Hi all,
Perhaps someone can help me...
So it's a rainy Friday night in Sydney, and I'm getting out of a taxi when my XDA unclips from my belt, bounces off my knee and flings itself into a flooded gutter. I suspect it's a backlash against the selection of MP3s I keep stored on the SD Card, but anyway..
The XDA spends about four seconds submerged in a mild torrent, but I spend the next fourteen hours in a mild panic, wondering if I've lost Xavier* to the perils of electrolysis.
Eventually, it comes back online... touchscreen works, buttons do their thing, phone is functional... BUT... there's an inconsistency with the speaker. Surprise, surprise, water will do that to technology.
Windows no longer emits sound through the inbuilt speaker. The handsfree will, but the speaker won't. It's quite confusing. Plus, the volume slider in Windows Media Player don't "snap-to" particular points along the volume bar like it used to.
HOWEVER
In the Wallaby Bootloader (and it pains me to say "Wallaby" because Australia lost the Rugby World Cup tonight... if you don't get it, don't worry...), all the diagnostics check out. INCLUDING the playback test. Audio plays from the speaker with no trouble at all. The recording also works and plays through the inbuilt speaker, and the GSM Audio test works as well as ever.
Needless to say, I'm quite confused. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
DMcG
*Yes, I named my phone Xavier. Anything that spends that much time near my groin may as well have a name.
if the diags and hands free work, i dont think its a hardware issue!
i sounds more like a software/controls issue.
have u tried a hard reset? (make sure u've backed up everythin at first)
Oh, yes. Yes, yes, yes.
Soft Reset
Hard Reset
Reflash ROM
Nope, nada, zilch - in that order.

Did you try to copy a MP3 file directly to the Xavier's RAM, pun definitely intended and then play it from there without using the SD card at all, unless you indeed did that as well :-( in that case I'm out of suggestions ... at least as far the Xavier goes
Just tried it. A great big audio-void.
There's no sound at all when Xavier's running Windows UNLESS the handsfree is attached. No screen taps, no phone, no MP3.
BUT
The Audio diagnostics in WBL do work. Still.
It's so strange.
I tried installing PHM Device Manager to see if gave any more information, but I don't think it did. Under "Audio Devices", I have:
Audio Compression Codecs
| |
| gsm610.acm (ACM3
|
Wave API Manager (WAM1
|
Wave Audio Device (WAV1
Any other ideas? I'm going nutty here.
Thanks for everyone's help so far
try re-flashing it then.
if all fails.. return to costumer service!
like your XDA my speaker stopped working, but also still worked in the bootloader, in the end i found out it was something to do with the handsfree socket hole thinking the headfree was plugged it.
I suggest you give the handsfree hole a clean with a cotton swab or something.
I was going to suggest the same thing, however that would mean that the bootloader is able to bypass a hardware switch "headset", or is it not a hardware switch, maybe just a sensor that the bootloader tests do not look for and is therefore able to output audio to speaker, still sounds weird to me.

Hello! New guy here and in searching the web for some answers, I found this site and it looks like a good place to ask some questions
I'm wondering if anybody else finds the speakerphone to be unacceptable? Forget about using it an a car... especially one with an aftermarket exhaust And, even in a fairly quiet room you still have to have it fairly close to you to be able to hear it even with the volume all the way up. At first I thought it was a defective unit and so did the people at the Alltel store (new phone and they are not familiar with it) so they swapped it out for a new one. Got the SAME results and even the guy at Alltel was very disappointed with the quality of the speakerphone. I ended up calling Alltel and asking one of their people about it and they went and got a Touch Pro, tried it, and was like "Wow, that does suck!". LOL!
So, I'm not seeing very much here about how the speakerphone is basically unusable so am wondering if it possible that I got two bad phones in a row and the Altell tech guys have a bad one too?
While this isn't a dealbreaker for me, I do like to use it every so often and can't believe such an expensive phone has such a poor speakerphone!
If this is "just the way it is" is there anyway you smart guys on here which do the hacking can boost up the volume a little???
Thanks for any info or at least re-inforcement that the speakerphone is really "no good". If you all say it works fine then maybe I did just get two defective ones in a row. Thanks!
for a phone that costs as much as it costs HTC Should have put more effort into R&D of this phone..
I'm setting up a Class-Action website soon if HTC dont recall all there HTC Touch Pro's and fix (Put) High Performance Speakers in for the Speaker phone Speaker and of the Speaker when put to ear.
the way i see it is This phone is not even worth 100.00
I can pick up a 25.00 phone and the speakers are way better
I too have the one from Alltel. The speakerphone is weak; however, I don't use it much. When speakerphone is turned off, it is OK.
What I do use is a Motorola H500 and that is very weak as well. Not sure why.
Yeah, this is very disappointing. I thought I could "live" with a poor speakerphone because like cagarn, I don't use it often. It is more the point of it though... it is an expensive phone and if I WANT to use the speakerphone I WANT it to work!
Now, I'm having another problem... the GPS doesn't work worth a crap. I downloaded Google Maps and it was always stuck looking for satellites. Would always show 0 (zero). Thought maybe there was a problem with Alltel "messing" with something so programs like this wouldn't work and you'd be forced to spend $9.99 a month on Alltel's GPS service so, for troubleshooting purposes, I activated Alltel's service and it said "weak signal". Went out to the middle of a large yard and after trying a few times got the Alltel service to lock on and display my location. I then closed out that program and opened Google Maps and DID get it to work too. Since then though, I've not been able to get it to work even in the middle of a large parking lot and not even being in my car??? I went to the local Alltel to swap out the phone again because it seems like the GPS is defective but there were out of the phone. The lady had a personal use HTC Diamond so we tried Google Maps on her phone in the middle of the parking lot and it wouldn't find any satellites either??? What's going on with this? Going to look through the forums here and see if this too is a problem with this phone. Sigh. If this is just the way the GPS is, what the heck is the point of a GPS receiver that is so weak it can't be used in a car and only sometimes in the middle of a large field??? It is getting to the point were, even though I really like the phone and the killer resolution of the screen, I'm about ready to just go back to my trusty Treo 700wx!
I'm running google maps and had no issues. What signal are getting? EV, 1X, rA...?

I normally have EV but sometimes 1X. But, the problem isn't with the data part... the problem is it won't acquire any satellites.
I did notice something weird though... I ran a GPS Test program and it showed the GPS working then opened Googlemaps and it worked then too??? Since then I've been experimenting and the phone will sometimes get 12 satellites and other times I can't get it to connect to any and this is even standing still outside in good weather! I'm also having an issue with the signal (regular phone signal) varying greatly on the phone from no bars to maybe three bars while the phone is staying the same place. It was doing this at the Alltel store and all the other phones in there had a steady strong signal. They are going to replace the phone because of the GPS and weird signal issues. Hopefully this one will work
Oh, and there is a user on another board named badboy8813 who has developed a cab file which increases the volume of the phone. I have tried a "half" boost fix and now going to try the full boost fix and see if that makes it any better. The half one worked pretty good but I'd rather have it real loud and turn it down if needed
Are you talking about this?

This is the actual thread I got it from.
http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=41385
I have tried both versions and both do what they say. The full boost version is NICE and LOUD Speakerphone still sucks though. It just isn't a good speakerphone speaker and I'm afraid nothing short of replacing the speaker will "really" fix this problem. The above definitely helps but it is very unfortunate such a nice and expensive phone uses such a cheap and crappy speakerphone speaker. My cheap old and free Motorola T262 speakerphone blows this thing out of the water
Yup i just spent 600+ on this phone with alltel because I'm still in contract, and the main issue i'm having is the crappy speaker phone as well.
oh and yea i had to use the volume boost which is pretty cool to bring the volume up as well but it only affected the regular volume, not the speakerphone, not that i noticed.
WOW, here is the reply i got from HTC
Hello David,
Thank you for your inquiry about the volume of the speakerphone on your Touch Pro.
We understand that it is important you receive all the information to best utilize your device. First I would suggest that you turn up both your System and your Ring volumes. Once you do this and are on a call with someone, it is suggested to speak and listen from the back of your phone. When the device goes into speakerphone mode, it switches its main speaker to the back speaker. This should improve your devices sound quality when using speakerphone.
David, I hope we have answered your question in detail. Feel free to contact us again if you have any further questions.

Wow is right. Sad. HTC isn't too "up" on their different version phones from the different providers. I read parts of the HTC Touch Pro pdf on their website before I got mine from Alltel so was familiar with their "standard" phone. When I was having speakerphone problems I called HTC tech support. The guy insisted the speaker was on the BACK of the phone. I relied "yes, it is on the back of the phone in the pics listed on your website but on MY ALLTEL phone there are two slits in the top the sound comes out of. He tried to agrue with me a little until I said "Listen, I have no fancy pattern on the back of my phone and no little grille looking thing. If you take the cover off there is nothing for speaker sound to go through and only clear SOLID plastic for the camera and light and if I cover up the slits on the top with my finger the speakerphone volume basically goes away and gets very muffled... the sound comes out of the top of my phone for sure." He replied back with something like "Well, it is supposed to come out the back." To that I replied, "Thank you for your assistance. Good bye."
Yep, I got about as much help from them as you did. They HAVE to know this speakerphone is basically useless. Why are they trying to play it off like you're an idiot? The worst part is that I asked if there was a "fix" for this and they replied no fixes and none being planned. Lovely. Maybe I'll have to buy an old phone on eBay for about $2 and solder in one of the GOOD speakers in my "state of the art" phone. LOL!
well, would it be the speaker or maybe something with the configuration in the phone? I would think speaker as well but i'm not as familiar with the phone.

I don't know for sure but from what I've been reading it seems like the speaker is jus not that great.
I just downloaded and started playing with a program called Diamond Tweak which allows you to use the equalizer for everything (not just when headphones are plugged in)... plus it does a ton of other stuff. I'm thinking if I can get the EQ tweaked in for standard TALKING then that might fix a lot of the problems. Might want to check it out...

If you come up with an "ideal" setting, please do share!
That's just retarded.

Hi there, I newly joined the family of Athena this week.
After reading extensively about rom flashing ( I am an universal users for 3 yrs and have quite good experience with flashing rom), i decided to try my luck with my new Athena and upgraded it to WM6. Here I go.
Everything went as smooth as ever, nothing wrong. I have used it for a few days and enjoyed my new toys.
Yesterday, suddenly, I have lost all my system sound. I can't play video with sound, no more system beeps, no more speaker phone. But, the ringer is STILL there. When people calls me, I can still get the phone but I can't talk thru the speaker phone but i can do it thru handfree whatsoever.
I have tried to play a MP3 on the Athena. The media player prompted me that there is a "the specified module could not be found".
Please help me out here.... I would love to have my perfect athena back . Thanks alot.
have your tried doing a hard reset after the actual upgrade? and have you tried doing a hard reset now?
something like this happened to me when i still had the original rom installed. no sounds but whenever plugging in the headset i could take calls. all sounds were streamed to my bt headset whenever it was bonded. several hard resets did not solve the problem.
the solution was for me to upgrade to the then newly released ak3 rom. that's solved the problem but to this day i have yet to find what caused the problem. for you, you might try doing a hard reset. if that doesn't work, you may want to consider reflashing the rom you originally loaded.
hope that helps
Even after I have flashed the official WM6 rom, the problem still persists. Anybody out there can help me to get out of this unfortunate incident?
Thanks truly truly truly lots.
At last, after reading more articles on flasing and different roms, I fond that Radio Rom is in control of all those wireless "components" of my U1000. As I thought all the system sound have been incorrectly re-routed to the bluetooth (I dunno why but just a guess wild enough). I decided to take a adacious move, FLASH a NEW RADIO ROM!
I flashed Radio 1.8 into my U1000 and BANG!!! all sounds come back and everything is back to how good they used to be !!! HURRAH!!!
Thanks for everybody who has tried to help and hope this is a method to solve somebody's problem. Thanks again
hi all,
it's easy to solve, it is a hardware issue. same happened to me: the speaker jack gets so dirt that the athena thinks it has something plugged. that's why you only hear the incoming calls, because if you plug a headphone it still keeps theincoming calls ring.
you just have to clean it very carefully with a small wooden stick and blow into it to take the dirt out. be extremely careful!
I have tried that before. but to no avail. I am not quite sure if it is a HW problem or a SW one. AFter flashing it with Radio Rom 1.8.. it works perfectly but at the end I dunno why that symptom starts again.
Is it possible that my Radio Rom is somewhat corrupted and volatile that it reverts to its "corrupted" state?
Still in need of help.. thanks
believe me, its a problem of dirty jack.... look into it ensuring you have light enough to see what's inside it...
Thanks Dan. It's a hardware problem at the end I confirmed.
I tried to clean it with Alcohol Pal but the problem persists. So I send it to my serviceman to repair it.
hi
this issue has somtimes nothing to do with drit in the jack. its a desing problem of the used headphone jack in the device. somtimes when you remove the plug one of the tiny contacts dosent swing back to it's normal position, so the device still thinks u are using the headphones. these kind of problems also happend on other htc devices like the universal. on my athena (and universal) the solution is to plug and remove the headphonejack serval times, this will normaly fix the problem.
greets mad
Take a sewing pin

He is right. Just take a sewing pin and try to press contact pins to its normal position. I solved same problem in this fashion. I hope this will help you.

Hi all,
I am having the weirdest problem here and need some advice. Tried the search function but came up empty, although it seems by googling that other people have faced it. Problem is that none of the following helped.
Out of the blue my phone thinks that the handsfree jack is used at all times.
So, when i actually use the handsfree all is ok.
When i unplug it i still get the headphones icon on the notification bar and every sound except ringtones is routed to the headphones jack so i have no sound at all.
Tried:
Flashed stock rom, other developers roms, and every piece of kernel i could get my hands on. Of course in the process i did the proper wipes from the cwm menu.
Factory reset.
Sound test through the *#*#0673# menu.
Plugged - unplugged the headphones like 100 times.
Cleaned the headphones hole with cotton bud.
Applied force to the walls of the headphones hole with the jack plugged in.
Took it to a tech friend of mine who took the whole thing apart and tested almost every piece of hardware to his personal handset..everything works as it should.
For now the plan is to keep pluging unplugging the handsfree till it works. I will do that because one time it actually played music from the speaker for a couple of seconds... Unfortunately it then started using the headphones again.
I could really use some help here from the gurus PLEASE.
Thanks in advance
Alex

Well, thats my next conclution. It has to be the main board which is the only one we couldnt test...i just dont want to go there yet as it means that i have to sell it for spare parts.
As for sammys service i cant really go anywhere near them after what i have put my phone through
Okay so earlier today I was eating lunch and I managed to spill water on my phone. I immediately went and dried it out and then turned it back on. Everything appeared to be working except the sound. I had the Xperia Z1, so I knew you had to wait a little before the sound would return back to normal out the speaker port, so I waited but it still wasn't working. Upon further investigation, I discovered that it would play my ringtone(a song from my SD Card), notification tone and the noise it makes when you adjust the volume using the buttons but it would not play my music through the music player app at all. It also wouldn't play sound out of the earpiece so I could only hear the only person if my phone was on speaker. The speaker is back to it's normal sound now but it still won't play music, things through youtube or pandora and my earpiece still isn't working. Is this a software issue or is it a hardware thing? It's very strange. I'm using XtreStoLite right now and I'm downloading a stock rooted rom and I'm gonna flash it to see if that changes anything, but has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? What would my options be as far as fixing the problem? Thanks in advanced for all your answers, and also, the water damaged sticker is still pearly white so I don't think it's water damaged. I already tried reseting, taking my battery out and factory reseting as well.

Wowza, what a wall of text. Paragraphs please, as that is too hard to read all the way through.
One possibility is moisture or dried crud in the headphone or USB jacks leading the phone to think that a headset is connected. Hardware damage seems a lot less likely.
Or it could be an unrelated and coincidental software issue. Do you have a known good backup that you could try restoring?
.
hi..just bought this phone about 2months, now i'm facing No sound/audio at all, here's some detail and if anyone of you any good hardware repair skills here, i need your help, as i believe100% it's not the software issues:
1. phonecall, on stock MIUI (NoROOT/customkernel,pure officialrom) its freeze/hang when dialling numbers - few second latter its rebooted itself. voice recording app won't work can't use the app as its error pop-up said, and sometimes i need to hard restart to use the phone again. and its gime bootloop and drained battery (4000mah cannot even survived for 7hour), even with no internet connections the battery still drain fast.
2. when someone calling me,there's no ringtones, even when i answering the call there's no sound at all, no musics sound, any audio files i play only hisssing/noise sounds i can hear just like feedback sound.
3. Unlocking Bootloader, replacing other rom the sounds completely disapear, no hissing, noise at all (CM,Mokee) and still phone app freeze/hang when i try make a phonecall,(reboot/hardreset)the only solution to make the phone back in usable state.
4. installing Citrus ROM, the sounds back but only hissing/noise sound on sometimes i can here the sound with some feedback issues. phone app works i can make a call without freeze/hang,no reboots, but i can't totally hear someone talk to me at all, but when i turn on the loudspeaker i can hear someone talk to me (with some annoying feedback sounds),
5. as i bricked it once and need to reach testpoint so i believe its not under warranty, seal already broken.
6.ordering the parts, connector charging board(which contain whole set new audio i guess hope can fix the issues, but just noticed that if that's part causing the no sound issues, its only fix the audio such as music,ringtones..not the front speaker(phone related still not repairable)
7. trying contact some friends which some understand about hardware told me, i break down the IC Audio so its imposible to repair/change that part since its directly micro-soldered to the mainboard.
anyone have same problem as mine?, or some of you have solutions for my problem please reply .thanks

Is there any solution how to fix it?
I use it as ipa/od without ability to make / receives any phone call, so many ppl has the same problem here seems was Xiaomi's bad hardware components, which mine believes caused by sudden-removal audio/aux jack while its still playing the musics
anyone know the average price to fix the sound ic compared to the phone? maybe 10%, 25%, 50%, or above the price of the new units?
I have the same problem,, could any one tell me where I can buy the hardware (IC sound).

hello.it is an old topic. i hope it be useful for anybody else. a few days ago My redmi note 3 pro kenzo was damaged by water. after that when I turned it on, logo of my custom ROM was appear and boot loop ... it is used in Samsung mobile phone like S4. however you can buy it. but the main problem you can't change it by your own without tools . if you are familiar with hardware it could be useful: http://www.u2ugsm.com/blog/xiaomi-redmi-note-3-ringer-solution-jumper-problem-ways/
I think cleaning IC with cleaner or alcohol might be useful. good luck
Edit: After 4 hours I turned it on and sound is back! I just cleaned it by alcohol and cleaner. but I made mistake. a little bit of that alcohol-water liquid is entered in my LCD screen. I put it in warm place and hope it will get better.
