Minute Minder Software or Setting? - MDA, XDA, 1010 General

Is there any sort of program (or setting in WM2003) that acts as a minute minder when using the phone ? Have not been able to locate actual setting in WM2003, but maybe I overlooked (?)

while in a call hold down the green button then look at the screen and count the minutes each time the clock changes lol
try yahoo/google for xda minute minder s/w might have it on somewhere

Try PhoneDashboard from Hudson Mobile. This will track your usage of free/used minutes against your mobile plan/tariff. It is a Today screen plug-in with various reports to show breakdowns. Works well.

Minute Minder
Thanks for the input.
Actually, I was looking for some sort of program that would "beep" every 50 seconds or so I knew that my phone call was approaching one minutue (my old Samsung had feature like this). TIA

TP will wake up from standby by itself

When my phone is in the holster, or when charging, it automatically comes out of standby mode every so often. I don't know why it keeps doing that, but it has done it so much that I had to turn on the Lock feature on so the buttons don't get accidently pushed when in my holster etc (very annoying). I spoke to a friend who said it might be a program running in the background that keeps making the phone come out of standby because it doesn't happen to his TP. But the running programs list only has Text, and Calendar always open so I doubt its those that's causing.
Any ideas on how to solve this really annoying issue? And does anyone else experience this?
Note: My carrier is Sprint and I have no custom ROM's)

You will find that the Lock feature isn't really going to be any help either because the sliding of the keyboard will a) Wake the phone up and b) Unlock it as well if it slides more.
You can make this registry edit to make it so the slide doesn't wake up the phone. Now, when you get a text message or email (I think) the phone will wake up but as long as you don't slide it more than about half an inch, the phone won't unlock.
You should be using the lock feature on your phone anyway. If you haven't figured it out yet, you can make the "Long End key press" lock the phone. It works very well to make locking the phone quick and easy. Then you can either use the push button method to unlock OR side the phone open to unlock.

I guess I didn't phrase it right...I mean when the phone is just sitting there and the keyboard is not opening at all because it is sitting on a desk charging, no text or e-mail message go in or out, bluetooth not connected, and no alarms, or events pop up the phone comes out of standby...same scenario in my belt holster.
True I should be using the lock feature but I like to set the timer to 5 or 10 minutes but sometimes it comes out of standby before then.

Interesting... You are really burning up your battery (if not plugged in) letting it not go into standby for 5-10 minutes but I wonder if it some other data transmission. What is your email interval set at? Even if no emails are received, it's still sending a data "pulse" to the server.
I have te same issue (Alltel Touch Pro)
I leave the phone on the charger overnite, and sitting by itself,
even with Lock on, it will wake up, stay up the timeout period,
then go back to sleep. Like it has Sleep Apnea?
I do email by webmail so that's not an issue.

mrrogers: What I meant was I like the Lock on feature to come on after 5-10 minutes...it is already in standby mode, but the lock feature is not activated until 5-10 minutes (look inside your lock settings and you will see what I mean) so I am not draining the battery.....e-mail interval is set at 4 hours so it can't be that. Even if it was that, the screen should not wake up just for sending data in or out.
fuzzynco: YES I have the same problem...its as if the phone does not want to sleep. It stays up for the timeout period then goes back to sleep then turns on again a few minutes later for no apparent reason...but for me it also comes out of standby even when not being charged.
I suppose mine might do it too then, I guess I never notice because I plug in to charge and go to sleep. :-D
I am going to test this out tonight and see what my phone does. I am running a custom Rom so who knows what might happen. I thin something that also could mask the fact that this is happening to me is that my backlight and power setting are 30sec and 1min.
If I'm not doing something on my phone, it is locked. Unlocking is so simple I don't bother with timing the locking event. I think you must use the actual "Password" protection right? I do not use that feature but I know the settings you are referring to. I have only been referring to the device lock.

My backlight and power settings are the same as yours.
I didn't understand your last paragraph. All I have enabled is my "lock" feature in the settings. The system lock with password is enabled after 5 minutes, but that doesnt mean it takes 5 minutes to go into standby mode. Standby mode is seperate, and it only takes 30 sec to go to standby. But after 5 minutes of standby, the "lock" feature with password is enabled.
My problem is that before that 5 minute mark, the screen comes out of standby for no apparent reason.
I'll chime in here. Verizon Touch Pro. Haven't really done much to it, but a few advanced config settings. Mine will wake up in the holster, and even when it's just sitting there on the desk charging. I only let the screen stay on for a short time, so I haven't seen my battery suffer, but this happens enough to be annoying.

exactly stanton! same thing with me...My screen is only set for a short time so I haven't seen battery loss but very annoying. Any theories out there?
Mine does it as well Sprint TP
I think all Windows mobile phones pretty much do this.
No idea why, but there's really nothing you can do about it.
I have been testing this evening and I can't get my phone to do it. I've been testing on battery power and will try plugged in tomorrow during the day.
Are you guys using TF3D? I'm not so I wonder if it might be something tied in there? Weather? Maybe some crazy update in the music tab?
Wish I could have helped... I'll check in tomorrow and report what I find on external power.
Long time lurker, here...
I seem to remember a similar issue with the XV6600 (Blue Angel) that was traced back to some settings having to do with the syncing with Exchange servers. My memory is kind of fuzzy on the issue, but that could be a place to start to look?
I've had my Vz TP for about a week now and have not had that issue.
Check Pocket Express. By default, it's set to update itself every 4 hours (at least on the Sprint TP).
My TP was doing the same thing (ie: coming out of Sleep on it's own). That, and the Data Connection wouldn't stay turned off. I don't like my computers and phones doing anything without my expressed permission so this was driving me nuts. Since I found the Pocket Express setting and set it to manual, my phone doesn't misbehave anymore.
Another setting you might want to look at is the QuickGPS settings. It will automatically try to update itself too. I changed mine to "Remind me when data expires" and "Auto download when connected to PC via ActiveSync" and that works best for me.
Basically, you have to go through every one of your apps and check their configurations. The two I mentioned above are definite sources of your problem but there could be others.
Pete
I havent had my VZW tp do that yet. But i see its doing it on all 3 CDMA companies. I wonder if its a glitch in the hardware or the data settings that makes it do that. I dont run any email through my phone. I wonder if the email is the cause of its insomnia.
I have the same issue whether on a stock or Custom ROM.
Not sure about effects on battery. Never really gaged it. I always get 24 to 36 hours before I have to recharge.
Its not a program in the background. I just created a clean ROM with nothing in it and it still does it.

Im pretty sure its the HTC APM 1.5 drivers.
Any other thoughts?
I didnt see any problems with the TP waking up on any of the GSM versions.
I am curious as what would be different that would cause this.
My sprint pro also does this.
Ill have it in my hand and the screen will just turn on. Not sure why.

[07.07.2009, v 1.3.1] Astrolabe - SMS your GPS position

Download. Simply decompress it and copy it on your Windows Mobile 6 device and run it. (Works on my Polaris.)
Details
Source code
Description
Use your PDA to acquire your GPS position and send it through an SMS.
The GPS position is update every 5 seconds (in order to conserve energy).
SMSs can be sent automatically at regular time intervals.
Do you like hiking?
What if you go out in the wilderness and have an accident? How do you direct a rescue team to your location?
You can use Astrolabe on your PDA to acquire your GPS position and send it through an SMS to your friends / parents / children / rescue team.
Privacy
SMSs are not encrypted, so anyone who tracks your phone number can tell your precise position by reading the SMSs with your GPS position.
However, it's debatable whether this is relevant because if someone tracks your phone number, they may already know the position of your phone in the communication grid.
Power saving modes explained
The following power saving modes are available: none, manual, auto.
None
In this mode there is no power saving. The application and the GPS are running even if the PDA is in standby.
GPS positions are retrieved as soon as they are available and are automatically sent through SMSs as soon as it is mandated.
Warning: In this mode, the battery is drained quickly (because keeping the GPS active requires a lot of power). Therefore, the "Auto" power saving mode is active by default.
Use this mode only when GPS position availability is critical.
Manual
In this mode the power consumption is the same as if the application (including the GPS) is not running.
However, you must keep your PDA on in order for GPS positions to be retrieved and automatically sent through SMSs.
Use this mode only when power consumption must be at minimum.
Auto
In this mode the application is running all the time, but the GPS is sleeping most of the time.
Once every 30 minutes, the GPS is awoken for maximum 5 minutes in order to get a GPS position and automatically send it through SMS. When a GPS position is available, this timer is reset.
In this mode, since the PDA sleeps most of the time, it may miss the narrowest chance it may have to get a GPS signal. In order to be sure that GPS positions are retrieved and automatically sent through SMSs, you must keep your PDA on.
Warning: Do not rely on the ability of a PDA in standby mode to automatically acquire a GPS position in (maximum) 5 minutes. Check this yourself!
Use this mode in most cases.
Tests showed that in this mode the battery (of a HTC Polaris, 1350 mAh) would be depleted in about 16 hours, if no GPS signal is available; if there is a GPS signal, the autonomy should be greatly increased (an informal test indicates more than twice the autonomy). Without power saving, the battery would be depleted in about 6 hours.

what if there isent any signal?
(joking..)
Nice app btw
If there is no signal, the program waits until it acquires a new GPS position. Then, a new SMS is sent within (generally) 5 seconds.
(Of course, if the repeat time is X, the SMS is sent only if more time than X has passed since the last sent SMS.)
Note: Keeping the GPS active drains the battery quickly.

I hace seen many programs like yours, almost all drains battery when there is no GPS signal (inside buildings). Only one programs deals it better, but that has many other issues. One way to stop draining the battery is to read 'N' (say 50) number of NMEA messages from GPS and then turn off GPS for about 'M' (5 - 15) minutes. Then try again. This will save lot of battery. May be you can try implementing it.
You can download a new version which has 2 new features.
You can see the trail of GPS locations where you were. The trail is updated once per minute.

As you can see, I've implemented a manual power save mode.
In theory, an automated power save mode can be implemented, where the GPS is woke up every 30 minutes to get a location and then sent back to sleep. However, I have no idea what that would do to the device, that is, waking it up every half hour and then shutting it down.
But most importantly, if a GPS location can't be retrieved, what would the device do? The user could be sleeping in a motel for the night (or move through caves or canyons) and the walls could block the GPS signal. Should the device keep trying and thusly consume energy (for how long?), or go back to sleep and miss even the smallest chance of getting a GPS location in those 30 minutes?
An automated power save mode is in conflict with the criticality of having a GPS location any time it is available. Of course, if the device has no power this becomes irrelevant, so a power save mode is necessary. But it's important for the user to understand what's going on.
The current manual mode allows the user to understand that and allows the settings (especially the trail) to remain active all the time. For the moment I consider this to be the best solution.
Accelerometer
Hi,
Your program i very interesting, it will be great to manage the accelerometer
and send a SMS when the phone do not move or when it goes from vertical to
horizontal position.
What do you think of that?

In what context would someone use such a feature? I mean, what does an accelerometer provide that the GPS's altitude does not?
I guess an SMS could be sent as soon as a significant change in altitude occurs (because this could indicate a fall).
Very good idea, thank you
I know you're still developing this program,
Can you add customizable SMS feature? I might need to send an sms in my native language.
And

SMSs are sent to a predefined agenda contact. Someone who wants to send SMSs with his GPS location should normally do so to a regular agenda contact, so he'll already have an agenda contact or can setup one anytime. What particular usage would there be for an SMS sent to a phone number instead of an agenda contact?
I'll have a new version by tomorrow (if tests are okay) with multiple power saving modes: none, manual (as is now), automatic (where the GPS is automatically woken up to get a location - 5 every 30 minutes). I'll include the "copy GPS position to clipboard" in there.
In automatic power saving mode, tests showed that the battery (of my Polaris, 1350 mAh) would be depleted in about 16 hours (if no GPS signal is available; if it is and reception is good, the autonomy should be greatly increased). Without power saving, the battery would be depleted in about 6 hours.
Although the new version is already up, I'll make a small change later today.
Version 1.3.1 is up. See the first post.
I am going for a hike up the cobbler and Ben Ime in the Arrochar Alps on friday so i will take my polaris and see how things go.
Well that hike went well and i have taken my polaris on a few other hikes.
To be honest you have almost developed a GPS application for your phone. The sms ability is great, but what i really liked was the trail plotting ability.
A standalone GPS will provide you with a line route against gradient maps. I don't expect there to be gradient maps but just a route line sampled at regular intervals would be great. It would be a good aid to plotting your route with a paper map.
Can i ask if the trail samples can be increased?
The current default power saving mode is "Auto", which means that Astrolabe can only take a GPS location once every 30 minutes. As such, the trail can't be updated more often. Moreover, if the 5 minutes window when Astrolabe attempts to get a GPS location is missed (because the GPS reception is poor), the next one is 30 minutes later, which mean that the trail accuracy is getting worse.
You can change the power saving mode is "None", in which case the trail is updated once per minute... but the battery dies out fast.
Instead of changing the power saving mode, you could manually start your PDA every time you think it's necessary to get a GPS location (and trail location). (Just look in Astrolabe to make sure that the time of the last GPS location is the current time.)
(As I said, the power saving modes will cause confusion.)
I added the trail feature after a bunch of us got lost in the woods. After some 2 hours of being off course we were debating whether to return or go further. Fortunately someone went 200 meters further and saw the road (from where we started). With this feature I could have seen that we were going in the right direction.

[Q] HTC Mozart Problems!

Hey!
So I got the Mozart yesterday and I have some problems!
First of all my windows live id.
I connected with my Xbox ID and everything works fine, but in the settings it is always written attention required and updates do not work, but I can download and install apps from the marketplace.
Secondly my battery barley lasts a day WIFI and 3G connection turned off. It has been on today for 3 houres and already 10% is used?? It has only been on standby any things I forgot to turn off?
And did someone manage to get the HTC flashlight working, as it says the mozart is not supported, and does someone have that awesome notes app from HTC i cant seem to find it in the marketplace. THere is only something called lists??
Thanks in advance!
Hi.
I got my Mozart 3 days ago, but maybe I can give some answers.
HTC Notes: The easiest way is through Marketplace. Start Marketplace. On top of the list it says "HTC Apps". Tap on it, scroll down and there it is.
Or you start "HTC Hub". On bottom of first page it says "Weiter" or maybe "More". Tap on it. Do the same on next page. Under "Apps" sroll down and there it is. I prefer the first way.
Battery works fine for me. Starting in the morning at nearly 100% it goes down to about 50% in the evening. WLAN+BT turned of, 3G running the hole day. I have about 20 min. calltime and 30 min. internet. Mail download is set to 1 hour.
Update: Sorry, thought "Listen" was same as "Notes", but Notes seems not downloadable.
For battery life, don't keep push e-mail or GPS on.
battery life
and for best battery-life: turn phone off. I can't understand how feducing connectivity is accepted as the only way to keep a smartphone working throughout a single workday
The Battery Life is very good
I am seeing excellent battery life. A fully charged phone in the morning lets me run Wifi, Push email to my Exchange server, Positioning, Bluetooth and 3G all day with probably an average of 10 - 15 calls per day. Add to that, plenty of playing around, downloading, surfing and facebook etc and I think this would count as fairly decent daily usage. My battery is ausually round 30% by bed time when it is hooked up to Zune on my PC for a charge and a sync.
Cheers
Andy
OK thanks guys it was soo weird after the 10 % it didnt move until I started playing again, but it was weird that the first 10 % were finished so fast and how do you turn of GPS? I did not find an option.

The flashlight app (if you mean one that would permanently turn on the camera flash to use it as a torch) will not work on the Mozart.
The Mozart has a Xenon flash, like a real camera. These can only be used for a very short time (e.g. when the flash goes off) and not turned on for a longer time.
All other Windows Phone 7 handsets use LED lights as their flash. These are not as bright when they just flash, but they can be turned on permanently without them burning out.
I don't think any Flashlight app will ever support the Mozart, because of this.

Hi again.

HTC Notes is great but you can write free hand, only type?
and why we need HTC Notes as MS Office Note has the same functionality and its already installed on WM 7.
My problem is the power-Button. This button is too sensible. If i have the mozart in my pants, it could be that the phones turns off by walking.

Yes. This is more a software-problem... Or stay i alone with this problem?
I am not sure exactly what has happened to mine and I cant seem to find any similar scenarios on the net so far.
It cut out/turned off mid phone call this morning and it will not turn back on, have tried power button and camera button, pulled out/replaced battery, put it on charger (no charge light), only thing left is to try my gf's battery (my battery was >50%) but I don't think that is the problem. Not really looking for a solution here but will post back if I work it out so others can easier (will take it to the shop).
EDIT: Don't know if this will help anyone but I tried as a last resort a hard reset (you lose all your data) and for some reason the phone just turned on ( I didn't get a reset screen). I did this by holding the volume up and the volume down and briefly tapping the power button.
Has anyone have problems scrolling the pages up and down in internet explorer, it sometimes does not react to your finger, like it just freezes.
In dark rooms, sometimes my mozart makes blue pictures...
All of the problems above I have experienced and more, the OS at best is a first release, and depending on your software environment, what apps you have installed, you will experience a variety of problems. On the whole if you use mainstream apps, you should not have major problems. Battery life, is mainly down to your carrier, optimising their servers to deliver data to the phone in an economical way.

It true if you press the unlock button for a long time it turns off regardless of where you are in the OS.....
And the IE problems sometimes happens... No clue why but it sometimes also zooms in and out instead of scrolling.
These are normal ^^

another way to freeze your Mozart

1. set an alarm time at 7:00 am or whatever time in the morning at night before you go to bed.
2. when the alarm set off at the set time, do not touch it until a quite long time later, let's say, 9:00am.
3. then start the phone, try to slide the hood up using your finger. you can move it up, however it can sometimes only moves to halfway of the screen or completely. but either way, then you get it frozen there.
4. to use the phone you have to switch it off and restart it again although luckily WP7 starts up quite faster than those using WM6.5.
ps: in my case, i set the alarm at 8:30 am, but i didn't do anything when it alarmed until it became quiet itself. when i tried to use it at about 10:00am, it froze. until it happened to me quite a few times i realised that it could be a bug of it. it happens even after i did the hard reset.
by the way the ROM is from Orange, UK.
same here, every morning the alarm does not wake me up then when i wake up at look at the phone its frozen. and im guessing if i call orange they will ask me to hard reset the phone, lose all my settings and apps ( thatn sounds so iphone,....apps) for the problem to continue!!!! any one else want a rant about this problem.
no problem with mine
alarm set to 5:30am, 6:30am, 7:00am
and its orange uk too
works very ok
use it everyday

Please try to do the same as i said using only one alarm time in my post instead of three times. And if interested, try the procedures in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845321, too. Many thanks.
Actually: here's my whole story... kind of a lil different experience for me...
Scenario 1:
Created three alarms, each one 15 minutes apart... they helped me in walking up and i would click the dismiss button and such... but most of the time, even though the phone worked without any problems, NO AUDIO! Even when i played any song on the phone or got a call or anything... Plus, the Power button only unlocked but never shut-down the phone so had to take out the battery to reset... A few times though it wasn't frozen but while unlocking or going into a hub or something, it would end up freezing.
Scenario 2:
Disabled one of the alarms and by the time i wake up, i usually find the phone frozen and unresponsive... Sometimes it would work but same problem as before, no audio at all....
Scenario 3:
Only one alarm enabled now every noon ('coz i wake up at 1:00 PM), i always find the phone frozen and have to reset...!
Scenario 4:
No Alarms enabled! Phone works SUPER DUPER FRICKIN' AWESOME!!!! Well the only time i usually do end up resetting is when Marketplace crashes out on me and doesn't start back up (which has really happened only once in a while)
--------------------------------------------
Call me crazy but despite this annoying bug i'm really loving my Mozart!
Not sure if this is a HTC issue (most-likely) but I do hope that these issues are ironed out in the January/February updates!!! Keeping my fingers crossed...
Regards.
Salman Khalid.
been using my alarms ok just changed to the 3 alarms be cause i always used to ignore the first sound
was not freezing when it was one
not freezing now that i have three
only frozen once on market while downloading xbox live extras
my phone works perfectly what more can i say
fantastic device
Same problem here.
I've two ararlms, set 3 min apart. if i dimiss the first alarm before the second goes off, all works fine. but if the first is not dismissed then after the second alarm i need to restart the Mozart.
Agree with others that despite all these annoying things Mozart is a great device. I wish Microsoft releases the next update asap.
Similar problems here since day 1. My issue though was caused by hitting the snooze button each time the alarm went off (instead of actually getting out or bed or hitting the dismiss button).
After about half dozen "snoozes" the phone hangs and needs the battery removed (power button will not turn the device off, screen unresponsive to touch input, only the screen can be turned on and off with the power button).
Has anyone tried to replicate the issue with "vibrate" turned off under "ringtones & sounds" settings? I've turned this off which solved some occasional sound stuttering when receiving emails or sms, and I can't say that I've noticed this alarm bug since.
Maybe worth a try?

Reading this really makes me wonder, whether there was a decent Q&A involved...
Especially, since the WP7 runs way better than WM6 (or 6.1 or 6.5) - but fails in seemingly small applications.
(My problem regarding the jump-to-letter feature in the Zune application is purely based on the German language -.- . I've set my Mozart to English - just to try it - and suddenly the letters appear correctly and allow me to jump directly to a letter (like in the contacts) in the Zune application. If the language is set to German, all letters are grey and only the "#" is active...)
I really hope that these bugs will be fixed in the next update.
(Additionally, my phone has not crashed since I stopped using the alarm clock)
I had WM 5, 6, 6.1, 6.3 and 6.5 soon WP 7
I never used the windows alarm because it freeze my devices every time.
Crazy.....
I have SPB Time it's very nice
I had set up like 8 alarms, and i have the same problem OP has.
If you don't dismiss your alarm, phone freezes when the next alarm goes.
I have T-Mobile 16GB Mozart. so it isn't orange related
I'm using my mozart every morning as an alarm clock - no problems until now. But normally I wake up and hit "dismiss".
I have a germany T-Mobile device...

Anyone else using Tasker? If so, what profiles you setting up?

I love Tasker. I use it a lot on my phone for all kinds of automated tasks. For the Prime, I have set up the following so far:
1. at 11pm it shuts off WiFi and starts back up at 6:30am (save battery if I forget to put it on charger)
2. at 10pm it shuts off BT and never starts back up in morning (save battery if I forget to put it on charger or forget to turn BT off)
3. at 10pm it shuts off GPS and never starts back up in morning (save battery if I forget to put it on charger or forget to turn GPS off) - UPDATE: I see now this one will not work in the HC OS as the system requires user interaction to set GPS
4. at 11pm it shuts off Sync and starts back up at 6:30am (save battery if I forget to put it on charger and I dont want to hear gMail alerts all nigh)
5. When on power cable, it (a) turns off the need to unlock it (b) leaves the screen on
6. give me an alert tone at 20% battery
7. if it is in my car and attached via BT it turns up the brightness (since I am outside) and leaves on display (as I normally also have it plugged in) so I can use things like Torque and the Navi/GPS and see the screen
thats all for now... anyone else?

Haven't gotten my Prime yet, but that Tasker app sounds pretty cool. It sound kind of like JuiceDefender, except there's a lot more options.
With those settings, what kind of Battery life do you get?
If you don't know what Tasker is, you have no idea how powerful it is. It is amazing, you can control virtually every function, setting, alert, automation, etc. What I have done here is the tip if the iceberg. I have some for my phone that sense I am in my car, thanks to BT, and does a series of 3 to 4 steps like turn up brightness, play a tone to tell me it is connected to my car, start up a certain app, etc..

Tasker is pretty awesome!
A bit of a learning curve, but once you figure it out, the sky is the limit.
I have a profile that if I receive a text while driving, it autoresponds telling the person texting and driving is dangerous and I am currently driving at xx MPH and will get with them later.
I get a lot of people inquiring about that one.
The most useful one I have is it looks at my calendar and if it is during the time of my meeting, it automatically puts my phone on vibrate. That way I don't have to worry about it. When meeting is over, it reverts back to normal.
Yes, tasker is INCREDIBLE. Once you figure it out, it can almost double your battery life (at least it did on my phone).
You can try reddit.com/r/tasker, where most people post awesome tasker profiles and ask for help accomplishing certain settings. There are also a ton on the internet if you google search for tasker set-ups:
http://tasker.wikidot.com/profile-index (this is a great one)
I have been using Tasker for a while. It is incredible. My current challenge is switching to switftkey when I have my TFP keyboard undocked, and to the asus keyboard when the keyboard is docked. Tasker can detect the keyboard being plugged in, but not being unplugged. If anyone solves this, I would love to hear about it.
Tasker is one of the defining differences between ios and Android. Really shows off how powerful android can really be if you're willing to take the time
OP wanna post your profiles? And maybe a quick writeup (or link) how to apply them for those who dont know...
I used to use tasker for BLN to enable notifications from various apps that normally didnt work with BLN, as well as making my phone vibrate every minute or so if theres a missed notification (text, etc) for aprox 5 minutes just so that way if i was with a customer at work (retail) i could deal with the customer but wouldnt forget about the messages i got
Awesome app indeed.

Put a small SD card in the dock. Have Tasker check when it mounts/unmounts.
Might not work since there's no notification on unmounting /Removable/SD. Maybe have it check for access to /Removable/SD every X minutes?

Got mine setup with a profile to set off an alarm when the microsd gets unmounted.
Almost lost my mircrosd once before with it popping out and not realising to later - hopefully this should help
I have 4 profiles that I copied from my phone to do the same tasks:
Home: When near my Home wi-fi AP, turn on wi-fi. When no longer near the AP, turn off wi-fi.
Sleep Mode: Put device on silent, turn on airplane mode (11PM-5AM).
Work Location: When near my office wi-fi, turn on wi-fi, turn on silent mode. When no longer near the AP (i.e. not at work), turn off wi-fi, turn off silent mode off.
Work Timer: During work days/hours (M-F 6-3), turn silent mode on. After work hours, turn silent mode off. Exception: if there's an event with a description of "Vacation" on the calendar. If that exists, device does not go into silent mode.
There are others that I use on my phone.

BRILLIANT! I have actually seen no use for tasker for myself til now. I've always REALLY liked he concept, but there isn't ANYTHING that I want happening automatically. Until now. Thanks!!!

GREAT idea. Just set one up so "card Unmounted" plays an Alarm that will go on and on and on until I address it.

Really, you don't want to shut BT or WiFi or GPS or Sync while you sleep to conserver battery overnight?? That alone is a useful set of tasks.

i understand how powerful this tool can and is. but i shut my prime off at night... there is no battery to conserve... lol sorry. im glad it works for you guys though! it REALLY may be worth investing the money into though JUST for microsd unmount alerts.
Something tells me you don't fully grasp the true depth & scope of Taskers abilities. Thus far the tasks listed are child splay that barely scrape the surface.

i believe you are correct. but i am not very imaginative. so its very possible that i cant just find a use for it, doesnt meant that it isnt there. i plan on doing some research into some of the already made profiles to see if someone interests me. so far, the unmount microsd seems to be the only plausible for me
Not sure how I missed this thread before; I'm a huge fan of Tasker. All of what follows was written for my Samsung Epic 4G: I don't even have Tasker installed on my TFP because so much of what I do is smartphone-focused. Sooner or later I'll get around to putting together some tablet-specific scripts.
Surreptitiously snaps a photo from the front-facing camera every time the screen is unlocked, with no visual or audio indication. This is set up so as to always keep the last 2 photos stored, and will overwrite older photos. Images can be retrieved remotely via a secret text message.
Set up secret text messages that trigger the phone to gather information such as GPS location (reverse geocoded to an address), speed, heading, altitude, local cell tower ID and signal strength, nearby and connected WiFi SSIDs, WAN IP, currently open app, whether the screen is turned on, battery strength, and covert photographs taken from the front and rear cameras (including the one that was captured from the front camera when the screen was last unlocked) and text/email me back without notifying whomever has the phone. Another message will make my phone freak out, announce it's been stolen, announce that all of the above information has been sent to the owner of the phone, flash the LED in an SOS, and force all outbound calls to go to me.
If I send a secret message to my phone, it calls me back, and enables speakerphone, so I can speak with whomever has my phone. It also reroutes any outbound calls to my number. I can also ask it to send me photos from the front and rear cameras on the phone.
Ensured that when the phone is connected to my home's local cell tower, it always rings when I call it. I never have to worry about it being on vibrate while under a couch cushion or in a snowbank next to the driveway.
When I plug in a headset or it connects to my car's bluetooth, it pops up a list of media applications for me to use, and if I don't select one or back out of the selection, it automatically starts my Pandora, and kills the app when I unplug / disconnect. Basically, I get in my car, my music plays. I get out, it stops. Same with headphones.
When it detects the cell tower near my work, it enables vibrate.
If it detects a cell tower that is not the one near my home or work, it turns on the ringer and disables WiFi (unless I re-enable it).
If someone calls me that I don't even want a voicemail from, I add their number to a list in Tasker, and when they call me, it picks up the line and immediately hangs it up. Working on one that will play back a fake "Your call could not be completed as dialed" message.
Checks accuweather.com in the morning on work days to see if it's raining, snowing, sleeting, or hailing. If any of the above, it rings an alarm 30 minutes early. I also built in snooze functions and a voice notification in the morning about the outside temperature and conditions. This script recently broke (accuweather probably did something to affect the output of my HTTPGet) so I've been using the voice notification in Alarm Clock Plus, though it doesn't wake me up early. With current weather conditions I'm going to have to get my script fixed for the head start. My how-to on this script is on Tasker's wiki, here: http://tasker.wikidot.com/weather-clock
If I start Google Navigation with GPS disabled, it closes the app, enables GPS, and starts the app back up again. No more fiddling with GPS settings while on the go. Sometimes this script is not 100% reliable... I've got to look at it again some time to figure out why.
I made a blog post a while back about how to take the pictures remotely with the camera, and you can read about it here:
http://sean-the-electrofreak.blogspot.com/2011/10/more-fun-with-tasker-covert-mugshots.html
The email-attachment part can also be used to send audio recordings, which I've not actually implemented yet but wouldn't be difficult.
I've been putting off for the last 6 months or so my write-up on all the rest... I just have to find time for it!
