Greetings all,
As I have the VZW unit and no official release for rollback to 2.09/1.30.60 is on the utstar.com page, I was wondering about just backing up what I have in my unit now before taking the plunge, or a new unit out of box from the store ? Blazingwolf stated in a post somewhere recently that the stock ROM images floating around here are from dumped units, and this makes sense because there has not been any upgrade issued since they came out. Sprint has it available only because of the 2.17 debockle. So, it seems to me that the best way for one to be sure they can roll back to their stock config is to dump their own ROM before they start. Anyone have such utility ?????? Thanks.
Search the forums next time before posting....

It's a complete Ship ROM for the XV6800 which means you can "rollback" if things go wrong with custom ROM's.
True, found and have them,,,,but,,,,

See the point of what I would like to be able to do is to extract the ENTIRE memory map of my device so that when I am done playing I can just dump my stock, but configured with all my software and voice and all stuff I put in it, back in it. This would be cool would it not ???? Sort of 'have your cake and eat it too' because you can play then put it exactly back ;-)

I have an SX56 from Siemens, and have downloaded the special developers edition ROM. I am wanting to upgrade my phone, but am a little nervous about not being able to use AT&T after the upgrade. Is there anything special that I need to do prior to upgrading the xDA (like writing down settings)?
Eventually I think I may want to switch to T-Mobile...
I suggest you visit the "SX56 GPRS Online Setup Guide", anyhow its always a good idea to note your settings before doing any type of upgrade.
SX56 GPRS Online Setup Guide http://support.attwireless.com/awswls/support/devices/siemens/sx56/setup_guides/ppc2002.jsp
Also its a good idea to do a hard reset before you upgrade and "not" to do
a restore from backup after your done (do a fresh / reinstall all of your programs).
HTH
I would also advise a backup of your existing rom to sd card before flashing a new rom.

How have you found the T-Mobile service to work in Vegas? I have found MANY holes with the AT&T service that result in dropped calls...

The T-Mobile service works great in Vegas & Henderson!
Whereabouts in Henderson do you live (Green Valley, the Downtown Henderson area etc..)?
Henderson
Actually I live in Green Valley not too far from GVP and Sunset... I'm gonna go home tonight and try flashing the phone... although I realized I don't have access to a Unix machine... Guess I'll need to have one of my Unix Admin buddies compile this for me! Unless there's an image already out there?

What method are you planing on using to flash with?
Also no need for a Unix machine you download it from:

Phone ROM
Actually I am not sure what version it was... I was running the A.020.xx firmware upgrade... I was able to successfully install the developers ROM, unlock my phone and now have switched completely to T-Mobile..
Now I got a new version of firmware from T-Mobile's website... I attempted to upgrade my phone to that, but had some problems.. What version of firmware are you running?
Radio Stack
Actually I just looked, and my radio stack is A.20.10...

To install that T-Mobile update you'll have to run adaptROM first.
For AdaptROM do a search on the subject in this forum>

can someone point me to the thread, if there is one that would have a step by step explanation of whats needed, or what do do to upgrade the verizon 6800, im pretty technically competent, but this is the first time playing around with a smartphone. list of files, and what other things are needed and what exactly to do with them...
Thanks
I was just thinking the same thing, with the un-locker, and seperate radios needed, I'm just hoping I can find a contiguous thread that I can start with.
I know the feeling. I remember the first time I did a flash on my phone. It was the Apache. After a few tries you will be a pro.
I think the following thread is the best you will see. Has links to the unlocker, the radio and a rom.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=362563
Next is the current ROM I am using. GPS works awesome with it. Its also preloaded with all the apps I need.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=17535
i read a few things about making sure you have the right, new versions of all the stuff...if i have things right, for a verizon phone, is there a quick step by step checklist of what to do in what order? was there a specific post on that thread u were pointing us too? or do i need to read through all 13 pages?
thanks for your help

thanks alot...just to clarify, code means the radio? so if im using radio 3.27, relocking isnt an issue? im going from the verizon rom it comes with, if you post again, also, is there one place that has links to all this software?

I have included links to all the software. For the roms, I have included a link to DCDs rom.
Let me know how it goes.
Have fun!!
i have verizon xv6800 with Verizon
ROM version 2.09.605.8
radio 1.30.60
I used Outlook and mail connect to exchange server, Word and Excel
What would be the best ROM. Radio, etc. to get GPS working but still have all the above working when its done.
tools to backup everything would be great too --- its a company phone.
favorite software so far PointUI- http://www.pointui.com/Home.aspx
3.2.2 and radio 3.42.30 will do it.
Though I'd wait just a little bit longer, new rom coming soon.
if you decide to flash now, you might want to read my tutorial (link is in my signature)
For backup, I've always used either Resco Backup or Spb Backup and then save it to storage card, and restore when the flash is done.

afaik this should be one of the 1.76 roms. you can find them in the development thread.
Here you can find old update.zip for your HTC HERO
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...oms-radios-in-update-zip-format-for-gsm-hero/
Yeah, omokas' link gives you the correct files.
You do realise that this is a step backwards, and that it probably isn't worth downgrading just for a flipping clock. The inherent lag that got worked out the old firmwares would probably get annoying.
(Though I realise you probably need the ROM for some other reason. Oh, and remember that those ROMs aren't rooted, although I think it's trivial to do using a little tool like one click root or equivalent.)
My Hero is not rooted, can i downgrade it?

I really want to downgrade only for flip clock, because i love it and after a search i haven't found a modded flip clock with flip working to apply on new roms

you need to create a goldcard to downgrade.
don't say afterwards you hadn't been warned: during this process you *can* brick your phone, you will need to read and learn a lot, it is a PITA. once you're done you have a flipping clock, but the rest of the apps on your phone will be slow and lagging. you won't be satisfied, and you will most certainly say that all this is not worth having a flip clock.
i wish you good luck downgrading, luckily my phone came with a 1.76 rom so i never had to go through the process...
Kendong2, I agree. Its a path that couls lead to misery.
On the other hand, this should go down as love story where an eliment of Hero becomes like lethal attraction. Nowt wrong with that.

Thanks, after this... i can live without flip clock.
I hope however that some developer try to port old and working flip clock to newer builds equipped phones.
But... if i root my device and flash an older rom zip file? Is it dangerous too?

it is basically the same process, but in this case it is worth the effort
you can also try the flashrec method, it was updated these days so it might work with newer roms now. you gotta check that, i have never used flashrec either, but from what i read it is WAY easier than the goldcard.
edit: once you have the custom recovery you can try an update.zip from an older rom, then you can see what you have to dismiss for a flipping clock... roms are in the stickies, to answer the thread title

Only problem is that i'd like to have root permission but on that link there are only newer rom rooted. What can i do?

There is a nandroid backup available someone in the forum.
But you need to search for it.
Also, without the stock recovery - you can not get OTA.
If you have searched the forum a bit - you might have already discovered there is no RUU available for hboot 1.40.
There is a ruu for 1.17.401.3.

I was in the same situation but the only difference is that this guy that has the file is living 30km from me. For some people is not an option because they live too far away.
Me myself I understand why his not giving the file: he has a job! and a family to take care of. If sharing something would put his job in danger, than in his situation I would do the same and you also too!
My bad because I wrote in here from the first place.

And for those that they really needing it, why you don't find a stock system backup and restore it in your phone. I've done the same with 4.2.2.
