I have never heard of a faulty phone being refused warranty because of its unlock status, but if you are worried, it is possible to relock the phone.

Quick question from a newbie.
I have just recieved my XDA2 this morning and wish to un-lock it. However as it has ROM Ver.1.60.00WWE and Radio Ver. 1.10.00 I have to use the new version of the unlock tool.
My problem is that unlocking the unit will invalidate the warranty, if I were able to use the old version unlocking tool I would get my hands on the lock code that is currently present and therefore there may be some chance to relock the phone before returning it for a warranty repair.
Why does unlocking invalidate warranty? What is wrong needing warranty repair?
Hi Forum. May be my first post. I just SIM unlocked LG V10 on T-Mobile. Here is what I can say about the process that might be helpful to others:
1-Phones can be SIM locked by manufacturers so that service providers ensure that phones can only be used on their network or certain countries. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIM_lock for more information.
2-The process of unlocking requires the service provider to request unlock codes from the manufacturer. The service provider may have requirements to unlock ( e.g. in my case I had to put $100 balance on T-Mobile prepaid card ). This process took 5 working days at which time T-Mobile emailed me to inform me that they were ready for me to initiate unlock on my device.
3-On my device, I ran a "Device Unlock" app which connected with somebody ( T-Mobile ? ) and verified my phone was actually unlock eligible and viola. I'm SIM unlocked.
What I would like to know is what has changed on my phone ( e.g. firmware, some information on some partition ) ? Does this mean I can now root, change ROMs and my phone will remain SIM unlocked ? Any links to information about what actually happens when device unlocked would be appreciated.

What I can tell you is that, if you did unlock permanent it is going to be unlocked even after rooting and installing new roms etc.
Now, I want to ask in this forum if the phone can be unlocked if the t-mobile unlock app says it is not eligible to unlock. I bought my phone on eBay, called t-mobile the phone is clean, but they could not unlock it for me because needs an account... So now I'm stuck trying to find a 3rd party unlock website to do it, 2 already said they could not... So I have the phone but can't use it. Any suggestions?
Yes, I can confirm that on this LG V10 having performed a SIM unlock and then having switched ROMs the unlock remained in effect.
Someone told me he got his sim slot fixed by Motorola after the sim slot was damaged using SIM adapter.
I have the same problem, and I started an RMA with Motorola, but I am concerned they will reject the service once they see boot loader is unlocked.
Should I attempt to re-lock the bootloader (I understand this may cause issues) or just take my chances and send it in?
Doesn't Motorola provide us with the token to unlock the bootloader?

it's not true. When you unlock bootloader you have to confirm like 10 times that you know that this voids warranty so it doesn't matter where you live.
But... many small services doesn't check bootloader status because for them more repairs is more money. In my case with Sony phone I had ulocked bootloader and I've broken it trying to repartition device and still they changed my motherboard for free. So imo it's worth to try.
Just came back to confirm that Motorola sent me the phone back un-repaired with a note that they do not repair devices with unlocked bootloaders.

I plan to unlock my bootloader in the next few days. But I don't want to type in my real imei number, because if I have to send the phone in they might check and regret warranty.
So: Is ist possible to type in bull**** in the form or is the unlock code generated via the imei and I risk hard bricking the phone? And is there a counter which says that it was once unlocked if it is locked atm?

No this will not work!
The unlock Code will be generated specially for your IMEI, so a Unlock Code for a bull**** IMEI will not work.
Also I know (mostly from other manufacturers) that the "void warranty" is mostly because the manufacturer does not want to repair phones which are bricked for free.
If you have a hardware-defect, the manufacturer will repair your phone. The only situation I know where a manufacturer did not repair a phone, was because the phone was overheated and defective, because someone overvolted the phone via modified kernel.
So ... normally it will not "really" void your warranty.
simply relock your bootloader and flash a stock rom before sending it in

TLDR: If you break your phone du to overclocking, which was achieved with unlocking your device && rooting it, you're out of luck. If you get random reboots, which is a software thing it could get tricky and the warrenty may not be there for you then.
But for everything else hardware related it's not the roms fault. The company will fix it anyway. I sent devices in from HTC, LG and Samsung which were all rooted and unlocked. No problems so far. I live in Germany, just sayin

When i went with my previous phone (samsung S5+) in a Samsung Repairs they told me warranty is not void as long as phone is not rooted or bootloader unlocked (knox 0x1). Now if the motherboard is faulty and is to be replaced then they won't find out about root and knox fuse but if they replace other components and boot the phone and find the knox fuse 0x1... warranty is void. That is my understanding.
In the case of LG G5 one has to unlock the bootloader via LG de site and then that device will show up in their "unlocked devices" list with some sort of identification (of the device and user). If one sends his/her G5 to service it would be interesting to find out if LG actualy checks to see if that device has been unlocked or not.
I live in Romania and in my experience when warranty is involved the people at the repair centers do search if phone are rooted and bootloader unlocked and cancel warranty.
Getting unlock.bin doesn't mean that you used it.
