RAM UPGRADE

Does anyone have information on upgrading the RAM to 64 Meg, last time I looked here there was some info on it but it seems to have gone
I would also like to know where to purchase the RAM Chips.
Try www.expansys.co.uk, they advertise two upgrades, 64Mb and 128Mb, although the 128Mb one is not available yet.
Yes I had seen the Expansys upgrade at £94.43 but I would prefer to buy the chip and do the upgrade myself, if possible.
THe problem is where to buy the right chip... and then install
Expansys are getting their upgrades from PPCTECH in the States, it might be worth contacting them for chips.
where to buy XDA memory cards from
You can buy extra memory from store like Dixons, but if you do want a RAM update then you cane go to a O2 Store and they will sell you 32 MB Ram update so that you have 64 MB for £30 or so. this is quite good
if you need any more information email at [email protected]

I contacted PPCTECH in the states and got this trply from their Tech Support;
Hi Angus,
The XDA is one of the most difficult units we upgrade. It is surface mount
and not user installable.
I would suggest going through expansys.com.
Best Regards,
Leonard
So it looks like we will have to wait until expansys get their act together
My phone has now been at Expansys for, um, just coming up to 3 weeks. And the parts still haven't arrived. I made the order in January, and waited several weeks before they sent me the details of what to do, and now I've done it I had expected them to have the parts in already.
Just a point to note. The maximum RAM an XDA will accept is 64Mb. If you get the 128Mb upgrade, 64MB will be allocated to RAM, the remaining 64Mb will be used as a virtual storage card - however, it will still be wiped after a hard reset / flat battery.
Best not let the battery go flat then!!!!
I am still tempted to wait for the 128Mb rather that the 64Mb. Unless the price of 512Mb SD cards comes down a bit.

This is not the same as a RAM upgrade.

XDA Pcmcia?

Hi.
I used to own a 5450 but I had to sell it in April to raise costs for the wedding. However, I have just picked up a new o2 Xda for £100 at work - but I miss the functionality that the ipaq offered with regards to expansion packs!
Is there anything on the market that would allow a pcmcia device to be attached to the Xda?
Thanks
No, there isn't. Yes, this is annoying.
still .... ive seen the ipaq with its expansion sleeve. You need a backpack to carry it!
thanks for the feedback. Just would be nice to have the Orinoco working with the Xda. Still shouldn't complain - blasted the xda with the special edition rom and that Orange sim card loves it's new home.
Besides the lack of exp packs - my first impression of the XDA? Why didn't I buy one sooner?
cheers

sorry for this.
well, currently I have USD 200 equivalent locally for the unit only but looking for a better offer ...

Backpack for QTEK 2020

Does anyone know if the backpack supports microdrives? - I read somewhere that CF II support does not automatically include support for microdrive. - In case it does, I found a great tip from a cameraforum for getting a 4 GB microdrive for cheap (£199)
Yeah there is much talk from other PPC users about the creative muvo2 having an unsoldiered 4gb microdrive inside that can be removed easily and retails at a much cheaper price than the drive alone
Currently $200
However until the backpack is released and tested we will not know for sure.
I have been holding off getting an XDAII till I know what this backpack is going to do for me.

Difference between Qtek 8500 and I-mate Smartflip ?

Hi folks,
due to my athena (which I use for business purposes) beeing soooo big, I look forward to buy a new 8500 as a second device for weekends ...
At the moment, I found an I-mate Smartflip for 80 € and a Qtek 8500 for about 150 €, both at expansys.
Can anybody explain me the differences? As far as i found out, there's no german rom available for the smartflip, what i could ignore if it is possible to flash another (maybe orig. 8500 Rom from htc) on it.
Are there any other differences from smartflip to 8500 ?
Please help ....
Best regards and many thanks,
tsfnet
No other differences: only sw installed in the ROM (in I-Mate version for example the ClearVue suite is present) and logos change.
I have a SmartFlip ^^
D'rath
PS: Sorry for my english
PPS: 80€? Take it!!! ^^
Hi,
thanks for your information, I'll get one ... incl. tax and shipping the'll charge 100 €.
http://www.expansys.de/p.aspx?i=132854
PS: Do not mind your english, trying and doing deserves respect Nobody's born perfect and multilingual ... there are a lot of countries (e.g. france) where you better talk bad french than good english ...
the pdadb site says that i-mate has the irda port - is this true?
No. No recent HTC devices have IrDA. All Startrek models are identical except for the AT&T 3185, which has 128MB ROM instead of 64MB, and comes with the extended battery standard. You can flash any StarTrek model to have the software of any other (although putting AT&T roms on 64MB devices leaves you with little free space).
The other variant with 128Mb ROM is the Dopod S301. It was an update to the S300 which only had 64Mb. Flashing WM6 to it has given mine a new lease of life!
Mike
A lot of people on these forums have 64MB versions. Unless a ROM specifically says it DOESN'T work on 64MB versions, it probably installs just fine. The 64MB space difference isn't very much. You might find it is better to spend your money on the cheaper one, then use the money you saved to buy a 1 or 2GB MicroSD card, which will offer much more than 64MB of extra space.
