Removing I-Mate Blue Logo - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

I don't much like the blue I-Mate logo on the top right hand side of my PDA. Has anyone removed the logo successfully (with say nail polish remover or other substance) without damaging the metal underneath the logo?! I would prefer a plain finish on my I-Mate rather than the blue logo presently on it. Advice pls?

Well, guess I'm the only one who thinks the I-Mate logo is a put off! Is there no one at all who has attempted to remove it?!

Nail polish remover will never work. Trust me!
The best way is to use motor brake fluid. Apply a very samll amount on a cotton bud and gently massage it over the logo for several seconds.
I didn't try it on my i-mate but it worked perfectly on stuff like pens and watches and the end result was great with no damaging effect on the metal.
Do it at your own risk and please dont blame me if for some reason you damage your PDA.

Thanks for the tip. Sounds good but has anyone successfully removed it without damaging the I-Mate? I would be willing to try it but am hoping someone has removed it and can advise me!

Why don't you try it on the cradle first.. As far as I can tell it has the same finish as the phone and it's not a big deal if it gets damaged..

The phone isn't made of metal. It's plastic with metallic paint. So beware...
Paint remover works, when applied lightly and wiped off with some alcohol after 20-30 seconds or so. But be careful not to get even a tiny droplet on the screen.

As peter said, it is plastic not metal, so the story is totally different now. Take my advise and keep the logo as is!
Besides you will loose the device warranty if you remove the logo!!

Help with a scratced screen, please

Hi there.
I have an XDAII and the screen has been scuffed, at the bottom where you enter lower case letters, this has happened over time, just with writing so much I suppose. I have replaced the stylus at regular intervals but still, the screen is scuffed. I`ve spoken with O2, one person told me the screen could be replaced, another said it couldn`t, but I had a thought, and here is the question.
Can I open the XDAII, remove the clear plastic screen cover (if that is a cover) and flip it, so the scuff is on the inside?
The scuff itself is barely noticeable, but it interferes when I`m writing.
Any info will be a big help.
p.s. I`m due to upgrade soonish, XDAIIs or something else, most reviews I've read haven`t been very good about the XDAIIs
Cheers
You could try a very fine abrasive polish on the scuffed area only (maybe a fine silver polish like Silvo etc.) and then USE A SCREEN PROTECTOR. I am not shouting just emphasizing the importance. I have recovered many items in this way.
The idea of trying to remove the scuff never even occured, I`ll have a look round the shops tomorow. As for the screen protector, I only discovered them after the problem was there.
Thanks tons
Try toothpaste, it worked with me, but you need to rub for a long time!
Put some toothpaste on a piece of cotton & start rubbing in circles for 15 mins or more...
rub babe rub
and dont use colgate blue minty gel!!!
the cheap plain white stuff works best for cds, screens ect.
after your first polish with toothpaste, give it a final polish with silvo/brasso or any fine furniture polish.
worked for, good luck

Pimp your Wizard - Case Mods

I'm wondering if anyone has considered modding the housing on their Wizard to change the colour, etc?
I've been looking at using Plasti-Kote to spray my housing black. They reckon it adheres to most surfaces including plastic (although maybe not pre-painted plastic). I'm not quite sure how smooth the finish will be. (If I fubar it I can buy a new housing for £40, although the missus wasn't impressed when I said so.)
If anyone else has done this, considered doing it, or has any other case mod ideas, let's hear about it!
Search for the thread for 'white wizard' pimp. that's nice.
Thanks for the pointer. Here's the thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=286863
That's pretty sweet. I'll take on board the advice to sand the housing first. I wondered if I'd just be able to paint directly over the top.
I think I would take my device apart too so I didn't have to worry about dust and paint getting somewhere it shouldn't.
Something else you could do and that I bet would look AWESOME would be to see if you could get it powder coated. I know there is a little shop up the road a few miles that has told me they would powder coat something in whatever color I wanted. Could allow for some interesting finishes. I'm picturing maybe some sort of glossy metallic finish or something.

I am not familiar with powder coat. It looks like an interesting technique. According to this website you have to statically charge the item then bake the paint on?
I had also considered black with silver specks but ended up going for solid black in the end. (Maybe next time!)
* You can see my black wizard case mod here.
Usually when I buy RC car bodies they are Clear, you paint the inside to prevent scratching the paint, and it always looks great! Well I found this plastic case HERE Heck I am gonna order a couple and try a few different colors!!
I'd like a white wizard that's real glossy. I'd like the buttons to be white too, but I still want the buttons to display the letters and symbols. also i'm afraid the backlight wouldn't show through the keyboard. I think I have a delima huh?
You can use oven cleaner to strip the paint, just be sure to not leave it on very long or it will cause the top layer of plastic to shrink and crack. I haven't had to strip paint from plastic in a few years but I think it was about 30-40 minutes of soaking.
Regarding the powder coating, the piece to be coated is pretty much always metal because it must be baked in an oven.
Powder Coating wont work on plastic. It will just melt it within a few seconds of baking.
I just bought a wizard on ebay and also a separate case for it. My plan is to sand down the separate case and paint it with a matte black paint, I want to make it look like my macbook.
Yes so easy
See my Signature link PIMP My wizard and please post your jobs it will be nice see other jobs!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427786
can someone help to open wizard's case with picture? all i can see 2 screws behind it which one of them is under stylus
I have a Wizard service manual but I can's seem to get it uploaded. If you know of another way to get it to you I will gladly send it along.
MDA or 8125 style?
On my signature see PIMP My Wizard link...???? it has a picture tutorial download it and check your screws maybe it shows right but,..... is for the Qtek 9100 or MDA Vario t-mobile design device.
Service manual:

After reading this and after having repaired my Wiz (came with a cracked screen to begin with) I'm going to take part of my next week (good to have vacation after all....) and use it to mod my Wizard's case. Well, hopefully if everything goes well, you'll see a pimped out Mod B_Edwa style here in a week...

Painting Ba

Hello ;
My BA is almost 3 years old now ...(luv it )
The problem is that its got a lot of scratches on the front cover and the keyboard side line too...and i was wondering if anyone has painted his BA before and how to do it...
Cause i found a apage for SPARY PAINT PDA but not the BA check it out it really looks Nice http://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Spray-Paint-Your-PDA/
Can we do this To our Lovely BA ?
Please check it and Tell me
Thank You
It's not impossible...the only thing you need is to open Blue Angle's case and choose which part you want to paint...and paint it
Did the process little wrong.
EDIT
Um... I was wrong, I did the whole process again. Important thing to remember is that you MUST clean surface(before applying paint) with something like alcohol, but destilated alcohol or something, i used deodorant witch has very large persentage of alcohol. Second most important thing is that you have to apply at least 2 layers of paint. Oh and to mention you have to leave it to stay at least for 2 hours.
Hope this helps.
i also want to paint mine...problem is
when i'm looking at how to disassemble blue angel..i got cold feet...i'm not sure i can re-assemble it back and i'm too afraid to screwed my ba...
if anyone have done it...plz post some picture so we can enjoy it as well
broken ba
my brother has a BA but...
because of an idiot that tried to disassembly brokes the little slider things that makes stronger, be so care with that blue angel is so nice but delicated in that specific place.
if you need a new vision of how to paint it, tools, process serch in google ´tutorial para desmontar y pintar qtek 9100´
this ismy qtek 9100 wizard, is refreshing have a nice cover at own work.
good luck.
i wanted to try spraying my BA with metallic black coating. but i dont know where to get a good and durable spray , most of the spray will fall due to touching it too often..
get some clearcoat over the top. it will 'seal' the paint and protect just remember the more layers you do of each the better lots of thin layers build up and become stronger and less flaking of paint...
if someone does it succesfully let us know pls

Stylus Broken In Phone

Hey guys and girls. I have a 8525 and the tip of the stylus broke off my phone while I was trying to remove it. Now the stylus is stuck in the phone and I need assistance in removing it without opening the phone.
Remember only the plastc tip on the end broke off. I tried tweezers but they were too large. Suggestions please.
Try an unfolded paperclip. If you can see the tip but still can't get it out, I would try some superglue on the end of the paperclip and put it on the tip until it sets...

I agree that a spot of superglue on the end of something is probably the way. Though personally I'd take the back off to remove it. I think a paperclip might be too thin and a bit hit or miss - but if you are not short of time then maybe you can spend the day fishing for it!!.
Just so we know where it is lodged - it is stuck in the white clip in these pictures (taken from another thread with a slightly different purpose).

One thing you MUST avoid if you use a spot of superglue on a rod of some sort is hitting the rubber block on the way up the silo. If you touch that with superglue it will stick fast and will likely unstick the block if you try to pull it out again. If you use this technique it would be VITAL to keep the rod you are inserting against the back side of the slot to avoid hitting the rubber block.

Okay guys. Thanks for the advice. I'll let you know my results. Also only the tip of the stylus broke so I don't have to worry about the rubber pad. In fact, the rubber pad is what is keeping the stylus in the phone because I could never get a good enough grip to get past it.
Success!
What's up fellas? I have finally went to work and got the stylus removed from my phone. I used a very small screwdriver to slowly pull it out and did not need crazy glue, a safety clip or to take the phone apart.
Thanks for all the assistance. I have included a picture of the stylus so you can see where it broke. The picture is with it extended, but remember it was compact when it was in the phone.
Peace, love and sex!

Well done!
.... and I had misunderstood! I thought it was just the little greyish pointing tip that was stuck in the slot. Obviously the part that came off was at the opposite end. Not that it matters now

Mine broke like that on my old wizard, and the broken off plastic was still inside the stylus body, so there was nothing to grip. It was still in warranty, and I didnt want to have to send it off, so I had to drill into the stylus, and then stuck a small screwdriver through the hole and worked it out.

Finding a drill long and skinny enough to accomplish that must have been difficult. Granted I also have a Wizard (8125) and the stylus opening is slightly more accessible. I think that is a great option if it occurs again.
this happened to me on the same exact phone.. I used a paperclip and a lighter.. I heated up the paperclip with the lighter then pushed it into the plastic that was left in the broken end in the phone.. waited a few moments for the paperclip to cool down then simply pulled it out.
worked great.

HELP: REPAINT battery cover of Samsung Galaxy Alpha !

Hello everyone,
As the title suggests I wanna make a little modification on my Samsung Galaxy Alpha. Since I got a new spare rear battery cover around I decided to take the already stock and used one and repaint it. So, I masked the rear of the cover and removed the rear "SAMSUNG" badge carefully letter by letter.
The problem is I'm not sure how to do it and what paint to use so not to lose the "stock texture" completely. How to remove the current paint? What kind of preparation should I do and what paint I should use?
The current stock color of the cover is black but I will probably paint it bright yellow and the "SAMSUNG" badge black (gloss or matte). The cover has a weird rubberized feel and I've no idea what to do to make it look cool with the new paint and not to destroy the texture. I already got a yellow enamel paint but no idea if it will work and how many coats it will take to change from black to yellow.
HELP! Thanks!
Why would you even do that?

Well probably I'd never make use of the spare cover I have, so I decided to turn it into something interesting. It's a little mod for making it "unique" without taking any risk. (it's just a cover) But anyway, I need some help here.
I found some acrylic enamels that seem suitable. Probably because the surface is matte style I will have to use matte yellow instead of gloss. The thing is how to break a little bit the old paint since sandpaper would obviously damage the texture. Maybe alcohol or aceton?
Thanks

100% Alcohol.
Or you can try a hairblower, the thing to dry hair.

Think this question can be better answer in other forum, I trying my best to answer:
A) Try your paint on the back of the cover given they are of same material
B) I am not sure what masking paper you use but I will rather use those for scale models which works best to avoid paint bleed.
