I have an SX56 from Siemens, and have downloaded the special developers edition ROM. I am wanting to upgrade my phone, but am a little nervous about not being able to use AT&T after the upgrade. Is there anything special that I need to do prior to upgrading the xDA (like writing down settings)?
Eventually I think I may want to switch to T-Mobile...
I suggest you visit the "SX56 GPRS Online Setup Guide", anyhow its always a good idea to note your settings before doing any type of upgrade.
SX56 GPRS Online Setup Guide http://support.attwireless.com/awswls/support/devices/siemens/sx56/setup_guides/ppc2002.jsp
Also its a good idea to do a hard reset before you upgrade and "not" to do
a restore from backup after your done (do a fresh / reinstall all of your programs).

I would also advise a backup of your existing rom to sd card before flashing a new rom.

The T-Mobile service works great in Vegas & Henderson!
Whereabouts in Henderson do you live (Green Valley, the Downtown Henderson area etc..)?
Henderson
Actually I live in Green Valley not too far from GVP and Sunset... I'm gonna go home tonight and try flashing the phone... although I realized I don't have access to a Unix machine... Guess I'll need to have one of my Unix Admin buddies compile this for me! Unless there's an image already out there?

I had the same problem with the 8525 using the stock ATT ROM and MMS. The only way i could make it work was to use a cooked rom(which you will like better anyways IMO). Make sure if you flash ur phone to use HardSPL to keep from bricking ur phone.
Here is a link to a good howto for flashing: http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/
Also if your going to flash it then you will need the keyboard layout fix here
We've already got HSDPA, thankyouverymuch ;-)
What ROM are you running on the 8525? Have you upgraded it to WM6 or is still running the pre-installed cingular WM5 one?
Smiffy.

umm and just forget the fact that it has 200mhz...vs. a 8525 a 400mhz...not the smartest comment lol
I have no idea. I am still trying to learn how to access all the features.
I had Nokia 9500 before that and this phone is slightly different.
WM and ROM info should appear when i am restarting the device?
I am pretty sure i had WM5,but i am not sure....
Just go into Start --> Settings --> System --> About and that will tell you what OS it is running
Oh..Thank you
It says:
ROM Version - 2.15.502.3
ROM Date - 04/09/2007
Radio Version -1.16.00.00

Greetings all,
As I have the VZW unit and no official release for rollback to 2.09/1.30.60 is on the utstar.com page, I was wondering about just backing up what I have in my unit now before taking the plunge, or a new unit out of box from the store ? Blazingwolf stated in a post somewhere recently that the stock ROM images floating around here are from dumped units, and this makes sense because there has not been any upgrade issued since they came out. Sprint has it available only because of the 2.17 debockle. So, it seems to me that the best way for one to be sure they can roll back to their stock config is to dump their own ROM before they start. Anyone have such utility ?????? Thanks.
Search the forums next time before posting....

It's a complete Ship ROM for the XV6800 which means you can "rollback" if things go wrong with custom ROM's.

See the point of what I would like to be able to do is to extract the ENTIRE memory map of my device so that when I am done playing I can just dump my stock, but configured with all my software and voice and all stuff I put in it, back in it. This would be cool would it not ???? Sort of 'have your cake and eat it too' because you can play then put it exactly back ;-)

Hello
First of all sorry for my bad English.
What are the differences between radios?
5005.1700.05
5005.1600.05
5001.0300.76
Lately I've used the 5005.1600.05 and sometimes they said that they heard me wrong.
Now I want to change and do not know which to use, or 5001.0300.76 5005.1700.05
Any help?
Thanks
You forgot the Radio 5001.1800.26
I've tried all the radios of all of Rome and came to the conclusion that the version is 1800 for myself the best.
I can give only all radios guess yourself test to determine what is best for you, for your home and your provider have an influence on the radio.

That's right, for me too the 5001.1800.26 Radio is the most stable and the call quality is also the best.
I've tried all of them.... and this is the best!
I used to have the original radio included in the uk latest orange rom and think that that one is crap. Lots of noise on the line and the GPS dropouts were just ridiculous. I have now installed the 1600 with the TG Tool by combining it with the latest WM6.5 orange release and I can vouch for that one. At least with my unit and in the UK I have had no GPS dropouts anymore and the call quality is very good.

Hi guys,
I'm sorry I'm asking this, but maybe it's not explained coz everyone already knows...
Is there a way to flash a radio to the tg01 without flashing a rom? If so, where can I find the radios? It was usual (and well explained) for HTC Blackstone, but can't find anything similar here to tg01...
Thanks!
There is no way that I know to flash just the radio on the TG01 like it is done on the Blackstone. However there is a method that you can combine the radio of one rom to the rom of a different rom and flash the entire rom. This is it:
download cedemish´s TGTOOL http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=300180&d=1269768423 and install .NET 3.5 framework from www.microsoft.com
ROM with RADIO you want, rename it to tg01.tsw
Rom you want to CHANGE radio, rename it to tg01ori.tsw
then,use cmd follow these codes:
Code:
tgtool -sp tg01ori.tsw original.os.payload
this command will split out OS from original ROM named as original.os.payload
then,
Code:
tgtool -mp original.os.payload tg01.tsw TG01WP_00.tsw
this command combined original OS and new new radio to a NEW ROM
This was not posted by me initialy so credits go to the person that posted this.

there are no radios on their own because they can't be flashed on their own. Can people not read the instructions properly? Get the 2 roms you want. COMPLETE ROMS! Then use the instructions to extract the radio you want from a rom that has that radio and combine it with the main rom you want from another rom which you want but has a radio that you don't want. Does this make any sense? If it doesn't give up and stick with what you got.

if you think of the complete flash in terms of a complete system
then the complete system is made up of a Operating System & a RADIO
they are seperate entities (seperate items) but they cannot be separated independantly of one another
kinda like 2 sides to the same coin (heads & tails)
but as described in this topic, you can seperate any radio from any rom - but you must do this on your PC & then combine the OS with the RADIO you want & re-flash.
If you already have the phone as you want (apps settings etc) but want to change the radio, then take a full back up of the phone (which in essence is only a back up of the OS), create the ROM you want to flash then restore from the back up
end to end process will be about 45mins - not as quick as being able to extract just RADIO (like HTC), but pretty quick & easy nevertheless...
Cheers

Anyone happen to know, or even a guess why telus would remove the GB update from their site. I've read about people have various problems with the updating, but from what I read, those problems were PC related.
Mine worked just fine.
I also have a question... is it possible to dump a stock rom and/or radio and/or kernel without having root?
Thx

Can anyone confirm if this is true?
That is sort of strange. Im glad I was able to get it in time. And rooted too
People were losing SD cards on telus also.

Can anyone tell me how I can rip the rom, cause I've tried the method found on these forums for the fascinate for froyo, but when I tried to odin it back it didn't work.
So right now I'm almost afraid to shut the phone off just in case I can't boot and I have no way to get it back to stock GB.
Mainly what I want to do is make a factory image that I can put somewhere for others to download it. Cause I want to try some things but I can't until telus puts the update up again.

I think Telus was getting all kinds of questions on when it would be available when they had no control over it - so they made a generic upgrade page.
I just tried with Kies and I got GingerBread BUT I'm also staring a long time at a galaxy S screen - lost my clockwork mod recovery as well (back to stock 3E).
Hmmmm - anyone know if this update is still available online somewhere as I have no OTA to get it and of course as the thread says... TELUS has pulled it.

I'm pretty sure to upgrade through the Samsung Kies software, you will have to remove any mods / hacks that you made to your phone.
Best option probably is to flash everything back to Stock, which I did. Then had no problem updating via Kies:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=923712
Alright I'll give that a shot tonight, the only 'mod' I have done would be rooting the phone - other than that it is stock at this time.
I guess the one thing I really shouldve mentioned in my first reply is I have the Fascinate 4G with TELUS, is the update specific to the 3G+?

Oh wait! If you have the Fascinate 4G+ (T959P) then you may not want to flash everything back to 2.2.
I'm not 100% sure that it may work with 4G Fascinate.
Can anyone validate the following steps will work on his Fascinate 4G+ ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=923712
They are different phones. If you could get the 3G+ file to flash at all (which I doubt), it would almost certainly semi brick the phone. There is an update section on telus website for fascinate 4G (just below the 3G+ entry) (no update available today). When you see the update available there, you're good to go.
I have the 4g and I won't flash anything made for the 3g. Two different phones. I remember reading a thread about people bricking the 4g while trying to put 3g stuff on it.

Dev will be slow at first so if this is a first android for anyone, be patient and help however you can. We don't have a device so no CWM or custom kernels yet. Once we do things will start rolling.

This isn't development - when a dump actually takes place, a thread can be placed in Development, not before.

Don't post system dumps from other carriers/countries in AT&T Note forum. Despite what you think - it's not the same. It may have the same hardware, but software wise those are very different firmwares and attempting to flash cooked roms from another carrier "will* cause problems.
- Telus version has worknig NFC, AT&T Note has it disabled in the firmware
- LTE has 16 bands and the ones, used and enabled from Telus are not the same as the AT&T version
- AT&T Note has embedded software configuration settings for voice GSM, data HSPA+, LTE networks, voicemail, etc'. All those are very different from Telus and there is no telling how easy it'd be to manually restore all those AT&T settings to assure fully functional operation of all radios
- AT&T Note has a lot of bloatware, Telus has less and different stuff
- Each carriers has customized their firmware according to their security needs. Protection may not be the same, and bootloader & radios firmwares may not be the same on AT&T and Telus.
List goes on. It's a bad idea to post here system dump from another carrier & country.
That doesn't mean the Telus dump won't be useful, and despite the AT&T in the title of the forum, this is also the forum for his device (forum name should really be I717, imo). Go ahead and post the dump if you can; just make sure it's clear that it's a Telus and not an AT&T dump.

Well not really. The system dump will definitely help with development of the ATT Note. Im was running Rogers based roms on both of my skyrockets. No ATT bloat and NFC enabled. Having the system dump will help devs build a compatible rom for the ATT note as well. And pretty much everything you listed as being different was built into the roms I had on both skyrockets. Only thing that had to be done was APN settings
