T-mobile network with 4.00.21.
I have the battry indecator and Tmobile menu on the taskbar.
This is just for your information...

UK o2 XDAII upgrade advice?

Hi.
I don't want to seem stupid or ignorant, but I'm struggling to choose a SE ROM to upgrade with.
I have a UK O2 XDAII, with the latest available upgrade provided by o2. However, I am led to believe that SE is much better, is this the case? And if so, is it worth upgrading?
My main dilemma is this: there are many conflicting opinions on whose ROM is the best and so on. I really need one I can upgrade to and have the o2 UK settings in place (for gprs, sms etc), and anything after that is a bonus. Oh, the o2 active nonsense etc. is just not needed (but I will happily remove these myself if I need to).
Can someone recommend a ROM and extended ROM to upgrade with? I'm sure there are legions of XDAII users in the UK who would also appreciate this advice.
Thanks in advance,
Stegz
Ok, well Final Zero's ROM seems to be popular, would anyone recommend that?
I am bumping this because i also need the same advice for UK, its all a bit confusing for a newbie
and me 8)
I'm in the uk and i have installed sin's rom (v2.0) and it has been running fine for a month.
When asked choose not listed for your local settings - this provides two problems however - 1) you have to set up wap or gprs manually (not difficult and instructions can be found on o2,orange, etc websites)
2) for me o2 Active was not installed. but i consider that a blessing.
my phone runs perfectly

Not a problem at all
Hi,
I've just put on WM2003SE a few days ago. Few quirks but I can live With them. Mines the Irish model but the Irish and UK upgrades have always been the same so I don't see this being a problem for you.
ftp://xda:[email protected]/HimalayaSE206/windowsmobile2003se.exe
You also might want to upgrade to ActiveSync 2.8 as well. Not sure if you have to, though.
I just ran the setup and it worked. To be safe, don't use your somputer while the upgrade is being done and make sure that your XDAII is fully charged.
Problem
Hello, I have the English XDA II, and when I tryied to install this rom it answered me back with a message: error 120, country code error.
does anyone have any Idea of what to do?
Hi,
That brand it has its pda?

hey folks, I just did the same as ranger did and now have a nice new wm2003se on my Irish xda ii as of 5 mins ago. looks pretty cool. cheers for that ranger. btw ranger, have you put all your O2 specific stuff back on? I see the text messages and all are working grand but what about gprs & O2 active etc? cheers m8
I don't use GPRS. Any internet related stuff I do while I'm docked in work. Got a nice fat 1MB line each way.
O2 Active Sync. I'm glad I got rid of it. It was awful. It was the one Internet 'App' that I could not get working over docked internet. It insisted on a GPRS connection to give O2 more money.
I suppose I should have recorded my GPRS settings before I flashed, but not to worry.
Thanks for that ranger, when u install it does it wipe out all your existing installed programs and data?
It wipes everything.
OS ROM, Extended ROM and updates the Radio stack.
There will be nothing left of the original software if you do the normal install. Then again, if you obtain certain tools from this website you may just be able to flash the OS ROM only.
I didn't bother as I didn't really care either way.
upgrade way back?
If after using your WM2003SE ROM I still wish to return to a regular O2 ROM:
Do you advise me to make an O2 ROM backup (something I should first learn), or can I re-install the regular O2 ROM (WM2003) from the o2source site without hickups?
I'm not sure
That I'm not sure about. There maybe topics somewhere here on the forum that might say if it's possible or not.
I haven't tried it myself but I may do in the future. There are some things I'm not happy about in WM2003SE but the pros far outway the cons.
My device can be very un-responsive at times
There are only 3 alarms rather than the 4 with the O2 source.
It probably wouldn't so any harm to back up your ROM beforehand, though.

Help, technical gurus - please

I recently bought a TyTNfor almost $900 including a 2 GB expansion card. Despite dozens of hours of trying to get it to work correctly, I find th TyTN almost intolerably buggy.
Specifically:
1) the phone loses connections frequently -- much worse than the Cingular 8125 or my old Treo 650.
2) numerous application programs either crash the device or do not run properly -- specifically, the Audible.com player, the the automated download feature or of Audible Air, most of the SPB utility applications, SBSH Weather (VGA Icons), SBSH Ilauncher and others.
3) the battery life absolutely sucks. I get less than eight hours of operation -- with very few telephone calls. I do have Microsoft push e-mail turned on. However, this ought to work -- for God's sake, or what's the point?
4) the screen/stylus requires re-alignment at least twice a daily..
Is there anyone out there who can help me and walk me through the installation of a new ROM, or some kind of update that makes this device work in a tolerable manner?
I would be very happy to pay you for your consulting time. Otherwise, I want to try to get HTC to take this buggy phone back for a full refund and I will go back to using my old Treo 650.
Many thanks for your attention and future help.
ROM version 1.18.255.3
ROM date 07/22/06
Radio Version 1.03.03.10
Once I hear that you have alignment problems, then, from what I hear you have bad luck since you have one of the firt TyTns out there. I heard that HTC replaces these units. It hapens to be a common problem on the early devices.
I have my MDA Vario II (a variation of a Hermes) and till now 4 days long extremely happy with everything.

Well, I am sorry you are having these problems. I don't think most of them are a Tytn problems in general.
1) First I have heard of this. I have had the Tytn for a month now and don't have that problem. I move in and out of a 3g area and whether on GSM or UMTS, call quality has been great (better than my Wizzard in fact). Maybe your problem is a SIM issue since this phone is not supported by your carrier where you others might be? I went and got a new SIM when I got mine so I don't know if that could be an issue or not.
2) I don't use many apps. I do use SBSH Weather v1.3.3 (regular icons) and it works well. No issues at all, updates just fine etc. I thought the VGA icons were for devices with a VGA screen (Universal for example). To the best of my knowledge the Wizzard, Tytn etc are not VGA devices so I don't think it helps to use the VGA icons, and who knows, maybe it could cause an issue on a non-VGA device. I have heard that SPB has issues. Slingplayer also works well for me, streaming video runs great.
3) I get ~3-4 days out of the battery if just used for calls, weather updates, and light browsing. Heavy UMTS browsing or streaming cuts that down significantly to 24-36 hours. I don't use push mail so don't know there, but there might be a config setting that is causing your device to get polled too frequently. I do know that one time I went into the phone menu and Band page to set Band to UMTS only. I forgot I did that, left a UMTS area and the phone went into constant network search mode instead of switching to GSM. That drained my battery in something less than 8 hrs.
4) I also don't have this problem. There are many reports of this problem though and the only fix I am aware of is a replacement.
Bottom line is I suspect you have a bad phone (reception and alignment issues) as well as setup issues or program conflicts causing your apps problems.
try to upgrade to the lastest rom!

I would love to take your money, but I think you should take it back and get something else. Maybe even a Treo. The reason I say this is because the TyTn is just not ready for Prime Time unless you are a power user or someone who doesn't feel the need to complain because it doesn't work properly. Power user go around these issues and figure out the problems.
This is no way an insult to you, it's just that if you can't deal with the problems, and you need to rely on a phone/pda, and email is very important to you maybe even go as low as to get a blackberry. In the meantime I personally would keep the TyTn and explore it and fully understand how it works. When you are ready to dive in and start using it as a "power user" then you will no longer need to worry about it's faults.
This is coming from 2 years of experience with the O2 Xda IIs. Which was the buggiest pocketpc phone that ever came out and today is one of the top, mainly due to the fact that once the ROM is hacked the development efforts go up considerably and you see increased productivity and usability.
But if you need the money, just get a refund.
Sorry about my blunt response, but I had a friend who I converted from a palm to a Blue Angel. He didn't like it so I got him into a wizard. He curse at it for a while, then he started loving it after a few weeks of using it. Now he would never go back to a Palm or a Treo or anything else. I got my TyTn only last week and have cursed it to hell and back several thousand times. But this is just the way it goes when you're one of the early adopters. Especially when the phone is not commercially available to the US and Canada.
Time heals all.
Fully agree with you axiom, the most sincere response you could have given him.
I also come from the BlueAngel and was one of the early adopters, now running helmi's 1.32 rom, that's why I truely understand what you mean
Thanks pof for backing me up. I am also still using my BlueAngel with with the 1.32 rom but primarily in my car for navigation. This way I don't have to spend another few hundred dollars on a Nav system. And it really bothers me when tomtom loads faster on my BlueAngel then it does on my TyTn, but then I am hopeful that the TyTn will prevail when the time is write and all our heads are in the right place.
As always, everyone is welcome to post their problems, concerns, and findings and I am always pushing people to hang in there because "I know" there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Thanks for all the thoughtful replys - but....
Perhaps this is a device that is a little too early for me. But I will not return it. I love the speed of the Cingular 3G network. And I am blown away by how well Exchange/Outlook push works. I would never go back to a Treo or to a Blackberry.
I was rather hoping someone may have an idea about an improved ROM. I did have a direct conversation with HTCEurope's tech support office. They said they were well aware of the problems with applications, especially with the Audible player. They wistfully referred to the folks in Taiwan creating a new ROM - any month now.
I hoped that one of you might feel that a beta Cingular or other ROM might fix some or all of my problems. And I hope that someone could talk me through the installation. I hope that is true.
Many thanks.

Oh please don't install the cingular beta ROM. Infact, as much I enjoyed using it for testing purposes, the last thing you want to do is start pushing ROMs. I am also waiting for a newer ROM, I was one of the first along with pof and others who installed the cingular roms and found some harsh truths, and some benefits. However, I went back to the dopod rom, with a radio update from the cingular rom. And this was a journey in possibly bricking my unit because going back from the cingular to one of the other roms is a chance and you need your original rom to go back.
If you must pursue upgrading your ROM, please keep a few things in mind:
1) And very important: If you don't know what you're doing, you could brick your unit.
2) A rom upgrade is only as good as the comments it has received from the users on this forum.
3) Most users who use the newest roms are, in most cases, advanced and understand that there will be problems.
4) Once you have started to upgrade your rom, you will be doing it all the time and be ready to reinstall your apps and settings.
If this is all ok to you and you have a back up phone, that you can use while you play with your TyTn, then go ahead and try the Dopod, Imate or TyTn rom. Look through the wiki and you will find all the information you need.
READ EVERYTHING FIRST, THEN START YOUR JOURNEY. The worst thing is having someone tell you "Do a search", or "RTFM", or "Read the wiki". People will respect you more and will be willing to help you more if your questions legit and the wiki can't help you out.
To start you off, I would suggest the Dopod ROM, with radio 1.16. This should take you about 1 hour to update. Then if you're not satisfied with this, then go to the TyTn or the IMate.
I hope this helps, and I have never seen anyone ask for money on here to help our fellow users and if they have, then shame on them. We are all here to learn and teach, this is what makes us a community of excellence.
I hope this helps you and many others on this board. Until the next rom, or hopefully the successful hack of the TyTn rom... Long live xda-developers!

As far as the screen alignment issue goes i am shortly sending my TyTN to HTC (in the UK) to get fixed under warranty (ie free)....the guy on the helpline was REALLY helpfull in sorting it out...they estimate a 5 day turnaround for it which is just SWEEEEET......shall be back to my P900 for a few days URGH!
So afaik the screen alignment can be sorted with an under warranty repair

Dear Prof, Asukal and especially Axiom:
I want to thank you for your responses. I took the plunge last night and upgraded the phone radio ROM to the Cingular 1.16 version using the instructions and files from Asukal.
There were moments of sheer terror. The ROM upload to the phone took hours. In fact, I went to sleep and let it continue through the night. But when I woke up, there was the predicted error message on the TyTN. Just as instructed, after a reset, everything worked perfectly. I will write this up more thoroughly in a day or two after I have a chance to really test the radio.
But thanks for giving me the courage to try the upgrade. I am also including a snippet from a message I received from HTC Support about the next ROM:
"There are no ROM updates available for the TyTN at present, although are actively working one to address various issue customers are experiencing.
We are expecting this to coincide with the Windows Mobile 5 AKU3 update."

ROM is version 1.18.255.3
Date:7/22/06
Radio: 1.16.00.00 (hurray)
Protocol: 32.53.7018H
ExROM: 1.18.255.106
I will give a full report on the radio tomorrow - not enough experience with it yet - and some very minor anomalies after the upgrade.
If you're experiencing shortened battery life, try changing the push email settings (active sync for the mail server) -- if you set it to other than "as they arrive" to an hour or so, for off-peak, it will really reduce the battery drain. Same with the settings for an POP3 email mailboxes -- change the polling interval to a longer duration. I've found that to be one of the biggest battery drains on my TyTN.
I've had a TyTN for more than 2 months and absolutely love it. Sold my k-jam (wizard) because I want the 3G if Cingular USA ever gets it working in my area. I've found the TyTN faster even on the EDGE network locally and better overall than my k-jam -- seems like the issues with the wizard have been largely addressed. Mind you I've never had the screen alignment problem so I can sympathize with those who do. I did switch my HTC ROM to the Imate ROM and I feel like the stability is better.
Slightly better

I think the Cingular 1.16 Radio ROM is just a bit better than the TyTN ROM that was native to my device. It seems very clear and it MAY hold the signal a bit better. My house is in a marginal area, switching constantly between GPRS and UMTS. That may make things difficult. My reception at home is clearer but about the same as my old Treo 650 in terms of maintaining a connection. The 8125 I had on trial from Cingular for a few weeks was better - but of course it had no UMTS.
Might be interesting for someone to do a hack which grabs GPRS during phone conversations in marginal areas and prevents going to UMTS during the call. ?????
I downloaded the fix4cat TyTN tweaker and set audio to "excellent." Not sure what that does, but excellent sounds good. I also enabled HSPDA, but that seems to do nothing.
Anyway I am happy.
The audible player still does not work worth beans (boohoo - their tech support is NO HELP AT ALL) and I had a really terrible experience with Chapura Pocket Mirror which I used successfully on the Treo for years. I need to synchronize public folders on my Exchange server. Any ideas? Chapura is brain dead, temporarily broke my device and made me spend hours recovering my programs and settings.
Finally - anyone ever able to get into a Cisco firewall and look at files on the company server with the VPN software in WM5??? I have tried using PPTP – no luck.
And really finally, thanks to everyone who helped. (Battery life better with push email off and TyTN magically stopped alignment drift completely and I am no longer a ROM virgin).

Just bought Star Trek couple question

Okay so I recently purchased an i-mate Spartphone I have a couple of questions that I couldn't find thru the search feature.
1st I was wondering is the phone I have a Qtek 8500 (I think thats what I read on here) it only says imate on the outside and smartflip below the inner screen and say's imate on loading.
2nd when I use the camera all I see is static no picture... is there a way to fix this or should I load a different rom? I am thinking of running the rose or neo rom anyways (I have to get on my home computer and do the unlocks first I believe)
3rd I am also new to Winmo phones so I was wondering if there was any nice apps that anyone could point me towards.
Thanks in advance

The phone is made by HTC but is also sold as other names such as i-mate smartflip.
I have an i-mate smart flip that I purchased on e-bay and was able to use the camera just fine with the original WM5 ROM. Though I must admit that after upgrading the ROM to Erofoch's Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional for HTC StarTrek the camera works even better with the camera night mode option.
This version of WM6 works amazing on this phone, it also has BatteryStatus set up with safe and quick overclocking.
It took me a while to figure out all the steps, there is so much great information in this forum that it can be a bit overwhelming. I was directed to this wiki web page which outlines the ROM upgrade process step by step. http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index...Trk_ROM_Update
For the Mobile 6.1 Pro ROM that I installed I only had to stop at step 2 because this ROM does the rest.
I hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Rudydb.
Okay I installed the Rose Rom by pampooh??(probably mispelled hope does not offend) anyways still just static on the camera not a huge deal for me I have a different camera phone for that purpose just was hoping it would fix it may be that I just got one with a bad camera but oh well
Yep, sounds like a bad camera. In general, when there is a driver issue, you will either get an error message when you launch the camera, or else a blank screen, but definitely not static.
iMate, Startrek, 3185, and a few other names are all the same phone. HTC sells the phone to Cellular carriers, and they can name it whatever they want. With the phone nerds here at XDA, the easiest way to refer to it is as "StarTrek", since this was the HTC code name for the phone. All the phones are basically alike, except for the Cingular/AT&T 3185, which has a larger battery, and twice the ROM (64MB instead of 32MB). You can buy the extended battery and associated back plate on eBay if you want it. All the versions of the phone run the same software and operating systems.
Software:
Tons of good software out there. What you will like is a matter of opinion. I can't live without:
1. Microsoft Voice Command 1.6 - Gives you text to speech, and awesome voice recognition.
2. Coreplayer - An actual working media player for the phone (not crappy like WMP).
3. Replacement calandar/tasks program - Tons out there, but I don't like the MS one.
4. Games - Again, find ones you like.

I trying to upgrade the ROM on the HTC India as well as UK site but keeps telling me the s/n number does not permit this upgrade!
Totally confused and don't have a techie mind here to apply ..so ne step by step help would be gr8.
Also read a few posts of people upgrading the HD2 to Android... Any specific benefits in doing so ? My battery life, call drops (no network) are quiet a pain with the above versions that I am using...
Cheers and thanks again to all for your help... please keep writing in with your suggestions / feedbacks..

Hi all,
Merry Christmas to all on this wonderful site
I have been using the HD2 from the last 5-6mts. However, recently noticed that the problem with not getting enough network on my cell phone, calls dropping, sms giving a problem. If I get the phone inside my apartment, get very less network, unlike other handsets where using the same SIM, I get excellent reception! I don't know if any upgrade is required or not.. below are the phone details.. I really don't want to give up on this beauty, I love it except for this...

Your Phone is Vodafone HD2 Sir
Go to here and download with your S/N
the new LEO-S Vodafone UK 3.14 Stock ROM
see you, in Artemis ROM thread...
hi there..
Thanks for being the 1st to reply spot on...I have a few questions though (pardon my ignorance on this and please be patient)
- The version i currently have is 1.66 whereas on the link which is for Vodaphone it is 3.14... is it ok to str8 jump to this version or are there any other versions I need to first update and then go to the latest one ? BTW I use a separate service provider in India (and not vodafone).
- I have Microsoft My Phone on the phone which I have loaded all the contacts/sms etc on. After the download is over, am assuming I will have to reload all the contacts/sms again ?
- I am downloading the ROM upgrade file on the desktop (use Vista) without attaching the phone with the USB cable. Am assuming to run the .exe file I will need to attach the phone to laptop and then run the file ?
- Will the Radio versions get upgraded too ? As I think the calls dropping due to network issues is to do with the Radio versions...
Kindly revert when convenient, the download is ongoing on my laptop as I write this message...
Cheers and thank you again for your help.
Greetings from India
to each question above.

no, you can't change radio on 3.14 roms because there is no hspl for it yet.
hi there,
Thanks for your kind revert.
Does that mean the call dropping thing will not improve with the new ROM... the Radio version shows 15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14 where as the version I am on is 2.06.51.07. Hope this Radio upgrade along with the ROM upgrade helps cause the call drops are quiet unprofessional especially when someone calls from work... and I don't seem to face this problem on other handsets which are less than a fraction of a cost to the HD2...
yea going from 2.06.51 to 2.15.50 should certainly see improvement.
Hi samsamuel,
i have bad news for you. After two or three months of use, my HD2 started to drop Data, SMS couldn't be delievered sucessfully and I wasn't able to do any phone calls in certain areas. I send it for rma an got an new one after 3 weeks.
hope this helps
Hi there,
I just did a ROM upgrade... Thank you all in here...
Some more questions on it...
- I get the vodafone logo on the start up... hope that shouldnt create a problem with settings with my own service provider as I do not use vodafone...
- While sending SMS, it quickly shows sending failed. After a 2nd retry, the message goes thru successfully... ne reason why ?
- My WAP/GPRS settings are obviously gone and my service provider will call 2mrw to load it back again...only then will i be able to sync by address book from Microsoft My Phone
Kindly advise/comment on the above when you guys can...
Thanks again for your help.
Cheers!

lol, not bad news for me, i hate the 2.15.50 radio, its rubbish. i was being general, and the Op should see an improvement by moving up a few radio versions.

thats the 'splashscreen', its just a picture, you can change it just like flashing roms.

shouldnt need to wait for them to do anything
settings - menu - all settings - connections - connection setup.
Im surprised it didn't run automatically when the phone restarted.
hi Samsamuel,
Thanks, as always for your help.
- How does one change that vodafone logo showing up on start up or on shutdown ?
- I too was surprised as to how the wap/gprs settings didnt come on automatically... finally after around 14hrs of logging a complaint, waiting for 2hrs on the phone (literally over several calls) and visiting the service providers store, the WAP/GPRS settings were provided and I could get my contact list reloaded again...Now you know the level of service that we get.
- Any other recommendations on any applications / upgrades on the phone would be appreciated...Do you recommend I change the radio version as the current one that i have with this upgrade is 2.15 and didn't notice much difference in the connectivity area (which is my main problem really) though have used it only for a day as yet.
Cheers!
see the 'splashscreen watermark' link in my sig for the technicals of flashing splashscreens.
for recommendations, i rarely offer recommendations, except cookies home tab
i didnt like 2.15 radio, but its very VERY much trial and error, , no two people agree on radio performance. for me 2.10.50 and 2.11.50 work best.
