Charging issues - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

T-Mobile sent me out a replacement phone a week and a half ago, and it doesnt charge right. :x When I plug it in, the orange light comes on, but eventually it just goes to a blinking green light - not solid. After charging all night long, I'll take it off the cradle when I head to work, and i'll only have a 80-90% charge.
Anybody else have this happen? I just fired off an angry email to T-Mo telling them of the situation. Hopefully they'll send a new unit to me ASAP.

I had a similar problem with mine - it turned out to be a combination of a dodgy charger and a fault with the battery/charging circuit.
As it was under warranty I sent it away to be repaired. Not sure what they did but it now works ok with my o2 travel charger, but when using a charge usb cable it never goes green just seems to keep charging.
What sort of charger are you using?

Charging Problems after 2003SE rom upgrade

I went away for xmass, and the last thing I did before leaving (this is stupid i know) was to upgrade my XDAII to 2003SE 2.02 rom.
I brought only my USB charge cable because i didnt want to carry too much.
Now, when I plugged it in to charge on my PC it said charging and the light came on as usual. However, it seems it wasnt charging. I left it overnight expecting to have a charged unit, only to find it completely dead the next day.
Now, when I plug it in, the charge light comes on RED for about 2 minutes, then the unit comes on from a hard reset and shows both charge levels at ZERO.
It stays on for about 10 minutes pretending to charge, but only the backup battery charges, the main one doesnt charge at all. Then it goes off totally and the light goes red again.
If I turn the unit off while it goes red straigh away and wont come back on.
After a few minutes it comes back on and pretends to charge again. The Backup battery reached "100 %" but the main battery will not charge. its still at 0% and wont charge.
Ive connected it to a 5v2amp psu as it requires but this was via a powered usb charger so using the same lead, not the official cradle.
Im worried there is something wrong but dont have access to the cradle.
Has anyone else ever had experiance of a total discharge state on an XDAII ?
UPDATE
I travelled 50 miles today to get to the nearest charge cradle for an XDA2, put my battery in and it charged fine. I put it back in the XDA and it worked. However, when I got home I plugged it into the USB charge lead, and it came on and said charging again, with the yellow light and all seemed well. I left if for a bit and the battery was then dead again with no charge and back to showing the red light. it wont come on at all now.
This is the same lead i used previously and the only change is the 2003SE rom, has anyone else had a problem charging after doing this rom upgrade? Can I revert back to 172 ? how? help please.
Please help. IM screwed unless I can find a solution, has anyone got any idea?
Dude, I have the same problem on my 1.72 version. I have (of course) dropped by xda2 several times on the floor, but it works charging from the cradle (which again has a adapter connected to it) but not from my brand new USB sync+Charge cable. I have also tried another cable and even on a different PC. Only thing that happens, is that it says it is charging, but nooooo... it's all flat after a little while. It's as if the cable uses my XDA power to change the PC instead of the other way around
It's funny. So now I have to drag that big-ass charger along with me to work every day instead of that neat little USB cable.
Life is unfair!
As for your problems, I can only say that you're not alone.
Hi, thanks for the reply.
I havent ever dropped mine, ive taken good care of it, so I dont think that is the cause. It does sound like the same issue however, I dont have my cradle here to test it though, just a usb sync+charge cable.
Does it work with the charge adaptor and psu alone? I mean the little thing that goes on the end of the mains psu to connect directly to the XDA without the cradle. How about on the cradle without the PSU plugged in?
I think this may be a hardware fault that needs repair, so its off back to o2 for mine if it is, you may find they would repair yours too.
Anyone else got an idea?

With my charger alone, it charges perfectly. In the Cradle with the charger connected, it works too. I havn't tried to use the cradle alone using only the USB cable to the PC.
I think I might bring it to the repair-dudes when it's so trashed that it is not working at all Until then, i will keep on using it.
I have exactly the same problem. i am not sure if it was because of the upgrade, but this is what happened to me, I upgraded to 1.72wwe from the factory 1.66wwe and it was working fine when I noticed that sometimes when it was charging after pulling out the plug, the unit will display 0% charge from the external battery and then after plugging it again the power is at 100%, It happened twice and was ok again, I presumed it was just a glitch from the system and promptly dismissed it as such. After a week, it was hardresetting everytime i got it out of the plug. I brought it to the service center and they replaced the battery (it was under warranty) It was working fine then I upgraded to 2003se the unit was ok for about 3 days then i noticed that the unit was loosing charge and hardresetting everytime. I brought it to the service center again and they said they replaced the motherboard this time and was back to 1.66wwe. So far its ok and working fine.

Razr suddenly died

Hey everyone,
I have a rogers branded razr and it suddenly died while I had it plugged in to charge. It had about 20% battery before it died, and it was plugged in. Nothing seems to bring my phone back to life. I've tried the power and volume down button together to no avail. The phone's LED light also flashes white every 15 minutes or so. Anyone have any suggestions before I take the phone back to get exchanged?

Doesn't seem to be looking good. I've had the device charging for over half an hour now and the razr is literally cold.
Same thing happened to me when my phone battery finished , its wouldnt charge with the USB charge from pc just a flashing white light would appear at front of phone , then i tried charging with the mains charger and it woke the phone back up from that whatever it was
led flashes white means charge problem? you may try something different.

Just tried a different charger on the razr and nothing happened. Also tried my razr charger with my samsung galaxy s and it charges that just fine. Guess I'm taking this phone back Such a pity as it was such a great phone.
very died
My phone just died completely a week ago while plugged on my macbook usb port. The phone is new, o bought it last month and it's already dead? come on, i thought motorola had solved it's battery quality problem from more than 5 years ago. It can only be a battery problem right?
I'm really curious what should have caused this problem, because i'm afraid motorola can't guarantee this problem won't happen again! even if it takes a year! i'm worried to loose warranty and the battery fails again! and i bet it will!
Just can't believe how many people had this same problem!
I hope to receive a new phone from warranty or at least a new battery - and hoppefully better battery!

I had received the white light of death as i call it on my razr. Basically the phone abruptly turned off and then would refuse to turn on. Plugging it into any computer/wall charger gave a solid white notification light which means the battery is too low to boot the phone. So i left it to charge for a few hours but no luck. Just took the phone back to rogers and they had it sent back for repairs and the notes showed that a Level 3 part was replaced. I'm assuming its battery related but it could be other hardware failure as well.

[Q] Is my phone dead?

I started having problem charging the phone a couple weeks ago. Sometimes it charges just fine, but then sometimes it wouldn't charge at all even if it's pluged in the whole night. The top half of the phone gets pretty warm if it's plugged in. So I plugged it in last night and when I woke up this morning, the phone wouldn't turn on at all. I plugged in the charger again and it just shows the black and white battery symbol in the center repeatedly. Then when the phone get's hot, the screen just goes black. I tried to charge it with my computer but it's just the same. When I say it gets hot, only the top half of the phone gets hot, the battery feels fine. Could it be the mainboard or is it something software that I can still fix by myself? Someone please points me to the right direction. Thanks.
First I'd try a different battery, one that is known to be good. If that doesn't solve the problem, I'd take it to a service center to get it checked out and possibly replaced, assuming you are under contract and warranty.
I guess u're right. I'll do that first before anything else. Thanks heaps

[Q] TP2 wont charge but LED is amber (replaced charger, battery and usb)

Good morning all,
I have this weird problem with my HTC touch pro 2...
A couple of years ago i bought 2 of these phones and i actually never used them until 2 weeks ago. (so brand new)
This, because i decided to flash them with android NAND ROM's which seemd to be working fine up until one point where i got this issue.
Some background info about the phone:
Both of them are HardSPL unlocked, have WinMo removed and instead have Anrdoid 2.3.7. installed. (which is working fine btw)
At first both of the phones seem to run fine and both of them where able to charge.
After a week of using the phones one of the phones stopped charging. (i tested some VOIP app from Aastra)
When the phone was powered on and the charger was plugged in, the Amber LED was lid but the battery was still draining... altho in the Android menu it stated "AC - adapter, Charging".
Because the charger i use is the original HTC charger which is brand new and so is the USB cable my first thought was.. well the battery could be defective since it has been in the box for some years..
At this point i changed the battery from one phone to the other to see if it would charge, but no luck still the same issue.
Then i replaced the AC adapter and USB cable with the ones from the other TP2, since that phone was charging fine...
Also no luck, the TP2 was still showing a Amber LED but did not charge at all.
After this i tried plugging in de USB cable in my PC to see if the PC would charge it, but as i expected, again no luck.
Then is switched off the phone and plugged in the AC adapter, the LED goes to Amber which indicates charging.
But now the weird thing, when i unplug the cable the LED remains amber !
And then the even MORE weird thing.... when i at this point remove the battery, wait 30 seconds and re-insert the battery the LED becomes amber right away !!
And when i trie to turn on the phone it does nothing, there is no respons at all to pressing the power button...
Just that amber LED....
Then i tried removing the SD-card and SIM, left the battery out for over an hour and tried to re insert the battery, but still the amber light goes on The AC-Adapter is not plugged in at this point !
At this point i was not sure anymore what to do, so i disassembled the phone to look if there was some bad / loose soldering on the USB plug.
But sadly enough i could not find any bad or loose soldering points, i also was not able to find any burnt or other bad looking circutes.
Then i reassembled the phone and made one last attempt to re-insert the battery, then the LED did not start to illuminate !
So for a verry short period of time i had good hopes that it was oke now... but then i plugged in the AC-adapter, the LED was amber again..
But the phone again will not turn on, and when i remove the battery and re-insert it it still shows the amber LED without the AC-adapter plugged in...
Right now i am at the point where i am not sure what to do anymore.
I was wondering if any of my fellow XDA visitors have experience with such an issue, or maybe even know a fix for this..
Some ideas to test or how to fix this are verry welcome ! :good:

I had a tp2 do something similar to this after it was hit with a power surge. Data would work, but no charging. Sadly the best suggestion at this point is to get a battery charger off ebay for like $5 and/or look for a replacement phone on Ebay/Craigslist. If the chip controlling the usb port is damaged it may work partially, and there is no way to repair it.

The chargers i got seem to be fine since i can charge my other TP2 with both of the chargers and cables.
I guess my only option is to leave it be.. cry... and move on with life...
Maybe, someone else has an other idea...

If you have a known good fully charged battery, and you can't make the phone work with it, then you sadly are probably out of luck.
That is a hardware failure, or a software failure requiring something along the lines of a jtag repair.
I was reading the text as though the phone would turn on with a charged battery, but wouldn't recharge the battery. I guess I misunderstood.

Magnetic charger, tried plugging in, battery drained, now flashes red when charging.

Hi, I've just got a new magnetic charger and after trying to plug my phone in the battery drained from 40% to what i can imagine is now 0%. When trying to charge the phone the notification light was flashing red, but now after leaving it plugged into my laptop for 10 to 20 minutes it is a solid red light. If i plug it back into a wall socket it starts flashing again.
When first trying to plug the magnetic charger in, I may of had it upside down, but as there were no instructions saying that there was a wrong way round, I can't imagine how it was this that might of caused it.
Any ideas on what i should do?
EDIT - After 10 minutes of it being plugged into the wall it is now a solid red light also.
leave it plugged into a wall
this can take upto +45 mins to have enough power to even respond
It finally rebooted itself, but now the battery life is awful, barely lasts a day, in comparison to the 2 days it used to get, is it possible that it's damaged the battery?

Probably, repetitive engaugement and disengagement of the battery can cause faster wear
I'll just send it back to Amazon and get a refund, I think it's done a bit more damage than I can tell

I got just exactly the same problem @hellfire191......i have leave it OFF and charge it for almost 1 days but it only reach 19%..i leave it for 2nd and it up only to 41%...i open it for the first time and it start normally, so i start to look up what cause the problem..but everything look fine..then i realized that my batteries is draining so fast like 1 minute = 1% while i'm still on charging..so i quit play around with my phone and leave charged again..but this time, i wait until 40% and i tried to flash firmwire back to stock...i managed to flash it..but when the phone is started to load the apps the batteries died..but it continue loading the apps after i got some batteries charge up..now i'm at stock LP 23.4.A.0.546..i thought it will solved the problem..but it still the same..now i'm stuck almost 1 month with no phone....luckily i manage to borrow/share a phone with my son
Is anyone got any ideas what wrong with my phone and what should i do..pls help me

It probably happens when u attach the magnetic cable wrong way i.e. negative to positive and positive to negative.

but as there were no instructions saying that there was a wrong way round..
You shouldn't be able to plug the magnetic charger in the wrong way as there are different spacings across the connectors.. unless you forced it? You don't have to push them in, they just snap into place when hover the connector over the port, no pushing needed at all.
As for the damage maybe draining your phone to 1-2% and charge to full, repeat a again, might return the battery to original state. That or you've damaged one of the capacitors used for the battery, or the battery itself is now damaged. Best of luck.

Thank for the information..when I'm buying that magnetic charger I didn't ask any instruction on how to use it..after what was happen, the seller just do a poker face and refuse to take any responsible on what happen to my phone..is my mistake also..now I think I will take the phone to repair it ..let the "expert" do the job..:silly:
