dump Rom? - MDA II, XDA II, 2060 ROM Development

Hi,
1) Before playing with my M1000 rom's, i wish to do a back-up of the original rom. Is it possible to dump the rom's with a USB cable and how?
2) How can i extract my M1000 extended rom to share and edit with others?
cheers,
Yann

the quickest (but not nescesarily the easiest) way is to go in bootloader mode, and copy your rom contents to an SD card.
d2s 80000000 02000000
d2s 60000000 00300000 sd a
d2s 70000000 01080000 sd a
see HimalayaBootloaderSdCardFlashing
and then extract the contents of the sd card using
psdread -3 0 0x03400000 sd.img
see psdread
I still have to finish a tool to manipulate such an image.
you may also try xda2dmp, but it is not 100% reliable.

ok thanks, i know understand the way it works, but how do you put the d2S commands on a SD card? notepad?

you type 'm in via the serial port, using something like hyperterm.

yes but i only have a USB cable :?
I managed to get in the bootloader with a USB cable using Multi-Port/USB TTY Vesion 1.11 and managed to do a rom back-up using d2s commands in the software
see:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=4608&highlight=d2s
cheers,
Yann

once you have a back-u of the rom in the SD card from bootloader how do you transfert this back-up on the hard drive in an img file?
thanks,
Yann

using
Code:
psdread -3 0 0x03400000 sd.img
I think I should extend OsImageTool to be able to do this. .... when I have the time.
until then you'll have to do this manually, or use unfinished perlscripts to do so.

PW10B1 .. need help in unlocking

I have a PW10B1...I downgraded the ROM to 6.24
now info for device
ROM Version 4.01.16 Eng
Radio Version 6.24.00
Protocol Version 324e4
When I try to upload the Special edition Rom I get an error when running Xda tools
C:\xda>pnewbootloader bootloader_v5_15.nb0
Unable to find flash info offset, cannot disable bootloader writeprotect
I am following these instructions... the error occurs at step 5. please advise. I had downgraded the ROM from before and tried the unlock program. it did not work.
Now my goal was just to use the XDAunlock program. When I ran the program right from the defaults I got 'error getting unlock code.'
Here's what I started out with:
ROM: 4.01.16 ENG
Radio: 6.25.02
Wallaby booatloader: 5.22
What finally worked:
Radio: 6.24.00
ROM: 3.17.03 ENG (XDA special edition)
then upgraded back to 4.01.16 ENG
Wallaby boot loader 5.15
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I grabbed:!
XDATools
ActiveSync
XDA-Developers Special Edition ROM 1.2
RSU 6.24.00 files
XDAUnlock.exe
1x64Mb+ SD card
What to do?!
Back up everything. Not just using the sda backup tool, from the boot loader.
You can do the SD backup if you want, consider it backing up your data.
You can also do the ActiveSync backup if you want to save your data.
I'm doing ALL of this with no SIM chip in the device. This may or may not be necessary.
Backup the existing bootloader and operating system using card reader
Wipe the SD card (format FAT). Stick the SD card back into the pda and soft reset, then cradle it.
Go to a DOS prompt and CD to where you have extracted the XDATools
Type 'pnewbootloader bootloader_v5_15.nb0' to write the Wallaby 5.15 boot loader to the device.
The output looks like this:
D:\XDAtools\binaries>pnewbootloader_40116 bl515.nb0
Copying D:\XDAtools\binaries\itsutils.dll to WCE:\windows\itsutils.dll
in FindFlashInfoOffset
protection found at 8c0d60f8
result: 00000000 00000000
Install the XDA-Developers Special Edition ROM 1.2
You can try installing it directly via ActiveSync connection by running the exe on your PC
or
Flash your device via SD Card and bootloader (by writing the NK.nbf-file in the directory English to your Device)
Boot up your device
Follow the instructions to calibrate the screen and you're ready to move on.
Grab the RSU 6.24.00 files and unzip into a folder on your computer
Use ActiveSync to copy the files to \windows on the device.
Execute the rsupdate.exe program to reprogram the radio to 6.24.
When completed soft reset the device
Go into start -> settings -> system -> device info to make sure you're at 6.24 radio vesion
Copy the xdaunlock.exe to the device and execute.
It should say 'you're device appears to be SIM Locked, would you like to remedy this?"
Click Yes to unlock the device.
Now the device is unlocked.
You can change the ROM to WM2003 or any other ROM if you want.
Also you can re-upgrade your bootloader and radio stack if you want but I'm leaving well enough alone for now!
formatting the SD card
I used my PC and a card reader to format the SD card as FAT. I did not see any other option from the device itself to format the card.... could this be part of the problem ?
can anyone tell me how to use the PW10B1 to fromat
can anyone tell me how to use the PW10B1 to fromat the SD card. I havew copied the image via the OS image tool, but the does not the device does not ask me to format.when I put the SD card in. it can read the NK.nbf file as 31MB. When I power/reset it just goes to GSM OK.
Please help. I have reinserted the card but no difference.
Download XDATools
Extract them at any place and run osimagetool
Select your Rom Image from the Source drop down menu.
Select your SD card (disk drive) from Destination the drop down menu.
Select Copy to start writing process and the tool should start writing to the card.
When XDATools has finished writing the image (no Infomessage) put the SD-card into your device
If there comes a message to format the SD-card select No
Hold the power button and soft reset. You'll be taken to the below screen:
SD DOWNLOAD
Card Type:
CE OS & BOOT
Press action to Download
Or
Press REC to Exit
Press action to download and it will start the download/restore from the SD card.
Follow the on screen instructions once its "Completed" which will consist of a " Hard Reset"
any ideas
anyone know what I should do ?
you need the attached bootloader installed first.
Then you can do the SD.
Format FAT using reader card is fine.
To load the image file, I use:
1) Right click on the NK.nbf file & select write to SD.
this assume you have registered the tool to your system by
running the "-register" command.
If the attached bootloader doesn't work, then you need to upgrade your
*.NET framework.
This is what works for me.

Cooking a rom WM6

I have a rom kitchen that can cook roms for startek. I am going to try to make a rom today with all the info I have found so far. My 3125 is scrap to me so if I brick it I don't care. Wish me luck I'll keep you all posted.
Just a little update, super CID unlocked the phone and have been able to manipulate some files. Attempted flashing an os.bin from typhoon but phone would no longer boot. Retrying, thought bricked device but no. I'll update as I make progress.

Sledwrecker, thanks for taking the initiative on this. I also have a dormant QTEK 8500 when you get a little further along and need another tester. Let me know, I'm up for it.
Well seems as though I have bricked this turd.... I am locked in bootloader I can't recover from SD fallowing all the steps I have found around here.
Trying to D/L the qtek rom now maybe that will work.
I can't get the phone to connect to pc in bootloader mode. Phone enters bootloader, I plug in USB and it shows "USB" on the bottom left but I can't see the phone through MTTY or throught the RUU setup.
I'll update if I figure this out.
Prepare your SD card with the OEM ROM per this method and this should (hopefully) unbrick your device. Please report back so I can also know if it works in this situation. Thanks!
From the WIKI: StarTrek SD Card flashing
It is necessary to format your microsd card to FAT32 filesystem!
# Empty (erase the contents) of your microSD card from the Windows Mobile file explorer or format it in fat32 from your computer using a card reader (in some cases format doesn't work).
# Extract the .NBH file from your prefered ROM upgrade: In windows use winrar (right click) to extract the contents of the exe file. In Linux / ~MacOS use [cabextract | http://www.kyz.uklinux.net/cabextract.php].
# Rename the .NBH file to *STARIMG.nbh* and copy it to the root folder of your microSD card.
# With microSD card inserted on the phone, start the bootloader (The bootloader is invoked by pressing down the Record button and Camera button at the same time).
# You should see the screen with SD Card searching, then confirm flashing on screen by pressing Softkey.
# Flashing might hang after some time but this is normal. Just wait. Complete flash takes about 25 minutes, so check your battery or connect to charger before the flashing process starts.
~SuperCID devices are able to flash any official NBH image using this method.
I've tried this several times with the english nk.nbh from HTC's american rom and the CWS rom as well.
1. Extract RUU_STAR100_4.1.502.5_02.79.30_CWS_SHIP.exe
2. rename .nbh file to STARIMG.nbh
3. format "my" 1 gig micro SD card FAT32
4. copy STARIMG.nbh to MicroSD card
5. Insert MicroSD card into STarTrek
6. Power on in bootloader mode holding camera and voice record then pressing power.
7. White screen with blue text "searching for SD card"
8. Tri-Color Boot loader....
Never finds / Sees the SD card
PC sees MicroSD card just fine.
Also, as mentioned above I can't get the phone to connect via USB and bootloader either.
Here is what I KNOW I did "wrong" possibly....
1. I was in MTTY trying to upload a WM6 os.bin to the startack.
2. Ran set 32
3. It found device "ok"
4. lnbs os.bin
5. it did a format and copy
6. restarted phone
7. Nothing.......
8. Hard reset ........
9. Nothing
10. camera, voice record, power = bootloader... Works..
This is where I am at. Like I said I jsut want to get a WM6 rom working if the phone is done the oh well. I am here to help.
Try this
If you want to connect in bootloader and you see the usb connection try the following:
In Activesync, unckeck the Alloy USB connections box.
Remove the device entry from control pannel under mobile devices
plug in the device to USB
Run the enableRAPI program to try to re-establish communications
Here is also a rapidshare link to the latest OFFICIAL WWE ROM for WM5 QTEK 8500. Try it as RUU after the above, if that does not work, extract the contents and try the SD flash again. My gut says if you can get to bootloader, you haven't bricked it yet.
http://rapidshare.com/files/56652190/RUU_STAR100_3.6.251.0_02.67.30_QtekEUR_Ship.exe.html
You said
*Remove the device entry from control pannel under mobile devices
Can you be specific, I can't figure that part out? asside from removing the device entry I've done everything else.
When I try to run the enablerapi it just sits at a blank cmd prompt?
Still no luck get the 260 error when running the RUU
Start>Control Pannel>System>Device manager>Portable Devices>(Windows mobile-based device)
Remove whatever device looks like StarTrk or WM Smartphone
Well I went through device manager and can't find any reference to mobile device or startrek. still can't get the phone to connect.
SD card flashing still did not work even using the .nbh from the rapidshare link above.
When the phone first goes into bootloader it says searching for SD for about 1 second then goes to tri color screen. it's as if it doesn't see the SD card at all.
When in bootloader if I plug in the usb cable I get the little USB down in the bottom but I can't get the enable rapi to work. It just hangs or sits at a cmd propmpt
Sounds like we need to get the SD flashing to recognize your card,
Let me walk through the process with my working QTEK and the same ROM I posted to Rapidshare, then we can compare notes again.
EDIT: By the way, My IPL/SPL show 3.06.0000 and the USB connection does link when attached to my PC (Vista).
SD Flashes OK
Well, I found only a few contentious points with the SD flashing guide:
1) VERY CLEARLY states you must format for FAT32
I had to buy a new microSD for this test. It came standard in FAT16 not FAT32. Took quite some time to format it.
2) Extracted the .nbh file using WinRAR version 3.7
3) Rename the file STARIMG.nbh in CAPS as shown. This was the only file on the card and was in the root directory
4) when installing the microSD, it was necessary to put my SIM card in to keep the SD located properly.
The rest went as expected without fault.
Dude you are my personal hero.
I got it unbricked or fixed using your method.
Here is what I did EXACTLY so maybe this will help someone else.
1. Take 1 gig Kingston MicroSD card
2. Put it in SD sleave and Plug into Computers SD card reader
3. Open Disk Management by right click on my computer then "manage"
4. Selected Removable Disk
5. Format as FAT32, Cluster size = 512 and NO QUICK FORMAT and NO Volume Name
6. Extract ship.......*.nbh from official rom RUU installer.
7. Rename Ship......*.nbh to STARIMG.nbh
8. Copy to SD card
9. Place MicroSD card in phone
10. Insert SIM
11. Insert Battery Pack
12. Holding camera and voice buttons press and release power on
13. Phone searched for SD card
14. Success Phone found SD card press middle side button to start download from SD.
15. Took less than 10 minutes to complete recovery!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I saw some other threads around with people stuck like I was earlier. Try this it worked for me!
Back to the cooking I'm either going to brick this phone or get WM6 working!!!
THANKS AGAIN!
I love it when a plan comes together! Good luck in the kitchen.
Haven't given up yet.. quickk update.
I've been able to succesfuly extract the WM5 ROM completely.
I've been unable yet to extract a complete nk.nbf from Tornado.
After close comparison looks like tornado is closest to Startrek. It has the same OMAP 850 Proc and architecture was going to port typhoon since it's the 730 and the 850 is basicly the same but faster.
I have got an os.bin tornado WM6, not sure what to do at this point.
----
From what I found if I use the XIP from the WM5 rom then the main drivers, keypad, etc.. should work. in theory..
Can I mesh the os.bin into an .nb file ?
I was consifering pdocwrite.exe to upload it but I need to know how to caluclate the header size. Unsure here.
Can I take the os.bin, convert it to .nb and then mesh it in with a WM5 nk.nbh?
Looking for some suggestions, if there is anything OBVIOUS that I am missing please poitn it out.
Try to contact with Erofich, sp3dev or pof, cause these gays working on this project and use the pdocwrite. So they can tell you how to caluclate the header size.
Also in this thread have some info too:

Windows nb from Typhoon
http://rapidshare.com/files/57065531/windows.nb
Here's a windows.nb we can try if you wish from the Typhoon WM6 ROM in my signature. I know you said the Tornado has similar hardware, but I think the Typhoon is also a close match. This comes from the Typhoon os.bin but I am not 100% certain of the process to make it.
(I do have WM6 working excellently on my Typhoon from this file)
I believe if you replace the WM5 windows.nb with this one from WM6 then recook it, it just may work.
k, giving this a shot

You sure you named it correctly?
Per the wiki at http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_SDCardFlashing:
- Empty (erase the contents) of your microSD card from the Windows Mobile file explorer or format it from your computer using a card reader (in some cases format doesn't work) make shure it's formated in fat32 format. As a precaution you might want to check the MicroSD card for file errors. i.e (Properties->Tools->Error Checking)
- Extract the .NBH file from your prefered ROM upgrade: In windows use winrar (right click) to extract the contents of the exe file. In Linux / MacOS use cabextract.
- Rename the .NBH file to HERMIMG.nbh and copy it to the root folder of your microSD card.
- With microSD card inserted on the phone, start the bootloader (hold Ok button on left side and POWER button at same time and stick with stylus in RESET on bottom).

Flashing ATT/HTC 8525 rom via SD Card-Wiki didnt help

Hi Guys,
I was hoping you can help me out. I have an HTC 8525 that no longer connects to my computer via USB. I believe that a pin on the inside is damaged. I would like to upgrade to the Schaps ROM but have not found a way to flash from my microSD card. I read the information in the Wiki but when following the steps I end up at a screen with red, blue, green, and white bars that say serial. After hitting the power button the flash does not start. Am i missing a step or is what I'm trying to do not possible?
Thanks in advance for any help,
Chad
did you rename the nbh file to HERMIMG.nbh? and make sure the card is formatted to fat32
more importantly........did you hardspl your device first?
Yes and Yes. I did not HardSPL my device. I'll have to see if I can find instructions in the forum.
If its helps my bootloader screen shows IPL-1.04 on the red color and HEM 100 SPL-2.03 also on the red tabl
You need do do HARD SPL if yoy want to flash from SD card.
How do I that if I cannot connect by device via USB?
Can anyone advise me as to whether or not it's possible to install hard SPL without being able to use active sync?
it is possible!
1. Format your SD card with FAT32.
2. Download Hermes SIM CID Unlock v3a.
3. Copy SSPL-HERM to your SD card.
4. Extract the RUU_HERM_Unlock_v3a.
5. copy HermesUnlocker_HardSPL.nbh to SD card.
6. Rename it to HERMIMG.nbh.
7. put the SD card into the device and run sspl.exe.
8. the device enters the bootloader and ...
Thanks. You're the man. That worked like a charm

Flashing with Micro SD Card

I was trying to update the Wiki with the SD card flashing procedure. I have tried formating both a 2 GB and a 1 GB card with FAT32, and transferring the renamed .nbh file to it. My bootloader doesn't recognize the image file. I have tried multiple formating process on XP; from file manager, from a DOS command prompt, formatting it on the phone, with no success. I don't care about the 1 GB card, I would just like to get it formatted correctly for this purpose.
For those that have flashed your phone with this method, please respond to this thread with the SD card size, sector and cluster size. And I will try and replicate that with my 1 GB card. Hopefully there is a magic set of parameters.
---------------------
Solution from Post #11:
Ok, my Dell Laptop slot/driver was the problem. With some trial and error, I formatted my 1 GB card on a USB driven SD slot on a Vista machine. It took about a minute to format it with FAT32 and the allocation unit size of should be set 1024 (the default size did not work!).
So here are my parameters:
Partition = 1GB
Sector size = 512
Cluster size = 1024
------------------------------------------
Flashing a phone with a micro SD card
Format a microSD card into FAT32 with an allocation unit/cluster size of 1024 (the default size for a 1 GB would not work, also if it takes only a few seconds to format try formating with some other slot/device. A 1 GB took over a minute to format correctly)
Copy the ROM to flash (xxxxxxxx.nbh) to the root of the microSD
Rename the ROM xxxxxxx.nbh to TITAIMG.nbh
Remove card from the PC and insert your card into the phone.
Force into the boot loader with POWER-CAMERA-RESET, release the reset and hold POWER&CAMERA buttons until the tri-colored screen appears
Follow the instructions and you'll quickly flash your Titan...
This will work to flash with an official ROM and radio, I think regardless of the boot loader you have installed. But ensure that you have the correct boot loader (olipro 2.40 for this GPS ROMs) installed for when you do eventually finish with your flashing and are ready to boot into the OS.
Not much help, but I am interested in this also I have tried all of the same methods and can't get mine to recognize the image either.
For documentation sake I have a Kingston 2GB card model#sd-c02g, my card reader in my laptop is Texas Instruments PCIxx12 with driver version 2.0.0.4
just by a card reader none of those programs work wait they do work they format it in 32 but the phone wont pick it up u need to do it on laptop or computer
I haven't had to do this yet, but whenever I'm having issues with partitions and formatting, I always use Gnome Partition Editor: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/
Burn and boot that image, you'll need a card reader - but it should do what you need.
I've always formatted my microSD card in Windows XP with a card reader..
REMEBER FAT32, I know you stated it in your message, but I want to stress it again for whoever reads this in the future...
I then insert the card into the phone and copy the nbh file to the card while it is connected via USB.. I don't know why, I just always have...
Then here comes where I think you are having the problem, I havent tested this but I suspect that it is probably case sensitive.. meaning it must be TITAIMG.nbh....
Also, if you have your windows set to hide file extentions and rename the file to TITAIMG.nbh, you are really renaming the file to TITAIMG.nbh, hbh which of course wont work...
Turn off hide file extentions - Open a File Explore Window - Tools - Folder Options - View Tab - uncheck Hide Fiel Extentions for known types in the white box..
Hope this helps, because flashing from sd card is the only way to go.. I'll never risk flashing via usb ever again and it sooo much faster!
Ok I am retrying this from the top.
1)Put the Sd Card in my card reader
2)Right clicked the drive and selected format
3)Formated with Fat32
4)Copied TITAIMG.NBH to device with USB cable through activesync
5)Booted into bootloader
Results:
Breifly goes to Multicolored bootloader and then breifly flashes Loading Rom, No Image File! Then Returns to multicolored boot loader SPL ver 2.40
Not sure if it matters, but the image filenames in posts #5 and #6 are slightly different...

what do you mean by that? the TITAIMG.nbh file should be placed on the root of the SD card while it is still connected to your PC.
Formating SD card for Flashing
Forgot to mention, I have been trying to format these cards from the SD slot in my DELL D430 Laptop. My troubles may be because of that, I'm just not sure at this point. BTW, the cards do not show up under Disk Management, so that option has not been available to me.
What I was looking for were the key physical parameters of Working SD cards.
How Big? Sector Size? and Cluster Size?
Has someone got a 2 GB or 1 GB card to work?
I did copy it to the device while still connected, that is what I mean by copied with USB cable
SD Card Format
Ok, the Dell Laptop slot/driver was the problem. I got it to work by moving my 1 GB card to one of my HP Vista machines and formating it there. It took about a minute to format it with FAT32 and the allocation unit size of 1024 (the default size did not work!).
So here are my parameters:
Partition = 1GB
Sector size = 512
Cluster size = 1024

Two methods that I have used;
first and simplest is the pc program WinRAR.
second, is to execute the package and once it has extracted the contents and the flashing utility pops up, go search your hard disk for .nbh files, in this package the file you are interested in is RUU_signed.nbh. Typically, they would be located in a temp folder, that is erased once the program completes.

Copy it to the microSD card while it is still in the card reader attached to your PC. If you try copying it from the PC to the microSD card in the phone with the USB cable, it will not work correctly.
So after you format it to FAT32 with the card reader, then copy the nbh file to the microSD card while it is still in the reader. Then take it out and put it in the phone and try it.

well i guess i'm a little old school. I have windows XP and used DOS commands to do most of the work. I connected the card reader to the computer, it assigned the drive letter E: to my SD slot. Your computer may assign it another letter, just double click on MY COMPUTER and find out what letter your computer has assigned to your SD slot. Now replace E: with the letter your computer has assigned (ie instead of E: it may be F: )
1.) click START --> RUN --> type (without quotes) "CMD" (hit enter)
a dos prompt window should pop up
2.) type (without the quotes) "Format e: /u /fs:fat32" (hit enter)
hit enter when it asks you to label the volume
3.) you can go back to windows to drag the image file to the newly formatted SD card.
4.) go back into dos and type (without the quotes) "E:" (hit enter)
5.) type (without the quotes) "ren *.nbh TITAIMG.nbh" (hit enter)
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR PHONE HAS AT LEAST 50% BATTERY LIFE!!!

second, is to execute the package and once it has extracted the contents and the flashing utility pops up, go search your hard disk for .nbh files, in this package the file you are interested in is RUU_signed.nbh. Typically, they would be located in a temp folder, that is erased once the program completes.

I hope people realize that the new SPRINT ROM has both a new RADIO update along with new version of WM6. from my understanding, if you have an older RADIO and try the new WM6 from the new ROM, your phone will NOT work. If you have not updated the RADIO, you may want to flash it w/the old sprint ROM. Regain functionality, then update with the new Sprint ROM using a PC. This will update both your OS and RADIO. I hope this helps.

Not entirely true. The .exe files shipped out in the firmware are self-extracting files that CAN be opened with winRAR or 7zip. Right-click on the .exe and the context menu should include an "Extract with winRAR" or "Extract with 7zip" option.
